I've owned a plethora of devices over the years, but I think the One X is definitely the first one that will still be great in 2 years. Think about it, the iPhone is constantly being replaced with another that has features exclusive to it. The One X, will probably be just as fast as the phones two years from now, and will still run like a complete champ when android 15 and sense 26 come out.
Who agrees?
Yeah man I totally agree. Every phone ive had since this one has been just me waiting to get the next phone. I think this phone will easily last me my two year contract!!
I love this phone...more so than any other phone I've had (and I've had a lot), but I know me...as soon as something else comes along with a great new "gotta have" feature, I'll be ditching this and moving on. So is the life of a phoneaholic.

Yea, for the most part, I can find some sense not to get it, but this was the phone that I had to get and now i couldn't give it up.
The last phone I've had the longest was the iPhone 4. Had it for 15 months. Never doing the Apple thing again.. *barf*

I really hope so. I'm coming from 4 years of iPhone (iPhone 3G -> iPhone 4), and so far I'm in love with this device, even with its...quirks. Especially once the bootloader is unlocked - I can see myself using this thing for quite a long time.
I went from the Nokia n72. Who remembers that one? To, original apple iPhone and at the same time the BB curve. To iPhone 3g, 3gs, 4 and 4s. Disliked the battery life. Left it for the galaxy note. Ditched the note the moment I read about the one x on engadget. Love the size camera and screen. Reminds me of my TV screens

The hardware is definitely going to last many years but i doubt i'll be able to resist sweet jelly bean. I'm going to upgrade to a HTC nexus device if it ever comes on AT&T.
If HTC made another sexy phone but with a 2500+ mAH battery I could see myself jumping
Def worth 2 years.

Love this phone but if Google gets serious about devices on the play store I'm not going to touch another carrier locked device again. When I think about this phone with aosp on it I swoon.

i would've kept my Inspire longer but i bought it mid-contract and by the time my contract was up this phone was out
i can see myself using this phone for a while. especially once i am able to root it (if possible )

Well, if you really in love with one X designed, you need to be more patient. Sooner or later the bootloader will be cracked. Otherwise, go for GS3 and start flashing by next month

I moved from an iPhone 4s to this phone. Out of the box with no mods it's streets ahead of the 4s. Thing will only get better with time. I'm in for the long haul. I predict that only even number Galaxy releases will be worth a crap anyhow. Galaxy S Captivate= bad
SGS II was great.
SGS III designed by lawyers. No thanks
Not having the ability to command the phone via Bluetooth has me seriously considering returning it. Once I got my Android tablet my iPhone 4 was barely used for anything but music and phone calls but at least I could dial out without looking at the phone, an important feature for me since it's illegal here to operate a cell phone while driving a vehicle without using a hands free device.

The ONE thing that may cause me to take this phone back is the completely crippled multitasking. I'm tempted to keep it for the hardware, but it's virtually useless when I can't even multitask between two apps without the state being saved.
I did use siri a lot in the car, and I think the 4s takes better pictures. But the screen on the one x is a lot better for my old eyes. The SG3 with the voice app, removable battery and SD card storage along with the whole ATT not letting HTC unlock the boot loader makes me want to return and switch. I have also read that the SC3 will get updates a lot faster than HTC and that Samsung is a lot easier to root/flash
Agree, coming from the iPhone 4 the additional screen real estate is fantastic. I loathe itunes and many things Apple does differently so I seriously don't want to go back but commuting without voice command is going to be painful.

Don't be on samsung pushing fast updated. I had the galaxy2 and it took forever to get updates from sammy. Also their hardware was always an issue. Poor gps, poor radios etc. I might return my OneX due to the multi tasking issue but I would not got the III.
The wifi, push email, multitasking, and app association (youtube and market links open up in browser, not the app) issues all bother me greatly. I'm planning to install the 1.82 RUU update and see if it fixes at least wifi and push email. If it fixes both of those, I will probably keep it and just deal with the multitasking and app association stuff. But right now I'm definitely planning to return if wifi and push email aren't fixed soon.

