Boot manager kindle fire - Kindle Fire Themes and Apps

I have been playing around for a while with the idea of dual booting my kindle. I decided that I would try to use bout managerand see how it works. Thankfully it actually works well.
Do not attempt without making a backup! Not tested with stock roms!
Here is instructions on how to set this up.
1 download the apk https://www.box.com/shared/60c365b6e1a21a413b88
2 navigate to sdcard/downloads
3 find the app and press on it.
4 open it and wait (it will ask for super user permissions.first startup usually takes a while)
5 read the popups and follow the instructions.
6 use your recovery to make a backup.
7 go to the rom1 page and install the rom of your choice (as a precaution do not attempt without 1.3 GB of storage left)
8 Boot up your new ROM
9 IMPORTANT! WHEN YOUR NEW ROM BOOTS UP, UN INSTALL BOOT MANAGER AND REINSTALL IT FROM YOUR SDCARD! a bug in the app will install the paid version of boot manager and will be unusable due to anti theft code.
10 have fun.
NOTES
Make a backup first
on some roms you need to install gapps.do this through bout manager in the install zips option.
Boot manager acts as a recovery for your alternate ROM, so you only use your regular recovery for your normal ROM.
This is an easier method for dual booting than the bootloader, but the bootloader if probably a better method. Be sure to give it a look.
Make a backup first

Sweet! I'll try it out and report back.
EDIT: It didn't work with CM9 Vanilla....

It should, I was running gederom 1.35 and have successfully bootEd cm7 several times.what went wrong?

I'm not sure... The screen just wouldn't boot to the new rom after fastboot and just left me with a black screen... I'll give it another try with a CM7 Rom.
EDIT: Didn't work... again... Maybe it just me...lol I'll just use the FFF Ex. but THANK YOU for this anyway!!!
Maybe someone else will have better luck!

I thought about boot manager the other day and decided to give it a try too
I actually had a version of Boot Manager pro from back int he day, haven't tried lite
I'm on gede v1.55 as my 'phone rom', and tried 3 variants of stock (the rooted 6.31, stock 6.31 from az, and modaco v8 6.3). It boots from FFF v1.4 (blue) to the orange Kindle Fire booter, but won't actually boot the rom (the animation across the orange kindle fire logo doesn't happen)
I tried the inverse too - using modaco as stock and gede as rom1, and it would bootloop back to FFF everytime.
I really want to switch between stock/ics

no root access or recover after custom rom

OK so we rooted my g2x using superoneclick
everything went fine, installed busybox and everything
flashed clockworkmod recovery and backed up my stock rom
installed a custom ROM ( cm7) from Rom Manager premium
went to download google apps but market already had started downloading my google apps like gmail and stuff cause for some reason market and nfs shift and everything were still on my phone ( when we did my friends, they all disapeared )
went to ROM Manager to fix permissions and i get the " cannot access priveleged commands" message, also i cannot boot into clockworkmod recovery to recover OR load a different ROM
basically it seems like i dont have root access or recovery after installing the ROM when i had both before the ROM was installed...
any help as to what happened and how to fix it?

I hate to break it to you but it sounds like you flashed a damaged rom and you were only using a fake flashed CWM. The good news is that this is pretty easy to fix with nvflash. Go to the developers forum and read the threads on flashing CWM through NVFlash. Then restore your backup. This is good to do anyways as it gives you more options in recovering from issues like this.
Also, check your sd card for corruption, I have seen cheap microsd cards that were purchased through ebay cause roms to become corrupted as they were being read. I use test disk and check the disk geometry for errors, that is a good way to discover if you were sold something like a 1GB card that was tampered with to make it look like a 32GB.
That happened to me when I first rooted. I learned that ROM manager was the problem. It wasn't actually installing a rom. Follow this you tube video. This Guy goes into details and shows u step by step on how to flash a rom on the g2x.

i have the APX driver installed correctly but it keeps failing when trying to flash clockwork
i guess the easy route isnt going to work for me and i need to use this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054492
______ on a side note .... i exchanged my G2x with a brand new one at the tmobile store .. so im trying the root process all over again but this time without using ROM Manager _________
If you are having problems getting nvflash to work correctly try doing it this way instead of the way he suggests:
1. Plug the USB cord into your computer
2. Hold down the vol up and vol down buttons
3. While still holding buttons down insert battery
4. Without releasing buttons click your desired option in One-Click ClockworkMod
Recovery NvFlasher
5. After the transfer is complete you can release the buttons, unplug the USB, and
remove battery.
6. Then put it together, reboot holding power and vol down. You should now be in
CWM recovery.

