i know alot of ppl have been having alot of issues with CM9 and not being able to transfer files to their kindle fires from their PC's via usb. While i was trying to help figure out how to fix this, i found a nice work around. I found that using wifi transfers works just fine. There are a few different programs on the app market, but i found "websharing lite" to work quite well, and so far quite stable. The lite version says it has some restrictions, but the paid version is only 3 dollars and quite full of features.
The version of CM9 that im currently using is the Reloaded V1.3 by biteblaze. But i would guess the app will work with other versions of ics as well. Hope that this helps, i know that rebooting into twrp can be a pain.

Thanks for the idea. I just found and downloaded "WiFi File Transfer Pro" in the Play Store and it works phenomenally.
Is there a difference between these apps and Dropbox? They seem like the same kinda idea to me, I dunno why anyone wouldn't just use Dropbox.

Dropbox doesn't instantly access files on your sd card.
Drop box is a type of cloud storage isnt it? I can see where that would work, but it seems more like the long way around, instead of a direct route.
On a side note i would be interested to know if you could sent files from android to android using one of the many wifi trans programs. It seems like it would work as you have browsers on each device. But ive been wrong with these things b4.
I use AirDroid to transfer files back and forth along with a few other things. It's free and works great.
I was gonna say all I ever use is the LAN option in ES File Explorer--just set up a few network shares. But after looking at AirDroid, I'm amazed at all the stuff it can do. I'm still checking it out and it just keeps getting better. Why I didn't know about this app is beyond me. Thanks!
I uninstalled my drivers and then plugged my kindle back in. Since then I've had no problems with USB transferring between my kindle and PC. Running gedRom 5/13

I generally use Dropbox for file transfers. Its a bit of a roundabout way of doing things, but it has worked out fine for me so far.
I'm going to look in to AirDroid, however.
ES file explorer. You just scan for your shares then log in. After that it is just cut and paste. It stores the credentials so it is a one time setup. No software on the pc needed. My dropbox space is too precious for big Rom files.
Airdroid is focused on controlling from the pc and I prefer to do it from the tablet or phone.

That is the coolest app I ever saw!!! Thanks for telling us about it!
If you have larger files that you want to transfer, I believe it's best in ICS to boot into recovery, and mount from there. Apparently you get much faster speeds

I found an easy way to do remote desktop with the G-Tab to my PC....
Download and install an application called ShowMyPC onto your desktop computer and run it.
Download the ShowMyPC app from the Market and run it.
2 steps and your done....
Works great....
Heres site for more info...
http://www.showmypc.com/
alternatively you can install Team Viewer on your pc and then their app on your tab and you now have full access to your pc remotely. Like this the best. can login and help friends and family on their pc's too and they only need to run a temporary program with nothing to install. Also has a great web interface to access from any computer running mac, win, or linux. Switched from logmein about 6 months ago and never looked back. The app runs fairly well on the tab.

Looks about the same idea. Now we have to good ways of doing it simply.. Thanks...
I just installed the team viewer app today. Wasn't worth it on my droid-X (can't believe i'm saying this but the screen is too small on the X for it) but its one of the make or break features I needed in a tablet. Navigating takes getting used to though.
Yeah it did take a few moments to get use to how to move the mouse around and click or double click on the touch screen but once I got the hang of it it's OK...

Very cool! I've been looking for a way to not pay LogMeIn $30 for their Android App! Thanks!!! Works great!!!
The team viewer is great way better than the application I use at work (tightvnc)
I installed easyvnc on my laptops, then androidvnc from the market onto the gtab, works great! Nothing like watching what the kids are doing on the computers remotely.
Just installed team viewer on two computers and the tablet. I think it works great! Thanks for the info.

Played with that a few months back but couldn't get it to work for me on my Droid-X. Might have to give it another try on the tab. Don't like leaving things not figured out. not sure if it was an issue with the phone or the router or my install. Might give it a shot this weekend.
And another good one is

DL'd from slideme and it does the job for me.

I’ve tried some of the free options and I personally didn’t like the idea of needing software on my pc. I wanted a Real RDP client the best thing I have found that fit my needs was Pocket Cloud Pro. It’s not cheap it’s like $15 in the market but it is the most robust option by far.
Another option is WYSE PocketCloud. I use it and it seems to work fine as well. Also FREE.

