Allright. For the last few days, i've noticed that my Sensation is producing this snap/popping sound after the display turns on. Only when the device hasn't been used for some time. I go to turn the display back on from sleep mode, and after several seconds, it will make this pop sound...
I'm assuming something to do with the capacative touchscreen...?
This is very wierd, and annoying. I'd really like for it to stop doing this.
If you have the technical know-how, open up that phone and take a good look. Clean the contacts, make sure ribbons are secure. That's never a good sign.
UPDATE: Allright, i've noticed that the sound is actually heard when the camera is activated. It sounds like the camera shutter sound. I don't think it's got anything to do with the actual screen itself, anymore. The distinct shutter "pop" is heard.
What could be the reason?
Doesn't the shutter go through a reset cycle or something? I have this happen whenever I close the camera - doesn't seem to be a big deal since it's been going on for the seven months I've owned the phone.

Go to settings/sound and uncheck screen lock sound. Might be what you are referring to.
Nope. That has been disabled the entire time.
I think it might be that STUPID weather sound. You know, the weather app that's in the main menu?
UGH.
i think it makes the sound when i cut it short. Switch to another menu. Might be the speaker popping when turning on to make the sound.
Any way i can disable this garbage. I don't want to hear it every time i turn on my phone.
Stupid weather app...
Y'know, the one that has an animation built into the calender/time?

does anyone have any static clicking noise? for example b4 some sort of sound comes on u hear a little static click from phone, or right when about to call, u click call and a clicking static noise clicks once or twice then calls? everything runs perfect, but this noise annoys me so much? is there a fix for this or do i need something?
no idea what you are talking about :/ if you add ROM, device (Fuze, sprint touch pro, Touch pro Europe, etc.) and Radio (stock or not)
I'm guessing it's a radio problem but that's just my minor educated guess. Also when does this happen? phone call, sms, before ALL sounds?
i've tried many different radios same problem, usually occurs right b4 sounds occur, say i click on a contact ill hear this static click and etc
Not sure what you're asking, so please clarify. Also this doesn't belong in the rom development forum. I'm moving to the raphael general forum.
for example, when sounds are coming out right b4 they do, a static clicking sounds comes out of speaker. for example, i press call, right b4 the call starts i hear click then it begins dialing. the voice and talking is flawless but that clicking noise is just annoying me
I get the same sound on my Fuze. it is very annoying. I hear it before most sounds and if I enable event sounds I hear it on almost every screen touch. It sounds to me like the speaker is being "powered up" in some way. I think that it is also a cause of battery drain. Since I turned off the event sounds the battery lasts much longer.
One other thing that I noticed is that back of my device near the speaker would get hot when I heard this sound a lot.
I am using NATF 2.3 ROM but it happened with 2.2 also. I have not changed the radio.
IF anyone has any advice I would appreciate it, as the first posted stated, it is annoying.

I had similar issues with my phone a while ago. I took it back to the ATT store and they said not to worry about it, unless it got worse. I've since completely reset my phone and started from scratch and it doesn't do it any more. I used to get it alot with opening and closing the keyboard, but also with screen touches too. But, knock on wood, it's not happened since I reset my phone.
yes, chris thats exactly it... let me try event sounds and see if i have same issue there.
cant remember but i dont think i had it in romeos 1.4 and difinately did not have it when i first started flashing or the stock rom that came with it... not sure if its something now in these new roms. i just dont want to flash my phone right now bc i have it set up the perfect way for me, as its fast. responsive..... but if its last resort i will go back to romeos 1.4 to experiment it out

I've been hearing this sort of noise myself, and I have the AT&T stock Rom on my Fuze. I hope it's not another bug with the phone, for I can not return mine (past 30 days & phone return limit). It's not that bad so I ignore it. I only hear it before it rings, not during my calls so it's ok.

