This is not meant to be a comparison - rather just an observation. I find photos taken with the Sense 3.6 ROM(ARHD 6.6.4) to be lot less noisier than the Sense 4.0 ROM(ORDROID 7.1.1). I think the cameras on both are the same.
Does anyone else see this?
Any idea why this could be?

The pics in 3.6 arent compressed thanks to the camera mod, while 4.0 is? I know its included in ordroid but its a dif version
Sent from my sensational sensation 4g
I don't believe its a compression thing, I had noticed the same thing as well. Even in bright light Sense 4 rom pics contain a lot of noise. Could be because of what sensor the camera app is expecting. The One S sensor is completely different than what we have on the Sensation. I am curious however if the pics in Sense 4 are just as grainy with a market app instead of the HTC app. Might give it a whirl tonight and see.

see the same issue with fast burst camera but i guess that's not the best app to judge this on.
can you recommend any good apps - don't want to rely on reviews on tech websites.
Actually I don't know if its just me, but it seems the camera pics on Sense 4 Roms are much improved now? This past weekend I ran one of the latest Sense 4 Roms which are off the new base and I didn't see any extra noise in daylight pics and indoor pics seemed to be on par with a Sense 3.6 Rom. Anyone notice camera pics being improved now in the new base in Sense 4?

I think you're right Gustav, I was noticing the same thing looking at my pics today. I think it was the One S rom's camera app that was producing the noisy pictures, whereas with the new Ville C2 base we've got much better picture quality!
Idk i find it that on the sense 4.0 roms it focus much much better and colors looks better on sense 3.6 taking a picture makes me want to burn my phone lol.. it comes out so washed out
Sent From My Sexy Sensation.
Observed the same thing. Pictures are much better now.
ROM maturity i guess.
I feel like HTC cranks up the contrast ratio more on the Sense 4.0 cameras. If you apply contrast to noise, it'll look more obvious. I love how the 4.0 cams focus and the speed at which they take pictures, but i wish the picture could look perhaps a little more realistic instead of instagram like.

There are quite a few out there, what do you think is the best camera and and what apps have you tried (if you think one is best, but haven't tried others, not very valid tbh!)
Myself, I would like one that takes pics in the same ratio as my phone screen. The Desire HD would do this. I know you actually lose resolution, but they look better on the phone...
Can't say I've tried them all, but Vignette is pretty good. It has a wide range of options to select from.
+1 for Vignette - I use it all the time
you can check out my review of it from the link in my signature
Had a quick play with Vignette, certainly seems very good. I love I can set the volume rocker to be the shutter release!
Is there a way to change aspect ratio of the photo's, so it takes full screen? If I select Full Screen of 16:9 as the frame, it does this, but crops the photo to only be about 600 by 300...
Another +1 user for Vignette here =D
Camera Magic is the one i use most. Just because it's fast and has both rapid fire mode and timer mode.
Camera 360 ultimate is kool also.

yes 360 is really nice
I'm shopping for a new camera app right now, as the stock one for AOSP ROMs is horrible. Can't believe how crappy it is, especially after coming off a modded Sense ROM (Virtuous) where that camera kicked ass. Right now I'm torn between Vignetta and Camera Advance. It seems that most here like Vignette, but what about Camera Advance? On Amazon it only got 3/5 stars, but after playing with the "free" version it seems pretty good.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Miui Camera or Sleek Camera. Miui is basically a prettier version of the stock camera and seems to work well on CM7 if you turn down the resolution.
Sleek Camera is a little bit buggy but it takes high quality photos on CM7 roms without any bloat or all the extras of Camera 360 and others. I highly recommend this app as a partial fix for CM7 users.

Camera Advance Pro is very good so far in my testing but still suffers from the same problems as the stock CM7 camera.

+1 Vinette
It's good. +1 for Vinette, though little bit slow.
+1 Vignette is pretty good xD
I think Pro HD Camera is the best.many settings available after take a photo
I just want an app that controls shutter speed, but pretty sure that can't happen.

Well the Milestone 2 camera is pretty bad, camera 360 allowed me to take some great pics. My friend who has a SGS didn't notice any difference with 360 compared to his stock app.

Little Photo has some nice effects although I wouldn't say its a camera replacement app. Coming from the iPhone which has so many wonderful camera apps, I must say android does seem a little behind. I wonder why it doesn't have the same broad range of apps?
Ok so i switched over to the One X from the Galaxy S3 for 4 main reasons, 1. When HTC finally is up to date with the source codes, this phone can most likely beat the S3, 2. The screen shows colors and looks a lot better, 3. The build quality over the S3, and 4. The camera. But after some use the camera isnt all that i was expecting unless im missing something, to me the camera doesnt seem as good as the comparison pictures and the pictures i havet taken with the S3 and One X. Any ideas on how to improve the camera capture quality?
Reduce saturation levels by -1.
Otherwise, pink seems like vibrant red and distorts a lot of colors.

