thats the stock recovery. if you want a custom recovery, you will have to reflash it.

[Q] Phone force boots into recovery [Solved]

So here's the deal:
I've been working with a pretty decently running version of Cognition for the last two weeks on my Captivate. I decided to give Perception II a try and check out some gingerbready goodness. That's where the problem started. Perception for some reason wouldn't allow me back into Recovery Mode no matter what I try so I forced the phone to download and flashed back to 2.1 stock with ODIN. I then reinstalled CWM Recovery and tried to flash back to my Cognition backup I made in ROM manger.
The process looks like everything completed fine but when my phone boots, it loads the AT&T screen for a minute or two and then reboots into recovery mode.
What's the deal?
The details I had when using Cognition was:
CWM Recovery (I believe with LagFix)
Overstock Kernel
It didn't work with my original 2.2 backup either, I still get the same boot into recovery problem.
Any ideas?
Nandroid backups don't actually restore the rom, just your settings and **** of that particular rom. You have to Flash cognition then restore the backup and it'll be like you never changed anything.

Let me guess, you didn't convert back to RFS before flashing??
Try Factory reset. And don't use the backup you have for Cognition, Flash a fresh full ROM. Your backup could be messed up.
EDIT: Studa beat me to it.. Grrrr

This is exactly what I needed to do. Apparently, (after finding a link I somehow overlooked before posting this) it had something to do with the format of the partition so upgrading the Stock to Cognition forced the RFS to EXT3 change allowing -all- of my backups to work. Thanks guys for getting me in the right direction.
Perhaps Im a little Slow
So Im suffering the same issue. Running Serendipity 7 update 2
I looked down at my phone one day and it was in clockwork recovery v2.5.1.2
I figured I had loaded it by an errant button press. So I selected reboot system now. It goes back into Clockwork right after the serendipity 7 splash screen.
Tried Factory Reset
Tried doing a restore
Tried doing a serendipity 7 re install Original and update.
I can install zips from sd card including the external one.
Any Recommendations ?

[Q][GT-i9020a] How do I reflash back to factory?

Hi, new Android user here.
I was trying to root my Nexus S phone yesterday and I'm having problems. There is a lot of rooting guides out there and I used one from xda and also one from unlockr.com. Managed to root the phone ok (I think), but everytime I flash a custom ROM, the phone won't start at all, it just sits at the boot up screen and repeats itself.
So I'm thinking, I should just start over again. So I flash the stock ROM from xda back to 2.3.1. Everything seems ok, the phone starts up... but it's always stuck on airplane mode and the phone itself doesn't even show stuff like IMEI, mac address anymore.
So now I figure I've probably messed the phone up enough and need help lol. How do I go about reflashing the stock ROM and getting my Nexus back to out of the box condition (Stock ROM and no custom bootloader)?? Any guides or step by step instructions would be very helpful.
Thanks
Did you wipe before flashing roms?
Sent from my Nexus S c",)
Maybe flashing the KB2 modem would help that but the 9020a came stock with 2.3.3 and not 2.3.1 so that could be it...I'm not sure but that software wasn't meant at all for ours so it could be part of the problem. But if I was you I'd take a look at this thread wich has all the stock software for your phone. Make sure you wipe everything in clockework and then flash the stock rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13123996&postcount=39
dsixda uploaded the stock backup and the stock recovery, you can read more at that link, good luck hope it helps
You can download the full stock ROM from the link below:
http://goo.gl/8P8vl
Move the zip file to sdcard. Boot into recovery and flash the ROM. It should get you back to stock 2.3.4 ROM, all locked.

edit: well now everything is ok again, wiped data, flashed with CM7 and now it says 2.3.4, go figure.

