[Q] Google Wallet - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hello All!
I just bought a AT&T HTC One X a few hours ago and noticed I cannot download Google Wallet. I know the One X is NFC enabled so why can't I download it?
Thanks!

Because AT&T won't allow it, and even if you got the APK installed from another source it wouldn't work for the same reason. AT&T is partnering on a different product called Isis.

It is "not available for this device"...
ATT/HTC has disabled Google Wallet on the One X for now :-(. And as far as I know there is no way currently to enable it. NFC does work however Google Wallet does not.

Hell of this is all it is then let's hope for a bootloader unlock to flash a custom ROM. With a few tweaks to the stock ROM it can work.

I didn't want to start a new thread, so I resurrected this one.
Google Wallet was blocked on the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, but there was a simple work around. This one seems to be more difficult.
What kind of work needs to be done to get it working? For anyone who hasn't installed it on their phone, you'll get this error:
Insufficient privileges secure element privileges for this system image (release-keys).
I mean, is this something as simple to fix as flashing an AOSP ROM? It only references the system image. Does anyone know if it reads the device ID or anything?

Google Wallet compatibility

I'm rolling with a Nexus S right now, and just discovered and started using Google Wallet. I know that the One X(L) has the NFC chip, but can anyone confirm that it is compatible with Google Wallet? It's not a deal-breaker, but it is up there on my list of features that I'd rather not do without.
I thought wallet is only available on sprint/ unlocked nexus phones.
Depends on Carrier. AT&T wont allow it because its putting all of its resources into Isis.
Seems to work on the nexus s that I have on at&t, although I have not tested it by tapping the phone yet. The software installed and I was able to set it up though.
AT&T might not support it, but we will find a way to put it on

There could be so many security holes though if we went about it that way. I think in this case it'd be best to wait for whatever comes out ISIS or whatever.
I tried it on my Rogers One X and it says there's a problem with the secure element

Has anyone managed to get this working?
You get $10 for free by using it FYI.
We will get a working APK method eventually of putting it on. Verizon's Gnex wasn't allowing it either but people found a way to get it to work. Its only a matter of time IMO.

The Modaco solution is only for the international. It won't work with ATT
Honestly I'm really hating At&t for crippling this device, I really want to try google wallet, and don't want to have to resort to hacks to make it work, but I will if i get the chance
With the main thread for Google Wallet (GW) now reaching well into 200 pages it is getting to the point where it takes hrs to find out if GW will work for you.
lgkahn, daitienshi, and myself have develped a spreadsheet for tracking what works and does not. Feel free to check the list. If the rom you are running is not listed give it a try and let one of us know through a private msg, and we will add it to the list. That makes no sense, if its an at&t branded phone then its going to support what at&t allows. Just because you use another carrier doesn't mean that changes
Starting sometime soon unlocking phones for other carriers is going to become illegal so its definitely not going to be a priority

Lol makes perfect sense to me since I don't use at&t. Especially since at&t will unlock your phone with a 10 minute phone call to their customer service.
Also will us prepaid users even be able to use Isis? Probably not, so will get screwed.
How are they going to make sim unlocking illegal? Jail breaking is already perfectly legal and you can even clone your phone as long as you own both devices and pay for your service.

Google Wallet on Verizon S3

I've just spent the past couple of hours trying most of the available apks for Google Wallet. I did manage to get the 1.1r67-v12 version installed and running, however when I go to activate it tells me my hardware is not supported. Supposedly this was a known issue for G3 users on other carriers and Google released a fix for Sprint users. I have yet to find this update available in the form of an APK.
If anybody has access to a Sprint S3, could you please get me the APK?
For those interested, Google for a download link to the 1.1r67-v12 and using root explorer, copy it to both system/app and data/app and then reboot. Make sure the perms are correct (google it, rw--r--r or something similar.
My next steps are to try the build.prop trick in combination with the above apk.
If anybody else has any progress on this, please post below.
Thanks

Wait where did you get this idea? Wasn't NFC one of the key features of the Galaxy s 3? it would seem pretty silly for them to take it out. Then again they locked the boot loader =/

