Call it the animated wallpaper, beautiful but waste much of battery
It´s similar to the so called Nexus Live-Wallpaper. In my opinion the nexus Wallpaper looks better.
its really a waste of battery
ditto on that, really nice but ****ty battery life
Well, i disagree, on my previous phone who was Android based (2.1, then Cyanogen 7) the battery life stayed the same whether i did or did not use an animated wallpaper, it was an Optimus Boston (z71 variant, the design changes but the hardware is the exact same)
Dang, I really like it.. Too bad. Ha thanks guys!

Battery life
My battery life on the dell streak 5 stays the same with any of the live wallpapers i have tried, Good old dell
yeah its not good
Most of the ones I use do not seem to make a significant difference to battery life, but then again I am a light-medium daily user of my phone.
live wallpapers are cool in concept but not practical for battery life.

I prefer no wallpaper at all
find a wallpaper confusing and eye-tiring when you have a lot of apps and spend much time using your phone and looking at the screen.

Any reason why ALL live wallpapers perform much better on my girlfriends Mytouch 4G? Both phones using Launcher Pro Plus and same live wallpapers. On the MT4G, Launcher Pro is much smoother.

Like I said, it's all live wallpapers. I'm not getting any lag, everything is still snappy, just switching/scrolling through screens is choppy with live wallpapers. One the reasons I use Launcher Pro is for the super smooth scrolling.

I use zeam launcher. Thats smooth with live wallpaper..
I just tried out Zeam. You're right, live wallpapers does not slow it down. Too bad scrolling isn't as smooth to begin with though. This tells me that Launcher Pro just performs better on the MT4G.

I run any of the live wallpapers and use the stock launcher that came with Froyo on the G2x and I have no problems with the live wallpapers. But when I was using Launcher Pro, it was kinda laggy. I think that Launcher Pro is just not for the G2x.
I run a few of the live wallpapers from maxelus.net ... **** is unbelievable causes no noticeable battery drain and runs smooth. And its pretty sick. Some wallpapers are BS and can make your phone run slow access personal info etc. You need to pretend this phone is a PC and all the no-no' s apply... including dl'g aps and or wallpapers

Butter smooth with ADW EX...could be your launcher? ADW EX is hardware accelerated now (since May update) Launcher Pro is not.
Just tried Vortex Galaxy...It's sick! Oh, no lag with ADW EX.
Yes it is Launcher Pro + G2x that doesn't like live wallpapers. I just tried ADWEX and it was nice and smooth. I got a refund after 14 minutes, too bad we can't try it out out longer before we decide if we want to keep it or not.

Hi there. Lot's of words already said about it. But the main question is still the same - why don't you use live wallpapers?
As for me, any scene's beauty just destroyed on the phone, because it's just too small. But i use lwps for tablets for sure, they are really make it more fascinating.
So, my friends and i desided to make some lwp for those users who do not actually use lwps at all.
The work took about 2 months and resulted in our new app Coloring Screen.
The idea is simple. We took photoshop color filters and photo effects and applied them to the current wallpaper (i mean static picture). The only way to do this was to create live wallpaper so this app is lwp.
We cared a lot about battery use and as a result Coloring Screen has almost no battery drain.
Also we added auto-pan feature for those devices that do not support wallpaper scrolling by default like SGS3.
We added more than 20 photo filters and color effects to easily adjust wallpaper:
Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Orange filters
Day time,Night time effects
Autumn, Winter, Sprint and Summer adjustments
Classik black&white, Sepia, Neon, Negative and more
We also added interactive animations:
Time of the day (darker, desaturated and more constrast at night, brighter at day)
Seasons (at autumn time wallpaper will look orange, at winter time - white, etc)
Weather (simple and beautiful rain, snow, sun, clouds, thunder and frost animations)
Dynamic/Random/Interactive coloring (for example, swiping the screen will change wallpaper colors)
Already available in Google Play
Please give me your sign and tell me what are you thinking about this app? Do you find it useful/cool/boring/etc.
Thanks!
Battery consumption. There you have your answer. No other reason behind it. Oh and memory consumption. There two good and viable answers.

