[Q] how to properly update a rooted TF300T? - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello tf300t users. how did you guys properly update your rooted tf300t? did you guys even update?
the reason i ask is because i rooted my friend's tf300t but was forced to install the latest firmware and during instalation this showed up and the tf300t restarted to a message that said that the update failed but when i checked the build version it went from to .17 to .26.
i don't want the same thing happen to me. i just ordered a tf300t for myslef which should arrive in a couple of days. i'm planning on using sparky root to root and i'm gonna replace the build.prop file with seanzscreams' tweaked version.
will running voodoo ota root keeper to save root status then un rooting the tf300t to install the latest firmware to using voodoo to get back root status work?
or is it best not to update and just stay on build .17. in which case how would i make the transformer quit asking me to update?
thanks in advance!

[Q] Not getting the 3.2 FOTA

I have just received my second transformer a B70 with a dock straight out of best buy and it has 3.1 installed
My older B60 also came pre installed with 3.1 but as soon as I turned that on it told me there was a fw upgrade available and i've received 2 more since and am now running 3.2
is there some trick to this ? both are US versions btw
Can nobody answer this guys ?
I ran into a similar situation. Go to Asus` website and download the firmware update manually. Extract it, place it on the top level of your micro sd card. Reboot. The update should trigger when booting up.

Great, thanks for the advice, the update didn't trigger at boot but when I got into the OS it notified me that I had an update file ready to install and from there I could enter the FW update
That's how it happened to me, it was RIGHT after it booted up. Symantecs, while booting, right after booting... either way.

System Firmware Update notice....

Hi All,
Newbe with a Asus TF101 and I have to say it's been an adventure !
Originally I found a posting how to root my tablet and it worked great until an update notice appeared and locked up my system. After much panic stricken hunting around I found this site and was able to update the tablet to ICS 4.0.3 which is even better then before and runs great.
Now another update notice is appearing again......
[Q] How can I check that this update is ok to use or since I've installed a custom ROM I won't be able to use any of these updates from Asus ?
thanks,
Don't update if you have CWM or custom roms installed( root is fine in most cases). If you do want to update, return your tf to stock first.
Thanks for the reply.....
I was thinking that given my last update experience. Is there a way to turn off the update notices so I don't accidentally update ?
Stop DM Client running in the settings menu. That'll stop your notifications, at least until you reboot and then you'll have to stop it again. You might be able to freeze it using Titanium but I haven't tried it so I can't confirm it won't cause any problems.

[Q] ROOT / Upgrade Assistance

I've gone through the root process on a dozen phones and tablets, but this is the first time I've gone through the process on a new device (to me) so long after its release, and therefore I'm finding the information I need to be a little... hard to pin down. I'm really just trying to be extra cautious with this one since I need it next week.
What I have: Android 4.0.3 ICS, ASUS Build v9.4.3.26
What I want: Android 4.1.? JB, ASUS Build v10.4.2.?? w/ Root/Recovery/Etc
With the above outdated firmware, I'm not sure if I should upgrade to Jellybean using ASUS OTA updates and then root/flash, or if I should use an older root method and upgrade to Jellybean by flashing a custom ROM, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.
Edit: I should note that I was planning to follow this thread, but it was written under the assumption your tablet is already rooted with a custom recovery.

This is how I did it this afternoon on my new TF300T:
Rooted ICS with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704209
Installed supersu: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu
Updated su binary using supersu
Installed OTA rootkeeper: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper
Backed up su with OTA rootkeeper
Installed ES File Explorer(you really don't have to do this but I wanted to make sure some other app had root access before I upgraded to JB)
Made sure supersu authorized all these root apps by running them at least once.
Upgraded to Jelly Bean
Restored root access with OTA rootkeeper
Wiped the sweat from my brow afterwards!
I am staying with stock JB locked to keep getting OTA updates. If you want a custom rom, you need to unlock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2055886&highlight=unlock
Unlock APK is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949758
NOTE: If you upgrade to Jelly Bean without OTA rootkeeper in place, you will not be able to root it without unlocking it first. There is no root exploit yet for the TF300 Locked Jelly Bean.
Yep. This will do the trick.

Thanks badsector, I'll give it a go today and report back how it went.
Alright, thanks for the help in getting started, but I forgot to mention I had unlocked the tablet beforehand as a first step to another guide, so OTA updates were a no-go for me with this approach. What I ended up doing was, after performing 1-7 from your list, install TWRP using fastboot, manually install the JB update from ASUS, install TWRP for JB (again w/ fastboot), and then load a custom ROM. I'm all up to date and running fine, and had I intended to stay on the stock ROM I could have just left it at that when I flashed the ASUS firmware.
Thanks again!

[Q] Rooted ICS unlocked bootloader still updates?

I noticed my Tab is down loading a firmware upgrade. I don't want JB yet and I'm on ICS (.30) on my TF300. I am hoping to get NV flash access before I upgrade. I don't want to put it back on the web until I can be certain I'm not loosing my opportunity to get NV Flash.
How do I stop it?
Thanks in advance,
Feend
If your rooted, I think you can use TB or something like it to freeze the service. I see one called Update Launcher on mine that may do the trick. Or you can just ignore it. Mine has downloaded it, and been prompting me since I got it. Hasn't forced me to udate.

[Q] OTA Update failed

I received my Infinity this week, and am trying to do the OTA update to get Jellybean on it. I went into Settings....About Tablet....Check update. It did find an update earlier, downloaded, and attempted to install it. It deemed to be working because i got a message about Flash not working on Jellybean, but then it did the File Integrity check, and it told me it had failed. It then restored it back to the current version of ICS.
Since then I have tried to get it to reinstall, but every time time i check for updates, it tells me there is no update currently available for my device....does anyone know how to get this OTA update to install?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Try one of these two methods.