The Verizon page for the GS3 has S-Beam as listed. It wouldn't be listed if it didn't have NFC.
Verizon probably won't allow Google Wallet because they have a competing product, called ISIS. Bummer.
**Warning....wild speculation follows....
From what I can tell there is something missing (might be a bug) in the current version of our OS that isn't letting Google Wallet recognize the NFC device. Sprint had the same issue and apparently there was an update released OTA that fixed the issue for most everybody. If we could somehow get ahold of the before and after image and figure out exactly what was changed, we should be able to emulate they fix on the Verizon phone and get Google Wallet working.
I'm going to keep banging away at it, but there are plenty here way more experienced than I.....so here's hoping somebody else is looking at this.
ok...so the Market Enabler trick doesn't work either.
Obviously Google Wallet recognizes our NFC chip as if I turn it off Wallet will complain that it is off until I turn it on.
I've pulled down the two OTA's that Sprint has pushed out. One of which is supposed to fix the issue on Spring S3's.
Anybody know if its possible to extract the files within the updated boot.img files and apply them somehow post boot since we can't modify the current boot.img on the phone?
If anybody is a dev or knows a dev and they wouldn't mind taking a look at this thread, please let me know.

I fully agree.....however I'm sure there are plenty of people out there with the skills required to do this who aren't working on the boot loader problem.
If I knew more than I do now i'd be working on the bootloader problem myself...however my current lack of skills would only serve to impede progress so instead I'm trying to work on stuff wanted by many others.

Its definetly verizons fault. It works on all other carriers yet only verizons phone has the most problems and also their public support behind ISIS only adds fuel to the fire. I wish Verizon listened to their customers for once and stopped trying to control everything.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the new Google Wallet still uses the secure element portion of the NFC chip which we cannot use because we do not have the proper keys for this device. Without it we cannot write data to the secure element and thus can't process google wallet transactions.

That's my understanding as well. It's not just the ROM; the NFC chip has to be able to set up a secure connection to the receiver.
But AT&T is allowing it on the GNex and the SGSIII, so who knows?

So, in order to fix the "No SMX Detected" error we need to get NFC libs that have SmartMX enabled and don't break NFC.
I know wallet was working on the international One X in the Modaco forums. Does the One XL share the same NFC hardware as the One X?
I know they have different processors; but, was unsure if the NFC hardware is different too.

Yeah, I tried the libs from the international OneX last night and found that out too.
Maybe we could ask HTC if they could recompile the libs with the header turned on.
I know when i was at the Aria forum we, and other people, petitioned Qualcomm to compile their user space library for ARMv6 after they only released them compiled for ARMv7, and they actually did it was awesome! Gave us the best hardware acceleration I'd seen on that little phone. Props to Qualcomm BTW. But maybe we could see if HTC could do something similar.
NFC Secure Element
Could these patches be applied to the OneXL kernel source to enable the Secure Element and enable card emulation so wallet could work?
http://nemik.net/code/android-nfc/Nfc-app.diff
http://nemik.net/code/android-nfc/libnfc-nxp.diff
It was written for the Nexus S which uses the same nfc chip that the One XL uses, the PN544.
At the very least, maybe it could be modified to work with the HOX.
If we should petition anyone it should be att? aren't they the ones who aren't allowing it to be used on the hox? Yeah it would be sweet if you guys could get it working though.... Wait someone should start a petition especially considering I'm sure it was a way to sell more s3s well now they wanna sell hox+ so maybe they would be willing to listen

Google Wallet?

Recently I have been trying to install Google Wallet on my rooted Nexus S (CM10 - Jelly Bean) and have been having difficulty.
One the app does not show up in the android market and when I do use a link it says: "Your device isn't compatible with this version". Although I have seen people with JB using it.
When I tried to install the APK, there was not problems installing it, although when I opened it said:
"Unfortunately, Google Wallet has not been yet certified in your country or on your device/carrier."
I live in Canada and my carrier is rogers.
Is there any way I can get this work for me?
Wallet
Hello,
I think that Google Wallet needs to come preinstalled on your phone's ROM. I've never been able to get anything else work. Since it only is available on a handful of devices (Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus), I don't think you can just download it from Play Store.
But once you get it on your phone, enable NFC, and then wipe data for the app. Use TiBackup.
Use the search option. There are a number of threads in the themes and apps