I bought an iphone 4s in the beginning of March, took it back in less than 3 weeks. Maybe it's me, I don't get the hype. I'v had an infused, Atrix 1 and 2
and I tried the Nokia Lumia, which honestly wasn't a bad phone, just lacking in apps. This phone will be here for the long haul!!!

And no, I'm not taking mine back. Not sure why anyone would. It's the best phone on the market right now, and for the foreseeable future.
Don't be a supercilious, condescending, and annoying grammar nazi. It's the internet, mistakes ARE allowed.
Truthfully, I can live with this phone being locked for the rest of my possession of it. So there's no reason for me to turn it back in for a sub-par display and design when I'll eventually get the experience I want with the One X.
Trading mine for a white nexus. I love this phone no doubt but stock AOSP feels right.

Considering the shortfalls of the iPhone 5 and the SGS3, do you think the One X remains the best phone out right now?
And if you do, does it upset you that the other two are getting so much hype? Or is it nice knowing you got the best while everyone else is getting something not as good?
Just wanted to start a discussion on the emotional aspect with our devices. It may sound crazy, but we all know we're all somewhat emotionally attached to our choices.

Yes, I love the screen and i think it's the best screen. I thought the size would be too big but i really like how it's designed.
I still think this is the best phone out of the three. Everyone is saying "iPhone 5! Galaxy SIII!" But in all honesty, people overlook the One X, which is better than both in my opinion. Best screen of the three and looks damn good (though I'll admit, the iPhone 5 is sleek). Running CM10, this is, in my opinion, the best android phone in the US.
Should have went into more detail on what makes it better or else it just sounds like words from a fanboy.
Best phone running stock? For sure
Best phone for customizations? in the current state, nope. Even iOS 6 can already be jailbroken
Screen? In my opinion
Design? The camera sticks out a little too much if you have no case, but other than that, yes.
One XL > iPhone 5 > GS3.
I never was a fan of samsung phones, and I never hated apple products, but I certainly won't fanboy and say one thing is better than the other because it just 'is'
I am loving all the attention android is getting. People are finally starting to take notice of our amazing platform, and I don't care which device is leading the way. We all will gradually benefit

Hmm, does over clocking an using a custom.Rom on the V, make it grow into the flagship size 4.7, give it LTE,
NFC and make it look like not a disposable phone?
I guess it must out run the dual core LTE phone even if it's clocked at 2ghz..it's the V afterall!
If so Kool, I can throw a 100 out for one now!

GS3 feels like one of those play phones I had as a child, and iPhone 5 doesn't bring any new innovations to the table. This phone has a great sturdy feel like the iPhone but this amazing open source OS. Now if I could install android on an iPhone 5 I would probably buy it immediately. Not sure why that project stopped, it was around during the iPhone 3G.
I totally agree with the OP - I came from the iPhone world, and I expected to feel some regret when the iPhone 5 was announced but...nope. The One X is already better in most ways I care about, with the possible exception of the camera. I've handled the hardware of the S3 and don't like it nearly as much...I've come to be a huge fan of unibody polycarbonate designs, and the screen on the One X is still unmatched. To Samsung's credit, though, you can get the S3 on pretty much every carrier ever, while the One X is more difficult to track down, especially in the US.
I really hope Google taps HTC or Sony for the next Nexus, instead of going to Samsung again. The One X running stock would be damn near perfect, especially if it got a slight spec bump (slightly better camera, maybe more RAM). That said, I'm pretty damn happy running CM10 on my One X right now, and I can easily see it carrying me through until my next upgrade.
I also wouldn't mind a Lumia 920 running Stock Jelly Bean, but I may as well ask for a damn unicorn.

