[Q] One S help - HTC One S

hey guys can u please help me out...its been years I've been using the HTC Wildfire and now i seriously need to upgrade my device...so guys tell me ur overall experience about the One S ,I've seen many reviews around YouTube but they dont tell me all i need to know...so what's the sound quality ,battery life ?? mine sucked in Wildfire,I've also heard it has bugs like overheating, multitasking, micro arc oxidation failure,Wi-Fi problems..pls tell me everything as u mates know this better..I'm going for this next month!! Thanks

Coming from an HTC G2 and a Nexus One before that, I'm extremely pleased with battery life and snappiness of the processor. It's the best phone I've had to date. Haven't had any of the overheating or other problems you mention and not sure how widespread they are; it's always difficult to judge those, as it's generally only the complainers that post online.

Also coming from g2. Very solid phone. The only hurdle I'd see is the 10gb storage. But as long as are using it to hold your mp3 collection its not an issue.
Do not think I would buy anything but a HTC at this point. Have been consistently great devices.
Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2

thanks guys..now I definitely need to get me the One S btw hows the gaming ,loudspeaker (music) quality and multitasking, does it include beats headphone in it??? I've seen some online stores where beats headphones are included with the box.

The loud speaker does sound good even at max volume. The phone does not come with any earphones! I was rather shocked that didnt get even a dinky set that you would get with most phones.. esp when its branded beats.
Guess they wouldn't throw in 200 pair of dre autographed headphones, but giving you nothing?! this a marketing way to keep you from settling on the el cheap-os?
I cannot comment on the gaming as chess and scrabble are all i seem to play on phones these days.

The gaming works awesome, i downloaded Grand Theft Auto 3 and it works without a lag!

Should i, or shoul'nt i buy Sensation?

Hi all
Can someone recommend me to buy this device?!
What is the ups and downs of it?
It's kinda new here in Sweden so i want as much input as possible before i buy it.
Batterytime? Good or bad?
Is the Sense 3 well done without to many flaws? If any, which one?!
Thanks in advanced!
Is it possible to root it? If so, how?
there are quite a few threads asking all of these same questions. I love my phone.
My suggestion is to go to your nearest wireless dealer & go play with one of their phones. No one here is gonna help convince you on whether you're gonna get the phone. You're doing yourself a disservice by asking, just go play with it for 10-30 minutes & you'll know by then whether you'll want it.
also no root

You're right... just a bit excited about the specs and now i'm using a semi-sense 3 ROM on my HD2 and i'm just loving it. I have ordered the device now and i'm realy looking forward to see it in a couple of days.
I think it's better to ask owners of a device before reading test and reviews.
And i'm sorry to say but we don't have ONE single store that have this device for sale where i live, so i had to order it from a net shopping site. The same when i bought my HD2, had no chance to play with it before i bought it.
It's kinda christmas all over again when buying a new device.
About root, it must be solved soon ... RIGHT?!
Thanks for your reply
Yup, test the phone out in person. I did and the decision was easy.

I have to say this is my favorite device next to the iphone i owned.
Ups = Fastest processor in the market, 8mp Camera the best ive ever seen compared to other 8mp camera phones, HD video top notch. The phone feels very solid and a little hefty in my hand, the contours in it makes it feel very premium.
Downs= Sense 3.0 is great for about a week or so and gets rather boring with all those animations, i dont really care about them. In my Case the phone randomly restarts on occasion, and the lil LED light on the top right doesnt do too much work, the Front facing camera could have been a little better. That is all i can think of at the moment. The resolution isnt too awe striking compaired to the Retina Display of the iPhone 4. Sumer AMOLED Plus isnt too much of a big deal. Its not visible in the sun at all.
SENSE 3.0 in detail is a great OS. It is very graphically heavy which means it uses tons of resources on the dinky 558mb memory, it uses 457mb just for the OS which is rather alarming. The little features in the os makes it a winner though.
Battery life compaired to the G2x isnt too different. If it is overused it gets overheated on the bottom part of the phone which suggests that is the location of all the hardware. The Battery life in all isnt too great like a blackberry where it lasts days at a time but if you spend all day at work randomly checking messages and answering calls it will last on a good day all day, but if you are playing games and videoing for hours on end it wont last for more than half a day. If you use it on a normal basis it will last you about a whole day no questions asked.