Definitely battery/performance as said above.
It's just sad that many android phones supports Live Wallpapers, but the end-user always complain about battery drain and performance issues as well. I really like the idea of moving wallpapers wherever you go (Desktop & App Drawer), it's really an eye candy for anyone! Well I hope someday, someone might fix this. This is one of Android's most unique feature!

Battery life? I really dont understand.
Even if wallpaper drains battery, it's just about 1% of total power consumption (especially in compare with display or wifi/gps/internet usage). It means you are able to use your device for 5 minutes longer a day. It's completely ridiculous.
Btw, as i sad, Coloring Screen does not render anything in background if no weather animation. So battery usage is completely zero. It's behavior as like as regular wallpaper - render to buffer once then do nothing.
But its still 1% same reason why I use zero Widgets. I keep my phone as simple as it gets. Minimum.

WP8 solves this even better, no graphics, no widgets, no animations

I hate lwp because of battery consumption but i agree with your statement that if its bad coded it can kill your battery easily

Coloring Screen is different and may be kinda nice but I'm not one to sit and stare at the screen, therefore I don't really care what the background looks like.
I don't use them because of the lag they normally bring. It's not a lot but noticeable.
My next phone will probably be a quad core, so hopefully I can start using them again

Thanks! Battery almost not affected. In advanced preferences category you can even find Battery Usage options that is set to 0.00% by default
Memory depends on your current available memory. It requires over 11Mb for java and opengl contexts. But so far as android manages memory usage itself you can see much more in task manager because android do not kill apps immidiately. For example, when you have lwp on background and open our preview widget, memory usage doubles. In task manager they both called Coloring Screen so you see incorrect memory usage by the app.
If you'll have troubles just let me know!

Yes, it depends on what sensors the live wallpapers require.
Live Wallpapers are like videos constantly playing in the background even if you are on the launcher or not.
Imagine playing videos (offline/already downloaded) and doing other stuff in the same time.
Yeah playing videos will really drain your battery depending how long your playing out for but because we are talking about live wallpapers the video will play constantly until you stop it (use a background instead of a live wallpaper) and because of the sensors/interval (depends which type) that would make it a interactive video draining battery.
Just be lucky that audio is not on the list.

when it comes to battery life live walpapers take up the most. if you have an OLED screen you can use a totally black screen to get slightly more life out of your battery.

So they eat almost the same amount of battery as a static one as there are only 4 picture states and no movement at all!

Yes, usually, all active applications consume battery. It includes widgets, wall papers and startup applications. The less of those that are active, the longer the battery life is.
There are some live wallpapers that stop functioning when you're not on the homescreen.
I tested it last week, between a static wallpaper and several live wallpapers. The difference was 4% over 24h, with one or two peaking at using 8% more. Since you have to charge most smartphones and tablets once every 24h anyway, that's a mood point.

I personally think live wallpapers are much less power hungry if configured properly. I am using a Sony Xperia Tipo and use A LOT OF LIVE WALLPAPERS, play huge games now and then (Dungeon Hunter 4, Iron Ma 3), use the internet, msg and still survive the day.(Along with music). I configure my live wallpapers to act only upon touching or make them animate with the lease effects and the least no. of moving particles. It is a breaking deal for me. Sure, I can get better battery life without live wallpapers. But, hey. it's an android. Why should i stay with static wallpapers?(Like an iPhone).... Anyway, this is my opiion.

All these developer's wallpapers are very easy on the battery and/or have battery saver options:
Dualboot Games
Maxelus.net
Apofiss
Bonne App!
Kittehface Software
I've also found Juice Pro, and Beautiful relax islands HD (not in the store anymore :S) to be battery efficient.

I'm talking about an hour, on my poverty phone, when I don't charge for 2 days and don't use it at all. Generally it's not even noticeable, especially on a quad core with so much power efficiency. I doubt you'd get more than 10 mins extra on that beast.
Live WP
I use the galatic core lwp and it doesn't eat that much battery.
Depends on the wallpaper. I used to have a microbes walllaper for my s2 and it used only 2% of my battery in 30 hours . some live wallpapers use way less or way more.

Yes ... HD Wallpapers may drain battery as the GPU does a little more work while rendering a HD Wallpaper ... But many launchers downsample the image to match your device screen ..,. so .. technically .. there'll not be a significant battery drain ...
thanks for the information