got an iphone 5 on launch day, coming from a HTC one x unlocked running team venom rom 1.23 with black out kernel. i can compare screens because my htc one x screen is cracked (getting it fixed) but they are both awesome! iphone is now long enough but still to narrow (should of been 4.3 inch). I get bored with phones quickly my ios past has been a 3g, 3gs, and iphone 4 before and i left it for android simple fact that IOS still looks the same as it did 5 years ago, seriously apple not revamping the UI blows my mind.
now that i have had break for 2 years its a nice change up but i know in a month i will be bored. that being said the iphone 5 hardware wise is better then the htc i feel, the build quality is same but the thinness and the way it looks the 5 looks in black really gets me. I always liked the one x and when ever i handed people the one x they always looked at the back and seemed impressed, so its no slouch. while my htc one x was as fast in a short browser test, maybe lost 2 mobile pages to the 5 by a one-two finish, but thats with a rom and a 2.1 OC. im sure if we went full website and less mobile websites where IOS has the edge it may have been different. i feel impressed that the iphone 5 can do this, The S4 krait is a hell of a cpu and has nearly 100% clock on the 5 and can still load pages faster, on the flip side a 5 month old HTC can still perform just as good as apple's brand new phone.
I liked my htc alot but i will be parting ways with it but i will not be leaving android, i plan on getting the note 2 next month and will be possibly switching the two phones out.
While I'm waiting for my One X replacement to come I have used my mom's Galaxy S3 and I do like the One X better. I thought that sense was snappier than Touchwiz. Plus while the screen on the Galaxy S3 isn't bad at all, the One X's is better and also has more color warmth.
Also, I had the liberty of using my brothers new iPhone 5. Performance on it is zippy, but even with the increased screen size it still is puny next to the One X. One X just has more features than the 5 and a way better interface. It also didn't feel much different from the 4s that I'm temporarily using.
Such a shame the One X/XL doesn't get a mention at all in the race between iPhone 5 and the GS3.
After almost two years with my Inspire, I'm very sad to have lost it, up til the end on jellytime was awesome and it was a new era.
Now I need to get a new phone, and the market seems overwhelming. I saw the developer RandomBlame from Jellytime being pretty happy with the nexus 4, but I'm not so sure I can live without a SD card slot.
I'm interested in reading about experiences from other people who for one reason or another have migrated from an Inspire/DHD to something else.
You guys who used to love you're Inspire/DHD, what phone made you equally or more happy? What phone do you regret going for thinking it would compensate for the ACE you had?

That sucks that you lost it. When looking I had my list narrowed down to three phones: HTC One X, Samsung Note 2, and Samsung Galaxy SIII. All three have good specs but it is up to you what you prefer more. I decided the Note series was just too big. I would have to use two hands to operate it and figured if I was going to do that I would buy a tablet first. Loved the HTC but the killer for me was the lack of SD card expansion and the lack of changing out the battery. Ultimately the S3 was my final choice. Love it so far. Had it rooted by the second day and have been cruising along with it for over a month now.
I'm hearing that there will be an SGS4 coming in April 2013.

I love my inspire as well, however even using the cyanogrnmod 10.1 unofficial sporting android 4.2.1 isn't enough to compensate for poor battery performance. I have had the phone around a year. I think I am sold on getting the Galaxy Note 2. With its huge battery and juggernaut hardware specs I could get two or three years use out of it. Not to mention it has an SD card slot which I too love.

My friend recently got the Z10 he says the only downfall of the device is no native Instagram  I myself had the pleasure of playing around with the phone and its really spectacular, Id choose it over an Iphone but not an android. If your thinking of staying with Android the Galaxy Note 2 is the perfect direction to go

