I was attempting to root my phone and I believe my system files are now deleted or corrupted (This is my best guess from what I have read online) as my phone will not get past the boot screen which is the white background with the "htc" logo. I am able to hit the down volume button with the power button to see the screen where you see the following:
-Revoluntionary-
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.17.1111
I have the PG58IMG.zip file on my SD Card and when in the above screen, it gives me the prompt "Do you want to start update?". I hit yes, it shows a successful update but when you reboot, it still refuses to boot the phone past the "htc" logo screen. I must admit that I did not do enough research before attempting this "Root" and I'm having difficultly understanding what to do next. If possible, I would like to get the phone back to factory setting. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

#1 - do you have a custom recovery installed?
#2 - remove the PG58IMG.zip file from your SD card or you will never be able to get past the bootloader.
#3 - if you REALLY want to go back to factory, you will need to install an official HTC RUU.
Thanks for the response JWhipple. Here are your answers:
1: Custom Recovery is installed, I've tried 2 different ones, still refuses to boot.
2: I have removed the zip file from the SD Card, still refuses to boot.
3: I haven't tried the HTC RUU yet because I still can't get the phone to boot.
If you boot the phone into bootloader mode you should be able to run the RUU. Someone please correct me if I am wrong!

Do a full wipe from recovery.....including the /system and /boot. Then reflash your ROM. Also, ensure your using the correct firmware for the ROM your using.

I have a similar problem, except that my update failed!! Can I just delete the firmware file and the phone will get back to normal????
The easiest way to solve your issue, providing you DO have a custom recovery e.g. 4EXT or Clockwork, would be to go to the Sensation Android Development sub-forum, find an appropriate ROM, and then flash it through recovery. There are many tutorials online explaining this. Alternatively you could search for "Sensation 4g RUU" which is basically the official program for PC which restores the stock firmware of the device. You do need to get the correct one for the 4G Sensation or you could experience some issues.

Hey tragik74, when you say "run RUU", how exactly do you run it? The only method I see for running anything is to make a PG58IMG.zip file and install that on a SD Card. Which I'm a having an issue with since now my phone shows locked but still has S-OFF.

Hi everyone, if someone could help me out I would be so happy. I have flashed many ROMS through CWM and never had a problem. Decided to try a new one today 12/23/2011 WCX ILLUMINATI SERIES AT&T Inspire 4G ROM and it says it installed succesfully but when it rebooted it got stuck at white HTC screen. I got into hboot mode and when I try to go to recover to flash my backup it takes me to a black screen with a picture of my phone and a red exlamantion point. I have been searching for resolve but no luck. I have an inspire 4g. Someone please help a friend out!
That's the stock recovery. Maybe you missed this (because it was bold, large and red):
One note to new users...this rom uses the stock recovery in order to have charging animation....in order to flash mods etc., you will need to download and flash latest version from CWM, but then you will loose charging animation....Be carefull adding scripts, the rom is already scripted for undervolting and battery life, other scripts may impact the way the rom performs

First boot takes a long while. At this point, pull the battery, put it back in, and boot up normally. Give it a bit. If it boots properly and you want custom recovery, you need to go the market and download Rom Manager and flash recovery from it. If you can't get it to boot, you will need to get a stock rom in pd98img format, place it on the root of the SD card, and flash thru hboot. Then follow the above to get recovery. At that point you would be set to flash a rom thru recovery, or you could restore your backup.

Thank you for the information. Do you know where there is a link for the stock pd98img? I don't know how I will get it to my phone however since I can't seem to get it connected to my computer. Is there something I can do in order to get it on my sdcard since it's a microsd card? I have a card reader on my laptop but it won't fit my small phone sd card.

I actually must have, my bad. Like I said I have been flashing ROMS for quite a while, maybe tried 10 or more and never had a problem. I am hoping I can get my phone back. I did a backup in CWM so it would be nice to somehow just restore it. I need a new pd98file but I don't know how I will get it to my SD card since I can't access it from my compter. I will try again to plug it in USB to see if I can. Does anyoen know where I can get the stock pmg98 file for my inspire 4g?