[Q] First Timer Tried to install custom rom and now phone not working

Hi, My Infuse in only getting live in download mode, no recovery no normal switch on.
I looked in the forum and read many threads before attempting it but Its just me. I may have done something wrong and missed some important point here's the summary What i followed.
i have an unlocked at&t infuse 4g as it is as it come from the company. I tried to flash with F1 innovation hd7 rom,for that these are the steps i took:
1 phone was already rooted.
1,1 downloaded hemidall one click uclb3 from Qkster plugged phone in download mode flashed bootloader when said done removed and rebooted to phone (No prob here)
2. changed the recovery file in /system/bin with 3e recovery --rebooted
3. installed rom manager from google play -> selected galaxy 1900 as suggested in one of post in xda booted in recovery
4 saw green recovery showing 3e recovery
5 placed rom zip file in sd card booted in recovery
6 wiped data, cache, dalvick cache then selected install zip , selected rom zip and installation started after it write completed successful i rebooted from recovery menu (it did not rebooted automatically)
7. Prob started it open with some lady sound saying 2 min to go and so on then it shows rainbow animation like some sort of screen saver
8 did step 6 again no luck step 7 happened again. (got into red color recovery lagfix was enabled)
9 did step 1.1 again (here i got in more prob. ) phone booted in black , blue dots.
then after some time rebooted phone tried download mode, phone come live in white screen. pulled battery
10 tried GTG odin although i did not get download mode but i tried in white screen
10.1 in Odin the ID:Com shows 0:com8 i think it detected the phone did what was suggested like pit, pda and phone press start
10.2 Odin message last line says initializing and top square says Failed on 2 of the square since phone was getting very hot i have to unplug it and remove battery (No luck white screen only)
11 cooled off the phone tried step 10 this time it did not said Failed but no message after Initializing rest of them are same as in Step 10 (
12. changed port did step 10 again this time its stuck at first step had to unplug as it was left for around 30Min.
now no white screen I'm having Download mode On now but no normal boot, no recovery mode so far. Tried the Hemidall once more but it failed to upload anything
Any suggestion would be much appreciated .
Thanks.

Odin never played nice with my computer...i would have o continuosly try and use it for a half hour to two hours before it would finally go through...heimdall on the other hand almost always goes through but sometikes takes a few tries...
Once you get it back tk stock and rooted the easiest way to get cwm recovery for flashing us by flashing entropys kernel using sgs kernel flasher (free from market)
You might also want ti try a fresh download of heimdall/odin and a new data cord...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA
will try tonight with Heimdall on diff. port and cable.
Thanks for the reply, I'll try up once again in Heimdall on diff port or may be diff machine before approaching service center. I don't have warranty cover so i have to see if they can work this out . the problem is this phone is not launched in India and its unlocked at&t lets see.
Back to Life
Thanks to #qkster and everyone from diff forum Using Heimdall I finally bring back my phone to stock.
What i did : 1.i changed the usb cable first, put it in download mode, simply flashed it with Heimdall booted my phone in some distorted color.
2. put phone in donwload mode, flashed with flash bootloader option. booted normally to stock version
Phone info is as such :-
firmware version :2.3.6,
baseband version I997UCLB3
kernal 2.6.35.7
build no. Gingerbread.uclb3
Now if someone can point me what i should do now can i leave my phone as it is?
1. Since I'm not at&t user i see that default network setting is looked (which i may need while roaming, need to manually select network operator )
2. I think the at&t programs won't affect my user exp. with this phone?
what are the safest option for me to use any of the custom rom My choice is Vangabond and F1 innovation HD7. ( can i follow the same step i wrote in first post, is it correct? )
Thanks again

As for your previous problem with the phone hanging at the animation. I thought the Emanc flash was on the verge of that as well, but it just took some time to do its thing. How long did you wait before restarting? You might just need to give it more to finish the initial boot.

I waited for around 4~5 Min. not more somewhere i read about rainbow problem i thought it was the same but yes you may be right since that was my first try and i was not sure what was that, leads to other action.
animation was colorful blocks moving in circle breaking and joing up.
Tried once more with F1 Innovation hd 7 and it looks good so far
Hi, after having it re-set using Heimdall I tried Qkster Kernal flashing for CWM (red), did it worked fine, Backed up , wiped all data, cache ,dalvik cache, install zip from sd ie f1_innovation_hd7.0.
works smoothly now.
This time too i got the colorful animation of blocks joining and breaking up in circle but it went on to setting wizard after ~ 1min.
phone working fine. I have unlocked Network, Video Calling on network function, removed all At&t apps and so on
Thanks to everyone !