I had a g2x and a g2. I was happy with my g2x, only had minimal screen bleeding, no reboots, starting to get decent battery life... etc.. and the G2 was my spare phone. I installed a sense 3.0 rom on that phone and fell in love with it.. after I saw how smooth it ran on that phone I HAD to have the sensation. Now mind you, I LOVE sense's eye candy but NEVER used it more than 10-15 minutes before I switched to Cyanogen Mod or another AOSP rom because of the bog. So when we can flash these suckers I will definitely try an AOSP rom on it but have to admit I'm really liking sense on this phone. Its got it's little bugs here and there but I think it just needs to be more polished. If I got to a AOSP rom I will miss the sense eye candy but I cant wait to see how this phone flies without sense on it

Whoops! Sorry about that.
I tried out two HTC Sensation mobiles and one G2X; honestly, besides the vibrant IPS screen on the G2X, the Sensation is vastly superior to the G2X.
Time will tell how the true performance of the asynchronous dual core stacks up. But, I am impressed. Impressed enough that I paid full price!
To the OP.
If you like gorgeous 4.3" qHD displays with an awesome 16:9 aspect ratio, then this is phone.
Also keep in mind the Sensation records audio in stereo. G2X and the SGS2 only record audio in mono. Pretty big deal if you plan on using the HD camcorder very much.

yea ive noticed a significant difference! i went to a concert and recorded a song usign the g2x and one using the sensation, the music was loud and the g2x muffled and distorted at the loud music. the sensations dual mic gave the sound a run for its money and only distorted on really loud parts but most of the time it held its weight in gold! I think as a multimedia device for music, movies, games, recording music movies and taking pics the sensation dominates!
Another bug just happened to me!
what happened was i took off the back and it did a soft restart, after it came back app caches from downloaded apps from the sd card ended up showing in the app drawer but quickly dissapeared after a firm system restart!

Oh nice!! I have yet to test it in a really loud environment like you did....good to hear!
I did do quite a bit of testing with the G2X and the Sensation playing back 1080p on my 7.1 surround HTPC setup....and to agree with your opinion, the Sensation was far better for recording audio, as would be expected with stereo recording vs mono.
Absolutely love this device.
Thanks all
Thanks all for your replies, i have now ordered me one
Realy hope it gets rooted in a near future!

[Q] considering buying a sensation...