Trust me I tried, the phone is missing the proper OS support with any os before 4.4. Plus the App will ONLY look at NCI. It aint happening untill google updates the chips that it supports and to be running 4.4 so the carrieries can be bypassed.
HCE support is missing from the AOSP stack for NXP NFC controllers. It only works on Broadcom (NCI) controllers. (Unless it was pushed as part of the android-4.4-r1.2 tag...)
So if you have a device with an NXP NFC controller - still no Wallet for you. If your device has the HCE permissions XML (this will only happen if someone made a mistake), Google Wallet will indicate that it's 100% ready for payment, but won't react at all to a payment terminal.
(Another option is if an OEM implements HCE for NXP chips even though it is missing from AOSP.)

I had it working way back before the wallet app was available to all phones, I updated on the assumption that the app would work without it hacked. I got the app from the s3 forum but it was taken down because the dev abandoned it and people had security concerns, all that was done was a mod that disabled the ID checker and told the app the phone was either the Galaxy nexus or the Nexus 4, not sure.
Im just looking for either a build prop edit script that also has the built in undo ability or a modified app by a reputable and trustworthy dev, maybe it was the wrong place to post in the Q&A and I should request a mod to either move to the dev area or FWD the thread link to a few developers to let them see it and have a discussion.
Im honestly NOT trying to start a argument here, I know it CAN be done and HAS before but I cant get instructions how to do it again.

If it can be done on the Razr HD then you would be the first. Many have been trying...search the forum and you will see. The build.prop hacks just dont resolve the issue...with the build.prop modifications you can install the old GW and even start the process of initializing google wallet but then it just hangs there forever. New Google Wallet will install but no tap and pay.
When Android 4.4 comes to the Razr HD then you will have host card emulation and all will be working fine with Google Wallet as it wont need the secure element.
It doesn't even work on 4.4 yet. GW doesn't support our chipset. Once they fix that then we will be good to go.

If its not rocket science how come you do not know how to do it? If its simple you would think there is no need to ask the question. Look people who have been on this form much longer than you have been trying to help you understand its more than a build.prop edit to get this to work. The support is simply not there yet. Google Wallet has also changed a lot since the ICS days. When Android 4.4 comes out for the phone from Motorola then GW will work.
I am using my Moto X daily now so I am not sure about this next statement but CyanogenMod 11 might work for you on your Droid Razr HD if you have yours unlocked. If not wait on Moto to release the 4.4 update and give GW a try then.

There will be no Tap&Pay until someone gets the NXP Controller set up for HCE.
This will require some decompiling of files that are not easy to decompile. Of course, nobody that does this is going to get paid, so, we can't exactly hire a software reverse engineer. I am going to try to get in touch with Dan Rosenberg and see what he can cook up for us. He's the most known software engineer here and responsible for our unlocked bootloaders.
If you want Tap and Pay, the best thing to do is push that Googe+ link that I posted last night (a few posts up) to any social medium you can think of and maybe it'll grab the right person's attention.
ISIS and Google Wallet have nothing to do with each other. Android 4.4+ and HCE made it independent.
What we are looking at:
Decompile NFC.apk, NFCui.apk
Decompile the CPP files in that.
Find out what is missing from AOSP
Add it to CM or make a flashable zip.
If you have any friends, family or anyone that can help out. This is the time. Because it doesn't seem like it's going to get merged into AOSP.

Tap and pay part or just wallet. They changed gw a few releases ago so you can install it and use it for everything but tap and pay.

Like I said in my previous post, I haven't tested TNP. However, the OP is talking about getting the app installed and was just stating that it was possible to install on 4.4. As for TNP, I don't really need it because I've seen very few places near me that even have POS capability for TNP.
If you want this, please go to my Google+ link and find the jira link in there and vote it up. Nothing is going to get done if we don't bring attention to it.

Or just wait a month or so for Motorola to release the 4.4 update for the HD then someone pulls it from there.
Can't. Otherwise it would have been done with the HTC one, moto x, nexus 7 and a couple others that have support with stock
Besides. Is it really that much effort to vote on a fix? One click..
