[Q] Problem Flashing ROM to SGH-T839 [Sidekick 4G] ay0teddy Gingerclone v2 - General Questions and Answers

I've been trying to flash a ROM [Gingerclone V2] to my Sidekick 4G for a while now - I've ODINed 4 times due to lack of success. My problem seems to be the exact one as this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406745
but I haven't tried flashing a different ROM yet.
I already have the new binary recovery and .zip on my SD card before I start each time
My latest procedure:
> Using ES File Manager, copy Recovery into system>bin
> Go to ROM Manager; Flash ClockWorkMod (even though it says it's already flashed, I do it just to be safe)
> Install from SD card
> Phone goes to stock recovery screen. I select Reinstall Packages. Screen goes to CWM recovery
> Wipe Data/Factory Reset - gets stuck at formatting sdcard .android_secure
> battery pull
> Start up into stock recovery - choose wipe data, and then select reinstall packages; screen goes to CWM recovery
> Select Wipe Cache Partition
> Check Mounts - Unmount System
Here's where I'm not sure exactly what to do, and there don't seem to be any clear instructions...
> I choose Install from SD card (I don't remember the exact wording); find the zip file; select it
> It starts the install
> When install finishes, in big blue text reboot now comes up at the top of the screen (it's cut off, but I think that's what it says)
> The phone reboots, stuck at the splash screen, vibrating as if a Force Close repeatedly, as reported in the linked thread.
> ODIN
I may have forgotten a step or two. It would be very much appreciated if somebody could tell me I did wrong ^.^
Also: might be a n--b question, but is there such thing as an ODIN file for custom ROMs? Is there anyway I can get ay0teddy's ROM as this type of file and ODIN it directly?

[Q] 2.3.4 update failure leads to whole crash..

Ok, so Was using my nexus s today and I kept getting the notification to perform a system update to the newest version of gingerbread (2.3.4). Prior to pressing update my phone was at 2.3.1 default with 2.5.### ClockworkRecovery and it was rooted. Everything worked on it perfect. So I proceeded to download and install the update, and CWR fails to install the update and I would have to take out the battery to restart the phone. I had been doing this multiple times and I wanted to get it updated. So I go into CWR and try installing it manually:
I look around and try to find the file and I couldn't, I reset user data to see if it would fix it and it didn't, then I go back and start formatting the following folders, /system, /cache, /data and one other but I did not format /boot, so Then (noob me) I restart to phone and of course the rom is gone. I get back to recovery and try to restore from update.zip but the console said the file could not be found, I look up my model and look for a full verison rom and the mount my usb storage and place the rom .zip on the storage and try to install from .zip on sd but it did not work so I end up grabbing this and installing it and now I'm stuck, when I do adb shell it doesn't pick up the phone any more, it can fast boot on the phone but it can't go into recovery and I have no idea what I should do to try to fix this problem.
NOTE: before I ened up installing and replacing the recovery, my /system folder would not mount due to "invalid arguments"
Model is i9020T
I don't have firmware version access
and if there is any other information I can provide please let me know
Update:
I got the device to be recognized by fastboot but not by "adb shell", when I type adb shell no device is found, so I guess my question now is do I need to just flash a new recovery and then try to flash a new rom?
Solution:
1. fastboot your phone, (volume up+lock/power button)
2. place the recovery image you want to install in the "Android SDK"/tools/ folder
3. in your cmd/terminal, while in "Android SDK"/tools/ execute:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery "NAME-OF-RECOVERY.img"
4. once that is installed and it should work, then restart your recovery mode
5.clear all your data/factory reset, including davlik cache
6.mount your sd to your computer so you can place the Rom you want on your phone's sd
7. In recovery choose zip from sdcard to install.
8. It should install, if it gives you problems try another rom, I had problems with rAv 1.2.2, keep restarting every minute. I used "NS-2.3.4-GRJ22-Stock-Deodexed-signed.zip" and it worked.
9. Restart the phone and be patient the phone will start up and you should be set.
Hope this helps someone!

Rooting Info

hi guys i still lots of info about rooting.
i have the galaxy tab 7.0 plus p6200
it has the wifey and 3g( can send sms directly w/o the need of internet )

I used this method ,Put the installation zip file on your tablet's external SD card. If you don't have an external SD card, CWM zip file, download here: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?do5jkna3dpas1tq ...Installing from factory (3e) recovery:
Use the volume up/down buttons to move the highlight up and down, and the power button to select the highlighted option.
1. Select "apply update from external storage"
2. Select the file you placed on your storage card (starts with "p6210_CWMR".)
3. Sit back and watch it run. Read the information that is being sent to the screen. If there's an error, it'll display some message. If it works, it'll display a message starting with the word "Done!"
4. Select "reboot system now."
You now have a CWM-based recovery installed, and your tablet is rooted.