Amazon UK keep reducing the price of the sensation which is good for me, but I'm also wondering why.
I've read a lot of reviews and heard a lot of negative feedback regarding wifi, call quality, camera quality, dropouts etc
but then I've seen a fair few reviews that contradict those stated above, so I'm unsure.
I had a desire, loved it but hated the lack of internal space. Got a desire Z and hate the keyboard, so i've sold one and selling the other and want to get something new - desire like, but a bit more updated.
So for those who have it, is it worth buying or waiting til the next wave of phones are released?
HTC bought 51% of the Monster / Beats company and will be incorporating that into their future products. Using a phone as an mp3 player would require me to buy a bag full of batteries, so although it would be nice to have a beats integrated phone with my headphones, it's not a must.
Aside from the Evo 3D, I can't see any new phones on their site.
1. WiFi - Whether you call it the death-grip or not, holding the phone like you would a PSP limits the reception to the wireless router. I would assume this is a hardware limitation due to the position of the antenna(s).
2. Call quality - I haven't had any problems with this. I use it equally on WiFi Calling where I don't get service and at work where I only have 2G service. I don't have dropped calls nor problems hearing/being heard.
3. Camera - I find the S4G's camera to be spectacular! Pictures come out great, videos @ 1080 are fantastic as well. I'm very pleased with the camera on this, but remember - it is still a cell phone so compared to several hundred dollar cameras, I'm sure this isn't at the top of the list.
I would recommend it. The death-grip issue does bother me when playing games online or trying to surf the web, but it has only affected WiFi and not T-Mobile's service. It's a fast phone with a great camera, plenty of memory (~550MB usable) and 1GB ROM for your apps. It also comes with an 8GB microsd card as well. You could always wait for the next batch, but by the time those come out (Fall 2011, ICS era), they'll be planning the next release during the new year.
I have a sensation. I just bought it after I got an Atrix and was left wanting something smoothing and more well put together.
A little background and why I chose the sensation:
I started my android adventure with a galaxy s. That phone in itself is good but not great. So I downloaded a rom by Designgears and it was fantastic. The phone was smooth as butter and fast. I was instantly into android. Then I won an atrix and was ecstatic. On paper it was the cleanest phone around...on paper. In reality it was fast but choppy. The phone can't even run live wall papers without reducing the frame rate to nothing. Pinch to zoom was choppy as well and so was anything to do with photos. The only time I notice the dual-core processor was with heavy html/flash websites.
Then I decided to go for something a little more refined but I feared I'd miss the power of dual-core and I think 3D is lame. I tried out LG and their offerings but I felt their UI made it feel like I was a child. The low res screens didn't help. SE is fantastic but have no real offerings in the states. Samsung's GS2 is far too expensive. The sensation fit the bill. I went to a local store and tried it out and liked it. The keyboard is too overflowed with junk and the quick settings aren't as nice as samsung (those 5 icons in the notification bar). But the phone is quick and smooth and has some nice polish to it. I got mine for US$300 on craigslist. still under warranty too.
I don't regret the purchase. The only other phones I'd consider: GS2 and Xperia Arc.
To be more specific, the phone has 2.25gb ROM, 1.25gb of which is reserved for the user.

Think you will find most Sensation users are satisfied. Unhappy customers are always more likely to make a review than happy ones also so the amount of complaints are disproportionate.
I for one do but have death grip and I have no complaints.

How is this phone?

So I'm getting a new phone. Right now I have a Cliq 2, but I'm getting a new one in the next week.
Right now I'm trying to decide between this, the G2x, or the GSII. I would say the Amaze, but I've heard bad things about it.
I'm not trying to get you guys to tell me why I should get this phone over the others, I'd just like to know what this phone is like. What are the ups? The downs? How's the phones radio? Custom ROMs? Battery life? And anything else you feel might be good to know before I make a decision.
Thanks!
Well I would scratch off the G2x right off the bat and as for the other two? There is a thread about the GS2 and the Sensation a little ways down if you want to find it.
What did you heart bad about the Amaze? I see others jumping to that from this phone.

