Hi all! I'm a considerable new comer to the world of Android. I bought my Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman in April this year and I have been running Gingerbread 2.3.4 build .62. I rooted it by following the steps listed out here.
Now that ICS is out I would like to give it a go. However the Update Center app on my phone says that I have the latest software and even PC Companion and SUS says the same thing (although sony says the update has been rolled out for my device's SI number). Anyways I found the ROM (ftf File) online and thought I'd do it manually via Flashtool.
On looking for a way to root it I found a tutorial by tracer123 where the polish blood project kernel has to be flashed. While trying to find out more about this kernel I learned that WiFi tether is not working and this feature is pretty important to me; the other features that don't work aren't quite as important and I don't mind not having them.
So my question is, is there another way to root android 4.0.4 on my LwW?
P.S. - I did find a tutorial similar to tracer123's (where the it's downgraded to a previous version, rooted and then uploaded) in the Sony support forum but since 4.0.4 is the first version of ICS to roll out to LwW I was stuck once more
have you try this method?

Hello friends,
I'm new to this forum and also to Android phones just have a rough idea about it. Now I've just bought a new SE LWW and upgraded to Android 4.0.4 from 2.3.4 using Sony PC Companion. But when I opened bluetooth tab for the first and tried to change the Device name I was unable because I was not able to see any tab of "Change Device Name" (I've turned ON Bluetooth), so anyone can please explain me how can I change Bluetooth Device name?
And also What are the benefits of Rooting? Should I root my phone (I've fear of Bricking)? If yes how should I root my SE LWW Android-4.0.4? Also can I unroot my phone back? How? Also please give every detail in brief! Hope so the members will help me to the extent.
Thanks,
Charizard.
Somebody please help me!:crying::crying:
Try asking Google?? Or look around forums maybe even ask somone who is in the Sony forums they more likely to know

Don't try to root if warranty matters to you. Also remember that a failed rooting effort can brick your device. Rooting benefits are:
Installing root specific apps
Installing clockwork recovery mod
Changing OS and ROM of your device.

I have lww too my friend.
For rename Bluetooth in 4.0.4 you have to go to settings and Bluetooth and touch menu ( that's a touchable button near home button in down of you phone ) and now you can see : Rename my Device ! Enjoy !
.......
But about rooting.
You must downgrade ( by flashtools ) your phone to 2.3 and root it and now again upgrade to 4.0.4 and now you can root this phone.
You can root your phone by flashtools.
Download it ( flashtools )
You can install custom rom by it....
And do very things! And enjoy...

Thanks a lot saeed74 but i think I should not root!!!
That very not true..
U will void a warranty on a sony by unlocking the bootloader..as u got to do it officially and they have the info in their server. Rooting however, would not as they won't know if u ever did it. Just flash it with stock rom before sending it.
2011 Xperia has some limitations than can only be solve by root.
1)link2sd to solve the low internet memory
2)swap, to maybe help with the low ram
3)uninstalling bloatware
4) install 2012 Xperias apps like walkman
Xtra reason
1) stop seeing advertisement
2) use vpn to safe some data quota
3)

I got a Xperia J for my son.
In first the phone was easy to use.
Now it is as slow as a phone of 4 years old.
I am looking for a rom that makes the phone faster and maby pretyer to look at.
If i am looking in the sections of the roms i don't know with one i must pick. This because i never flashed a phone before.
That means i don't know if i can go into recovery right away. Maby i must do something before i can do that??
Can someone help me by telling me how to flash my phone with a new rom and off course with rom to choose.
This because i don't know with one.Not every rom is compatible with the J.
Thanks for your time to help this beginner/noob hahahaha
1. Factory reset + clear all
2. Just do root
3. Boost my xperia + pimp my rom
Do this 3 first. If still slow, then unlock bootloader and find rom.
Sony Xperia Tipo ST21i
Can you tell me how i must do a root?
I can't find the right way.
Sorry but i am new at this.
You can use unlockroot, or ishuaji_root, or 360
shouji root. Only unlockroot is in english, the others are in chinese. You can also just search inside xda for the other method.

Before you flash a custom Rom I would like to recommend that you try this and see how it works : https://www.box.com/s/6oe7hg5yfweb642ovk86 . Just install it, place the phone on a flat and stable surface( like a table) and calibrate.
It worked like magic for me. I had serious problems with the lag and after I tried this little apk everything works flawless. I don't even recognize my J.