Gunkle, thanks very much for a great tip! With TeamViewer I can now log into my broker's site that uses a Java app. I hadn't thought remote control would have been possible with a tablet without this thread. Thanks to all for the heads-up discussion.

LogMeIn Ignition
TeamViewer is a great tool but it is crazy expensive (Over $900). Since I need it for work I decided to use LogMeIn Ignition which is less than $40. I don't miss any features TeamViewer may have had as LogMeIn has everything I use. It's great and it's affordable. I highly recommend to folks to buy and PAY for apps rather than use free versions if you can so you can help support the developers and/or companies that will continue to make good apps for our Android OS. I felt $40 was fair and $900 was just plain crazy.

Most likely because the KF doesn't support AdHoc WiFi connections.
Like Nandorian said, use something like DropBox.
There are many other alternatives.

Yes it does, I'm using Ad-hoc wi/fi switcher and can switch back and forth between the two. I use it to connect to my HTC Hero.
Not by default it doesn't.... The OP didn't provide much info about what he has done, but a good guess is that he isn't using that and by default the KF doesn't support AdHoc WiFi connections.

Doesn't matter who's fault it is, It supports it or I wouldn't be able to switch from infrastructure mode to ad-hoc mode. Does require root to do this..

i have a KF and a galaxy s. i use dropbox too but it's not feasible for large files. i use swiftp for all my devices. really simple and easy. my galaxy is fully modded with a ROM, but i didn't want to mess with the KF too much so it's not rooted just sideloaded a few apps.
AirDroid is great for interfacing Mobile>PC>Mobile, which I tend to like for backup/checksum options. It's not a direct ICU connection, though; which sounds like what you're looking for.

It's quite close to my needs. But, as far as I undestand Airdroid work with PC, and I am looking to find a way to connect KF with phone via Wi-Fi, but don't using Internet (long flights, for example)
Anyway, thank you! Button pressed

Thank you u all
Dropbox is a good choice, but only for small size file. Because it takes a long time for large size file!
you can use app "file expert" to share between two android devices by wifi. special, if your device have wifi hotspot, you can share without data internet.
i tested by LG P500 and my KF
I use WellFTP server from the marketplace. (Called WIFI Transport on icon but WellFTP server inside the application)
I run this on the Kindle. Then from the Phone I run ESFileExplorer and ftp to it to do bidirectional transfers. As long as they are on the same network (WIFI) this will work. I have not tried this on ADHOC, since I am running a stock non-root Kindle.
Get a nexus. It supports USB hosting. Lol

Use Tonido to share files between your kindle fire and Android phone
I'm stock, so not sure if this will work on rooted?
I found online a program called "Print to Kindle". I have it installed on my computer and when you go into the "print" option on anything, one of the options is print to kindle. I hit that and the next time I turn on my Fire, it downloads into the documents and I have it.
It's pretty cool and easier than emailing it to your kindle email.
But yes, dropbox, sugarsync, or box work good too!
ok my AK Fire users I have decided to share the golden apple of knowledge... I havent seen any info on this app whilst browsing the fire threads. But I have been using it now for a couple days and I highly recommend it. Not only can I use it for at home to download/upload files to and from my Fire from my PC, but Ive also found out if that if say your mobile out and about and do lots of customization from Android to Android. I found that turning on the wifi hotspot with my G2x then running this app on the g2x that not only can I 1, get data access via the hotspot but also navigate to my phone via the ip address provided and download/upload files that way too!! And visa verse! Truly wireless and baddass! So if you don't have the wifi file explorer app then get it here! its only .99 cents and its the best money you'll spend for your Fire. And btw only for root users of course.