What is the Recovery Android?
The recovery is no more than a text mode that is loaded during the startup phase in place of the operating system itself. A recovery allows to perform certain operations at a low level otherwise not possible during normal operation of the system.
The recovery is in all Android devices, although the basic version. To activate it you must use a well defined sequence of commands.
In the case of Samsung Galaxy series you can access the recovery mode by holding down both by phone off the VOLUME UP +POWER BUTTON....... What is the Recovery Android?
With the recovery you can perform certain operations.
The most important is to restore the factory settings, especially useful when you are not able to access the phone features due to various system errors or corruption of important files.
Other operations in the recovery of basic cleaning &of the cache (though already included within the factory reset) and the installation of "files signed" by Samsung.......... What are the custom recovery ?
A recovery base is very limited, because of that have been created by independent developers of recovery can change the commands to extend the basic versions come with Android.
The most common functions offered by the modified recovery are different.
The main one is undoubtedly the ability to install files "unsigned" (eg zip install from sdcard), then that can be created by anyone.
This is precisely the case of the cooked roms that are prepared in the form of packets. Zip.
Another function is that of widespread nandroid backup, that is a complete image of all partitions on the phone. ...there are no problem for bricked to device, your rom is great, with this procedure I have had no problems..........

[Newbie] Complete Guide to for Rooting & Install a Custom Rom [Updated 9 Sep 2013]

[Newbie] Complete Guide to for Rooting & Install a Custom Rom [Updated 9 Sep 2013]
This is aimed at new "rooters". The process is incredibly easy.
I also take no responsibility if you mess up somehow, and this is for GSM Hero's NOT Sprint Hero CDMA users.
Original Thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253
I have now also included a link to z4root as an alternative.
Here is a link to my backup guide but please be aware that most of it requires root access.
Prelude:
Install HTC Sync from here
Download Universal Androot
Download z4root
Download Root Checker - only if you need to
Download AmonRA Recovery v1.7.0.1.img - easier if you rename this "recovery.img" when it is on your sdcard
Place both downloaded files on your SD Card
Root & Recovery
1. Download and install Astro File Manager from the Market (or use any other file management program of your choice)
2. Open Astro and find and install Universal Androot (or if that doesn't work try z4root) from your sdcard:
Select UniversalAndroot.apk > Open App Manager > Install > Settings> [tick] Unknown Sources > OK > Back > Select UniversalAndroot.apk > Open App Manager > Install > Install > Open
3. In the app and choose the correct version from the dropdown box:
Superuser for Android 2.0~2.2 - if you have updated your phone recently
Superuser for Android 1.5~1.6 - if you have refused updates recently or your country/provider hasn't released one yet
Then choose: "Root "
Wait until it says "Woot ! Your device is rooted !" and exit the program.
4. Download and install Android Terminal Emulator from the Market (use Better Terminal instead if this one doesn't work)
5. Run "Terminal Emulator". Type (press and hold menu to get the keyboard up) in the following:
su (press enter and wait for the "Super User Request Prompt". Choose "Allow" and make sure its ticked to Allow every time.)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img (press enter - make sure this is typed exactly as seen)
N.B. If you have issues here, see * notes below for more assistance
6. Turn off your phone and press Home + Power to start it up again. This should boot into recovery mode.
Install Your Custom Rom
Note: This part of the guide can be repeated with as many different rom's as you like. You do not have to repeat the previous section once you have a recovery image installed.
1. Download a Custom ROM from here to your computer.
2. Make sure your phone is in recovery mode (Home + Power)
Plug your phone into your computer and select "USB-MS toggle" in recovery
Place the Custom ROM on your SD card in the main directory and press Home when it has finished copying over
3. Select Backup/Restore > Nand backup > confirm with Home > Wait
(or Nand + Ext if you have A2SD setup)
4. Press back then select Wipe from the main menu, then select:
Wipe data/factory reset > Home
Wipe cache > Home
Wipe Dalvik-cache > Home
Wipe SD:ext partition > Home
Press back button
Select Flash Zip from SD Card
Select the file
Press Home to confirm
Note: Ignore any "errors", they are normal and usually mean you're not using that feature.
5. Once it is done, select Reboot and you will boot into the new Custom ROM.
Updating your Radio
Note: The radio deals with your signal levels and connectivity.
1. Download the latest radio from the following page
N.B. Radio's are not region specific! Just get the latest
2. Mount your SD Card so your computer can read it and place the downloaded file in the main directory
3. Turn off your phone and boot into the recovery screen (holding Home + Power)
4. Choose:
Flash Zip from SD Card
Pick the radio.zip file and press Home to confirm
Wait
Your phone will reboot a couple of times but when you're back on the Recovery Screen just press reboot system now and it will complete the install and put you back into your custom rom.
DO NOT PULL THE BATTERY OUT, THIS WILL BRICK YOUR HANDSET.
5. When this process has completed reboot the phone and you should have the new radio. This can be checked in Settings > About Phone