lol its a little more complex than that.... it seems like the speaker has to turn on or sumtin, its weird. like states in a previous comment, its right b4 any sound occurs, but during calls etc it is perfect.
Yep, I had that noise on both my original and replacement Fuze's.
Sounds like GSM buzz on the speaker - like when you have your phone next to a T.V. and you get a call or text.
I had this noise on the first fuze I got, 2nd and 3rd did not have it.
It sounds to me like the sound chip is in 'deep sleep' mode, and when the wake event is triggered, some voltage is getting passed on to the speaker, hence the short 'click' noise, which only occurs at the start of audio streams (the sound chip goes back into sleep mode shortly after playing the sound, which is why you again hear a click later)
If you don't hear any clicking in a steady stream of sound (like playing an mp3) this is pretty likely to be the cause.
is there any fix for this or anything we can do to avoid the clicking? its just an annoying sound even though im starting to get sued to it still frustrating lol
Fix Please?!?1
yes i need a fix please this is annoying... i might go back to the g1 if i cant find a fix
i think i have narrowed the problem down, im going to reflash my phone and will post an update in the next 20-30 minutes
Any updates on this? I get it constantly (before calls and other alerts, just before playing a song, when playing Teeter...)
Has done it on the original 3 (au) firmware, the 2nd update of the 3 (au) firmware, Elite RC2 and ROMeOS 1.5x and 1.7x.
Never gone away
UPDATE:
if u are having this issue, please call your cell phone company, and ask for a trade... its a sign of speaker going bad... i got new one and problem is fixed.
I thought I had seen this discussed but can't find it.
When my phone rings the volume starts out low then increaes, is there a way to disable this and have it start at full volume?
I think it is melody? I believe that is the type of ring it is.
Huh?
It doesn't matter what I set the ringtone to. All the ringtones do the same thing for me

I'd be interested in a fix for this also. I've done a little searching, but haven't been able to find anything other than it being related to a bug on other phones with a "quiet ring on pick-up" (or something like that) setting, which this phone doesn't seem to have...
Basically, the phone rings quietly for about a second at first then quickly jumps to a louder volume.
Yes I have this as well. It does not serve any useful function since you couldn't possibly answer before it gets loud.
I'm new to the android OS , so I'm going slow on tweaks but I had the same problem on a previous WinMo phone , the Samsung Omnia II and it drove me crazy. Eventually someone found out all you had to do was edit the registry and change a key from initial ring volume from 3 to 5 and it worked. I wouldn't be surprised if somewhere in the captivates db's there's a equivalent setting . Hope this helps and I'll post if I find the setting.
I hate this feature as well and want to disable it.
Anything new on this? It is driving me crazy!!
It seems to be a trend with Samsung phones...
I had an Eternity and it did this, which drove me crazy.
I also had a Sync, which is a flip-phone. It did not do this if the phone was closed but if the phone was in the open position before the call came in then this would happen.
I think it may be a Samsung "feature" in order to protect your hearing or something if you had the phone close to your head and a call came in. That's all that I can think of.. It's very annoying and I don't like it at all. It really makes me think this is probably intentional considering each Samsung I've had did the exact same thing. I haven't gotten a Captivate yet but I plan to, and it's very disappointing to see that it suffers from this as well.
Has there been any fix to this yet? ?

If you have never used the phone, why do you reply?
The volume will always start low no matter what ringtone you use. It is another stupid, unchangeable setting that Captivate has (much like the separate brightness setting for browser).
HTC has the opposite and more reasonable settting: volume starts loud and becomes low when you pick up the phone. You can disable it if you don't like.
I may be the only person who likes this behavior. If I forget to put it on vibrate mode during class, and it starts to go off, I can quickly hit the volume rocker (without taking it out of my pocket) before it disturbs the class.
would be cool to have a fix for this
Well, any fix yet? It pisses me off :[
I too find this super annoying....anyone have any success in changing it so it starts off at full volume?
I see the Perception 10 has:
Modified Phone.apk (no ascending ring)
I haven't tried P10, can anyone confirm there is not ascending ring?
just bumping this up!
I have perception 10 and mine seems to still have ascending ring. Maybe there's a setting I missed but I don't think so.