Yes, pretty cool, I transferred a rom from my PC in a couple seconds.
I've been using the free version and it seems to do everything I've wanted it for. It does work great.
is this better than the following apps:
1. file expert
2. es file explorer
3. swiftp
there are many kinds of wifi file sharing in the market, what do you think is the best?
i'll try this wifi file explorer
The app doesn't matter..... Its the connection you use that decides the speed...
I use wifi explorer cuz i paid for it a very long time ago. Airdroid is good too https://market.android.com/details?id=com.sand.airdroid doesnt need root.
I set up a webdav ftp on my computer to eliminate need for thirdparty etc. Dropbox is a beauty
I really like AirDroid a lot.

nice.. that works too.. I was really gearing this towards transferring stuff from my g2x to the fire and vice versa... but ftp is always good too! Also I like the wifi explorer pro or not, because you can copy the apps in the /system folder as well as anywhere else that needs root to browse..

I realize this might be more of an apple question but i feel like ive already searched to the ends of the interweb on apple forums and gotten nowhere and when i ask a question over there the only answer i seem to get is "shouldve bought an ipad"... So I'm wondering if there is a way to sync an itunes library with an android device without a computer? As far as i know, all of the common apps out there (doubletwist, airbind, etc) need to be set up on a computer first. Im trying to bypass this step with my little brothers iphone 5 and a rooted android tablet with ICS. I bouht him the tablet for xmas, but decided to give it to him early when his laptop was stolen earlier this week. He doesnt live near me or i would let him use my laptop to sync with his itunes. Is this even possible? Or will he need to find a computer? Please help!!!
There's doubleTwist player on Play Store which I've heard is pretty awesome at syncing iTunes- all for free. If you dkm't need a whole new player then there's quite a few other apps on market, not sure how reliable they are though...
Soryuu, thanks for the reply. My understanding is that you still need a mac or Windows computer to set up doubletwist I initially? Or am I wrong? Can I do this with just an iPhone and an android device??
Edit: Yeah, you need a desktop to work doubleTwist/Airsync and so on.
An iPhone and an Android device?
I don't think there's any easy solution to this except using cloud storage like Google Drive or something- which would be slow enough on its own- and even then, depending on how many songs you have it'd be a tediously slow process downloading them onto the tablet. If you are using cloud storage... I've never used iPhones so I don't know but can they make zips out of files? If you can that may make it slightly easier- zip the music up (if possible), upload to the cloud and then download it as one package.
There is this app that seems to work like NFC: http://m.wikihow.com/Use-Bump-Between-an-iPhone-and-Android
But 1.) Not sure about tablets- I assume so if its that popular of an app but there was no mention and
2.) Apparently its semi-functional according to some of the reviews I've seen.
I guess you could try it out and see what happens.
Other than that I don't think there's much else...

Is there a way to wirelessly transfer files from the S10e to other Samsung's or Androids very quickly that's baked into Android?
Ideally I don't wanna use a third party app myself and the receiver need to download and install.
This is my new work phone but my main phone is an iPhone 7 which comes with a handy utility called Airdrop built in that allows me to very quickly send files with minimal fuss.
Tried googling it but only found stuff about using wifi direct.
How do other android users do this simple task?

Doesn't seem like this is possible in Android natively, quite disappointing for a 2019 phone. Will see what apps are available.

You can try wifi direct between 2 Android phones. The setting on Samsung phones is usually located in connection settings
Google seem to be stripping back on things like this to put tasks into apps instead. That way they get updated as needed rather than rely on an OS update. We also have OTG for USB media or connect to PC and transfer files. Not sure how extensive that kind of support is with iOS. I frequently just transfer files by cable between my phones and my work PC because it's so quick and hassle free. I also use a file explorer app from Google Play which has much more functionality than the stock file explorer.
I would try wifi direct first.
Use your file explorer, choose share, select the content you want to share and then select wifi direct from the options share brings forth. Go from there.
I'll be honest, when I'm with people who have an iPhone and a task needs to be done, mostly the Android leaves the iPhone in it's dust due to the plethora of options and customisation possible. Even had this last night with a friend playing audio in the car. The iPhone had a weird issue putting out a decent bluetooth volume and kept turning back down whereas my phone just powered, loud and clear.
There will be a few cases where the iPhone has the edge though.
Does Wifi direct still require the sender receiver to enable and configure it?
I'll give it a go when transferring files. The main stuff I'm looking ti transfer are photos.
There's an option on the iPhone that reduces the bluetooth volume under accessibility. I've had that annoying issue before.