Rainbow,
As you have discovered, flashing with heimdall in download mode is pretty simple. 1. Flash ROM. 2. Flash 2nd time with bootloader checked if needed. 3. Flash Kernel for recovery. 4. Wipe 5. Flash custom rom.
Re: bluetooth on F1. I'm not sure. I haven't had much experience with bt on ports or native infuse roms. You can try a reboot if you're not connecting. Try a different bt device. Contact Trucker to see if he has had any experience re: bt.
Thanks bt problem solved.
Thanks i tried with F1 Innovation HD7.0 but it did not worked for me so I flashed again with Aeon 1.3.1 and is working fine . Thanks to the developers.

[Q] Flashing Cyanogenmod 10 first time, won't get past boot up

Noob looking for all the help he can get!!!!!
Hi, I recently rooted my Samsung Galaxy S 2 for T-mobile, because I was sick of waiting for jelly bean to officialy come out for it, and ever since it's been a nightmare. I was running the most recent version of ICS that t-mobile has for my phone.
I got instructions on how to root at the unlocker . com
After that, I went to the Cyanogenmod website, went through their wiki and found the zip for my phone, (I also put the gapps zip on too). I booted into Clockwork mod recovery, did a back up, did a data wipe, but not a cache wipe as the instructions i was using from theunlocker.com did not say I had too. Flashed both zips from my external sd, then restarted. It booted with the Cyanogenmod name inside two spining circles. I left it like this knowing it may take a bit, and I come back 20 mins later expecting it to be done and it is in the same place i left it 20 mins ago. I decide to take out the battery, boot into Clockworkmod and restore. It booted fine back into ICS and all my data was still there, except all of the apps I had stored on my sd card would not work/show up with the icon it was supposed to. when i tapped it, it said that it was not installed on the phone. I decided not to let this worry me, as i decided to use ROM Manager app to do the job instead.
When i opened ROM Manager it prompted me to flash Clockworkmod recovery, so I did. It flashed my phone to Clockworkmod Recovery v6.0.2.7. I then went to download Cyanogenmod 10 for my phone. It downloaded with gapps 4.1. When I tapped install, it restarted my phone into Clockworkmod recovery, but did not install anything, just sent me to the main menu. So I decided i'd try getting the zip from the Cyanogenmod website again. I booted into Clockworkmod, wiped data AND cache this time. installed the zips, and restarted. I get the same problem, stuck at the cyanogenmod boot up circles spining. so i turn off my phone, boot back into clockworkmod, restore, and now i'm stuck in boot cycle with the stock ICS.
Please can anyone help me!?!?!?!

First things first: the Jelly Bean update brings with it changes to the core file system organization in Android. Google "Android 4.2 Updates, Multi-User, and TWRP | TeamWin" for a brief explanation from TWRP (which, by the way, I recommend over ClockworkMod Recovery, although both can do the job). That, I believe, explains your missing data.
How are you obtaining your ROM/gapps zips? Are you downloading on your phone? If so, over wifi or mobile data? It is always a good idea to a) download on your computer and transfer the file to the phone and b) make a note of the MD5 checksum and verify the zip file before installing (any file browser worth its salt should be able to generate an MD5 sum). What it sounds like to me is your ROM download was borked in some way but it installed far enough to screw with your file system. I would recommend using your ICS backup to connect to a computer and load a ROM file downloaded from there before attempting to re-flash.
Maybe, just maybe you didn't clear cache and dalvik when installing cm. I had this problem and I realised I didn't wipe it. I wiped cache and dalvik cache from cwm and it booted fine.

Thanks I will look into TWRP. I am getting my ROM/gapps zips straight from cyanogenmod's wiki for my phone, i get gapps from the link they provide. As for MD5, I do not know what that is other than it was generated when i backed up, and checked when i restored.
i have the same problem
i tried it with my galaxy fit s5670
i tried to flash cm-10.1-20130117-NIGHTLY-beni, some another version named of jelly bean pure rom and also TouchWiz_JB_V5
always the same thing it gets stuck at logo than nothing
i did everithing in order clear data, factory reset, clear cache, clear dalvik cache through cwm recovery
can someone help?
is it because of low int. space?
i found app named s2e to make sd card as int. memory but it didn't work
any suggestions?
thanks in advance
Here's my new problem, I'm stuck in boot loop with my restore of stock ICS, so when I go into download mode (+and- with power button while usb plugged in) I hear the "ching" that windows makes when you plug in a usb device, bu when I navigate to where removable disc should be in my computer, it is not there, so i don't know what to do, I just want my phone to work again, even if that means starting all over with stock ICS.
I appreciate your time and help.