For best quality use a custom ROM with the HQ camera mods that disable compression on the jpg and up the bit rate on the video.

This will not fix the pathetic default color settings nor will it fix the incorrect calibration of the preset white balance options. I must say that as nice a phone as the hox is the camera is a rather disgraceful dud and an egg in their face. As pointed out earlier reducing saturation by -1 take the state of the camera from useless (skin looks like cooked shrimp) to merely atrocious. HTC really needs to fix that pronto, and the problem is somewhere in the demosaicing and color conversion algorithms.
I love the camera on the One X.

Sorry for my noobness... but I flashed the paranoid ROM for my one S, the ROM is awesome except I don't like the new camera UI(It has a solid bar that takes up 1/4 of the screen, just for the shot button...), and I don't know if its possible to change this?
Another thing is how am I able to get beats Audio after custom ROM?
thanks in advance!
Paranoid is based of CM10/9 (main point is its stock android) so you will not be able to use the sense camera as it requires the sense framework. Basically, the camera requires HTC's proprietary camera drivers that are only available in sense-based roms like viper. Unless some magical developer with amazing skills comes along, it will never be possible. Now for beats, i have a solution and its called Awesomebeats.

i personally don't like it as i prefer a flat sound without any EQ changes but whatever, to each there own.
Hope i helped
Thanks! that helps a lot!
so if im not mistaken, it means that basically all the stock CM9/10's camera UI has that huge bar taking over the screen, and resulting smaller pictures?
what if I install some third party camera software and use those instead, do I get the same basic performance(pic quality) from my camera?
Didn't virtuous team achieve something like this over in the sensation boards? Basicly a real senseless Rom that kept the camera but replaced basicly everything else with aosp stuff all within the HTC framework? That would be really interesting if someone can achieve that for us since we all love aosp but want to keep the camera

Yes and no. Im going to assume that when you took your pictures on sense, you left the widescreen setting, meaning the pictures you took with the sense camera are actually smaller. When left in widescreen, they cropped from the top and bottom resulting in a 6 MP widescreen shot. The AOSP camera takes the full 8 MP. Dont be fooled by the aspect ratio

Yea but too bad the quality ain't the same, google should really consider better cameras for stock I mean that's all a nexus device really lacks anyways

This is really one of the biggest drivers for people sticking with sense-based ROMs over AOSP and/or AOKP-based ROMs.
So, if you want the stock camera - look at the sense-based ROMs on the forum.

well i did extensive tests, both low and well lit situations, quality is the same. As a matter of fact, maybe even slightly better on AOSP. There is less compression, and can be seen when zoomed in. The only difference between the AOSP camera and Sense is the speed and functionality. And if youre using a Nexus, the speed of the camera is insanely fast. Look up videos on youtube, the nexus has a good camera.
Change to the viperone s Rom its great and you keep the camera from the original Rom

Hey guys, which version of android gives you better photos? I switched from cm10 to hyper nonsense with sense camera, and it seems to give me better photo quality, though it could just be the placebo effect. I've never actually done a side by side comparison, and any feedback regarding this would be great

IIRC, Hyper NonSense is a hybrid/non-Sense build but still uses the Sense framework and camera. and in my opinion, the picture quality was always better using Sense rather than AOSP...something to do with the picture resolution and camera UI
I agree, that's what keeps me on sense roms.
Currently I have come away from sense 4 and gone back to sense 3.6 (Elegancia) as, although sense 4 is nice, 3.6 is faster and smoother. Also flashed the amaze camera mod and its great

ARHD ICS with SENSE 3.6, that's it....
No one could give better Image quality than STOCK
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda app-developers app
The general consensus seems to be that sense 3.6 camera is superior. How about sense 4.5? Does anybody have any side by side comparison of sense vs aosp or different versions of sense? Just curious
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda app-developers app
The camera in Viper ROM is good and has nice tweaks like being able to use the voume buttons to capture picture or video directly, but I think the picture quality is still that bit better with the 3.6 camera or amaze camera mod.
Hey guys,
I recently noticed that the One XL camera is doing some post-processing after the image is taken. It sharpens and brightens the photos, but also leaves them looking washed out. I've always thought that darker One XL photos looked a little washed out when posted on Facebook or Instagram.
This is especially evident when using the review feature in the Sense camera. When you take a photo, the one shot being reviewed looks sharp with a good contrast. But if you immediately open the photo that's in the gallery, you'll see the difference immediately.
Now, I'm wondering if there is any way to disable this? It seems to also happen in CM10, so it might be a hardware feature.
What ROM are you running currently?
I've never experienced this to be honest
