I wouldn't really go blaming them right away. Did you select the factory reset option from the rom itself or from in recovery? Its never a good idea to select factory reset or upgrade from with in the rom if you are rooted. It will just mess everything up. Most sense roms you flash will have those options, just do not use them.
Always do your wiping and resets from with in recovery before flashing a new rom.
If you lost everything on your SD card and haven't done anything else to it yet, look online for some programs that will help you recovery your lost data. Sometimes they work sometimes they don't.

Most likely this happened because that ROM recognizes the sd card as an internal storage and not as an external sd card. So a factory reset would erase the internal storage. Something to remember on those phones that have 16/32GB of storage built in.

I'll try this forum, over 200 views on my other posts and no suggestions. Is the problem that obscure ? The tablet, while not worthless, is getting there as I am unable to load any of the hacks and fixes to the SD card to install. Is there a work-around the SD card so I could reinstall the g-sensor fix ?
With all the great minds on this forum, surely someone will have some insight into my problem. To start with I am running the latest Vegan release (thanks Team) and have been since 1/1. The only thing I can think of that might have caused this problem was that I foolishly removed my SD card without dismounting it and popped in a blank one to see if it was working. Since then, I am unable to mount an SD card. If just says "Unmount in Progress". When I click on unmount, it will unmount it and give me the "Mount SD card" option, when I try to mount it, it will say "preparing SD card", then go back to "Unmount in Progress". When I try to mount a new card, it says "Card blank or unsupported file system". But all the other card I have used in my Gtab give me the same Unmount in Progress issues. I reinstalled Vegan. Apps that used to work, no longer work, they just open and close (No FC message)

I'm not one of the g tablet great minds but I'll make a suggestion that always works for me.
1) Format your external SD card in a computer with Fat32. Preferably not a quick format.
2) Using Recovery wipe EVERYTHING, repartition/format the internal memory.
3) Reboot into Recovery
4) Connect to a computer, mount usb, copy your files over again.
5) Re-install the rom of your choice.
In my experience (at least on the HD2 with Android) crazy FC's and otherwise unexpected behavior from a freshly installed ROM means there are leftovers that were not removed from the previously installed rom.
IMHO the device should be completely empty of every bit of software before reinstalling.
Edit: On a side note, I have NOT been able to get an external SD card from recovery which is why I do everything through USB-Mount with the computer.
If you can mount via usb, you could put the ClockWorkMod (CWM) update.zip and recovery file and then reboot with Pwr/Vol+. That should install CWM.
Then you will be able to boot into CWM and repartition or whatever you need to do. Personally I would repatition, clean out the caches, wipe data, etc. and then start with a clean slate.

Have you tried going into settings and clicking factory reset?
You will lose your user data, but this might be enough to fix the problem. I think you have parts of two installs overlapping each other.
Also, reformatting the SD card sounds like the next step to try if factory reset does not fix the problem.
Third you could NVflash back to stock and then start over. Then do factory reset after each install.
If you have to wipe everything I would suggest formatting your internal sdcard in clockwork to 2048 and 0

If you did a factory reset and nothing happened then the reset didn't work. I would install clockwork recovery from here.

Then boot into clockwork recovery and clear data/cache. You will have to redo the market fix and install your apps. If this doesn't stop the force closes then boot into clockwork recovery and repartition your sdcard to 2048 and 0

I tried the sd card from mt Evo as well. It does the same thing. It also does not recorgnize any USB flash installed as well.
I've run out of ideas. Can anyone help?

My VEGAn 5.1.1 says same thing but I never have a problem accessing files on it (/mnt/sdcard2). Are you sure you are not confused by the fact that the internal memory is divided into 2 GB "system" and 14 GB SD1?

Be patient, it took forever to mount a thumb drive for the first time and I too had thought something was wrong. Try again after a reboot and a couple of minutes.

Thanks for trying to help. I pretty much gave up and installed TNT 5.0. I've had the thumb drive in there for 5 minutes but I'll keep it in to see if it shows up. In TNT, the SD card seems to be working/appearing fine.
I really liked Vegan, but I'll keep TNT for at least a few days to see how it does.

My unrooted g2x is stuck in a reboot loop. Before I do a hard reset (power/volume down), I would like to retrieve my photos, which are stored in the internal memory. Is there a way? [Here is what I tried so far: I tried a soft reset (battery out) with no success. I connected the g2x to my PC but it is invisible. I tried holding just the volume down key and got a "s/w upgrade, please wait while upgrading..." screen. Is there any hope to retrieve my photos? hmmmmm, this is an interesting one. the very first thing i would do is get that phone backed up. you will need to flash a custom recovery(clockwork mod) in order to make a backup. search the development section. once you have a backup on your sdcard, i'd copy it to my pc. thinking.......
from recovery, you can try "fix permissions".
reboot. if that doesn't work, go back to recovery>advanced>wipe dalvik cache. reboot. if that doesn't work, try recovery again>mounts and storage and mount everything listed. see if the drives open up under "my computer" on your pc. for me, that last option doesn't work. but it could just be my pc or my recovery version.
or, you could flash any rom you want, and then mount the phone to your pc. then try running a data recovery program on the internal sdcard.

forget the link i posted above. it seems it has trouble reading the internal sd. but i'm running get data back right now. it seems like it's working fine. if these pictures are absolutely worth saving, you might have to dish out some cash for a data recovery app. but always use a trial version first to make sure it works. and once you flash a new rom, keep the phone off until you are ready to run a recovery app. the less that gets written to the drive, the better your chances for retrieving those pics.

Actually, you are right. HR will not erase the SD content and I also think that it will leave the the internal NANDs partition intact. But I dont know where the pics in this case are stored.

Camera pics are stored under DCIM on the sdcard. Really any user created content/files (pics, music, videos, documents, etc) are on the memory card and shouldn't be touched by a hard reset. So I think youre in the clear if that's the route you go.

No, you gotta do a factory restore in the phone settings instead of using CWM full wipe cuz it doesn't really wipe your internal SD card. Also make sure to format for external SD card as well.
I would like to start over and reinstall CleanROM 4.5 on my phone, and I thought it would be good to also format the SD card while I'm at it so that everything is clean. I've got a lot of junk in there from various ROMs and would just like to start fresh. What is the best way to do this?
Should I just do "Erase phone storage" from the settings menu of the ROM? Or maybe "Factory data reset"? Or should I be doing this from TWRP? What I don't want is to end up with a brick. I need to be able to transfer the CleanROM zip back over to the phone once it erases the SD card. Whats the best way to do this?
Erase phone storage does what you want. I've had bad luck with messing with phone storage in twrp. It rendered my sd card unreadable once.

Factory Reset just resets the Os like you're starting from the scratch without touching your sd card data.
Erase phone storage wipes the data from your sd card ie. Photo's, music, and anything else you've put on there.

I did a rough search on Google and found conflicting information (some going by factory reset via Settings would remove everything, /sdcard would not be touched, and so on)
I would like to move on from using the stock ROM to trying out other flavours and based on past experiences with phones with removable SD cards, doing a factory reset will remove everything that is on internal.
