[Q] programming for custom roms - General Questions and Answers

I apologize in advance, if this is posted elsewhere. As a new user, I am unable to post in the dev section. I was curious as to what the best program to edit code for custom roms would be. Also what programming language is it in?
Thank you in advance

Wanting to extract some things

I want to learn how to extract the SYS from a .nbh file. I also want to learn how to use the messaging from a stock sprint rom in the with build 21015. I really don't know much about cooking but want to learn as much as possible. Any help would be great.
Please post all you questions and requests in the Q&A section of the forum. This thread will likely be moved there. Thanks.
you should go and study these things in the XDA-Wiki and of course, go to your device's section and read some of the stickies (maybe use the search option as well) to find threads related to cooking..

[q] my homework! Please help!

Hello Guys!!
You are the best so I write here now.
I have a homework, I learn developing.
MY HOMEWORK: I have 4 .pas files of turbopascal(programming language or sth like this.xd)
I have the files but I have to compose it to android APK. it needs input but nothing else... what can I do?? PLEAS!!
Thank U! AA
You need to learn Java and figure out what the Pascal app does and convert it. You then need to learn how to configure an IDE (probably Eclipse) so that you can build Android apps with it.
There is absolutely no way on this planet that your teacher has started the whole development course with no instruction other than to take away 4 pas files and create an apk. Zero chance. You must have already learnt something if he expects you to even have the vaguest idea how to do this, so tell us what you've already learnt.
I started learning it in september. So no chans? Anything in terminal emulator? Can i emulate in it?
Your question makes no sense whatsoever.
You need to convert from Pascal to Java and compile to apk.

You should learn linux basics and if you want to develop apps, you should learn java.
I started with reading a lot and trying things out
First rooted a phone, flashed a ROM/Recovery then unpacked a rom and changed files etc. repacked it and flashed it
Step by step you get to know more and more
Sent from my BlackBerry Runtime for Android Apps using XDA App
Browse the forums, it may learn from these a lot.

[Q] the touch recovery 5.5.0.4 v4.1

Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach him to fish, feed him for a lifetime.
So I'm gonna help you the best way I can on this. First, there is a Q & A Forum, is it for stuff like this. Two, there is a thread for the recovery, answers many of your questions. Third, read the stickies in the forums. If a thread gets a sticky, it's normally a darn good sign of stuff you should read, especially in the dev forums. The stickies contain the rest of your answers and more.
Simply put, if you learn to find your answers, you will get much less flaming (which you most likely will get some for your post) and learn even more than your original question also, preventing future issues and advancing your knowledge.
flash it its awesome, very responsive!