i still have my inspire, will prob be sticking with it for a while i just bought a new battery for it. Holding up good for now. im due for an up grade in two months will see then for sure. I am with att and they suck because would like to try the razr or something different like dna. If Verizon got better service around my area would prob switch.
So I'm considering the One X as it is free from ATT for upgrades and I don't have a lot of cash right now. Is the One X worth it anymore or should I wait until I'm in a better position and spend $100 or $200 on the "best" current model?
I would try to use it for about two years till I can get another free upgrade.
I have the Samsung Focus currently and I'm just sick of it. Too dumbed down to be a real smartphone.
Thanks all.
ETA: Not asking about other models, which phone is best, etc. Don't want to get this locked. Just want to know about the One X.
Nobody can really make that call for you, as everyone's preferences and financial position is different and unique.
Personally, I don't like spending money (in you case, not money, but you are "spending" your upgrade) on any piece of technology that is already a generation or 2 behind. At least any technology that advances as quickly as smartphones. And the One X is pretty close to 2 generations behind at this point. Since it was already superceded by the One X+, and the HTC One will be released sometime in Q2.
On the other hand, many people keep the same phone for years, and don't care about the "latest and greatest".
Of course you are asking on XDA, and the people here tend to be tech junkies and replace their phones much more frequently than the general public.
Personally, this is the best phone I've owned... Mine poops on domestic s3's, and can damn near keep up with my bro in laws OneX+... It's been great to me.. got it on launch day.. not one single issue whatsoever... No scratches or anything, and I've never used a case or screen protector.. dev community is awesome and there are great roms and mods. With the newly discovered s-off, I'd say go for it if it's free bc it would be a hell of an update for you. I'll hold onto mine even when I buy the new HTC ONE.

The HOX was a great device from launch day. Devs have come a long way in gaining Root, BL Unlock and now S-OFF. IMO, the HOX is the best phone on the market next to the HOX+. Since cash is an issue, I'd say go with the HOX till you can move on to another device. If you've lived with the Focus till now, the HOX will breathe new life into your Android addiction =)

It all depends on your phone philosophy. Some people have to have the latest and greatest and are willing to pay the price. Others are fine waiting until previous "hot" phones get discounted. $200 for a phone is a lot of money for some people and that's fine. This is still a great phone, especially now that we have s-off. Just remember that the biggest cost of the phone is your contract. Over two years, you'll spend a lot more than $200.
I'm looking for a new phone. I currently have a Nexus One that I got in July 2011. It was a pretty good phone when I got it (despite it being a year and a half old then), but now it's really showing its age. I've rooted it and installed ICS, but due to the limited ROM and RAM on the Nexus One, there are some problems. Furthermore, I've been running into data connectivity problems with the Nexus One (that I believe are hardware problems related to age) that are really annoying.
Anyway, I've been looking at getting a One X to replace my current Nexus One. I really want to stick with HTC; my past two phones have been HTCs and I really like their build quality and design, which is why I'm looking at the One X.
Before, I dive in and buy a One X (which I will likely get used on eBay), I have a few questions. I have AT&T. My current plan is on an old family plan with unlimited minutes and messaging, with 300 MB data. I don't want to change anything about the plan, but I am pretty sure I'll need a new SIM. Will AT&T be able to give me a new LTE Micro SIM for free no questions asked?
Next, how easy is it to root and install custom bootloaders, recoveries, and ROMs on the One X? I know that HTC doesn't want us messing with things, but I'm pretty sure that I'll want to play around with new ROMs on the One X, providing I get one. After living with stock Android and things like CM and AOSP for the past two and a half years, I told myself that I'd give Sense a legitimate test, but if I don't like it, I'll definitely install a new ROM.
Last thing: white or dark gray? I think that both colors look great. I've seen them both in person and can't make up my mind. White looks really clean and is definitely something different, but I'll probably get a case for the phone which will cover most of the case coloring, so it may not make much of a difference anyway.
Thanks.
I honestly suggest going with the HTC one. If you get the one x from att or it's on the new firmware and wasn't rooted, you will be stuck on stock. The reason I suggest the one is that it'll be brand new while the hox will be a year old by then.. The hox is still good, but the end of it's life already came. I doubt HTC will support it further.

If we get sense 5 as has been confirmed? by reliable soures then that'll bring a fresh wave of development to the one x. I do agree though about getting the one over the one x.

