[Q] How to make a Custom rom Pre-Rooted - Motorola Triumph

I looked and found nothing I even tryed copying other roms but nothing I added everything i thought should make the rom rooted but nothing. I have my own rom and want to make it pre rooted. its the only thing i seem to not get i have everything else going but this.

What ROM do you have? If it's from a stock base, then you could syslink the SU files or run gingerbreak and all of the files will be linked already.
If you have a CM7 based ROM, it's rooted from the source. Other GB ROMs would need someone else to chime in, but I would think gingerbread would work.

A question about ROMs in general....

I tried searching in the Captivate forums and I couldn't find anything about it. I already installed the Unleash The Beast ROM, and then a little bit afterwards, I put in the ROM with the circle battery in it, and everything from the Unleash the Beast ROM seemed to still be there afterwards.
My question now is this: would putting in another ROM undo anything else that was put into the phone?
everything you have done is not a ROM, they are a mods.
A ROM will completely reinstall the operating system of your phone.
the update.zip's you have been using arent roms, they just patch or add files into the system, so as long as your not using 2 mods/updates that change the same files then they will not replace eachother
Curious as well.
If my phone is rooted, and I want to change the rom, could I do it without restoring everything to the way i bought it? And do you recommend just going back to everything he way it was when I bought it and just doing one of these mods and patches on the forums?

stuck in a rut

So I want to do the new sw update but can't because I deleted some stock apps so the checksum wouldn't match and a hard reset won't restore them I guess so I would flash a stock rom but am I right thinking there isn't one yet? So how can I get to an original rom and then update or maybe make the new update work?
D2G stock rom
I don't know if the update will be compatible or not but from my understanding this is pretty much the stock rom that Motorola handed Verizon to put all their bloatware on then release the phone. I did load this rom on my d2g and it works flawlessly. Might be worth a try, not a direct link but will get you headed in the right direction. The rom manager gives you the opportunity to load the barebones stock google rom or the Vanilla based version, it just downloads and flashes, works perfect I didn't even have to re-activate. It is already pre-rooted so maybe the update won't work but I just wanted to make you aware of it. I work at verizon and did the update to the floor model and my dad's stock d2g also and didn't notice any difference really. I think vzw is just fixing some of the bugs that they created anyway so having the stock rom may end up with the same result, a rom that functions perfectly, good luck!.......droidforums.net/forum/droid-x-roms/106629-rom-fission-2-4-droidx-vanilla-generic-android-aosp-like-fission-rom-manager.html
@evil yeah im kind of in the same boat, let me know if srensber solution works for you.
I froze a bunch of apps with Titanium Backup and renamed some stuff with Root Explorer. I recently just re-named everything i changed back to the factory stuff (bak -> apk) but it still doesnt seem to do any good.
I did create a number of back ups using Rom manager but i cant seem to find out where they are located and how to restore them. hmm. Not sure what to do.
Ah i realize what ive done wrong ... i didnt know you had to have bootstrap installed along with clockwork recoveryy in order to make a backup hmm. Going to need a rom of stock d2g lol.
clockwork recovery installs a boot hijack, which might be the culpirt

