[Q] New to the world of Sensation - HTC Sensation

Hi all, so I'm in the process of buying a second hand Sensation which is currently locked to Bell (Canada).
I've seen a few ways in order to sim unlock this here on XDA forum, but is there one recommended way for noobs to follow in order to unlock?
Also, I have seen there is a HTC Sensation and a HTC Sensation 4G. Is there anyway I can tell if the phone I am buying is a 4G?
Thanks in advance

Actually that is wrong. The sensation 4g picks up 4g. The normal one can't and never will, it doesn't have the extra antenna to be able to anyway. The xe and the normal sensation are the same just that the xe has red lights which are admittedly quite sexy

Yes the yahoo answers aren't really valid but honstely search it up. When I went to America and I connected to the T-Mobile network why couldn't I pick up 4g in the heart of new york?
Maybe I'm wrong but I know for a fact there is an extra antenna and so what on earth could it possibly be used for?

The Sensation's 4G is HSDPA. Every Sensation is capable of that, even without the antenna.
I am actually going to use one of your sources.
So I got the case today and put it on. To my surprise, everything seems to work. I het the normal 4G HSDPA signal and data speeds for my area, and Bluetooth and WiFi work just fine with identical levels to the 4G case.

And what did you get? H?
It only shows the 4G icon on a non-T-Mobile Sensation if you change the icon from H to 4G.

3g.

Hello
Follow this guide to s-off and root! This is what I used and it worked perfectly..I skipped the part about the Supercid as I will not be flashing NON-TMOUSA ROMS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
It appears complicated but in all actuality it is fairly easy.

Lucky guy. Also happy to see T-Mobile actively supports the development community which leads me to believe that they won't block the S-OFF roll out from HTC.

Dunno. Coming from my n1 running cm7 I don't miss it. Apps like feedr go poof, weak camera, poor corporate network support. All things that just work on the sensation stock rom. With the exception of nandroid there's not
A thing I need root for. On the n1 I needed it to work around all the limitations of the various roms out there, not the case with the sensation.

4G

I have read other threads about other roms and some ppl say that specific roms can deactivate 4g.How exactly do u know if it does.I know it seems like a dumb question but I am very new to 4g and have never used it before and I talked to my friend and he said that "there are dead spots" but it seems that every where is a deadspot so I'm not really sure
Ps..I'm using the RCMix 3D ROM

am yeah i believe so it does deactivate your 4g
Why does this happen.does tmobile or something know I rooted or what?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
No, Flashing a WWE ROM will not deactivate your "4G." You may notice an H icon instead of t-mobiles 4G icon. Its the same thing and your speeds should be the same as well.
lol. theres is no way to deactivate your 4g it is in your sim card meaning the service you sign up for, the only way to deactivate your 4g is to get rid of the phone or call you provider and ask fo a regular edge or 3g plan also just go into settings and turn your network to all edge but you have a 4g phone i dont even think its possibile to get a plan from tmobile without it being a 4g plan
uncheck mobile network from the pull down tab quick settings
Okay well thanks for your help guys I really appreciate it

HTC Sensation Beats Audio Black Battery Cover

Hi - anyone bought one of these, I know there is a White cover thread, but anyone bought the black one with beats audio?
Does it fit the original HTC Sensation? Anyone have pics they can share?

That's for the Sensation XE. Would it even fit/be compatible?
It will work with the regular Sensation, but not the Sensation 4G

The Sensation 4G has an extra antenna in it to be able to use 4G. (Meaning there's an extra connector on the inside of the battery cover)
The Sensation & Sensation XE are both 3G only phones.

but the sensation "4g" is really just 3g, its HSPA+. I thought I read somewhere that the missing antenna has no effect whatsoever on reception/data.

Nope.
It's 3G like the regular Sensation.
It will fit on a Sensation 4G but like i said, one of the antennas won't connect to it like the rest.
I've seen a few people say that it doesn't make much difference, but others have said it means that you hardly get any signal. Have a look at some threads that talk about both phones and make a decision based on what you read.
I've had that beats cover on my phone for the last few weeks. I have a TMobile Sensation 4G. It works just fine with it
Any pictures of the black beats cover?