If you have had your current phone since 2011 are you due for an upgrade? HOX are still going for a good chunk of change on eBay and craigslist, I got mine a few weeks ago from radioshack for 99cents.
I've been due for an upgrade from AT&T for a while now, but like I mentioned in the original post, I'm on a family plan with my parents, who don't want to change anything with the plan and don't want to extend the contract out either. I've bought my past two phones off contract and I don't really have a problem with doing so for my next one. I'm looking at a One X just for this reason. For what it is, it seems to be the best deal off contract; I've been seeing them going for about $200-250 on eBay. If I were to wait for the One, I'd probably be looking at prices in excess of $500.

If I was in your boat, I'd get the latest nexus. Updates come way faster than they ever did with any of my other phones and the price is right.

The Nexus 4 is my next choice after the One X. I do love the Nexus line and the Nexus 4 is a really pretty phone, but the all glass back concerns me a bit. It seems like it would be a bit too fragile.
Anyway, any route that I go, I'll probably have to get a new SIM. Will AT&T give me a micro SIM with LTE support?

If they're like any of the carriers here, you'll have to buy the sim. Usually around $10 I imagine.
I went from a nexus one to the HOX as well. A new sim was included with the phone when I got it. If one isn't included you can just go into an ATT store and ask for it. I got one for the wife's new phone that way without any charge.

Is the One X with new firmware (Jelly beam, I'm guessing) not able to be rooted? Would I still be able to unlock the bootloader and install custom ROMs?

The new OneX with 4.1.1 is not rootable.
You will not be able to flash custom roms.

Unless you can find a telus or rogers OneX... But I dunno if you can use att service lol Then you can unlock bootloader very simply  I say go for it bro... I love love love my hox. I've never had trouble with it till I dropped it and cracked screen, but I like the bleeding edge of technology so I seen it as an opportunity to upgrade If your used to the N1 the hox with feel like a speed demon on cocaine

I have been noticing that my Nexus One has been seeming to slow down a lot lately. I would go for the Nexus 4, but it's lack support for AT&T's LTE bands has me concerned. The One X seems like it's a best match for me. It has the HTC build quality that I really like, it has great dev support here at XDA, it has a 720p screen, and true LTE support. Even if I get a device with Jelly Bean that can't be rooted or unlocked now, I put my full faith in the community here. I feel like we as a group can work around the limitation and find a way to root the 4.1 One X.
Sorry for bumping an old topic, but I got my One X this past Saturday. I love it. It's a huge step up from my Nexus One. Everything about it just seems high-end compared to the Nexus One.
The screen is amazing; moving from WVGA to 720p is a huge step up; everything looks so crisp and clear, but that's to be expected when you have a PPI that almost matches a Retina display.
The phone is blazing fast. There's virtually no lag while doing anything at all, which couldn't be said for my Nexus One. It was a pain just trying to browse the web on the Nexus, but with the One X, it's a complete delight.
One of my main concerns with the One X was the battery life. The sealed battery doesn't bother me at all; I never replaced the batteries or any of my previous phones. With my average usage (about 30 minutes browsing the internet over HSPA a day [no LTE here yet], a few texts, and little to no calling, plus occasional WiFi,) I'm getting about the same battery life as I got with my Nexus One. At the end of two days of use, I was at about 20% battery.
Finally, my biggest concern was dealing with Sense. When I was thinking about getting the phone, I don't think the bootloader for v3.18/Android 4.1.1 was unlocked, but I believe it's now unlocked. I got the phone and one of the first things that I did was install Holo Launcher HD, my preferred launcher for a stock Android 4.x experience. To be honest, I can deal with Sense...for now. I've always used stock Android on all my devices, so this is my first time dealing with Sense (or any skin) on a daily driver device, but it's pretty manageable. I think I'll stick with stock Sense for the time being until I feel that I have to have a AOSP or CM10 experience on the One X. There are a few annoyances with Sense, but they're manageable.
Overall, I'm very glad I got the One X, and I don't regret the decision at all.