It's a simple touch screen calibration app.
Try it and see if it's what you are looking for.
It doesnt work a lot on my J.
So i think i must install a custom rom.
But with one is simpel to install?
I have NEVER done a root of flash a rom.
If someone can tell me or hase a howto please let me know.
Also if you know what a good working rom (without bugs) is , also let me know!
I'm also a newbie, but in Sony phones recovery does not come pre installed.you will have to install CWM for that..since xperia j is an old model, there would be many options for you...think of rooting and installing clock workmod(CWM).and from there u can do something...
Thank me if I helped you..
Guys,
This is my first post after getting a new Sony Xperia C (INDIA). Before this, i was a proud owner of a Motorola Atrix 2 !!!
I have seen many people searching (even i was one of them) for Xperia C root which is not yet available. I finally found a .exe in a chinese forum for Sony Xperia c39h and guess what i was able to root my phone in the 1st attempt.
Attaching the package, enable USB Debugging on phone, attach the phone to PC or laptop and then run the Sony Xperia C Root.exe. All the credits goes to its developer.
Enjoy Sony Xperia C users
Thanks

Thank you boss... Can you please provide the stock rom of this phone.. I want to port to Micromax a116.

Hello,
Even I agree that we need a separate Forum for Sony Xperia C now. Also even though the phone is already but it's always good to have phone rooted so that few customizations like themes, fonts, removing in-built apps can be performed
I am now looking forward to install CWM. I am trying different methods to get it to work. If anyone knows how can we get CWM installed, please post the method.
Thanks in advance:cyclops:
Thanks

Hello,
While following http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2160490 , I somehow bricked my phone. Using the MTK tool, i was putting the CWM recovery, on the PC screen it said it was successful and rebooting however the phone did not turn up even waiting for 30 minutes. So i unplugged the phone and found that it wont even turn on now. Tried everything i could but nothing happens when i push the Power On button.
Tried charging the battery, did a reset by removing the back door. It doesn't even boot to recovery of fastboot mode. Tried pushing in the boot.img and recovery.img using the fastboot but the is not getting detected.
So finally gave it to the service centre. Let's see by tomorrow evening they willl let me know if it is a Software or Hardware problem. Just hoping that
it is a hardware problem and the service centre guys doesn't come to know about the Root and the stuff i was trying ..
If it is a hardware problem, then they said they will get the phone replaced
Keeping my fingers crossed

Hi,
I just checked http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/supported-devices and as of now the phone isn't supported. I forgot about bootloader unlocking while i was trying to push the cwm recovery. Any idea if the service centre guys will come to know about this. because if they come to know about rooting and recovery stuff then they would surely charge heavy for the repairs.
Please let me know.
Thanks

I am sure.. they don't know about rooting stuff
Thank you for posting this information to root Xperia C, but I have already rooted it using 'V Root' Chinese version, which I got from Internet. Does this rooting method install the CWM ?
Some info
I own an Mtk6589 device. From my experience mediatek devices are very sensitive. Flashing a wrong recovery is enough to corrupt the baseband and you will end up having a phone with no network. Do not play with it unless you have a spflash tool flashable firmware.
I dont think there is any bootloader unlocking needed. Mtk6589 devices dont even come with fastboot mode usually. The flashing is done via VCOM mode, which you enter via pluging the phone to usb while in switch off mode.
If you have rooted, plz upload a backup. You can take full rom backup using Online Nandroid Backup Tool ( search Playstore )
Thanks !

Thanks for sharing Bro !
But I got plenty of questions..
Is it possible to modifies the themes, system ui, or the fonts after rooting it without unlocking the bootloader?
Thanks in advance !:good::laugh:
If you have rooted xperia C you can change themes, fonts, system ui and many other things using Root Explorer or similar app.I have done many changes and removed all bloat-ware.
hello, im really looking forward to have this phone
can you guys shows some benchmark, like from antutu maybe?
and what about the battery life, because xperia c is almost identical with lenovo p780 in specifications, except for the battery
thx guys
Benchmark on Antutu is above 13000 and battery life is very good BUT camera is not giving very good results as expected from Sony 8mp phone, also video playback is not very sharp even with Bravia 2 engine, and audio output volume is very low compared to other Sony phones, so decide for yourself if you want it or not.
Bad News for Xperia C users !!!
I am very sad after hearing that Bootloader on Xperia C cannot be unlocked
Now i feel why did i sell my Motorola Atrix 2 :crying:

Here is my review of the phone for the people who are considering to buy it.
Good evening, friends of mine , you know have a problem , my Sony Xperia E4G ( 2006), which had recently acquired crashed , I know, it is my fault .
I unlock the bootloader using Sony's official website, it was successful, then it using "Flashtool" I wanted to install the "CMW Recovery" from a command window (CMD), connecting in FlashBoot mode.
Something went wrong, because after that my phone did not pass the initial logo of Sony, you know that something is wrong, I'm not very experienced and know maybe I should not do it if I was not very knowledgeable, but also learn and I really can change firmware to other phones like the HTC Desire and the Sony Xperia 626s Z3 Compact.
I Download a rom by XperiFirm: "xxxxxxx-xxx.12x431x.ftf" and try to flash the phone but hangs.
And worst of all, had already tried Flashtool a newer version and flash did not help me. I hope you can help me and we can save this phone does not have much time being purchased.
PSD: I do not speak much English, I hope you can understand me and have not committed serious offenses writing.
Thank you very much my friends.