Yeah, I've heard that it's the phone the sensation was supposed to be, but apparently it's got awful battery life and a very small development community.
Nothing to bad, but if this phone is almost exactly like the Amaze, I'd rather go with this, because it's cheaper
Honestly just go look at the amaze forum. As far as I can see it isn't even fully rooted yet. I am happy with my sensation.. yes... Will I switch to a better phone the first chance I get... Yes... The t-mobile sg2 has almost the same hardware and really we still have the best phone they offer. Is the regular sg2 more powerful.. yes, but in reality there are a lot of things better with the sensation. It's all opinion though.. is the dev dead here.. no not really. We have superior sense development continuing on a daily basis here. The aosp dev is crawling because no code release from cm7. Ics is slower to dev on this phone definitely and noone has a good reason why. Personally I am satisfied with the sensation... Am I looking for the next thing I can afford and get... Yeah I am
Edit: And o yeah just x out the G2x its in a different league now in comparison
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using xda premium
Haha yea the Amaze. Xboarder is doing a commendable job trying to keep the dev community alive over there, but TBH it looks pretty slow over there. I think it's just him, Mike, NRG and ComputerKid holding down the fort. Faux might have dabbled in an Amaze kernel, but that's more or less it. It's too bad though. Seems like pretty nice hardware. Too bad it's US exclusive (I think?) so the dev community will remain small on that side of the fence.
Anyway, to the original question. Off the top of my head:
Sensation ups:
Relatively inexpensive now
Nice screen
Good dev community, kind of slow on ROMs lately but there isn't much else to do until ICS. Our kernel devs however are still very active.
Pretty snappy once you rid yourself of the stock rom/kernel
Official ICS is coming early next year per HTC
Sensation downs:
Wifi deathgrip when holding the phone in landscape (this one really sucks)
Reports of dust getting under the screen near the volume rocker (get a case that covers the volume rocker!)
Cell antenna is integrated into the removable back cover
Terrible battery life
Terrible speaker and low volume
CM7 never made it out of alpha stage
No true AOSP ROMs available for the speed freaks
You should probably ask this same question in the SGS2 forum.
Having just bought a sensation myself, I'm a little biased. Having said that, I'd stay far away from the g2x, I researched for weeks before deciding on a sensation and there are a LOT of people with a LOT of problems with the LG phone. I personally don't like the tmo version of the GS2, too big with a low res screen. I really like my sensation so far but I've only had it a single day.
Any of these will be a major step up from the cliq2 though, so I'd say read the forums and go with the one that suits you best.
There are rumours that Telstra (Australia) might be releasing the Amaze as their flagship 4G device.
That might help dev movement a little.

my inputs on sensation:
Pros:
screen, speed, build quality, touchscreen responsiveness, Good ROM options on XDA
, excellent sound quality via headphone, nice camera (for both stills and movie)
Cons:
Bad speaker volume, Battery (Can be improved with aftermarket one like Anker), Poor cellular reception, wifi death grip
I have also used SGS2 of my friend and LG optimus one, both get more cellular signal bars than sensaion. Even my old BB curve has better reception for both cellular and wifi.
HTC Sensation 4G- price-performance ratio: Ok

That's not quite my opinion!
I'm using the Sensation since April and I'm actually satisfied by using this phone! I have installed a custom ROM with other Kernel (CM7.1 based on Bricked AOSP v1.4ondemand_p1984)without Sense and without any HTC or Provider Apps. Everything nice to use!
But!!!
It might be better in terms of so many things!!
Positive:
It have the perfect size and form for a mobile phone- nice to handle, right size of display to manage and watch movies, have a very good camera with LED spots, it's excellent to listen to music over headphones, etc.
Everything perfect, you think!?
Negative:
you have to hold it with two fingers to get no restriction by receiving mobile networks or wifi, bad battery performance with standard ROM, high heat production while charging or using internet (3g or wifi), RAM and internal memory could be some more, the overall quality of housing and little parts (the materials of Samsung phones or especially Apple iPhones looks and feels better, "more expensive")
Summarized:
nice smartphone for beginner! relatively low price! lots of ROM's!
could have!
no must have!!!
But I also think, that the other smartphone manufacturers similar problems have!
So HTC is on a good way, I think!
The amaze is a way better phone then the sensation I just changed to it from the sensation, there isn't many devs but its further then the sensation was at this same time since release the unlock of the bootloader still lets you flash whatever you want and the battery life for me is better, I'm running sense nrgz28s rom its way faster then my sensation ever was, camera is way better front and back and storage space is better, more development will come to it and since HTC will be updating to ics this will be a better phone since it has nfc support as well I'd go for the amaze its also not a us exclusive wind mobile and telus carry it too I believe outside the us. IMO the only other comparable phone is the gs2 but I can't stand lower resolution aftee qhd
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA App
I used to have the g2x but got sick of the random shut downs, tmobile replaced my g2x twice and I finally gave up on it. I have the sensation now and am pretty happy with it. The screen is a little bigger and much clearer than G2X. My only complaint is the speakerphone is very weak. Volume is too low to hear if in a crowded/loud area even on highest level. There's lots of great roms and support for this phone. I personally like hypersensation for it's minimalist feature set. Don't have any experience with the SGII but my sister has it and has been having some problems with it so it might be a few updates away from being perfect. The sensation has been out for a while now so most of the kinks have been worked out already. I get about 8 hours of pretty heavy use out of it on a single charge with an upgraded battery (more than a day with light use). I would recommend it.

