Is there an unrooting method for this tab. Or can you just do a factory reset. I'm forced to do this because of crippled xda apps, I plan to Unroot and see what the apps do. To see if they work properly without force closing. I guess sending a report is just some sort of placebo, it really doesn't do anything. Only sent about 30+ reports, maybe you need to send 130 plus, I don't have the time.

I don't know about unrooting, but i just installed the xda premium HD app on my stock GT2 10.1 and it runs super smooth, no force closing or any other problems for that matter.

I thank you for responding to this thread, I have a suspicion that my issue is the root that I installed, there were a lot of responses to my thread but no one would say if they had root our no root. For this reason I'm looking for a way to unroot and test my theory. Now to find the elusive unroot.
Thanks for your input.

Would you mind elaborating on the last part about the permissions? What files do you need to change permissions for? Would you use adb to do that?
Thanks,

Hey I was just browsing the market and decided to invest in Rom manager (used it religiously on my old Droid 1). Lo and behold we don't even have a cwm listed!
What needs to be done to have some of these roms I see on this board listed in that App?
Thanks and sorry for the noob question. (We need a Q and A board.)

Just install CWM for the Galaxy S i9000, works perfect.

You would want to check all 3 if it is your first flash, that way if something goes wrong you have a backup to restore, and the other two need to check because they are cache for your original rom, not the new one.
It's worth doing the backup of your stock setup.
Wiping the data isn't necessary unless you are a stickler about starting "fresh".
Dalvik cache wipe never hurts.

If you are coming from stock, you need to wipe all. It can cause issues, i have seen it. You get lots of force close, stuff that is removed from stock would still be there, which could also cause problems. Its better to do a full wipe when going from stock to a custom rom, and when switching custom roms.
I think I made a mistake, it reboot into recovery and I guess I was to wipe data and cache then reboot into cyanogen rom, but I did not wipe data and cache, Now it froze on me. What can I do, Did I just brick my phone?
I installed Xboarders stock OTA with root and superuser is there so I assume I am rooted. The first thing on my list is to get rid of FU***** car home I have no use for that thing. so how do I do it. If someone can tell me how to do it for general apps that would be great because there are a few that I dont think I want.
Charlie
get root uninstaller btw how are you an |OP| ?
OM I Dont know What is an OP?
So there is a program in the market for it okay cool. Now I noticed that Xboarder included a few things along with the rom that have to be installed seperatly and the lg camera went back to stock so All I have to do is reflash the cammera and any of those tweeks that I might want right? Can I do it all at once or do I have to reboot each time I copy a .zip from my SD card?
And the other thing is I have been using mybackup pro because you didnt need root and it worked like a charm to restore all my apps and data I got titainium pro but do I really need it I noticed that now that I have root mybackup has a few extras for root users.
That brings me to another question what is the Dalvik cache? And should it be wiped. I get the impression it is kinda like RAM is that accurate? Sorry for all the questions but this is how I learn.

Android applications are basically java apps. Google didn't want to license java from Sun (now Oracle) so they wrote their own compatible version of it in a clean room environment (no intellectual property infringements but Oracle is suing them anyway) and called it "Dalvik." The Dalvik cache is the section of memory used by Android for java processes. Yes, it should be wiped EVERY time you flash a new rom or update any system app as a root user. Not clearing the cache can result in all sorts of problems including lockups, slowdowns and unexpected reboots. Keep in mind that after clearing the Dalvik cache the phone will take about five minutes to start up the first time (will be stuck on the boot screen while it is doing this) to rebuild the Dalvik cache. After the first boot the phone will be back to its incredibly short bootup time on subsequent boots. Do yourself a favor and clear the Dalvik cache.
Well now I see why I need titaium back up I answered my own question it is la multi purpose tool more than just backup. I noticed that you can do some damage if you uninsdtall certian programs I actually read that if you uninstall systerm apps it will stop you from getting any OTA updates in the future. I dont know how true that is anyone know? For now I just froze car home with titainium.

No. Root exists within the rom; if you change to a non-rooted rom from a rooted one you will lose root. However, unless you specifically go out of your way to unroot, a rooted rom will stay rooted.
Oh, and to answer your earlier question about Rom Manager, it's a totally unnecessary tool. There is nothing it does that you can't do manually from recovery. Ignore that it even exists.

I've had problems with fix permissions in RM, too. Read somewhere in XDA that it's different in CWM than in RM. I've used a script in Rom Toolbox Pro and it shows the same type of log I see in RM, but goes faster. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't RM's fp just a script anyway?