S3 stuck in bootloop after returning from CM9

I decided to give the new CM9 rom a try this morning on my verizon s3. after playing around a little i decided that I liked the stock rooted rom I had before so I was going to return to my nandroid backup. However, CM9 has its own recovery. I flashed my other recover, which was InvisibleK's recovery, which actually boots into a stock rom from recovery but never really goes into the recovery menu. So now I am stuck bootlooping because I think the recovery is trying to boot up but isnt finding the rom becuase I couldnt flash it from the CWM rcover that I was on with CM9. I can get into download mode but of course Odin is not seeing my phone for some reason. Anyone out there have anysuggestions? or did I just make myself a fancy new paperweight?
got odin
i got to odin now. i recognized my phone. I switched usb cords to the one that came with the phone
flashed stock rooted rom no luck
flashed stock rooted rom thought i was in the clear and now its bootlooping at the verizon boot animation. Im pretty sure i just have to factory reset but i cant get into recovery

Revert to complete stock with no root, then try to access the samsung recovery and do a factory reset from there.
unrooting brought me back to stock recovery
I finally sbf'ed back to the stock rom and being unrooted must have not allowed the phone to use the recovery I had installed and instead took me to the stock recovery where i was able to factory reset and all is good now. Phew..... that was a close one
thanks skander
Thank you very much. I actually tried that last night. I was getting desperate. wasnt sure if it would work or not but I thought maybe that and if that didnt work i would try flashing a different recovery from adb but i can never get adb to work from my pc. Anyway though, didnt matter. its all good now. Just got root back and learned a valuable lesson. thanks again....

How did you try to flash the RUU? You can not flash it like a normal ROM
Also if you are looking for the RUU try HERE
I see what you're trying to do, that won't work...you can't flash a recovery to get to stock because stock phone won't flash from recovery, which is why once you get root the first thing you do is flash a custom recovery. Use the RUU to flash it back to shipped state stock, or if you are trying to keep root and just want to use a different ROM. More clarification on what you are trying to accomplish would be nice.
If you did a Nandroid prior to flashing CM10 I would wipe all partitions except SD and restore the Nandroid, if all you want to do is get CM10 off your phone. Remember Nandroid Backups are your friend do them before flashing anything and save them to your PC if you don't want the SD space taken. Doing this has made flashing pain free and hassle free. If I don't like how my phone is running after a flash I can always get it right back to how it was when I was happy with it. Lastly there was a time when I had a Nandroid backup of a Sense ROM and was on AOSP and wanted to flash back to Sense, well my Backup wouldn't flash. After spending hours raising hell I did a clean install of the ROM booted once, then rebooted into recovery and flashed the Nandroid backup that had the settings I was using (when I was on Sense, it won't restore data and apps used on AOSP)...sorry if its not much help but more details are needed. But you have a starting point.

i have installed CM10 without backing up any image, therefore i cannot restore the orifginal vendor's rom. Nandroid back would have prevented this situation. the second problem is that I couldnt find any RUU for this phone. indeed the link you attached seems to have it bu unfortunately it is in chineese and after pushing all the buttons i couldn't download the file. so my options are
1- to pray that someone will be kind enough to publish it in a manner that it is accessible
2- I have a friend with a simillar phone , can i somehow back up hus rom and restore it in mine ????
thank

[Q] Can't get back to stock

Lets just say I screwed something up big time. I tried to flash Cyanogenmod 11 and that caused me to not be able to boot up my phone. Now I can't flash back to stock using hemidall because my charging/USB port is toast (I was using my Mom's phone to change my battery). Previsouly I was on Cyanogenmod 9.
I did make a backup from CWM before flashing but since the flash to Cyanogenmod 11 replaced CWM with TWRP I can't restore.
I am running the Wind variant of this phone
Anybody have any idea what to do? Can somone recommend a rom/kernal that will bring me back to CWM so I can restore or at least boot up my phone? I did try a couple ROM's but they all just gave errors from TWRP

Flash back to stock + root using lumin's guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21953878&postcount=2
Then flash CM11 from there. If you want to go back to your previous ROM, you should also be able to flash directly from the rooted Gingerbread ROM, then you'll be able to restore your CWM backup after the flash.
