[GUIDE][HTC SENSE] Adding Weather Locations to the Weather app/Widget - Android General

Annoyed that HTC's stock weather app and widget doesn't have your location? Noticed that if you have "GPS Location" on, it suddenly does?
Well, this is because HTC use accuweather.com, but haven't implemented all locations
There's a simple way to fix this however...
This was my homescreen before, when using a custom location close to my home:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And when I used it with a GPS location on (my correct location):
---------------------
1. Go to accuweather.com and find your location. If it's not on there, stop, this tutorial won't make any difference. Go contact them instead asking them to add your location.
If it worked however:
2. Download SQLite editor from over here. (Paid app, don't ask for an APK!)
3. Open it and select HTC weather provider (near the bottom of the list)
4. Once in there select WP_0409WWE.db (or something similar, just not weather.db)
5. Select locationlist
6. Find a location that's quite close to you and tap it
7. Press Menu > Clone Record
8. Set of settings will appear:
Instructions for editing:
Leave _id as it is
Code is the continent your country is, for example the England is in Europe, so EUR. If you don't know yours, browse the list of already there continents
Name is your country, or in some cases a united version as in the UK or US (needs to be a code like UK, US or AFR)
The name is the name of the location you wish to add
State is your state, not required if not in the US
Country is the FULL FORM of your country, like in the other country field use the united version if available
Latitude is the latitude of your location, to 3 decimal places. I used meteoconsult.co.uk, but a quick google of "latitude and longitude <place location>" should get you it
Longitude is the longitude of the location, again use the internet for that.
Timezone is the time forwards or behind GMT the country is (can be positive or negative)
Timezone ID is the name of the timezone, again use the existing database entries for that
8. Now press save
9. Press home and go to your weather app
10. Select add location and type the new name
11. Select it and then press "Refresh"
> Sometimes this takes a while or takes a couple of attempts
12. If the widget (best to add a 4*4 one for this) gets the weather, great!
If not, keep trying, as long as it's on accuweather, it should work.
13. Press thanks!
And here's my homescreen afterwards:

Thank you so much for this. Been trying to get my local weather on my HOX for 2 days now. Got it done in minutes with your help. I was almost at the point of sending it back to Orange.

Don't know if you are still working with Sense, but do you know which file we need to edit for Sense 6? The HTC weather provider apk is not there anymore and I can't seem to find where they have put the location list.

This provably doesn't even work anymore, so no

Today Weather Plugin? Does a decent one exist?!

I'm looking for a today weather plugin that updates via 3G or similar, and keeps it up to date. I love the way Titanium weather looks, but I cant seem to get that to work with my today page since I dont use titanium I hate that weird scroll stuff. I would like one that has a simple one box with today's forecast and current temp. I've tried about 9 of them now, and hated every last one.
Anyone know one that's similar to this with live update through cell internet? One that I can install on my regular today page?:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Or please tell me how to install titanium weather onto my today page? Since i believe tweather is live update?(bottom row is what im looking for)
Edit: I will leave this open, but I do believe what im looking for is "Chome Weather" by the great, NRG
Any other suggestions would be great
Actully Chome Weather isnt working either, not showing up in items or on my today screen.
I use the Weatherbug plug in. It updates when you want, set it up in tools. And its free.
Look for the 'Weather To Go' plugin. I've used it, and it's very nice. It gives actual forecasts, and the data comes from NOAA. There's an oem for it at ppckitchen.org-you could probably load it just with the oem, but I'm sure you could find a cab somewhere.
Oh, and unlike manila, it has a very good database. The three cities I use are in it-no weather city database editor needed.
Edit: Here's a link to a cab.
I second Weatherbug plug...it's accurate, configuable, memory lite, and can display temp on top task bar!
Version Number/Name or .cab? I have about 3 weatherbug plugins now, trying weatherbug direct as we speak.
Edit, WeatherBug direct wont show on my today screen, what gives?
Installed it to device not card, ran Setting.exe.... still nothing =/ even soft reset.
Version 2.2.0 go to Options>Settings>General Settings >Display Options>Show All>Done
Unfortunately that did nothing, i dont even see a .exe for the program, just the setup.exe
You need to tap or select the bug plugin on the Today screen to see the dropdown with options & settings!
Right, but there was absolutely no additions on my screen. I tried it all again, install weatherbug, reset, settings.exe yaddy yadda, reset, today menu (nothing) start menu (nothing) today screen (nothing) only place i can even tell it's installed is add/remove programs. Maybe it's conflicting with my energy 6 12?
Wierd that in your Settings >Today >Items, you can't click on or find "weather bug direct' item?
Nope, doesnt exist.

Force dialer to default to favorites

Anyone know if there is a way to do this with stock app?
When i hit phone, it is annoying to always be on the dialer screen. Yes, I can speed dial a couple contacts, but I have a favorites list of 20 or so, and I would like to land there first.
Any ideas other then an alternate launcher? Would an alternate launcher even do this?
That was a nice feature of the iPhone. 99% of the time I am calling 1 of the people on my favorites list as well, this would be nice if it was possible.
I do not know if it is or not.
Would also appreciate this setting.
A work around that might be useful:
From your home screen find a screen that is fairly empty and long press like you are adding a widget. Select "Shortcuts" then select "Direct Dial" Choose someone from your contacts list. You now have a direct dial shortcut to that contact on your screen.

