[Q] Speaker doesn't work. - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

So I picked up a MT4GS off eBay to replace a MT3GS. The phone had a busted digitizer, which I was able to replace easily. But now I'm also finding that the earpiece speaker doesn't work either.
Has anyone had a speaker fail? How hard was it to fix?

I haven't had a speaker fail, but if it is like most phone speakers it's pretty easy to replace... (well as long as you have the phone already taken apart...). They usually aren't even soldered onto the phone they are just a speaker with 2 gold springs or plates that make contact with 2 solder pads on the motherboard. So if it actually is a blown speaker than you should just be able to buy one and switch it out. But you may just want to clean the pads. I haven't taken apart a MT4GS so I'm not completely sure if that is how the speaker is set up but it's like that on most phones...

broken sound on fuze??

hey guys about a week ago all the sudden the speakers seem to have went on my device. I recently changed roms and i still cant hear anything. I first noticed when I slept in this week because the alarm was going off but no audio LOL
anyone have any tips or experience with this issue? I have a feeling its hardware but if any sort of firmware upgrade or anything will fix it id love to know!
if it is hardware related...anyone have a guide on how to crack this beast open and check the audio wiring out?
There is a Service Manual for this phone floating around.
Cracking open the case is easy. I just did so to fix the antenna contacts. Unfortunately I broke my speaker cables when reassembling it, so i will need to do this again when my replacement speaker comes in.
Take off the back battery cover and you will see four screws. Using a very small philips screwdriver, remove the four screws, then with a flat plastic probe (or your nails if they are long enough) separate the back case cover from the keyboard, starting from one side, around the top , then the other side. Leave the bottom for last as that has the USB connector holding it together. The speaker is attached to the back case cover near the top, and has a very short cable connecting it to the circuit board. Careful not to pull the back case off too hard or you can snap these thin cables.

Microphone replacement question.

Hi, my phone mic has stop working no one can hear me.
any one know´s what is the mic replacement for the tornado 2125??
hope any can help me.
thanks.
Strange - already the second with Mic problems for the devices that I watch (all the old ones: Typhoon, Hurricane, Tornado, Excalibur and Vox). It seems that some are offering replacement MICs on ebay, but the more problematic part is to unsolder the old one and re-solder the new on the PBA.
Check first if it is really the MIC and not another problem in the radio part. Try to record a note or a voice tag to see if the MIC is working. Also check if the Headset would work to record.
The mic works ramdom, voice recoder sometimes record the sound other not the radio version is 4.1.13.28_02.61.01 try whit lot of rom´s and the same.
headset is lost but i will try when i found it :S
if you can provide me a newest radio it will very appreciate that.
thanks.
You already have the latest Radio - there is nothing newer for the Tornado. Changing SW will not help if the HW has a problem - and as the recording sometimes works and sometimes not - seems you have a HW problem :-(
Love my phone, but is old know that!
can you help me giving me the correct mic reference?
i will try to fix replacing the bad mic for a new one.
thanks.
See this thread. Search ebay for "microphone dash".
I don't know how you would be able to remove the old mic and resolder the new one. I would not dare doing this. Best option is to open the device (careful! - don't rip off the keyboard cable) - seach for descriptions how to do it - and then clean the PBA from dirt that may have accumulated there.
Edit: all identically looking HTC microphones should work. There is no reason for HTC to have different MIC in the same shape. I found the following item-ids matching on ebay:

Mic just work again xD no more problem whit that.
now the Ring Speaker stop working only work´s sometimes and sound rare :S
what is the replacement for that speaker??'
thanks for all.
What did you do to make the microphone work again?
The ring speaker hardly ever breaks, but it is the same for Typhoon, Hurricane and Tornado. It is more probable that dirt has accumulated on the speakers membrane and/or that the contacts to the PBA are not working properly.
If you had already disassembled the device you can take care of both. Check the contacts on speaker and PBA first, as removing and cleaning the speaker is more delicate to do.To remove the speaker from the middle frame you have
to disassemble the device (several manuals available around the net) to its main parts:
Front cover with LCD and PBA
middle frame (with ring speaker, camera and buzzer)
then remove the 3 black screws from the black plastic cover,
now carefully lever up the camera which is glued to the frame with a small double adhesive ring around the lens from inside (really delicate if you don't want to break it!). You could possibly skip that step, but then the next step will require you to bend the flex cable from the camera very much. Never bent it much on my devices, so I cannot tell if that would not break the camera either.
carefully lever between the black cover and the frame (small adhesive frame around the edge) and step by step pull it up to finally remove it. Take care not to rip too fast as you need the adhesive later to keep it stuck well to not vibrate and distort the sound.
now you can access the speaker which should lift up together with the black plastic cover. The speaker is glued with double adhesive tape to that frame - again care to to lift it up.
good luck!
I conected the hands free, to the cellphone and it´s worked again.
i disassemly the phone clean whit isopropyl alcohol and nothing.
only the ringer speaker works somethimes so i thinks is faulty and sound like weird
try to change for another ringer.
thanks for you help!
Ah, that is interesting The 3.rd ring on the plug (the one you do not have on normal plugs) is for the external microphone and shortcut to grounds acts as pickup/hangup button. So it seems that some dirt in the socket has created confusion regarding the microphone?!
To my experience the switch that toggles headset/normal also steers the use of the external/internal microphone. Consequently you should have noticed also the sound disappear (when going to "headset" mode).
When you disassembled the device already, look at the rear part of the headset socket. You see at the left side a gold contact that is normally closed and that opens when you insert a plug. The closed contact must be well connecting or otherwise you are stuck in headset mode. When open (plug inserted) use a wooden toothpick + alcohol to clean the surfaces. Depending on the place where you keep your phone when carrying, the socket eats grid and dust that accumulates at the rear part - so keep the socket clean.