If you've changed rom's and restored your apps from backups created while running other rom's, often that will screw everything up.
Try fresh installing all your apps from the Google Play store, or try deleting the app data and caches on whatever apps seem to be halting ROM Manager while fixing permissions.
Had the same issue of permission fix hanging forever, but Busybox install seemed to resolve it.
But my intend of fixing the permission was to get rid of the warning message that I get after a reboot:
"System UIDs Inconsistent"
This hasn't dissipated... any ideas?

You need a custom recovery to flash the files so you must unlock first. [Assuming you're on Verizon] Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mmmeff.ez.unlock and click unlock. You're now unlocked. To install a custom recovery, download GooManager or Rom Manager and allow the app to install the custom recovery of your choice (TWRP or Clockworkmod). Then you're set to install Google Wallet.

Hello all,
I have a couple questions regarding rooting my phone
i have a fully stock vrz sgs3 and the only thing ive done to it is loaded a different launcher (nova prime). i want to root my phone so that i can backup everything ive downloaded onto it (contacts, pictures, but most importantly EVERY app ive downloaded) and also slap a rom on there for some unique customizations (was thinking CM10).
I suppose my first question would be, in the process of rooting my phone, will it wipe any/all data and leave the phone like it was when i first open the box?
and if it doesn't, will i be able to backup everything with a backup app (and also which one would be highest on people's lists) before i start getting that rom on there and going nuts making my phone my own?
thank you very much for everyones time and help with this!
happy new year!
slainte!
If you use the one click root method(http://droidmodderx.com/galaxys3/?page_id=159) which by the way is way easier and faster than Odin, you won't lose any of your data, afterwards you will download Titanium backup to backup all of your apps, I'm not sure if there's another app out there but trust me this is the one EVERYONE uses and the best one. Then download EZ-recovery(from the app store) and install the custom recovery CWM using the app itself and download EZ-unlock 1.2 (http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32456-app-920-ez-unlock-14-easiest-way-to-unlock-your-bootloader/) since 1.4 is buggy, and press unlock to unlock the bootloader and then you can flash all the ROMs you want. You MUST have the bootloader unlock to flash custom ROMs/kernels and remember to always factory reset/wipe cache and dalvik and format system when flashing and don't ever flash a ROM from another carrier because it will brick your device.
Good luck.
I'm guessing you are on JB OTA right?

If so here is the only method to root it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35418324
You woo not lose your data doing it. Also, as a friendly tip download triangle away because this root method will trip your flash counter. Also, I HIGHLY recommend not downloading or following guides from other sites besides here and root, and maybe a select other few. Seen way to many bricks by following random guides.

Make sure you follow the root guide according to what software you are running. The ICS method does not work for Jellybean. Rooting will not wipe your data but flashing a ROM will. Just do a Nandroid backup in clock work mod (CWM) thats backs up your data with your ROM as well. You can download Titanium Backup to back up your apps. Sms backup will back up your txts and call logs.

Well put couldn't have said it better,
I would not jump right into an ASOP like CM10 for my first flash, you might want to start with a TouchWiz based rom like Clean rom first. AOSP roms in general take a few more steps to install and still have some occasional issues (data drops, getting stuck in roaming, and loosing IMEI (no data) any of which could lead to a day of anxiety and localized baldness (hair pulling)
I hope you know what your getting into.....You will never be satisfied with a stock rom again

Then like I said earlier, those one clicks do not work on jb. You need to follow the guide I posted. That's why it's not working.

ok i think this might be my last question P
i have gotten as far as flashing the vralec and the cwm md5's onto my phone and gotten into cwm and installed the bootloader and it went perfectly and now i just need to reboot and its asking me "rom may flash stock recovery on boot. fix?
do i select "no" or "yes, disable recovery flash"?
i would prefer not to wipe any data so im guessing i select "yes..."
thanks again
Select yes or you will have to redo everything

Question
What is the difference between using the EZ-Bootloader or using Goomanager for TWRP?
I am not a fan of using apps just for the sake of it and having 3 of the same on my phone. I have seen people use Goomanager for TWRP, EZ-Bootloader and Rom Manager. All I want is one...so is there an advantage or disadvantage to using TWRP and uninstalling EZ-Boatloader?

EZ-Recovery has the the old TWRP preloaded last I saw but can load latest on sd card and use the app to install it. Goo Manager downloads the latest TWRP directly and installs. Rom Manager is for CWM.

Mr. Robinsons Route 66 K3 version works fine also. Just unlock bootloader before recovery flash.
