On my liberated Aria, Google Maps would always pause the music playing in the stock player when announcing directions.
On the HOX it seems like no matter what I do the Nav voice just talks through the music which makes it very difficult pick out directions. Has anyone else notice or succeeded in working around this issue?
I prefer it this way. I hated my music being paused. But I actually mute the Navigation voice all together.

It's odd that it does that. For notifications, it pauses the music, plays the notification, and unpauses it. I'd much rather have the music volume lowered while the notification plays so it's not as jarring. I'm surprised it's inconsistent.

If I use the stock player, which seems nice, as soon as I enable an EQ, I get this terrible effect that sounds like it's being over compressed. It happens with all the eq settings, and even custom.
I stated using Mixzing and it's a great player, the eq is awsome, but when I play songs it skips all the time.
That's odd. Mine doesn't seem to suffer from any compression with EQ use.
I don't actually use EQ but i have some poor experience playing music at times.
Sometimes when I'm listening to music through the headphone port and the phone does something (receive a text message or just use data or something) there are audible pops and clicks in the audio. Once the phone is done doing what it's doing they stop
I experience the same small pops and hesitations when playing music. Mine occur both from the speaker and the headset jacks. Sometimes I can play an entire song and have no noise, but most of the time it occurs a couple of times during a song. Very annoying.
Mine doesn't do that either. Good for me I guess, but odd.
I also have noticed the same issues. Especially when there is an incoming call. Granted, IM not stock, running cog 2.1.5

Yeah, I get the crackling noises too, but haven't noticed whether it's only with mixzing or stock player.
same issue here with the stock player AND mixzing. others have said that apps running in the background cause this issue but I tested that by killing everything in the background first and the issue still occurs. I know that android will auto-start stuff it needs but if the stock apps kill the music quality, then they have more fixes to release.
Weird, when I get a notification my music stops completely just to play my tone... is this normal? Any way to disable this? Hell I didn't even know stock player had EQ adjustments, where do I find them?

Bluetooth playback is when I notice the most distortion. I don't bother with any kind of EQ.
I get clicks and pops from all headphones, anything I connect the phone to, car, stereo, anything connected to the headphone jack.
I've tried and listened to music using all of these and get clicks and pops from all of them.

Every music player app I've tried clicks and pops, pauses and stutters. It does this no matter the encoding of the file, no matter the source, it clicks and pops and clicks and pops. It's worse than the cheapest mp3 player I've ever owned and frankly, I wish I could return this phone to AT&T but I'm past my 30 days. I really expected some updates, real updates for the GPS which is why I kept it past the 30 days. I thought the clicks and pops were a fluke, but to this day, GPS sucks and the music player clicks and pops. It's beyond annoying and if I could return it, I would.
Earlier today the GPS had me in Bakersfield, CA, over 2,000 miles from where I actually was. 2,000 miles!
And no, the explanation "it's a phone, not a gps or a media player" is not acceptable. These are features we pay for as customers. And a fix for these issues means I don't have to screw around with custom ROMs and settings and hacks and blah blah. It should just work, period.
Click click.. click click...
Yes, I get clicks and pops and stutters, yes I do...
...and yes, I've tried all the various buffer options in the MixZing app and am using the full PAID version, PAID version of the app. That would be the media player I bought because the stock one that comes with the phone can't read playlists created elsewhere. If you have even a moderate music collection it's absurd that the damn stock player can't read a standard playlist file and users would be expected to create all their playlists on their device. Ridiculous.
May I suggest you try two things and see if it helps:
1. Try a lag fix if you haven't already
2. Download SetCPU, lock the cpu at 1GHz and try music
I'd be very interested to see if either of these would help, have you tried factory resetting or a new ROM?