That is your big problem now, you did a wipe/factory reset in hboot, so now you can't boot the rom you flashed and you also have no custom recovery. You can find a link to a stock rom in pd98img format in the sticky in the general section. However, you will need a way to get it on the SD card, like a SD card reader for the PC or another phone that you can put your SD card into and connect to the PC.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yeah I probably shouldn't have just started clicking things and trying things but I was freaking when I can't use my phone. So I will look in the sticky for the stock pd98img and figure out a way to get it to my SD card. So once I get that done should I just get to that install zip from sd and select my pd98img file and hopefully that works? Thanks again!

No. Put the PD98IMG on the root of your sd card, then use volume down/power to get to hboot. It will take a second or two but it will find the file and ask if yuou want to flash it. Confirm with volume up. Wait until it tells you its safe to reboot. reboot.
Tada, your phone works again.

a little research goes a long way here.
volume DOWN+power button. puts you in HBOOT, select FASTBOOT, plug into computer, and find instructions for FASTBOOT flash recovery.....
you dont have to worry about finding a microsd->sd card holder to put the file on...
fastboot flash recovery (get the latest CWM img), then you can mount phone as usb storage in CWM and copy rom of your choice, then flash normally.

where can i get this p98img for my phone?
Look in the stickied threads for the General sub forum.
I've got CWM made into a PD98IMG.zip file. Rename the file from PD98IMG_recovery.zip to PD98IMG.zip. If you get a hold of an SD card reader put this on the root of the card and go to hboot, the phone will find it and ask if you want to flash it. Select yes and let it do it's thing. When it is done reboot your phone and you will have recovery again. It is an older version but it will get you back up and going until you can update it with Rom Manager.
Something worth mentioning is that after you restore something with a pd98img file, as soon as the phone is completely rebooted, move it off the root of you sd card. I would recommend creating a folder with the name of what the zip actually is and placing the zip inside it.
Good point there, man.

Hi everybody, after i have flashed a rom, my phone doesn't want to start and always reboot on the HTC screen.
So i try to go back to the bootloader and here i am :
Model ID incorrect
Update Fail !
Press <POWER> to reboot.
So i searched on the net and read some people success by using Android Flasher then i download an hboot here : alpharev .nl but the software ask me an ENG bootloader and i can't find any on the net ?
Hope there is someone can help, thanks
Have you run SuperCId
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
Follow step 4, then update firmware. You will have to deleate the update file of your sd card 1st
IS there a way to access the SD card ? I have nothing for read it right now only my phone ...
either put it in another phone or put it in an adaptor for lappy/pc
yeah i would put in an other phone or something else but got nothing until tonight so then i guess i have to wait tonight
Have you got a recovery on your phone. Clockwork etc.
If so take memory card out boot to recovery, then put memory card back in.
You only got to get past bootloader, with out it seeing the update file on sd
Yeah i just found this way, i delete the PG58IMG.zip install a new ROM and now the phone boot do i have to make the process you told me with ADB ?