New here, E4GT Need some help

Hey guys, ok so I am coming from two HTC Heros (CMDA Sprint)
Was running cyanogenmod on both (me and the wife) loved it.
Now that I have the E4GT, I went ahead last week and used ODIN to install LoStKernel.
Now it did give me root and I have used apps like rom toolbox and setcpu.
My main problem is it seems these samsung devices are a lot trickier to tinker with.
Basically I am looking to get Clockworkmod so I can flash roms and make nandroid backups.
From what I have read, I need a kernel that supports and/or has CWM in it.
I tried flashing CWM with rom manager, and it installed - but I have no option to backup/restore I can only flash a zip or clear cache.
There are SO MANY things posted in the development section and I do not know which kernels are the latest, best etc.
I need:
a) CWM/busybox
b) overclocking support
c) FULL stock functionality (no loss of wifi or something stupid like that)
From what I am understanding the kernel is included with a rom. But I can't flash a rom without CWM. So I am rooted but stuck with stock rom and it's kernel.
Confused, lol!
Can someone point me to a proper thread to get me CWM and a well supported ROM to install? Can I get CWM working fully on the stock kernel/rom?
If someone can point me to the right direction, maybe I can find a developer to donate to lol!
No love?
At this point I'm just trying to get cwm. Seems I may have already had it just didn't know it came with lostkernel and now I botched it using rom manager.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
You can actually flash a new kernel with CWM in odin
Thats the easiest method
There are several, as for the best I dont know yet
Im still tinkering with my setup
I guess that's my main issue - I can't find one that has CWM, everything I am seeing is a ROM that needs CWM to install.
If I had CWM I'd be all set because then I can backup my setup and try new things without worry, but I don't want to use ODIN to try a kernel that CWM won't take, or isn't there, and then lose what I have ya know?
All set, seems I flashed a kernel that wasn't what it was supposed to be. I apparently flashed his earlier version (pre-LoStKernel) that did not have CWM5 it it.
Just used ODIN last night to drop in LoStKernel and kept root, but also have CWM5 now. After clearing my SD Card, made my first backup. 1.5GB, jesus! lol. Nearly my whole SD card... yes, it's from my old Hero, so, time to get a 32GB.

[Q] Planning to root and put a custom rom on a friends phone

Hi there, my friend is coming round soon and I was planning to give it a custom rom
Now, I've done this type of stuff before (on my nexus) I just want to see how you would do it for this samsung phone
Now, what recoveries can you get? I use 4EXT on mine
And, can anybody send me to a stable and up-to-date rom that can be used everyday and has nearly no issues? I need one without all the samsung stuff, just a normal default android one
And, how would I go by rooting the phone?
On mine, I used the zergrush exploit, does it work for this phone??
If you want one with everything working, then use the Froyo roms. CM7 is under development. The major bugs are bluetooth and youtube hq. Leaving that, even thats useable. It's even better than Froyo.
I suggest you to try either Kyorarom or Kyrillos v9.6. Both of them are froyo based, pre-rooted, and have other mods to make it even more faster than a stock one.
Happy flashing!

Thanks, and how do I go about flashing the rom, would I have to root it first?
No need.
This is something to good to read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372414
BTW to root the phone use super one click root (or sth like that )
Ah, I get it now, thanks
Just one more question, does ODIN delete the phones data before installing the rom?
You have to wipe all your data after flashing(or not if from Froyo to Froyo)
I mean from recovery. ODIN don't delete user data
I exactly I don't know the working of odin, but after flashing you are directly taken to the recovery and advised to wipe data and factory reset.

Cant get any ICS rom to work.

I recently got a Captivate and wanted to put Cyanogenmod on it as it's what I used on my HTC Aria before this.
So the first few times I did it I managed to delete my IMEI but I got HellyBean to run just fine, but couldn't use it due to the IMEI messup.
So I managed to get back to stock and set about trying it again, but it seems like what ever I do I can't get anything to work properly.
So I'm starting from a Stock 2.1, the first thing I did was use the SuperOneClickRoot which worked fine.
The next part is what I think I just can't get right, installing ClockworkMod.
First I tried using this http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Captivate:_Full_Update_Guide but it didn't work, I now realize that is for 2.3, not 2.1.
So I googled around, found a CWM for 2.1, renamed it to update.zip and flashed it. That worked fine and I can use CWM from then.
After that I set about finally getting CyanogenMod on it.
I tried this guide first http://www.androidauthority.com/captivate-sgh-i897-cyanogenmod-10-jelly-bean-android-4-1-103899/ but it would just leave me stuck at the ATT screen.
I also tried HellyBean, but that has deleted my IMEI every time I've tried flashing that.
So what am I doing wrong here? What is considered the best guide to use?
This has just become so frustrating, it's so much more difficult than when I first got my Aria and flashed that to CM7, I just cant figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Then use this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350266
Make sure you download the ROM and put it on the SD card first and THEN flash the kernel because once you flash the kernel the OS won't load anymore.
Also you installed Helly Bean so you must have GB bootloaders? In any case, flash GB to ensure you have the right bootloaders. Follow the guide. Install ROM. There is a reason the guides start from 2.3, BECAUSE YOU NEED 2.3.
Right, it just makes more sense to start on GB. You need those bootloaders, plus all guides assume you have it now. And you can skip rooting.