It is indeed beyond annoying.
I got a LG P500 a few days ago and this ringing thing is pissing me the hell off.. any fix yet?
Hi All,
First off, I'm not bashing this device. WAY better then others I've used in the past and performance is nice and snappy! I'm really happy that the geniuses here at xdev have come up with some alternative roms to push the envelope for us and this phone. I'm running Lithium 1.2.1 and love it!
The main thing that really irks me about this phone is the complete lack of audio feedback in many areas. On my Dell Streak and Samsung Captivate, when I went into settings, sound, and checked all the boxes under Feedback, IT WORKED. When I change the settings for whatever keyboard I was using (Swype, Go Keyboard, Thumb keyboard, Swiftkey, etc) and enabled sound ON - IT WORKED. When a Bluetooth headset connected - ALL SOUNDS WENT TO THE HEADSET! Notifications, ringtones, screen clicks, screen lock sound - ALL SOUND.
NONE OF THIS WORKS ON THE ATRIX 2. The only notifications that go to the headset is the incoming call alert (but NOT the actual ringtone) - no notifications on anything else ever go out to the headset - only the phone speaker.... Playing music works great, and phone operations work great. ANYTHING ELSE JUST PLAIN DOESN'T WORK AS EXPECTED.
I've been trying to find a good notification system that can announce calls and read my incoming text messages - NONE OF THEM WORK. oh sure, I can initiate a command and the bluetooth mic works but audio feedback DOESN'T. Skyvi, EVA, AVX, Andy, you name it I've tried it. It acts like it did everything but it never makes it to the bluetooth stack. I'll unlock my screen to find one of these voice assistants sitting on a "Do you wish to reply?" after it supposedly announced my message..... I've tried stock 2.3.5, 2.3.6, and every custom rom available but NO DICE. They all act the same - it seems the entire bluetooth audio stack/stream is spotty at best. and AVRCP response is spotty as well. Sometimes I have to hit my PLAY/PAUSE button 3 times to get the sound to come out in my headset... The first push wakes up my phone (which also makes no sense) and I've found that it actually starts playing the file previously selected - BUT NO SOUND. So I have to hit PLAY/PAUSE again (this pauses the silently playing track) and then hit PLAY/PAUSE again - NOW I GET MUSIC. Pausing a playing file is the same. First tap of PLAY/PAUSE wakes up the phone, 2nd tap asserts control of the music player (in this case Google Play Music but I've tried them all) and MAYBE the 3rd tap will actually PAUSE the music! FRUSTRATING!!! Especially if you listen to audio books!!
Don't get me started on the "now it's working, now it isn't" Haptic Feedback!
<stepping off soapbox>
I know most users don't really hit the bluetooth stack hard. Anyone out there seeing the same things as I am? Everything else seems to work flawlessly.
I have the audio problem as well. My haptic feedback works fine. I get notification sounds, when my notifications (fb and twitter) want to work. Everything else is pretty decent. Weird things: if I hold the phone too tight in landscape mode, the screen won't move, at all...
Personally I hate having my phone make noise, so i turn it all off and it's not a problem.

yep, my sound profile is as follows: Ringtone-alert bright but normally only vibrate
notifications- silent
never will my phone make noise for notifications, that's important when you are in school!
My sounds are intermittent. The screen unlock sound never works. Sometimes the plugged in charger sound works, sometimes it doesn't. There is no unplug charger sound. The haptic feedback is so weak I can barely feel it. Making selections in the app drawer never makes a sound. These are all set to ON.
If this thread was intended to be a 'question' you should have posted it in the Q&A Section, otherwise you probably should edit the title of this thread...

Haven't used a Nexus in a long while so not sure if this is a stock Android thing, but it would seem daft if it isn't - my problem is this:
I want to sit in bed at night with my headphones plugged in, listening to podcasts. I *don't* want the phone to vibrate every time someone tweets me or texts me in the meanwhile. There isn't a mute feature evident within the volume settings and if I turn on Do Not Disturb I get no notifications but my sound output also completely disappears. My requirement doesn't seem too niche to me!
This seems utterly ridiculous, and someone - either Sony or Google - seems to have made volume control overly complicated for no good reason.
Can anyone help? I hope I'm just missing something, and all is forgiven if so

do nit disturb works fine for me
Thanks to @cstark27 for the Magisk Mod, and @S8rooted&tooted for troubleshooting a non-patch fix.
So there's an issue with our phones that makes the sound either sound clear, muffled (some call it bass heavy), and then it changes back and forth seemingly randomly. There are three things you can try without using the Magisk Mod, and all three seem to work with one that I personally found to work the best.
1. If you're playing YouTube videos you can pause/play the video. This seems to change the sound either way depending on how it sounds before pausing.
2. Raise volume to 100%, and then back down to where you want it. This seems to be consistent to have the sound be clear without the muffled bass sound.
3. (This is the best for me) Turn off any equalizers any apps have, and only have Google Play Music's equalizer on, and set to Normal without Bass boost or Surround sound on (as in the screenshot). There is a chance something starts the randomness again, and I found the best solution is to reboot, and then it will be good again for a good while (hence the title "Semi-Perm").
I've been using number 3 testing it in all apps I can think of that has sound/music from games to YouTube to simple apps that just make a click (even clicks can be different when the sound changes overall). I have yet to hear any sound change to muffled/bass, and even the top and bottom speakers seem even again. Pausing/playing, raising sound to 100% then back down, the sound is consistently clear.
Here's two links to the other thread with the Magisk Mod, so you can try either of these three methods, or try the Magisk Mod. Hopefully Google will sort it out when they release next months update/fixes.

