S-Voice - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Anybody interested in trying it out..
http://db.tt/sXWJVMUX

I tried yesterday for a while with no luck. I tried fixing permissions manually but always got a parsing error. I ended up giving up after a while. It may work with some effort but it was not a simple install for me.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA

Close this thread its only for ics phones thats why u get parsing error anything under 4.0 it wont work
Sent From a Galaxy S with 4G

I read tonight it only works on ics. There is a function it requires to install that is not part of GB stock based ROMs. Not sure if it will work on AOSP based ROMs or not.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using Xparent Purple Tapatalk 2

1. You need twframeworks .. obviously cause ICS AOSP doesn't support an assistant built in.
2. Two, all of the resources are dependent on new ICS frameworks.
3. It won't work on this phone no matter what we do. We don't have TW ICS.
We''ll probably get AOSP, but for this to work, we'll ned TW.
4. Jelly Bean, Android 4.1/5.0 will have it's own integrated personal assistant probably, which will be 100% better than S-Voice.
-reasons
-better hardware at the time
-better API
-android integration(you need to open your app drawer to get to S-Voice. which sucks)

Will this run for me on ics Rom ? Can I just install or no
Sent From My Rooted 3D

no
first of all, I doubt that you are using any form of a Galaxy S(IDK why you posted here)
you are probably using an Evo 3D or an Optimus 3D, and there are "no" chances unless you have touchwiz ICS, which "ONLY" galaxy S phones can have. I doubt it can be ported to other phones like Sense UI can.

in case you didnt read, i mentioned that i used to own a galaxy s 4g. i passed it on to a friend and got a nexus s. No TouchWiz, and the app worked ok after modifying the build.prop a little.
just wanted to share here because i really liked this community. I'm grateful to all the Devs that made my old 4g run flawlessly. So i thought i would share some love.. BUT i honestly had no idea it was an ICS only app... so sorry.

too bad. samsung has fix this leak so the one and only s III is only able to use it now.

Ok well for all people knocking this It's working for my on da 3d with np right now going to post a link in a few uploading now here you go

Well i got weather, texting, calling, alarm, timer, opening apps and search to work, but recording voice didn't work for me. There are still a few that i haven't tested but i think that they are fine

Yay I have siri!! I mean "Galaxy" lol. It works good but not the double tab home button, oh well its still cool to have
sent from the headquarters of the Umbrella Corporation

If using apex launcher you can set it open by double tapping the home screen.
Hit menu then apex settings, behavior settings, and Desktop double tap. Select launch app and select S-voice.

I thought the double tap thing might be launcher related. I'm going to test Stock launcher vs Nova and see if that makes a difference.
Edit: No luck. Maybe it has to do with the S-Voice version..?

I tried installing it after connecting it via USB mode but it says "there is a problem parsing the package." My Samsung Galaxy S 4G has been rooted btw.

DianXin ROM (GB 2.3.7) Download NOW!

Yea, BABY!!! DianXin rom is running so beautifully on my Evo!
This rom port was created by Octupole @ http://rom-mod.blog.163.com/ Thanks!
He has so many amazing ports, including MIUI V4 and the new MIUI 2.3.9.
Updated ROM http://www.mediafire.com/?4lgl0uapeo29avp
Enjoy!
Build.prop successfully changed! Market is fully working now. Big thanks to kushdeck. I used several lines in the build.prop from his GB rom for the fix.
How to remove Chinese carrier name:
Please download attachment, unzip it, and move the file (eri.xml) to your /data folder. Then reboot. If you want, you can edit the file and replace "Sprint" with whatever text you like.
Flash Update.zip
Reboot into recovery and wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache. Flash update.zip and reboot.

Notes
1. For some reason the lockscreen always shows "No Service". No worries, as phone and 3g data work.
2. If you use DX BatteryBooster, it will pop up a notification every time your data transmits. When this happens, click on the notification and under "Packet Data" uncheck "Notify when data transmits."
3. DX BatteryBooster has a cool feature that tells you how many minutes it will take to fully charge your phone when you plug it in.
4. Turn off auto-brightness in display settings, and use manual brightness.
5. Uncheck "Disable LED" in Display settings.
6. In DX BatteryBooster, under battery tab click on "smart" and turn on "Auto Underclocking". This will underclock your cpu when your screen is locked and preserve battery life.

The build.prop needs to be modified so that the phone is recognized as sprint evo and not china telecom evo. This affects some apps not being found in the market, for instance, google maps, as China does not allow it. I have titanium backup, so I was able to restore all apps not found in market.
I am working on modifying the build.prop right now. Stay tuned.

