[Q] Questions regarding Rogers HOX on Mobilicity and Wind - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Straight to the point!
For the past few days I had read almost hundreds and hundreds of post and threads regarding to the question. Apparently, the North American HOX from Rogers and ATT does work on Mobilicity and Wind (according to HTC). However, it's not working because Rogers and ATT locked the AWS radio only to themselves.
So, here's the question. Has anyone started to play with the radio setting just like the developers did to the ATT Galaxy Note? (trying to make my minds up recently because I want to get a new phone)

You cannot use the 1700mhz band without flashing a new radio which is not possible without S-Off and a phone with a similar SoC that has a radio that utilizes the 1700mhz band.

Well, I believe I had seen few people that "accidentally" had their devices S-OFF. So, that means the developer are working their heads to get the S-OFF for this device right now? (I assume)

Yes they are. And if this is anything like the galaxy note situation, a One S radio should work just fine.

[Q] Rooted and Unlocked HTC inspire only EDGE?

Hello everyone,
Im sure someone can confirm what i have found from searching.
That the inspire unlocked will ONLY have edge capabilities due to a hardware limitation?
Reason why I ask, is b.c i just rooted, unlocked, and im only getting Edge.
Can anyone confirm this, or push me in the right direction to making the network be like it should in 4G or H?
Thanks.
You have something wired happening as rooting/unlocking does not limit the phone to edge.
On tmobile in the US or in a country that has different 3g band than at&t.

Nope worked just fine when it was at&t at 4g and H.
I called tmobile and they have also confirmed that the phone unlocked on t-mobile will only be EDGE due to hardware issues.
Im still looking into it...
Thanks for your input.

This is the HTC inspire that was being used on USA at&t, but i unlocked it and rooted, and it works great on t-mobile, just only limited to EDGE.
Thanks.

People in this forum have been saying that the I4G and DHD have the same hardware,so this is confirmation that the date signal receiver in I4G is different than DHD and no radio, software can allow the I4G from receiving 2100 frequency?
Can someone comfirm this?

You are absolutely correct about no being able to change frequencies. If your carrier is T-Mobile, why don't you get the HTC Sensation?

3g on Att?

Can anyone confirm that this works on att network? Even on tmobiles website it says it supports the 850 band but i saw a report on engadget that they were having trouble connecting. Can anyone tell me if this phone has a locked bootloader? As of now i have an atrix but i would prefer vanilla android.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
It currently only supports ATT 2G. The hardware is capable of 3G but the bands are blocked out. There is some hope they can be enabled via a software fix, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
This is typical for carrier phones. Of course they don't want to sell a phone that works great with other carriers. The Phone supports the bands but the radio/software is blocking use (per Tmobile). It was already quoted that Tmobile will unlock the AT&T 3G once the merger goes through.
The bootloader is unlocked. We already have root and Clockwork Recovery setup on stock Android. LG has even already released the source for the kernel. CM7 is also already on the phone but not quite prime time.
Once custom roms are published, we'll be good to go. Coming from a Nexus One, I'm glad this phone is just as open.
I'm sure someone will unofficially enable the at&t 3G, just give it a little time.

Well no big deal anymore [email protected] I just cancelled my att plan and joined tmobile to get this phone

The service manual clearly states that the phone only supports WCDMA FDD1(2100) and FDD4 (1700). Theres no mention of WCDMA FDD5(850) anywhere, not even in the block diagrams of the RF circuits.

T-mobile 4g Radio

OKAY so I decided to update this thread:
There are two versions of the One X. One with aws bands and one without. I have a device without AWS (I am about 80 % sure). There are reports of people getting 4g on AWS with the Rogers Version as of now, and more testers need to check it out as it could still be possible on ATT.
This flash here theoretically could enable the One X radio to lach onto AWS (The radios here are for the One S Ville.)
http://ville.giev.de/?page_id=42
I have flashed all three, and although I did not get 4g, I got faster ping and a near immediate connection onto T-mobile. To all the people saying this will "brick" the phone, it does not and you have nothing to worry. But as always make sure to do a backup. The radio hacks for the Skyrocket/Note were also based on flashing the Galaxy S2 radio directly on top. This should work the same.
I'm interested in this as well. What does is involved and the risk? I don't have warranty on my phone, so I'm a little bit leery in being first.