Link for purchase?
Just to confirm, I currently own a Sensation XE and am on T Mobile USA. My son has a Sensation 4g. While true, the Sensation 4g case does have an extra connector in its back plate, I have swapped the back plates and was able to connect to T Mobile's network instantaneously with both.
I wouldn't worry about if I were you.
Ask yourself this..Is it really worth spending $30 on a back cover? I mean if your back cover is missing, then yeah its worth it. Otherwise not so much.
Although it does look pretty cool
haha, i have to agree, my back cover is chipped so bought a replacement on ebay for 13.99, just plain black.
now if the beats logo one was around $15 shipped, i would buy it but not for these $25-$30+ range

Hello everyone

Just switched to my millionth android phone, coming from a t989, picked up a sensation. Looking to eventually root and find a clean stable ROM. Looking forward to some suggestions, maybe tips and tricks.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk 2
Hi and welcome! You can take a look at Sensation general forums and they have the rooting guides there. Also look at sensation android development and the roms Are there. Before anything you need to know your h boot version in order to find the guide that is correct for you. In order to find that you pull out your battery, then place it back in and press your volume down and power button at the same time. A screen will come up with your information. On top will be your h boot version. Write it down. Then you can find the correct rooting guide for your boot version.l read through the guide a few times. I suggest to even print the guide out so you can refer to EVERY step with ease . I did this and trust me it helps a lot because you can't miss a single step. Before you begin familiarize yourself with the guide. It's worth the effort in the end. Before you know it you will be S-off and rooted . I do suggest you also S-off because you will have more freedom later and be able to flash a lot easier. This is my opinion. I'm S-off. S off is like security off . Since your rooting you might as well soff also. The guide will tell you how. I hope these tips help you out. And I want to say again welcome. Best wishes!

Thanks for all that awesome information, I'm very familiar with routing and s-off and all that. To be honest,I underestimated this phone. I have never seen so much development for a phone and I'm kinda overwhelmed with all the roms, as to which are popular and stable and the latest.

I've got to say, I had 3 Amazes, this is my first sensation and I like it so much better, but I can't quite pinpoint why. It feels great in the hands, I love the groove asking the glass, and the thin-ness of it. I know speed for disc the amaze is suppose to be better, but this phone is real nice.
One thing I notice, it seems a little longer, yet a little more narrow as far as the screen goes? Maybe it's just me, coming from a 4.52 inch screen
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk 2
Just checked my hboot version, it's 1.27.0000 so I'm going to start looking into the easiest way to perm root my sensation and see which ROM is best. Viper seems like the most popular.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk 2
You're right, viper is the most popular, but that's probably because team venom does so much work with sense and they have devs for a lot of HTC devices so they get things done and put a ton of features, by the way, be careful on juopunut bear. I know you've had the amaze and you've probably already done it, read everything very carefully because you do not want your new phone to be bricked
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk 2
For ICS ROMs I'd have to say ARHD is by far the fastest and smoothest. Cm9 wasn't bad but I still find it laggy and buggy even in final build. I won't mention jellybean because you said you wanted something stable and I take that as no betas . Good luck and just remember that if you get s-off and super cid you will save yourself a lot of trouble with incompatibility issues.
Sent from my Sensation 4G Bruces CMX jellybean ROM using XDA Premium
REMEMBER TO HIT THANKS IF I HELPED YOU IN ANY WAY, IT'S POLITE AND APPRECIATED.
If you to try a sense rom really close to vanilla ICS I would go with virtual inquisition. I used it for many months, it was really good battery life was great. But development has seized for that rom.
Sent from my HTC Sensation
I hate to be that guy that asks, but is there an all in one method I could follow for hboot 1.27.000 to get s-off and root with recovery? I've been searching I'm kind of overwhelmed lol. Could someone provide a link? Thanks in advance.
