[Q] Can't update to ICS after changing rom - HTC Sensation

Hi everybody,
I bought a used sensation 4g in the states from T-Mobile. Living in Canada, and wanting my phone in french, I rooted it, and installed the official rom for Canada (carrier Bell Canada). Now, when I download ICS using the software update, it won't let me install it, saying my phone is not using the software from factory, and therefore cannot perform the update.
Now, can I download the official "canadian ICS", and force to install it ?
If yes, will it erase everything, and will I lose my apps, settings, etc... ?
Thanks a lot !

u are rooted that's why you can't instal the update , you need to run Any RUU you like, you will lose root than the update will instal, and yes it will erase everything on the phone
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium

So there is no way for me to run the update "unofficialy" without loosing everything ? Can I just "unroot" my phone, and then update the official way ? I don't need root anymore, it was just to install the canadian rom.
Thanks for your help.

For such a radical upgrade, it'd be recommended to wipe anyway.
I'm assuming you're super-cid?
I'm guessing OTA updates need stock recovery as well?

Yes, I'm super-Cid.
I guess I'll have to wait to find a canadian rom to keep the french language. They are much more rare than the T-Mobile ones !
Unless you guys know a custom one with french language. Or does ICS support any language via download ?

[Q] Don't get the European Update

Hey guys,
I have flashed the European stock ROM from here on my Sensation, since it has a branded (German Vodafone) ROM.
However, I don't get the notification for the update, which is currently spread out in Europe, for the new market etc.
Also when I search for updates, it shows me that I have the current version on my phone.
Why is that so?
Have you tried searching for an update by your own? And what version are you running.
Btw. I think the market update is only for USA.
Yes, I tried to search for the update on my own with the sensation.
I am running:
1.45.401.2 with Android 2.3.4

Try to do a reset of your phone. That should do it.
You first need to get 1.45.401.3, then you'll be offered 1.50.401.1

Can I flash that without loosing my data, just like the over the air updates?
Btw. I rooted my Sensation, might this be the reason why I don't get the over the air update?
No, even on rooted phones, it will give the notification and let you download. Only at the time of installation phone will give message that you have tempered with your phone
But I cant say why you are not getting the update. I think it could be because your phone is branded. May be the update is released for unbranded phones only, till now.

Nope, my phone was branded at first, but I flashed 2.3.4 (
RUU_Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.45.401.2_Radio_10.56.9035 .00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_208857_signed) from this thread

to unbrand it.
Sorry for double post, but doesn't anyone have a solution for that?

Does really nobody has a clue about a solution to this problem?
Is there maybe a possibility to do the update on my own without loosing my data?
Hey F-Styla,
What is your current CID? Maybe the OTA is CID dependant and the phone is not seeing the update. When I first got my Sensation, I also debranded my phone by setting up CID 032 and flashing RUU 1.24xxx (I don't remember which one exactly) and then it got all the updates. My current version is 1.50.401.1.
PS Did you also try to manually check for the update from Settings? Sometimes the phone is too dump to see it by itself, even if you have mobile/wireless network.

[Q] [reinstall stock firmware]

dear android friends,
I want to reinstall ics on my sensation because of a (software) problem on my phone, the touchscreen doesn't work only when I unlock my phone, so if anyone calls me and the phone unlocks itself the touchscreen works perfectly. I allready tried a hard reset and whiped all of my data.
But I simply can't find how I should reinstall android ics. I downloaded the official update from htcdev.com for my model, I need firmware 3.32.114.11. But it is in a .tar format. I don't know if my sensation can read it.
I have a sensation, t-mobile NL branded, running on 4.0.3
But do I have to root my phone to reinstall android? I cannot find it anywhere, sorry if I didn't search good enough.
But is there anyone who can tell me how to reinstall to a stock firmware? I prefer not to root it or use a custom rom if it is possible
I have a sensation, t-mobileNL branded, running on 4.0.3
Get a RUU for your Provider (doesn't matter which version).
Make your device S-OFF (see Jupuotbear tutorial), flash an ENG-Hboot and execute the exe. Should work, see the tutorials also
Nice! I'm going to try it, but there was some news from htc.
There is a small update coming for the sensation.. So I'm doubting if the update may change something on the touchscreen problem.
But I think that i'm going to try it anyway

Hi,
Everything you need is on THIS THREAD

Get back the original software? JB 4.1.2

Hello guys,
I received my razr HD (925) today. It was already updated to 4.1.2.
Coming from my galaxy s2, where obtaining root is pretty easy I followed the first of your guides here - but failed at reading correctly:
I tried the "all in one tool" to get back to ICS to obtain root using the rootkeeper.
Something went wrong, the SW remained 4.1.2, but I had no radio signal any more (only verizon version I read lateron)
Now I managed to flash a france 4.1.1 s/w using RSD 6.1.4 - still having no root but can use it again, at least.
Is there any chance to get my (newer) original version back? At best rooted?