if your rooted ull should be fine just make a back up of ur current set up. this is just a clockwork flash, it may not even flash, but if it does then there's a high chance of 4g.
i've done radio hacks before for the droid 3/skyrocket/note all from a similar concept. ex. flashing the t-mobile galaxy s2 radio on the note, to enable 4g.
if anyone could provide me with a better solution for an unlock i am sure i can get this to work. seems that the htc unlocker server is down right now
it's the same thing as flashing different radios via clockwork posted in the One X android dev forum
I'll give it a try, hopefully it won't mess anything up. So I just flash the radio in recovery. If no good, I just flash the correct radio again?
There is a one click no HTC Dev bootloader unlock in the Dev forum.

---------- Post added at 07:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:25 PM ----------
I flashed:
Radio from RUU_Ville_U_HTC_Europe_1.78.401.2 [Recommended] (update by rhcp)
0.16.31501S.17_2_10.23.31501S.10L
From your link. It flashed correctly. The phone on data and voice still works. I confirmed the version in Settings is not my original:
0.17.32.09.12_10.86.32.08L
I'm still on Edge, but I'm in a crappy cell area, so still not certain if radio or my area. I might give the:
Radio from Stock T-Mobile US (update by rhcp)
0.16.31501S.02_10.18.31501S.08L
Radio a try too.
good to hear no negative results got my phone unlocked so i will be testing tonight. also do u guys have the newer sims or older ones?
I have an older sim I believe. It is one that came from an activation kit I bought off ebay. I tried the T-Mobile radio and same results, still on Edge, but still could be my location.
What in gods name are you guys doing! ? Are you trying to brick your phones? It's already been confirmed that the hardware on this phone does not support the proper bands for T-Mobile 3g!

It's not just the SOC that determines hardware compatibility. There are various radio amplifiers and filters which are tuned to the specific frequencies that the phone is likely to encounter. If a phone is going to be sold in multiple markets, sometimes the hardware filters are set up for all frequencies and some are disabled via software, but often times this is not the case.
It's not impossible that a radio reflash can make it work, though highly improbable.

Interested in this. There might be better luck flashing the tmo radio since I don't think any European operators use AWS bands, correct me if I'm wrong.
Can anyone explain why flashing this radio from a different device won't brick our phones?

I have a tmobile one s, but i also have the one from att and i am so interested on using this phone over tmobile 4g let me know if i can of help. I am using my micro sim that came with the one s and i am getting edge (asume its the latest from tmobbile 4g mucro sim. I am on 1.85 rooted but i did not unlock. though i am sure we can flash through CWM. any ways i am sure there is a way out to get 3g or 4g on the one x on tmobile did not find the way yet.
flashed both of the t-mobile modems no luck for me either, although my ping is significantly higher and connects to t-mobile a LOT quicker.
does anyone know how to edit the LTE settings. it is odd but for most ATT LTE phones they have the 1700mhz frequency i think it would be a matter of just defaulting that....
the radios also show up in my baseband so i have successful flashes
EDIT: one more thing, before i was not able to use data at all considering i had the newer t-mobile sims but now data works but on edge speed.

it's just a file in your system. it could potentially brick your phone but you can always get into recovery and restore. which is why i stated you should create a back up of your device before trying it out.
however, i was fairly certain it wouldn't do that because the internals of the One S/One X are nearly identical, they both share the same processor and most likely similar (if not same, radios).
either way, the the radios work, getting me higher ping, and working data without having to switch out my sim for an older one, hope there is a way to activate the 1700 band !