But the iPhone is glass so dropping it usually means a shatter, and the GSII is plastic, along with most Samsung's, so they tend to feel cheap.

[Resolved] Need advice for a phone with VERRY good sound quality

Hello. I have a Samsung Galaxy Gio as my personal phone but i also need one phone for work number .
I can not decide on a phone: normal one or smartphone. In case i take the smarphone i will change the new one as personal phone and place Gio as work phone
What i need from the new phone in case is a normal phone is : VERRY GOOD sound quality in phone calls, decent battery, don`t need camera, GPS,wifi etc or touchscreen.
In case i buy a smartphone i would like to be better then my Galaxy Gio with better sound quality or at least equal and would be best if it had ICS, or maybe an future ICS official update, i don`t really like custom roms
My budget is ~200 euro for a smartphone and ~70 for a normal phone
I have : Nokia C1 i HATE the sound in calls too low and not clear at all , Nokia 2330c too loud and hurts on ears not clear voice , Nokia 6230i too low voice, quality is good tho but i can`t really hear ppl ( i also tryed to upgrade firmware and change headphone at a service center )
I know i ask a little much but maybe u can recomand a good phone .
Would also like to be new not second hand.
In past month i read a LOT of reviews about phones and i came to the conclusion all are bad on sound quality. Tryed Nokia Asha phones people say they are bad.
At normal phone i saw a Motorola WX306 i don`t find any reviews on sound quality tho.
And for smartphone Xperia U, Xperia Sola, Samsung Ace plus these are the phones i like but again ... not sure about sound quality since they are new phones. Xperia U and Sola are a little over my budget tho
Also looked at Htx One V people complain about muffed sound and low quality
Thank u in advance !
Can't go wrong with a Motorola, so I would suggest the DEFY PLUS for a smartphone. For a non smartphone, I believe the Sony ericsson zylo would do. Of course,a slide phone might not be convenient but then you said you don't mind. I'd test first, and visit www.gsmarena.com for scientific measurements as mine are but personal opinion.
Imetumwa kutoka Ideos kutumia XDA
It sort of depends on how you're going to be listening to it. Personally I find people who listen to their music on their speaker phone (especially in public) is very annoying, and you really won't find a phone that has decent audio quality if that's how you plan to listen. The best remedy to this is getting a good pair of head phones. The Bose earbuds are great, but they don't have a microphone
As far as call quality goes, it's kind of touch and go. A lot of poor call quality has to do with signal interference and degradation. Sprint phones have generally been used by construction workers in the past (you know the fat rubber ones). The call quality is well enough to hear over machinery and such, but they may not still be around. I have found that Motorola phones have pretty good call quality, but to be honest I haven't notice a huge difference between phones. As I said a lot of the poor call quality has to do with the signal you're receiving.
Thank u both of u for suggestions . No i will not use my phone for listening to music on loudspeaker i hate those people that do that on streets . I want good voice quality in calls not in playing music
Motorola Defy+ won`t receive ICS so i will ignore it for now, and that normal motorola phone with flip i don`t like how it looks (
Hope other suggestions will come, thank u again !
For now i got the cheapest phone Samsung E1230
It does not have a camera, a lantern, bluetooth or sdcard slot but as a phone i really like the sound quality till now deep voice and clear . Will see later what new smarphones will come to the market
U can close this. Thank u

I think most of the newer phones call quality are about the same (all things equal), but the only way for you to really know is to go down to your mobile store and call yourself with the display phones and have someone talk to you through the other end. Maybe leave your phone with a friend or wife or girlfriend and have them talk to you while you're at the store. Don't really know what else to suggest.
If you're really worried about getting ICS or not, a lot of developers are porting ICS roms from other phones to the ones that don't have it. Might consider that when making a purchase. I have an HTC HD2 which was originally a Windows Mobile phone (really bad imo) but it's a whole new phone with android ported to it, and it will take ICS (although not really zippy and smooth). This phone was released back when Eclair and Froyo were the new things.