Maybe I should add, that it looks like my main problem is to find the up to date SW that was installed.....
Maybe I should send be back to my provider, get a new one and then do a dump / image and upload that BEFORE I "brick" it again =)
I would try to hard reset it and then try Matt's tool to go to back to 4.0.4 again.

Then:
1. Use option 1 to go back to ICS
2. Go to settings - about phone and take the 6mb update.
3. Root using the utility
4. Install voodoo ota rootkeeper either from the utility or Google play
5. Open voodoo and protect root
6. Temporarily unroot.
7. Take the JB OTA
8 Open voodoo and restore root.
Use this method for XT925

The extide method is for VERIZON PHONE ONLY XT926
@extide
that was what I was doing - and what was not working.

To the other guys:
THanks, I'm going to unlock the bootloader then. Unfortunately it looks like some things have been changed in the factory delivered 4.1.2 so that not even safestrap is working any more.
With a locked bootloader the revert to ICS is not working.
Why you don t want unlock the bootloader ?

There are two reasons right now:
- I'm from germany and here we have seperate restrictions for warranty and guarantee (one is forced by law, the other is provided by motorola).
Motorola is not doing to repair unlocked Razr HDs
- My phone is new and I'm not sure whether I'm going to keep the Razr HD - unlocked it might be a problem to give it back to my dealer during the "test month" he offered.
(I still have my Galaxy S2 and had LOTZ of fun with new custom roms, trying different combinations, getting all the newest stuff ported right after it has been leaked anywhere for any modell - and on the other hand, there is not even the source to get my retail software back because no one shared it)

Couple of questions about Lollipop update

Hi guys,
so as you are receiving Android 5.0.2 I spoke with my carrier today to find you that they are still waiting for Sony to provide the test software. This means more waiting for me. I'm thinking of updating following this manual - http://techbeasts.com/2015/03/16/update-sony-xperia-z3-compact-d5803-official-android-502-lollipop-231a0690-firmware-how-to/
Before I do it I have a few questions:
1. When I update using this method am I going to lose all the apps and setting that I'm using now?
2. If I choose sets say the german version of 5.0.2, does this mean that in the future I will receive OTA updates alongside the phones running this version out of the box?
Thanks in advace.

I would just point out that that thread you linked to states that it is specifically for the Z3c. That is a different device to the Z3
However, you can just flash a FTF for the Z3 found in flashtool (Or the mega collection thread) using flashtool.
You will lose all data on your phone unless you choose to not wipe data.
You will receive updates as if you had the phone with the firmware you install on it.
But you can always flash the FTF for your carrier once it comes out
Greg
Thanks Greg.
So there is a way to avoid wiping the phone when updating with flashtool ?

Untick the box that says wipe data
If you get a load of FCs after the phone boots you will have to re-flash and then wipe data
I think I got it, but I would have to read a bit more before flashing.
Thanks again
Are there any disadvantages to flashing a different version of the firmware?
For example, I'm with Three, and although they now pride themselves on their phones being unlocked, they've still put their bloody splashscreen and other bits and pieces on the provided firmware on the phone! I'd rather have the generic UK version, but just making sure there'd be no issues with that.
None for me, My phone was with ROM for Mtel ( a Bulgarian carrier)that also claims the phone is unlocked. I flashed the central Europe ROM without any issues. Even kept all the files and apps from 4.4.4
Thanks for that, I'll have a look at some of the various firmwares available and make my choice!

If you modify your phone ( root ) you will loose the option to update ( OTA update ).
If you want to update you phone you will have to download firmware and flash with Odin. Everytime that you update firmware you will have to re-root you phone again.

Generally yes ( mainly with rooting )
You can backup your app/data by using something like Google backup service or smart switch ( PC app ).
Hey guys,
Hopefully I'm not requesteing a completely useless thing cause I haven't found a fix so far. Since it's somehow related to firmware flashing via Odin, I chose to ask in this thread.
I bought my Galaxy S8+ a while ago and carrier unlocked it (It was on Vodafone Romania). Ever since unlocking the carrier, I can't seem to receive any firmware updates for some reason.
Smart switch says I'm at the latest firmware version but according to Sammobile, I'm far from being at the last version. (Still Android 8 on it)
My phone is not rooted (I haven't felt the need to root it so far because it's been doing great). Any ideas how can I fix this and install the latest firmware?
If I download the latest Romania firmware from sammobile (carrier-free version) and flash it through Odin, would it work or I'd encounter a difference because the CSC is Vodafone Romania?
Thanks!
Hey is there a way to root the SM-G975U with security update on july 1, android pie, and a way to unroot? (like the stock rom files)
Thanks