Thanks for the tip,im working on a port also, this could be the reason for fc's on the home screen.
You should get this moved to the Dev section and grab PSP and see how for he's gotten, too.
I think this could be the best thing to hit the Evo yet, once it's fully mod'd and stable.

[Q] 4.0+ Sucks on my G2

Ok I'm going to try to provide as much information as possible in order to help me troubleshoot this issue. My computer is running windows 7 home premium 64 bit. I've got a tmobile htc G2. I bought it used off of a friend and it was previously rooted and IIRC it had 2.3.7 gingerbread on it? not 100% sure. Since then I've updated the Clockwork to 5.0 from 3.0 and I updated the rom to an ICS 4.0.3. I tried virtuous at first and I believe now I'm using virtuous quattro RC3. I don't know If I'm still in an early version or what but I hate it. My apps (mocospace) crash constantly, even from switching from portrait to landscape, even the browser version of mocospace. I even tried downloading opera and dolphin and the same thing happens. Also with youtube, when I watch videos, they are not videos, they are more of a slideshow, I've downloaded adobe air and adobe flash but the videos are still in frames. I'm looking for one of two things, A Stable ICS that will work on my G2, or to go back to a previous version of android that will work fine like it used to. this version on this phone is driving me nuts, I constantly have to power off/on my phone to reset a Blank homescreen issue, or the icons will be blurred. thanks in Advance! - Andy

Good God, Seriously?
If it sucks so bad flash something else. Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=758 and look for something that suits your fancy. *****ing in a general discussion section without using the search options will not get you any help. I stumbled upon this post on accident and thought "Eh, why the hell not". Qualcomm chipsets like those in the Vision and Glacier and most HTC phones don't have stable ICS yet due to driver issues. READ READ READ READ then READ some more then flash. Otherwise you'll be this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwleOote5M0&list=FLiSUReotYhEITuOWRb6Hb8w&index=11&feature=plpp_video
I was actually reading up on some different roms while I was at work tonight and figured I would try out both the Andromedus, and the CyanogenMods. I Do appreciate your help though, and [email protected] the video. When I bought this phone off of a friend it was already rooted and had 2.3.7 on it I believe, I just wanted to try out android 4.0. I'm guessing though like you say its still too early to find something awesome. I don't even mind this one so much except that it seems like itcant handle any graphical apps or procedures. once again thank you

Thoughts on S Voice

There's an apk in the app section. For those have gotten it installed, how has it met your expectations? I think it sounds like a depressed Siri, especially when I check the weather.
Sent from my Samsung Infuse running AOKP.
It FCs a lot on me. I have to clear data every time just to fix the issue.
I installed it through ES file explorer. That might've been the issue as I don't know how to install it to /system/app plus adding permissions. If someone can help me do that, it would be greatly appreciated.
In any case, I have tried the S Voice and I could say that it is just Vlingo with exclusivity. It is almost on par with Apple's Siri, though.

Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket ICS Issues

Hello everyone. I have a few questions of which I'm trying to get resolved. Today I upgraded my phone to Ice Cream Sandwich and I've noticed a few issues. First, the icons on my phone such as the messaging icon, phone icon and camera icon look exactly the same as they did before I upgraded it. I've noticed from photos online that with ICS they look different. Like the phone icon is blue, and the messaging icon looks different. Is there something wrong or is it that the icons were not changed on the Galaxy S II Skyrocket? Also, when I go to the applications screen where all my applications are, it still makes you scroll to the right or left to see the different pages of apps. I thought that they changed it to where you scrolled up and down instead of left to right. My phone has also been changing my home screen wallpaper on its own. (before the update and after still) If anyone can answer my questions, I'd be deeply appreciated! Thanks again! Nicci
Note: I haven't tried official stock ics or the stock leaks. I am on Sky ICS with official rogers ics base
It doesn't sound like any real problems are occurring. Icons can be changed through replacement launchers such as Apex or Nova. I am not sure about the messaging app color. As for app drawer scrolling, this should be able to be changed in settings if u prefer vertical scrolling over horizontal. These aren't actual issues but rather preferences and things that can be changed by simply taking a stroll through settings
I have no idea about the wallpaper changing on its own

I checked the touchwiz launcher (which I had only used for 5 min after flashing sky ics) and it appears u are correct in that there isn't an option to change the layout here.
Download Apex or Nova launcher (for a more pure ics feel) and u will be able to change the app drawer to your liking. It is smoother than Touchwiz and looks much nicer as well. I prefer Apex but both are good. Give them a try and also download home switcher from the play store. This way when you select a launcher as default you won't have to clear defaults to simply load another installed launcher. The one problem is the set default within the app doesn't work to my knowledge so if u want to change your default launcher you will have to clear defaults anyway.