Would you recommend ? - User experiances needed

Hey !
I currently own an HTC One mini. Im going to buy a new phone, but I cant decide between the bigger "One" and the Nexus 5..
My dad owns the bigger HTC, so I know everything about it.
So I have some questions about the N5.
Whats up with the battery..?
Everyone seems to be unhappy with the batterylifetime..
Are those speakers good ?
I know Boomsound is better, but what about the N5 ? Havent had a chance to try them out..
Any other issues that appeared often ?
It seems like a nice phone to me, and its speed is incresible..!
Would you recommend it ?

Speakers - aren't impressive at all. the One has better *quality* speakers in my opinion (not louder, but sounds better).
other issues - none actually.
I can easily recommend this device!
FYI, the HTC One speakers are pretty ordinary. They do not use the Beats/whatever technology - that's only for headphone use. I compared the speaker quality of HTC One with my Nexus 5, and it's on par.
Can't say about battery - just got the Nexus. However, in my brief time I got 2hrs+ of on screen time on 6hrs of uptime. Battery went from 65% to 20%. I did a lot of downloading of apps, brief camera use, lots of Reddit + FB + Chatting, simply turning it on because its new, etc
Speed is awesome. Not one bit of lag. Apps zoom in and out without so much of a stop. Sure it hangs here and there once in a while and the scrolling is juttery as ever, but much better than ...well, ****ing ever.
Another thing to consider for the Nexus is the pure Google experience. HTC Sense is pretty good and its quite snappy, but I still prefer the Google UI because it's a lot more user friendly, is colorful and the animations are beautiful. It's by far the best UI for Android and that's not surprising as it is built by Google themselves.

I was in between a couple different devices when looking to buy a new one... Nexus 5, LG G2, Note 3 and HTC one max. All are great devices and all have there own drawbacks. Ultimately I went with the Nexus 5 because of the quality of the N5, price, Google pushes updates and your not waiting on carrier's to release updates if they do at all. Has features like USB otg, wireless charging, NFC and so forth. The screen size is perfect for me, not to big or not to small and looks amazing.
Battery life is good... The biggest thing that kills the battery is the screen... Its awesome but the brightness set on auto or on high does kill the battery. Once I lowered the screen brightness the SOT definitely when up and uses less battery and the screen still looks great on a lower setting.
I think the speakers sound good. They are pretty loud and not much if any distortion when set at max and listening to music. You can always add sound mods like V4A as well to adjust the sound settings to you preference.
The N5 is really fast, plus its really easy to unlock the bootloader, root it and flash Mods and custom Roms. There's tons of development for it too.
Overall It's a great phone and I'm very Happy with it... I'd recommend looking through the N5 threads and researching it more and really find what it is that your looking for and what you want in a phone.
I have had my N5 for a week now, and I rooted it the first day. My battery life has been fantastic. I don't use it heavily but I do have WiFi on 24/7, and location on since a few of the aps I use need it. I have Google now turned off. I charge it over the night, and at the end if the day I have a little less that half left. The speakers are OK not great but they do the job. I have had no issues what so ever this is a great phone I would seriously recommend it to any one.

It's fantastic device for it's great price!! I would recommend it without a doubt! Long-time manufacturer support, fastest updates, big and long devs support, almost blotware-free UI (except some Google apps, like Google Games, but you can disable them in settings or if you have root you can freeze or hibernate them using Greenify/Titanium Backup). So this phone will give you a true and the smoothest Android experience you can ever have.
