[Q] How to restore photos in stock gallery app? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was trying to get rid of Drop Box and other Picasa folder that was randomly created by cleaning the Camera app cache and it started to delete all my pictures one by one in about a minute.
I went to settings and looked at option like Backup and Restore as well as Account & sync (only has an option for Google Photos but this doesn't seem to be it). I disabled Backup and Restore by default.. I enabled them for a day but didn't do anything.
Is there a way to back up the pictures? Things like bookmark, contacts, pictures automatically backed up whenever I flashed new ROM or update them, but it seems like my phone deleted all of them this time...
Please help me out!

Hi,
I just ran into something similar. Once in Gallery, go to settings, click on your Google account and then enable photo sync. It immediately displayed all of my albums.

No luck, I tried so many methods as well. Reflash ROM, GAPPS, wipe ROM and clean flash... etc.
Only way it works is restoring my old ROM backup, but once it backs up all my pictures, it starts to delete all of them again one by one........

Q: Lost all my contacts with faulty backup, need them back

Hey guys, so I decided I wanted to flash a new ROM, to try it out and stuff. When i completed the backup of my original ROM, i used ROM manager, and thought that it was ok, so I flashed the new ROM, wiping out all my data, including my contacts. Now these contacts, I had only saved them to my phone, not my SIM card, but was planning on doing so, but since I had gained the contacts 2 days before, I didn't think too much on it. Bad idea. The MD5 from my old backup with all my contacts was never created, so I no longer have the ability to back up to the file. So now i'm here, and I'm wondering, is it possible to access the Data file that was created when I made the backup, since only the MD5 is gone, and access the contacts saved on it? Thanks again!
It's default for your phone to backup your contacts to your Google account. Did you disable that? If not then you still have them all.
always backup your contacts when working on your phone I think it's the most precious part of my phone and always have a backup of it and as for getting it back like mentioned should be on your google account
Tried that already, no dice, i never disabled it, so no idea >_< I found the contacts app in my old backup that I made today that didn't have the MD5, but when i transferred it into a different backups system.tar, it stayed at the front of the folders, so i couldn't transfer them into the system folder itself.
Just copying the app itself won't do anything. Have you logged onto your gmail account (on a PC browser) and checked your contacts?
Yup, no dice, nothing there. As a note, i have no way of contacting these people other than this number, sooo ffffff-
That's bizarre. I've found the automatic syncing of contacts and what-not to be nothing less than magical! Sorry it doesn't help in this case - hopefully someone will be able to tell you how to extract the data from the ROM image that you have. Good luck.
Thanks, as a note, my old ROM was Juggernaut 5.0

[Q] Contact Icons Not Showing After Backup To Google

Hey folks,
I just finished saving my current phone contacts to Google instead of to my phone. I then deleted all the "Phone" versions of my contacts. Now all my contact icons have defaulted back to the basic picture when I open my Contacts app and begin scrolling. The only way I can see the individual icons is if I go all the way to the edit contact screen, or by logging into my Google account on a PC.
Do I need to re save all my contacts to my phone's local memory to get them to re show up again when I start scrolling? Or delete them all and restore them?
Thanks for any help.
ETA: I'm running dman's awesome streamlined Gingerbread ROM, and Entropy's lastest test kernel.
Figured I'd add this for futurer searchers...
I just had to force resync and all my contacts with pictures were restored.

[Q] vzw backup + Touchdown has hosed my gallery

Running Touchdown for Exchange. Somehow Verizon's backup assistant ran and backed up all the little images from Touchdown emails into my gallery. So I've turned off the Backup service from vzw and cleared all Touchdown downloads, cleared the data from Gallery, yet there is still an album titled Backup+ Pictures with 124 images. When I click on a single image to open, it says image can not be found, presumably because I deleted the Touchdown downloads. It will not let me delete any of the images or the album at all. When I try, the gallery completely freezes until force close. Does anyone know how I can remove this album? On a side note, I would also like to be able to turn off the wifi sharing thing so it doesn't show all the other pc's on my home network and their media files every time I open the gallery.
Reinstalled Backup+, let it backup a few pics, then deleted the whole album and deactivated Backup+ again. Worked great, stupid album is gone.

Upgraded to Lollipop, no Photos love; nothing displays images except QuickPic

As the title says I upgraded to Lollipop, rooted and restored all my apps through Titanium. Now apps like Photos, Piktures and Gallery KK won't see any of my old photos from /sdcard/DCIM/ or anywhere else in storage actually. Yes, I tried setting Photos app to "On device."
QuickPic can find everything of course and all the images are intact, but that's it. Now, if I take a new picture, that will show up in the above apps. I was hoping that might kickstart the mediascanner to discover the rest, but sadly no.
anyone know how under Lollipop I can reset the picture media db? the sd media scanner apps I've tried all crash under 5.0
Do I have to sync them all to Google+ auto backup maybe? I've never used that.
thanks in advance.
EDIT: deleted my Media Storage data, rebooted and all is happy again.

Google Photos, force full backup

Hello,
Last time I wanted to cleanup my Google Photos (mostly from time, when there wasn't free storage). So I've removed all older than June 2015 and now I'm uploading them once again.
Additionally I've removed all photos automatically send by my phone. Then I wanted to re-backup them once again. Unfortunately, only new photos are send to cloud.
I was trying using option "save copy of all" (I'm not sure how is it called in English) from photos application settings but doesn't work. Also removing settings and reinstalling Photos app doesn't help. It still knows some settings (for example my selection of folders to backup) and probably knows which photos were uploaded before.
As I remember from last year, I was often making full wipe and all photos were uploaded each time, but I don't want to make full wipe currently.
Any ideas?
Many thanks and regards,
Maciej