Your information is beyond helpful! None of this was known to me beforehand. After doing research, what I'm noticing is it seems to be that most ICS features are only on the Nexus. Such as the ability to access the camera from the lock screen, and numerous other features. A lot of the features from the ICS website simply are not on this phone. Odd.

I didn't review the ics website but camera can be accessed through lock screen through the use of an app. You can use widget locker $$ (haven't used) but have read good things) or go locker (free). I used go locker previously because I would use go launcher while on gb. Go locker requires you to have go launcher downloaded in order to use btw. Another one you could try is magic locker (also haven't used).
What are these other missing features you are referring to?

I see. I'll have to go on the website again and read it over. Thing is, why are we having to download apps for these functions to work? If it is ICS, shouldn't the features be universal on every phone, and not just one? (Such as the Nexus S)

If you are having trouble with the keyboard then go into app and clear data in android keyboard. It can be found under all apps. If this doesn't help ur messaging problem (I don't think it will) then u may want to clear data in the messaging app (as long as you are fine with loosing your mms)

Anyone using ICS still?

I'm wondering just in case GB starts to lose support from app developers. I'd like to know if ics is 100% stable at this point, and all features work. I'm all about stability and having everything work the way it was intended.
Bling is cool, as long as it doesn't introduce glitches and hitches.

Well, GB is pretty dead too, according to some here. But at least it's 100% stable. (at least the revenant rom is) But after perusing the JB threads, it would seem that there are still issues to be ironed out. It may be "good enough" for some, but good enough is not good enough for me.
I guess it looks like I'll be staying with GB for as long as possible. The only reason I upgraded to GB was because some apps no longer work on Froyo.
If you actually flash a Jb ROM I'm willing to bet you won't find something you use daily that has any issues I'm using carbon nightly and I don't have any issues....honestly GB doesn't have really any features I couldn't be on GB anymore

OK, please elaborate more. On JB, does flash work? GPS? And what go you mean GB doesn't have any features? I mean, GB works 100% as far as apps and functionality so I'm confused. It does what I ask it to. What would JB give me that GB doesn't? Are you talking about bells and whistles?

I still use GB. I would not describe myself as a heavy user though. I use the phone mostly for the call, text and camera function.
I like my gmail, calendar and contacts sync'ed.
I don't have all the fb, twitter etc
When I tested out JB, I found a few things I liked:
1. gtalk updated better.
2. gmail had other options. Scrollable widget. Calendar had scrollable widget also. Calendar has more detailed display
3. Chrome worked. Native Browser was better.
4. Google body (now defunct-ed) worked..it needed a 3.0+ platform.
5. I don't use it but others like the theme engine.
6. The weather update on the lock screen was a nice touch.
7. The quick launch from the lock screen was neat...although I don't usually use the lock screen.
8. Back up and restore apps is more comprehensive.
9. Google Now and Google Keep is neat to try.
There were others but I forget...
For my phone, I still like the simpler GB interface and the battery life (less processes running means less battery usage)
fwiw, Entropy said his cm9 was stable..and "dead" too. Supposedly he had a more updated one but never release. Supposedly, aremo/he may have a different cm10?..I'm not sure though...
My final thoughts...to each his own...find something that you like...

Thanks for the info. I don't see anything on that list that is a must have though. Hopefully, GB will be supported by app devs until next spring when my contract is up. Carry on.
yeah..nothing must have..just interesting to test.
jb may be a step up in the most updated device designed to run it with support from chip set manufacturer. (ex: gn2, sgs3, sgs4)
for the most part, i prefer a tablet or pc...my phone is mostly a phone/digital assistant...but i suspect i'm a minority here

But you can't say gb doesn't really have any features when they do have a fully working camera...just saying

But most people realize they're not going to be shooting hollywood movies with the thing. I'm not complaining though, it's good enough for what I need.
I thought ICS was the only version for the infuse with working full encryption?
I have 10GB of organized GB Roms/themes, ICS Roms/themes(lost files ), Tweaks for GB/ICS, all old recovery stuff, and 3 open source kernels Samsung had released. I have talked to 3-4 forum moderators for approval and I will be creating around 150 links for the infuse community for lost/broken links and there may/may not be broken but will all be on dev-host 4 u guys. I am hopping this will help u guys b4 I leave. I am hopping to make this post within the next week or 2 in the general section. Cheers
I am also going to be posting all the links to EVERY official post
Note* this is all I have left, I had a partition failure and I lost all I had but these files due to being on DropBox, I am still hopping to retrieve my missing files and Ken has been helping me all the way!=)