Alcatel Flash or 6042D Stock ROM, ROOTING, CWM RECOVERY

I am not a android guy but faced lot of challenge in finding the Stock ROM for Alcatel Flash or TCL 6042D or Alcatel 6042D. Found one here but having few corrupted files due to which "settings" "message" and few others didn't worked well and in fact frequent crash. Fortunately I had another 6042D to my relative and I took CWM backup of that device and would like to share with you.
Please follow the following steps and don't do otherwise, as only these settings worked for me, other settings may not work. Please Note That these steps are applicable provided that required driver for that device is installed properly.
STEP-A: Download these three files. Please add https: to all links.
1. Stock Recovery and Scatter File package.
//drive.google.com/file/d/0B-BBKAO9380FSkI0UUMxNDc4WEk/view?usp=sharing
2. SP Flash Tool Software
//drive.google.com/file/d/0B-BBKAO9380FRjV2dF81c1VLY1E/view?usp=sharing
3. CWM Backup package
//drive.google.com/file/d/0B-BBKAO9380Fb0NoWTNTLWhtQjA/view?usp=sharing
4. Extract the three files
STEP-B: Recovery Install. No root required
1. Go to sp flash tool folder and run it.
//drive.google.com/file/d/0B-BBKAO9380FMU1NUlFZQzFVNWc/view?usp=sharing
2. Then load scatter for the device from "SPtool_stock_recovery_scatter_OT6042D" folder.
//drive.google.com/file/d/0B-BBKAO9380FRFZPRElfdDAwR0E/view?usp=sharing
//drive.google.com/file/d/0B-BBKAO9380FWmhXZmlDLU5oQzQ/view?usp=sharing
3. If scatter file loaded successfully then you will see "boot" and "recovery" is marked. You must unmark or deselect the boot file. Then double click the recovery file to choose a recovery. Do not choose the recovery from "SPtool_stock_recovery_scatter_OT6042D" folder.. Choose the recovery from "\clockworkmod\backup\2015-10-16.14.26.59\recovey.img". Then press download button.
//drive.google.com/file/d/0B-BBKAO9380FUmtsMHI2WTRMakU/view?usp=sharing
//drive.google.com/file/d/0B-BBKAO9380FQzJLNjB2cDNiQ2M/view?usp=sharing
4. Connect your phone to Computer USB. Then turn the Phone completely OFF. Then after few seconds you will see the SP flash tool is working and sending file. File transfer rate and status will be shown in status bar.
5. If things are ok then you will see a Green Circle as "OK" symbol. And you are done with installing CWM recovery. Now turn the Phone ON.
STEP-C: Installing Stock ROM
1. Copy the extracted "clockworkmod" folder to the root directory of microSD card.
2. Turn OFF the Phone and wait for vibration. After vibration press "UP VOLUME + DOWN VOLUME + POWER" key same time and wait to see Alcatel logo. Release the buttons.
3. You should see the CWM recovery screen. Now follow the steps
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache
Goto Advance then wipe dalvic cache and go back
backup or restore
restore
Choose the file from "clockworkmod\backup\2015-10-16.14.26.59"
chose yes in confirmation screen
Wait to see "restore from SD card complete"
4. reboot system now. First boot will take some time . Have patience.
Links are from Google drive. Sometimes google does not allow download of zip files. Let me know if it happens.
Thanks and Jajakallahu Khairan
1$ payment error
i have flashed the image file, and the system prompts for making 1$ payment, however the system prompts an error system ui not responding, now i am unable to make payment and unable to use the phone either

Locked out after LineageOS update

Hi there,
For the second time, after an update, I can't enter in my phone. I key the pin and the phone goes back to the enter pin.
I had (for the second time) to recover from the backup.
My process to update is:
Code:
Menu Settings > System > Advanced > Updater > Install (last version)
It will reboot to TWRP automaticaly
Backup, nandroid AND directories, (many backups)
Click INSTALL then go to /data/lineageos_updates (not in sdcard)
Select the good file .zip
Wipe to install
At the end, clean the Cache/Dalvik cache
Reboot
Is it my mistake? How to fix it?
Thanks
Please don't answer here but in the other post here
Sorry for my mistake.