Okay, I'm kind of curious what is causing this problem. I'm using NSCollab 1.09 and have used CM 7 RC2. Whenever I play music while using navigation, the navigation volume is very low when directions are being spoken. It's low enough where I won't hear it unless I turn the volume all the way up on the car stereo.
When I use navigation by itself, it's fine, the problem happens when I also play music at the same time. It never happened with CM 7 RC1 variations. I did do a complete wipe install with both roms that I mentioned earlier. Kind of wandering what's causing this to happen. Subsonic is my main music player.
Oh, the navigation volume is maxed out when this happened.
Any ideas?
Btw, searching for "navigation volume" brought up nothing useful.
I have exactly the same issue (almost) on my Desire HD.
When I have any sat nav (CoPilot or Navigator) running along with music app (PowerAMP or HTC Music) the sat nav voice iss too low - but only when I have audio cable plugged in!
Everything works fine when not audio cable is plugged in
running with stock android OS or with CM7.03-ns I have the same issues when using bluetooth... but only with third party music apps. if i use the builtin music player the navigation audio comes thru perfectly.
anyone ever find a solution to this issue? I have the same exact problem with my phone.
I also have this problem when I use Grooveshark in combination with Navigation. Haven't yet tried navigation plus stock music player though.. would be interested to know what others think...

I also have similar issue. Google navigation volume is way low when I am using TuneIn music internet radio player.

Same issue here with Tunein and Google Maps. Other music apps work fine, only Tunein has the issue.
Is this a Tunein bug? Any ideas?
In the past when I have had navigation and music player running the music would cut off for a nav announcement and then resume. Lately the music cuts off but the navigation voice is inaudible. If I hit the volume rocker after the music cuttoff the nav sound comes back loud and clear for that announcement only.
This is true with CM7 and MUIU. I haven't tested on a Sense rom. It is also true whether I am running the native music player or Poweramp. I have never posted in this forum, only the dinc forum, but this seemed like the place to go as I suspect it is not limited to the Incredible.
Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions?
Thanks........mm
See title.
I've tried turn by turn, but the music and voice directions are the same volume. They're drowned out.
I've switched from Android, and the way it worked with Google navigation is as follows:
Music is playing -> Music Paused -> "Turn Right on X St" -> Music resumes
Do any apps have that option? I'm interested in Navigon, specifically.
Thanks for any help!
Don't know about any thrid-party ones, but the built-in navigation feature works like that.
However, it doesn't give instructions automatically; you have to tap it when you want directions for the next leg of the trip. Some (few) people like this, many find it annoying and/or unusably impractical.

Yeah, that's just not very useful :/
For those who have Navigon: does it pause the music when getting audio directions?
I would really like something like this too. Poweramp on Android gives the ability to pause music on short audio focus change (like when voice navigation is active music is paused and then resumed). I have yet to find an app on WP7.5 that does this.
I know bing maps does it but that doesn't give automatic voice guidance.
Any help would be appreciated. It would be extremely useful for listening to music through a bluetooth car stereo whilst having the navigation on...it is hard to hear when the navigation voice is speaking if music is playing at the same time.

I've had an app that stopped/paused music fail certification for that very reason. If an app pauses or stops music, it must warn the user EACH TIME the app is loaded. Kind of silly, so I doubt any navigation apps out there pause the music.
my old HTC Aria would send all sounds, even notifications, through my bluetooth speakerphone adapter for the car. So, I could be listening to music, and hear my email notification tone, then the music would play again. I was using CM7.1 on the Aria.
So far, the Skyrocket does not do this no matter which ROM I've used. I will be listening to music through car speakers, then hear the phone speaker play my email notification, then my car speakers play music again. It's a bit odd. I haven't used CM on it, because it doesn't appear to be a "daily driver"...
Any word on if the thing will do it, or how to make it happen?
I'm fairly sure all my ROM's have done this. My stereo is a JVC.
One ROM and I wish I knew which it was, would even give my GPS a separate volume indicator so I could make the GPS much louder than the music.
None of the ROM's I've tried since then do that. They all put everything into one single Bluetooth volume.
I am using stock unrooted UCLE2, I think its called, and it works for me through the Bluetooth stereo in my Camry.

Our note ank skyrocket both do this. It has something to do with system media but i have not had time to look into it. Back when I was playing I noticed that if you use an app like zedge or video caller id to set the notification it plays over bt or headphones...if you set through system menu it plays through phone only Or sometimes you get both...