I actually did that. I even made my own icon that matched the Launcher Pro icons and added it to my dock. It direct dials my best friend.

Not a bad idea but not really a solution/work around for a shortcut to your top 10-20+ favorites.
I agree - not a good solution if you have many on a fav list. For a 2 or 3 I just use speed dial from the dialer.
Has anyone tried Dialer One?
(from the thread looking for an alternate dialer) I'm too new they don't trust me with linking to it.
Another possible alternative is to add a Folder Widget end select "Starred Contacts" from the list.

What app do you use to grab a screen shot?
Regarding Screen Cap:
If you are rooted there is a market app. Another way is to use the ddms.bat tool that is in the SDK - it launches the Dalvik Debug Monitor on your computer and this can do a screen cap (Menu - Device - Screen Cap)

no app when I took that. It was using the android sdk to do it. Guide on how to do it is found here: http://www.simplehelp.net/2009/07/21/how-to-take-screenshots-of-your-android-based-phone-from-windows/
Launcher Pro ( the paid version ) also has a favorites widget that will let you configure either full screen or 1x4.
Why not just use dialer one? You can do exactly this with dialer one + you can do so much more, like custom backgrounds and change all the text colors etc.
I just added the folder of starred contacts. Really nice, actually.

Thanks for the app. I am getting an error when trying to use the app. Any suggestions?
Sorry Crucial Service Failed to start.
For reference I am using an S5 4.4.4 simulated in Genymotion.
I tried to reboot to install this service but I had no luck. Root is granted to the app.

App is gone from the play store. Do you have the apk?

Xperia XZ2 Compact: in US, but Accuweather and Open Weather Map occasionally show location as Lyublino (Moscow, Russia) - hacked?

This has been happening for around 2-3 years now. I'd get a weather alert notification for Lyublino, a district in Moscow, Russia. This is from the stock weather app (it's just called Weather). The current version is 1.3.A.4.27) and it uses AccuWeather as its provider, with no option to change providers.

It also shows when I go to accuweather.com using Chrome browser. When I go to the site's menu > Settings, the country is set Russia, and I can't change it to the US. However, both Chrome's incognito mode and Firefox both show the correct location.
Lyublino used to occasionally show on my KWGT widget, which uses Open Weather Map as it's provider. Even when I went to KWGT's Settings > Weather > Force Update, the location was still Lyublino. Then in Aug 2020, it just stopped doing this, and has since been showing my correct location. But the fact that it wasn't isolated to just Accuweather leaves me suspicious.
Other things I checked/tried:
Phone on Android 9-10, unrooted
Google Maps: always shows my correct location
Banks/credit cards: I have alerts set up if any settings are changed, and if any amount of money is spent. Haven't seen anything weird so far.
Restarting phone: no change (it goes away on it's own after a few hours-one day)
Factory reset: Once in Mar 2020. Didn't work.
Still occurred with both the stock weather app using Accuweather, and the KWGT widget using Open Weather Map (until the latter stopped on its own a few months later).
The only caveat is that I tried to restore all my settings to the way they were. This included re-downloading almost all of the apps I had before, and signing into the same Google Accounts. I also had a bunch of stuff saved on the microSD card, which I took out when wiping, and reinserted afterwards.
I just deleted StuffMerge Pro, a paid app that hasn't been updated since 2015, and no longer works with Android 10. The stock weather app now shows the correct location. Chrome browser accuweather.com still shows Lyublino. Dev information in the Google Play Store shows Bratislava, Slovakia.
Pretty sure all other apps installed are verified from the Play Store. I have 430 apps installed apparently. No social media apps. Reputable and none with lower than a 4-star review.
Doing another factory reset is definitely not ideal, so I'm just really hoping there's another explanation other than hacking? Any other ideas on what I can check? The thought of having to go through everything in my microSD card and all my apps is pretty stressful haha.

Floating bubble text stays on-screen a long time.

For some reason these "popup text bubbles" stays on screen for about 60sec(Don't know there name, so it's hard finding related search results).
They're supposed to go away way faster(~5-15sec?).
I can't find a way to revert it, so do any of you know whats going on?
This behavior has persisted on two phones(Both running android 11).
I've imported my settings using my google account to the new phone.

Thank you sir, you're a savior!!!
Disable Bubble Notification On Android For Specific AppsStep 1. Grab your phone or tab (Android) and swipe down from the top of the screen once or twice.
Step 2. Tap on the Settings icon to open your device’s Settings menu.
Step 3. Now, scroll down until you find “Apps and Notifications.” Tap on it.
Step 4. Tap the message that says “See all X apps.” You will find icons of three apps installed on your device on top of the phone screen and this message under it. And ‘X’ is basically, the total number of apps you have on your device.
Step 5. From the list of apps, select the app for which you don’t want to use Bubbles.
Step 6. Then, in the app window, tap “Notifications” and then, select “Bubbles.”
Step 7. Next, tap on the button that says “Nothing can bubble.”
This will stop sending you a Bubble for every message you receive in that app.
Regards,
Willjoe