HTC Sensation Headphone Jack

Hey all,
I been looking around for a similar thread, but all of them involve this issue. My issue is that my Jack will not play the right side of Stereo.. At all. I've tried my Gaming Headset, and 5 Diff headphones, its clearly the jack. Thing is I've never dropped the phone, and been really careful with it in general. The Port does not feel loose at all and no matter how much i Twist the plug trying to catch a signal it does not pick up anything. I Also tried cleaning the inside with a shaved down Q-Tip, needless to say it didn't do anything.
Any Ideas?
I have no Warranty
The last time I tried cleaning a headphone jack, I accidentally bent one of the contacts inside the barrel back flush with the wall. That meant one of the contact pins wasn't doing its job.
Take the outer housing off and closely inspect the jack. Shine a torch dow it to make sure all your pins are showing. A surgical needle saved me (great addition to the phone repair kit) You can use it to bend the pin back into position.
Good luck!
Sry for Nekro, just wanted to add a Follow up to the problem. My phone had been recently stolen, when I was hanging out with a not so great crowd, But I just got it back yesterday. And to my astonishment, the headphones started to work if I pushed the jack in further. Turns out it was just Pocket lint.... They musta knocked the pocket lint loose enough for me to grab a weak connection. Just rolled up some Tape and stuck it in and got the Lint out, works perfectly now. Hopefully this will help someone else searching this problem.
Now to just figure out why my Pause/Play , Forward /Backward buttons on both my Headphones don't work anymore....
Thanks a lot Zeal514....I had no sound a all and headphone pin was not going all the way in...swirled some rolled tape in and whole lotta lint crap came out and I can hear now...feels great. Thanks for your post saved me call to HTC helpdesk and time to send phone in.
But my mic is not working...i have old apple earbuds aith no buttons, just a mic attached with earbuds.
Thanks for the tip, I used some 3M Scotch compressed air and after blowing the dirt out of the jack plug, all was good again!

ear piece stopped working after digitizer swap

Hey all looking for help. I cracked my screen and got a replacement screen/digitizer/frame and successfully switched everything to the new chassis. Everything works except for the ear piece. Any tips to getting it to work?

Make sure that the contacts are lined up right to the motherboard, and make sure those contacts are clean
Thanks! I ordered a replacement anyway it was $9 on amazon. I accidently touched the ear piece with a magnetic screwdriver when I was trying to get screws. Would that fry the ear speaker? There's only one way the ear piece can possibly go that's why I'm confused about why its not working
Take a look at your old chassis where the old ear piece was there should be a little plastic seat that boosts it up closer to the contacts. You have to transfer that with the earpiece to your new chassis.
This might be a necropost but I figured it might help someone else who is googling with this problem.
It helped me. Thank you for posting!

Can you order that part as a replacement? I think I got rod of my old chassis before I realized I needed the piece underneath the earpiece.

Ear speaker won't work after changing broken screen.

I droped my one month oneplus one, and broke the screen.
Changed it myself, no big trouble, other than now, the ear speaker won't emit any sound when calling.
Any chance that I missed something when putting it back together?
Thanks guys.
An ubberly frustrated oneplus owner.
HI, did You solved it? I have the same problem, but when I push on speaker during a call it works.
If you take your phone apart again (I know, not ideal, but it should be simple) and get to the speaker, there should be little copper colored prongs the are bent out. These are the contacts for where it touches the motherboard, so make sure that nothing is blocking them. You may want to try bending them up a tiny bit in order to help them make contact/
