Anyone try this new app called Sidecar. It allows you to make free calls, video chat, sms and share location. Works over wifi too. I tried it and it works. Pretty cool. Anyone else try it?

I'm considering dropping my unlimited texting plan and using an app in its place to save some money. I know I can use google voice for sms but is there an app that will allow sms and mms without requiring the other person to have the same app too? You can't send mms with google voice can you? I like the google voice idea because I can just use one number and not require anyone to use a special number just to text me. I think this could be a great discussion on how we can help each other find ways to save on our bills!
Edit: If this has already been discussed please direct me to that thread. Thanks!
I looked at the apps I used for sms and issue is that all of the one's I used were app to app. Best bet is google voice, maybe try some of the mass instant massaging apps, like ebuddy or palringo.

Use text plus, its in the market. You can create a profile and include a signature that will appear in text... You can also send and recieve mms texts. Works over wifi and 3g , 4g. Its a free app

Application that forwards your sms messages and phone log to Gmail. It can even be activated remotely. I thought this is a cool app anyone who has ever forgotten their phone. Works flawlessly on my Skyrocket.

I use MightyText, it has a chrome addon that displays your SMS and lets you reply.
Mighty Text doesn't send all the calls made to your phone to Gmail does it?

Thanks for sharing. Seems like a pretty cool idea.
Has SMS2Gmail app been pulled?
Can't seem to find SMS2Gmail...has it been pulled? Anyone have the apk? Thanks
I just use Go SMS Pro. you can backup all your sms/mms messages to your sd card as well as send them to your gmail.
I like Clockwork's DeskSMS. Can text from my tablet, computer and phone.
Yeah DeskSMS seems to be one of the best that doesn't have issues with a $5 per year cost. It's super annoying because MightyText is a free solution but it doesn't sync everything properly, very annoying!
Can anyone make a free wifi calling app or does anyone know how to make free wifi calls Like Line 2 application free for 7 days.

try google voice + sip.
TextPlus can make free calls now
the fritz box fon app
Check if your plan allows wifi calling and you might have a preinstalled app.
I know that with Rogers, my droid came with a wifi calling app. Some plans have it enabled, where as others you have to pay a premium.
Other than that, I also recommend TextPlus.
Skype should work...
Check out GrooveIP in the Market if you haven't already. It makes calls over Google Voice, and works well. It's not free, but it's worth the 5 bucks.
This usually dont work very well
more app at android phones, just search at market.
+1 Google Voice + SIP, and skype is actually a pretty good alternative if you are in a bind.
how.................
Skype works well, calls to numbers are pretty cheap. The only downside with the app is it likes to run in the background and you have to sign out to turn it off.
I need to use it
but my country not have service ^^'
Many people are using Viber or Tango, you might give those apps a try.
Does anyone know of a good way to monitor text messages on an android phone remotely?

If you are on AT&T you can use the AT&T messages app. And it will do text messages, picture messages, and voicemails. It is a really cool app.
I saw some applications that state that they can track SMS, calls, location remotely. Try searching Market for "monitor sms", you might find something.
I found this app on the market that is the final solution, it's called Textra... none of that <nosubject> crap and it works AMAZING... I just have a bit of a problem...