what ROM are you coming from?
Sounds to me like the new multi-user stuff
I experienced something similar and determined that the phone wasn't hung at that bootscreen -- it was busy moving my 18 gigs of stuff (i9300) from /storage/sdcard to /storage/sdcard/0. Apparently this is the "home data" folder for the primary user of a 4.2 device and CM10.1 (I'm assuming you're using that because of the problem) appears to be that way. It would have been nice to know beforehand that I should have just waited the 1/2-hour I needed (took about that long to move back what had been moved; very little hadn't)
So look for that 0 folder and move the contents up one -- your old ROM will (hopefully) be the way it was before. If you decide to go CM10.1 again, just wait, *really* long, at first boot -- or clean out your internal sd card to make the transition quicker.

You won't see it appear as removable storage because it's in download mode -- removable storage (and the later MTP mode) are done by the OS, and the downloader screen is much "dumber" than that.
HOWEVER, all is not lost!
Try get a ROM which you can flash with ODIN. Either something off of www . samfirmware . com (stock firmwares available there) or DarkyROM (darkyrom . com) (Sorry, can't post actual links because I'm apparently not allowed to until I've posted more stuff . I've found the S1 and S3 to be practically unbrickable in this regard -- I assume the S2 to be the same. ODIN can push a completely new ROM onto your device, rescuing it. If you download from samfirmware, there is a pdf with instructions available on their site, but it basically boils down to:
1) Download a ROM. If you are downloading a zip file, extract the .tar.md5 file inside somewhere -- this is the file you need to flash via ODIN
1) ensure you have the samsung drivers installed (they will be if you have Kies installed, otherwise google for them -- or ask, and I'll try to help)
2) put your phone into download mode (vol-down+home+power)
3) plug your phone into your PC
4) fire up ODIN, you should see a message about a connected device on-screen
5) click the "PDA" button, browse to the ROM image (the .tar.md5 file) and select it
6) the default options have always worked for me -- just click "Start". The process will take some time, but there is feedback in ODIN. Your phone should (after 1-5 minutes) reboot into a fresh, clean ROM.
If you installed a stock ROM from samfirmware.com, you'll have to go about rooting and installing Clockwork mod again. Hope this helps.

[Q] CM10.1 Streak 7 build

I have less than 10 post so I'm unable to ask the question in the development area where this question directly applies...
I have NVFLASHed the zip on giveen's original post, and the other zip that's like on page 35 (or somewhere near there) on his thread and with neither download does my Streak 7 boot all the way up. I downloaded the OP zip on Feb 27, the pg 35 zip on Mar 18; I don't think they are the same thing. Also, I've been using Fastboot+ADB(20926) the whole time.
Maybe of note, I've NEVER had ADB work. Fastboot and NVFLASH have always worked. I use always and never because I have only had the tab since January(2013) when it stopped booting and became stuck on the Dell logo (which is what it still does). TWRP has been loaded successfully, but it doesn't load/run 100% of the time when I go to option 2. I have also noticed that with the pg35 zip, the Dell logo looks brighter, but it's not the 2nd animated (stock) logo.
Also don't know if it's useful info, but in TWRP I have rooted it with SuperUser, and gapps installs, but it never boots so I couldn't say if any of it works, or even what it looks like for that matter. :/
And lastly, yes, I have re-NVFLASHed it a few times with each zip (maybe twice, each?) and nothing different; still stuck at Dell logo.
You shouldn't be messing with any other zip besides what is in the original post.
After you flashed it with my nvflash pack, you don't need to root it, its already rooted.
Ok, I'll take another look at your original post, giveen. Thank you for the reply.
Just so I'm clear, I didn't try to install both Beta2 zips simultaneously. I've been trying to get the one on the original post to work since I've downloaded it. I'm pretty sure I downloaded to used all the files on the original post and only got as far as the unanimated dell logo. But like I said, I'll check again to make sure.
And for clarity's sake these are the steps I've been taking:
1.) I downloaded and installed Flashboot+ADB (the installed copy is posted above, but I did at one point have two different versions)
2.) I gave the DS7 the three-button salute to put it into ADB mode
3.) Once the three side buttons are illiminated, I connect the DS7 to the computer with drivers installed
4.) Computer detects APX (I'm pretty sure that's what it was the first time) device and I point it to the nvidia drivers in the Beta2 folder
5.) Nvidia (long name) device is ready for use (I'm running WinXP, btw)
6.) Open cmd prompt, change dir to beta2 folder
7.) call Install... whatever the long name is I don't remember off the top of my head
and it does it's thing and doesn't give me any errors and reboots or shutsdown on it's own I believe. I power it back on and gets stuck on the dell logo. Same steps with what I thought was another zip of Beta2 posted on a page in the 30s; same result.
TWRP is installed and I can get to it some of the times when I go to option 2; other times I get a dark screen that hangs and I have to pin-reset the device.
Is the device toasts, or am I doing it wrong? :silly:
It sounds like you did every thing right. Does the batch file for anything when you run it?

