Read this if you want crazy loud music! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Okay so today I'm going to show you how to make your music in both your speakers, as well as your earphones really loud.
We're going to be using the app "Volume+" which is located on the marketplace for $1.99 I think. But in the applications description it says if you visit the developers website http://androidaudiohacks.com you can get it for free. But I'm going to save you the trouble and just give you the link it has on there http://dl.dropbox.com/u/56466503/Builds/VolumePlusv1.9.0.1-FREE.apk
So download that and do the following: (Lets start out with earphones)
-Click "Headset Settings"
-Check "Audio Modifications" this will turn on the Volume Boosting.
-You will then click "Volume Level" on there and select "+1" so this is where it gets tricky.
-After doing that you will need to put your volume all the way up then repeat the process,(click +2, volume all the way up, +3 etc...you can go all the way up to 20)
This only works for like Pandora and Google Music, but I got it to work on PowerAmp(My favorite music player) to do that follow this next small guide...
-Open up PowerAmp
-Press 'Menu' button
-Select 'More'
-Select 'Settings'
-Select 'AudioEngine'
-Select 'Advanced Tweaks'
-Disable Direct Volume Control
Thats it! It should now work for this also!
So yeah guys I just found this as a really nice tweak and thought I'd share with you guys, enjoy!
***ADDITIONAL DETAILS: This can/and may blow out your speakers, as said so by Kenneth.Torres: "I wouldn't suggest going about 10 for speakers, it distorts the sound. And do not go past 12 it will possibly blow up your speakers. "
---But with the earphones I have no problem at all and they sound crazy loud, and not bad at all. Using them at 20.

Shouldn't this be in the apps and themes thread.

It could, but I did it for you guys because I know it works with the Skyrocket and with the instructions I used and I don't know about the others.

I wouldn't suggest going about 10 for speakers, it distorts the sound. And do not go past 12 it will possibly blow up your speakers.

Speaker Not Loud Enough

Just wanted to check if it's just me or are there other forum members also experiencing the similar issue of speakers just not being loud enough???

Have you enabled dts feature when using the stock music player? Also it depends if the audio file volume was upped correctly when it was mixed. It plays real loud for me even when dts is not activated. Also think about ambient noise in the background when you are playing music

for me it's speaker, not speakers... I can only hear sound coming out of one speaker... I guess the other one is the mic... and yes I can barely hear mine too
Thanks Dude. Got it. It was the DTS function that was off.

I love this phone but am also having problems with it being to quiet. i saw this post about turning on dts i cant find any option for this anywhere. not in stock music player not in settings where and how do i do this. if i cant make this speaker louder i will have to return it.
Mine's running great. Speaker is quite a bit louder than my old Nexus one. Compare it to some others if you can.

So if one of the speakers not working, then is it a defective unit? Only my right one works and the left one doesn't.

HiddenMenu

For those that aren't aware, kinda cool thing I found when researching what com.lge.hiddenmenu was. From the Optimus 2x thread located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-991449.html
I'd like to stress the following that was mentioned -
Enjoy the vast amount of options and tests in there, and be careful as some are destructive.
I love the torch flashlight and dimming the capacitive buttons..
Well this one isn't so difficult but I though I'd share for those that have not worked it out yet.
The LG Device Test "HiddenMenu" is apparently on all shipping phones and it's simply disabled via removing the menu entry.
To activate you need to create a shortcut to this hidden menu. You can do this with most replacement launchers and apps like BetterCut.
Example using LauncherPro (others will use a similar method):
Long press on home screen
Select Shortcuts
Select Activities
Scroll down to and expand com.lge.hiddenmenu
Select HiddenMenu (first entry)
Enter Shortcut name
Click on shortcut to launch
Hit 'Thanks' below
Also now Logcat app:
As above
Scroll down to and expand LG Debug
Select LG Debug (first entry)
Enter Shortcut name
Click on shortcut to launch
Hit 'Thanks' below
Enjoy the vast amount of options and tests in there, and be careful as some are destructive.
Perhaps Useful:
Dim Capacitive Buttons: Device Test | Touch LED Brightness
Turn on Camera LED: Device Test | Camera Test | Torch Flashlight Preview

Np. There's a lot of stuff in there! I love reducing battery usage with the menu lights. Got it turned all the way down. Every little bit helps!
For ADW Launcher, it is as follows:
Long press on homescreen
Select "Custom shortcut"
Select "Pick your activity"
Select "Activites"
Then it's the same as the OP described above. Seems to be a bit more menu work to get to it through ADW lol

Do you know what the "destructive" menus are? There are a ton of menus/sub-folders in that hidden menu... I would hate to mess with the wrong thing.
Have any of you heard of more tech-y, back end stuff that might be worth tweaking with this? Most of the sub-folders are just acronyms that I have no clue about. It would be cool if an engineer checked it out and looked for some diamonds in the rough!
Anyone tweak with the speaker settings? My ringtones are really soft compared to my mt4g, I practically have to turn it up all the way..

volume+ seems to let you do some audio tweaking i had the same problem where my audio was all the way up and wasnt very loud i downloaded and installed Volume+ i think it is on the market not sure but this allowed me to run my volume at 1/2 up and its loud as heck

This doesn't allow me to boost past factory settings

Boosting sound with/without root. (volume+)

so i read that the volume+ app will boost sound, it does work for me with the music app but my transformer is already really loud for music.
i want to boost the volume while watching movies as i have some mkvs and avis with very low volume, and volume+ does not seem to work for that through the speakers. haven't tested the headset.
i'm currently not rooted, but if possible i'd root to do this. I just want to be able to boost the volume while watching movies and then go back to normal when i'm doing anything else.
Any ideas?

thanks for the complete lack of help.
You asked for any thoughts. I pointed out an option that you haven't mentioned yet. There's only so much you can do to force the volume to go louder from a software point of view as well as the actual speakers themselves. Thus consider a hardware option of buying external speakers which not only allows you to have louder volume depending on which speakers you buy, as well as it allows you to go back to normal by unplugging them.

Volume+ worked fine for me on the Transformer. You do have to experiment with it a bit. On mine I would start a song playing then open V+, I would set the EQ and volume then hit "enable" and listen to the difference. Some EQ settings and volume settings actually made the sound quieter. For example boosting the volume over 12 made the volume much quieter. I can't remember which EQ setting had that effect but I think in the end I used 11 for the volume (it gets pretty loud and a little distorted if you turn it up all the way after this with the rocker switch, but i figured I could keep that lower anyway) and I used "good quality" for the EQ. Yes I am rooted running prime 1.7 and clemsons version4 kernel. Not sure if you will have the exact same results but hope this helps anyway.

If you have a kernel that supports Voodoo Sound, what you can do is install the Voodoo Sound app and enable the "Don't interrupt music" setting. That setting puts your phone on silent whenever you have headphones plugged in. Super convenient

You're right. It is probably something super easy.
But, I am unemployed. I have a wife and daughter, and limited time to even look at my sgs4g.
When I do stuff, I get a bunch done in a little time frame. Probably about 5 hours a week.
The rest of the time, I'm trying to get a job, interviewing, dealing with rejection, taking my daughter to the playground, figuring out how I'm going to pay my bigger bills, etc...
You could always bone up and learn some C and go look at the wm8994 driver and libaudio in the device tree and fix it yourself. I know hampsterblade did it once, and we happily merged his change!