PS - Another great step to take is to submit feedback through your phone if you have this issue. I've done it myself, so if Google keeps getting feedback, hopefully they will take quicker action.
I think I found the main trigger. It may be known already, but I just put the pieces together. Since if the sound gets muffled, and turning the volume to 100% then back down via the physical volume buttons, and the sound gets clear again, I decided to test how long the volume stays clear after a reboot since a reboot always seemed to produce clear sounds every time. It seems to be steady clear through all apps, videos, and sounds as long as I don't touch the physical volume buttons. The moment I change the volume via the physical buttons my sound starts acting up. Say I'm in an app, and I want to change the media volume. Well if I use the physical buttons of course the volume changes, but like I said the sound suddenly becomes unstable, and I notice the change from clear to muffled soon after, but if I use the volume sliders through the settings section I never have an issue. I did it a couple of times, and it's been very consistent, so now I just use a shortcut on my homescreen to adjust the volumes, and never touch the physical keys. For those having this issue please report back if you try these methods, so hopefully Google can patch it sooner rather than later.
https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/3551881
Found another trigger. All was fine for over a day without touching the physical volume buttons, and then I received a call. Took the call (didn't touch volume), and once the call was complete the next app I opened had he muffled sound. Same app I used tens of times since last rebooting. Rebooted again, and all is good again.
So far: Physical volume buttons, and voice calls are two triggers.

I've been keeping my eye on this thread, and came across a poster who said they "fixed" the issue by uninstalling the Phone app updates, and then reinstalling it. I've tried so many things that I almost gave up, but for three days now I haven't had the issue even after several calls. I haven't rebooted yet, so I don't know if it will stay "fixed" (I'm using quotes since I don't really know if it truly is fixed for good). The funny thing is I went to say thank you to the poster, but their post somehow is now gone. I don't know if they removed it, or a mod did, but the "fix" seems to work.

Well this worked for several day, but I was watching YouTube, and had a phone call come in, and the issue came back. Retrying the "fix" didn't seem to work again. I deleted updates from Phone and YouTube, but I still get the issue. The only reliable temp fix is to reboot, and it seems good until a call comes in. Luckily I don't have that many calls, so sometimes I can go a day or so with good sound all around.
On a positive note I tweeted at Made by Google about this, and they replied saying that's not what they want users to have, and to DM them, so hopefully it will lead to a real fix by Google.
I think the random sound change isnt a bug, its automatic presets based on what type of sound it is, like sound for phone, sound notifications, different types of music etc etc.

Right, but there is a bug because the phone will apply the Phone app sound/bass to YouTube, but if you pause/play it, or turn the volume up to 100%, and then back down, the bass goes away. I agree with having presets, but they shouldn't mix/match when they feel like.
Since Google doesn't seem to care about this phone, or this issue, or their customers who bought it, as they haven't even bothered to acknowledge that it is happening I've trying all kinds of things, and keeping track of when it happens most. The latest "fix" that seems to be consistent is keep the in-call volume at 100%. Usually I keep it one notch down, but I was on a call two days ago, and had to turn up the sound to 100%. I forgot to turn it back down after the call, but ever since I haven't had the issue where the sound randomly changes from clear to muffled/bass. I've had sever calls since, and all is still good. I know when none of the volume controls are at 100%, and you get the issue, you can "fix" it by turning the regular volume to 100%, and then back down. So my theory is since the call volume is always at 100%, it is keeping the sound switching at bay.
I still can't believe after more than six months Google treats their customers so badly after paying $1000 (I did since I pre-ordered it). "Here buy our over priced phone now that will soon be half the cost, and then don't expect fixes for issues." Thanks Google.