If you plan on flashing the latest ICS roms, you will need the laest firmware.
You phonse has to be SuperCID to that.
So maybe worth it, its easy enough to do.
ok thank you for help i will do this then other ROM will finish to be ICS so yeah would better to do
I wanted to flash to ARHD 6.3
This is my first time.. I managed to S off.. But then the bootloop began after I flashed PG58IMG.zip via fastboot.
Step 1. To S-OFF your Sensation - (You do not need to do this if you have S-off already or done this before) - WORKING NOW for TMOUS users
Visit
download the application for your operating System. AND EXTRACT IT TO A FOLDER
YOU MAY NEED TO DISABLE YOUR ANTIVIRUS PROGRAM- Norton is flagging up Revolutionary as a Virus when it isn't
IMPORTANT
Fill out the form under the download links with your OS, Device, Hboot Version and Serial number. This will give your beta key to enable you to S - OFF. Make a note of this.
How To get your Hboot Version - 3 methods below
1. [/url] and if it has found your device it should read
"Found your Device: HTC Sensation Z710* Applications -> Development)
4. With the phone switched on (not in HBOOT, just the regular home screen), plug in your USB cable and select HTC sync mode.(IGNORE any warning messages on your phone telling you it cannot find HTC Sync )
5. Launch revolutionary.exe. It should detect the phone and ask for your beta key. Type it (BE CAREFUL, as its case sensitive) or copy and paste it in.
If Revolutionary fails to find your phone verify you have all the drivers installed, try disk drive mode or charging mode (Linux users can use disk drive mode. Confirmed to be working by others)
6. Once you have entered your beta key correctly, follow any on screen prompts or actions from revolutionary and wait for it to S-Off,
7. You're done. Your Device will Successfully have S-OFF....if it hangs on method 3 and doesn't S-Off. See post 2 below for solutions.
IF REVOLUTIONARY SAYS FAILED YOUR PHONE IS NOT SUPPORTED. Go back and check hboot using the methods above. some users are told its failed and they still have S off now. If you have S-off your hboot will now be 1.17.1011 and revolutionary will tell you now your device is not supported
8. Revolutionary will now ask you to Install clockwork recovery mod after S OFF. Type N and install it manually below (the recovery provided is v4.0.1.4 doesn't charge when device is switched off, the one below v5.0.0.1 does charge)
9. Your Device now is S-off.
To install clockwork recovery for the sensation. Follow step 2!
STEP 2. To INSTALL Recovery - v5.0.0.8
1. Download recovery v5.0.0.8 for the Sensation HERE: or Multiupload
2. Copy the PG58IMG file into the Root folder of your SD card (The main Folder of your Memory Card)
3. Turn off your phone FUlly and reboot into the Bootloader/HBOOT screen (see post above on how to get to hboot screen)
4. Press Volume up to Accept when it asks" Do you want to start the update"
5. Press Power Off to Reboot back to android after installation is successful (normal screen with homescreen)

good question..
immediately after s off, i boot into my ROM and tried to install busybox and other apps that requires superuser or root but failed and stating that my device was still not rooted..
so i proceed to install a recovery (in this case its ext4 recovery) but failed to find a .zip installer (but managed to find the .apk and .img version but afraid to proceed considering the extension wasn't the same as per guide's PG5...ZIP). so i tried to simply install cwm as per stated in the guide. coz i know after recovery is installed, only then i would be able to install the su zip files.
then it boot looped.. n here we are trying to shoot all of these troubles.. XD
and if my understanding was wrong, pls correct me. thanks!
only after you sent me the links i managed to install ext4 recovery via a much easier method using cmd.exe..
n that also means that i wasn't even able to follow through the supercid part of the guide..

wait a moment, i dont know if things are making more sense to me but, is it possible that this was caused by a wrong firmware? i just figured out my cid and its htc_044 and there are 4 different version of firmware for this cid, so should i try each of it until my phone boots to my original ROM?
Update: Oh God, I'm in such a relief! Thank God it works now. I flashed the firmware 1.17 n now am able to boot back into my ROM. Now i'm gonna get things backed up n will proceed. phew thanks so much for helping me out. The cause was maybe the zip files werent compatible with mine. So i check my cid n mid, n downloaded what might be the original one. so now its fixed..

now
1.you got rom on your sdcard or on pc ?..then extract the boot.img file from rom's zip file (usually present in kernels folder... if it has more than one boot.img choosethe one of your choice)
2.keep the boot.img in adb folder (assuming you got adb/factboot setup)
3.keep the device in fastboot mode and connect it to pc (bootloader then fastboot)
3.flash the boot.img via fastboot
command : "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
(you need to do this every time you install custom rom via custom recovery---to prevent this you can install latest 4EXT custom recovery 1.0.0.5 RC3 )
4.reboot ---then voila it should work
The Rom you mean is custom Rom? But I discover that after I flash the dark forest Rom, I can't flash any other custom Rom or kernel. It says (bad). Installation aborted . Later will try the method that you stated. The adb folder is on pc? You mean c: Android on my computer?

To do soff we need to use jb soff
First get your device out of bootloop using above steps
then we'll deal with soff

Lol.. I thought you are stuck at bootloop..
The above method I mentioned helps too as these random boots might happen due to kernel/module mismatch... So first do that and see the random reboots are gone.
If that didn't solve the issue
Then this random boots might be due to improper flash of rom... First if you got custom recovery installed.. Do a full wipe (use ARHD super wipe too if you want to) from recovery and then flash the rom again... See that solves the issue.. If still not then once again extract the boot.img and repeat the above process again

trying now, will leave the feedback later or soon. so what is the next step to get it S-OFF? is there easier methods?
i have done what you said on top, the boot.img method. so lets hope the phone goes well and doesnt stuck anytime. whats next?