No, no errors. It doesn't complain at all. I could dump it all to a file to make sure but I haven't noticed any errors and it has never crashed on me while running.
I have also NVFLASHed it back with the 2.2.2 zip you posted. I get an error on 22.img(or 23?) being missing and it stops. It'll boot from there, but it isn't stable. It often hangs and I have to pin-reset the device as well; but it'll make it to the lock screen with the restore you posted. I don't know if that's because 2.2.2 was unstable for our device or it's another sign that its about the end of service life for my DS7. I have not attempted to upgrade it to HC from there.

[Q] Cyanogenmod stuck, hours in vain

For Tab 2 P3100:
I'm a stranger to flashing Android ROMs, and it's hardly a surprise that after 2 hours of struggling with my rooting and then flashing, Cyanogenmod gets stuck on the blue-circles load screen.
Cause of the problem would likely be that I unknowingly flashed in the newest nightly release, which was unstable. All stock roms I've encountered either don't allow me to load it from Odin because it's not a .md5, or it takes hours to download (and the server likely cuts me off before I'm done).
I've been roaming these boards (and others) for a long while, but there's been no easy way to unscrew the Cyanogenmod up without those stock roms that have to be downloaded from failing servers with terrible download rates and cut me off. Any help on how to easily recover it with any working ROM in any way (even if it unroots the device) would be appreciated. (Got to lower my standards by now!)
Alternatively, are there any custom ROMs out there that flash straight from Odin instead of from ROM Manager (I don't know how to make Cyanogenmod flash from Odin)? With the OS stuck in boot I obviously can't open ROM Manager app to flash a new one...
Side note: Clockwork Recovery is definitely on my Tab, but using Vol.Up and Power buttons won't conjure it (although Vol.Down and Power does conjure my Odin). Therefore my plight.

Make sure you hold the Power and vol + until you see the Samsung Tab2 and then keep holding the vol+ a little longer till Recovery starts to load.
Here is a good video on installing CM 10.2 with download links in the description area.

Try wiping data from recovery.
You know, it's a sad day when your cellular service is faster than your home broadband.
Hi, thanks for your replies.
I've made some progress, because I could load my default ROM again via Odin, so I can sustainably retry different Cyanogenmod builds.
Sadly, I've tried the latest nightly build, release candidate and stable release, and ALL of them have gotten stuck during booting (at the cyanogenmod spinning circle).
I have since tried to reformat the device and clear the cache, but that apparently hasn't been working as well.
Regarding the YouTube tutorial video shared above, I tried following the steps exactly, but it appears that my Clockworkmod Recovery mode screen looks quite different from the one in the video, and mine doesn't have some of the options it has. (I did use ROM Manager to automatically download CWM Recovery, not sure what is wrong with that). In any case, I still can't conjure Recovery mode from Vol.Up + Power button--I can only access it by using the ROM Manager app and clicking restart into Recovery.
Is there a similar error to what I'm experiencing? Because so far I still haven't found a thread that has a resolved issue with my device's symptoms.
Thanks for any help again!
Thanks for your help, particularly the YouTube tutorial video link that concisely showed me how the successful install looks like.
Turns out the CWM Recovery that ROM Manager automatically downloaded and flashed for me the first couple of times was an outdated/screwed up one that didn't work properly (ie. couldn't follow every step in the video because some features required in the video's steps were unavailable).
For future reference, if anyone encounters the same problem I did, it's something wrong with the Clockworkmod Recovery version, no doubt. For some reason, one fine instance like any other, ROM Manager finally got it right and installed the right version of CWM Recovery and I can now access all the features, and pressing Vol.Up + Power does conjure the Recovery Mode now.
Thanks for helping me fix my tablet, guys. I kinda absolutely hate TouchWiz UI and Cyanogenmod is indeed miles ahead. Happily running the latest nightly build of 10.2, loving it.
Cyanegonmod stuck
I cant reboot system , I have tried everything but wipe data/system restore. everytime it goes back to same screen. Now I am getting error messages while back and restoring image of data. I my be just not familiar but it shows my recovery files dated back to 2000 and 2010. How could the date change.