EDIT 2: apparently there are two models of the ATT One X/XL one with the 1700 band and one without

Likely the software has been changed to support T-Mobile, but the hardware (filters, amplifiers, etc) are non-existent, so you'll never get actual 1700 MHz AWS support.
Of course, this is just a 50,000 foot view perspective without actually trying it myself.

you might be right about this one but there are certain One X/XL's that do have the 1700 band found out through some searching and trying to figure out the reason behind it.
If that's correct.... the people with the 1700 band would have 4g when they flash this radio! also use *#*#4636#*#* to change network type to lte/gsm
--- for other phones though like the Skyrocket/Note they were directly compatible with T-mobile radios.
Okay, I flashed the Tmo One S radio and did not receive a brick. What I did receive is a not-so-good connection that will switch between HSPA+ and 3G quite often.
I don't have a WIND sim to test with, but I tried running AT commands on my phone and they don't seem to be working. I tried doing a network scan with AT+COPS=? waited forever and had nothing displayed.
Strange...

Rebooted and ran the commands again. Still don't see any AWS carriers.

Don't you need a wind sim to connect im pretty sure the Canadian version will work on aws
Confirmed on my end that even with the T-Mobile radio, I'm not getting HSPA+. Even when I drove by the Moscone center where 1900Mhz was refarmed during Apple's WWDC (maybe it was just that day?). I was hoping this would be like the Note and Rocket where I can flash different radios.
Any other new phone capable of this? The S III? If not, I may have to either wait for 1900MHz refarm or switch to Straight Talk.

I'm not exactly sure of this one.
If someone is willing to let me cut up their WIND sim (or lend me their WIND microsim), I'll re-flash the tmo radio and meet you somewhere to test it (Toronto, please).

-----edit-----
Just popped in an old WIND sim that I used to test AWS connectivity at first. Saw WIND Away with the standard radio, and after flashing the Tmo radio I see WIND Away and AT&T (AT+COPS=? shows Rogers, ATT, Telus, Bell).
I live by the lake, that would explain why ATT shows up.

[Q] How do I know if my phone can get 4G

It's probably a silly question but I don't know how to check. I bought an HTC One X off ebay, it' s brand new and unlocked (but I can tell it used to be on orange.). I'm currently on O2 but thinking about switching so I can get 4G but I won't bother if my phone can't get it. So how do I know if it can use the 4G network?
Thanks in advance.
Assume you are talking LTE (although the official definition of "4G" was revised to include evolved forms of HSPA).
For LTE compatibility, you have to find the specs for the exact model of One X you have (which may get confusing) and find out what band/frequency of LTE the phone is compatible with. Don't confuse this with the GSM or HSPA bands, you've got to look for the LTE band.
Then you need to find the LTE band/frequency used by your carrier. If the LTE frequencies are the same (phone is compatible with your carrier's LTE network) and the phone is unlocked, it should work.
Keep in mind that frequency/band support is most usually set in hardware. So the phone has to be equipped (in hardware) with the correct band. No amount of radio flashing will change the LTE band.
Thanks for your help. So how do I find out the exact model of my phone?

And therein lies the challenge. Matching your phone to a model number or accurate specs is not an easy thing. Telling us what carrier version or country would be a good start.
Also, be sure to hit the "thanks" button for any of my posts that you find helpful.
Thanks! I'm on O2 pay as you go but I bought the phone unlocked from eBay, it was previously on the orange network. I'm in the UK and I'm pretty sure the phone is a UK model.
I can't find the thanks button on this app but ill be sure to press it when I check in on my laptop

[Q] AT&T to VZW

First of all, sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum or if it has been asked somewhere already, but I was not able to find it anywhere though Google and searching through this site.
Anyways, I was wondering if it is possible to fully and effectively unlock a AT&T S3 to use on the VZW network. I know vzw has a secured cdma network that only allows approved devices but with all the great devs out there, is there some wah to do it? Thanks for any input !
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I don't think you can do that as Verizon uses different lte bands and two its cdma network even tho it uses a sim! I could be wrong but I know it can only work the other way round but thats only on 3G tho
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I have the same problem except the other way around...I want to convert a Verizon one to att. I already flashed a AT&T rom and have working voice and data, but only 2g which is so slow, I don't even remember how I lived with it. I'm thinking of just buying a motherboard from the att one and sticking it in my Verizon one. Does anyone know if the motherboard has the part I need for the radios, or is the radio separate?
Sounds easier to try to do a trade on Craigslist or something.

I've also running on EDGE connection, which is horrid, but livable. Due to thaat I'm running a T-Mobile network on a Verizon S3.