Check guide to Juopunutbear soff in sensation general thread its by auggie.. Good guide follow it to soff

When I was on a stock rom on my sensation the phone was all kinds of bad, it would restart randomly like you mention and it would always force close and reload sense...once I flashed a custom rom everything is perfect. So good I am scared to flash something else and get problems..sounds like you need to to superwipe and start all over. with s-off and everything.
use this guide. this is what i used and did everything exactly and it worked.

well that was fast
got custom recovery? ...there might be an option to format sdcard
if you got 4EXT recovery...you'll have that option..dont know about cwm
if i cant format through CWM , then what else should I do. Its too late to flash 4EXT while the Install from zip option cant mount SD card. I tried on CWM Format / sdcard, but it says Error mounting SD CARD Skipping format...

lot of ppl got their sdcard fried while trying JB SOFF....the only option left for you is to try card reader...
also you can flash 4EXT via fastboot as i mentioned in my earlier posts...that method doesnt require sdcard
but worry not...now that you are SOFF...you can completely control your device
if i get a new sd card will this solve the problem? i'm afraid that after getting new sd card and the blank sd appear again.

Hi all. Was sorting through some stuff in my room the other day and found a Desire S
Don't know/remember where it came from and none of my friends remember giving me one.
Problem is, it seems to be bricked. No recovery, and using fastboot, I can't seem to flash a recovery img to it - just sits there doing nothing. Have left it for an hour and nothing happened.
Can obviously still get to the bootloader and fastboot, but can't do much from there. Flashing a new system.img just hangs as well.
Also got the RUU_Saga_Telstra_WWE_1.36.841.3_Radio_20.28d.30.0805U_3805.04.02.01_M_release_184558_signed.exe file and tried that, but that has been sitting there for half an hour saying rebooting to bootloader.
Have checked the SD card - it has a fat32 and ext3(maybe ext2 - can't remember) partition which sounds right.
Details on the bootloader as follows -
Revolutionary
SAGA OVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-6.98.1002
RADIO-3805.04.02.01M
eMMC-boot
Any ideas as to what may be wrong with it and how to get it working?
EDIT - I have read through alot of posts, however, I don't know the history of this phone, what it was running, what recovery etc.
hmmm revolutionary s-off so it should already have some sort of custom recovery installed
you can't run RUU directly over 6.98 hboot.
put recovery zip file in sd card and try install via hboot?

Should a recovery zip just have the img file plus an md5 file inside it? (never actually looked before now) And how does one install it from hboot? If it is called recovery.zip will it just be picked up and installed automagically? I really don't know much when it comes to actual Android HTC phones. Have mucked around lots with the Touch Pro 2 and HD2 (installing android and WP7), but never one that runs Android by default.
yes it's just img plus md5 plus version...but you have a "bricked" device anyway why not just give it a try...wouldn't really hurt...that's just my dumb thought
rename the file PG88IMG.zip, put in sd card root directory, boot into bootloader and normally it would be picked up automatically and you'll have option to install it.

Tried this just now - using 4EXT_Recovery_v2.2.7_RC5
Says parsing, then goes back to main bootloader screen. Selecting recovery just goes back to the main bootloader screen
Just trying this now -

Has been sitting there about 5 minutes (used fastboot, not android flasher). Will go for a smoke and see what it's doing when I get back. It either is really effing slow, or properly bricked. Fastboot on my Xoom and Atrix were much quicker if it's the former.

sorry my bad. for this method to work the zip file probably needs to have an android-info.txt inside, which 4ext doesn't.
sorry
Still no luck - sat there for 10 minutes and did nothing. I think it may be well and truly bricked

Ok, so found part of the issue - P88IMG.zip is the bootloader/hboot/whatever the hell it's called, not recovery. Found a stock p88img, attempting to install now in the hope I can run the RUU afterwards. Hopefully it won't sit there for an hour doing not much
