Hanging on Shutdown or Restart - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

When I try to use the power menu to do anything related to shutting off the phone (shutdown, restart, recovery, etc) it hangs as it's shutting down and freezes on the home screen - this just started last night. The only thing that ends up shutting it off is a battery pull.
Anybody else experiencing this or know what's up? I've cleared/formatted/wiped and loaded a couple of different ROMs to see if that helped but the problem is persistent.

Have you confirmed this will fix it? What version of touch? I have not found any solution to this problem yet and have tried touch but it made it worse..

Hey xcrazydx has anyone put clockwork touch in a zip file that you know of or is possible to flash the touch version with my older version cwm? That's about the only thing I have not tried...

That's not possible, man. You can't flash a different cwm in cwm. You tried to re-dl the touch version?

Yes same thing. But I just went to cwm website and I'm downloading it straight from them and I'm gonna try it again.

OK I got cwm touch to work right finally. But it still froze on restarts and shutdowns. So I wiped cache partition and dalvick cache now finally the phone restarts and powers down as it should.. so its confirmed now that to fix the freezing at shutdown/restart problem is to flash cwm touch. Also seems that the only version of cwm that works right with this version of ics is cwm touch. The old version will function but its possible that it will cause little bugs or quirks.
Thanks xcrazyd for the help now we know for sure what the deal is. I guess the touch I downloaded the other night was corrupted cause I just downloaded and installed again and it worked great....

[Q] Can't mount /cache/

So I have read the other threads where people run into the issue of not being able to boot their phone back up but it isn't helping me with my G2X....
I am getting the error message of can't mount /cache/xxxxxxx every time I try and wipe my phone. I also am unable to flash any new ROMs or boot my phone into a normal state. Has anyone had this problem? can anyone help? I greatly appreciate it....
How did your phone get in this state? What did you do before this problem occurred?

I actually have no idea, I had just flashed an eagleblood ROM and it was working fine, I went to make a voice command and it froze, after 5 minutes i took the battery out and put it back in and tried to boot it up, that is where the problem began.

They don't stock them anymore, so if they don't have anymore in stock they say they give you the next best phone which in reality would be a Galaxy S2.
But they mean next best in terms of price, and since the Galaxy S 4G sells for the same price as the G2x used to sell for, that'll probably what you'll be getting if you return it and they don't have any G2x's left.

Phone reboots/hangs on splash screen

I really would appreciate some input on this.. I was on NexusMod ICS for about two days before I woke up one morning to find that my phone had rebooted and was stuck at the splash screen. I tried pulling the battery and powering it on but got the same result, so I tried to get into CWM and couldn't. It would boot to recovery but not long enough to actually do anything, so I ODIN'd stock rom and CWM then flashed AOKP build 38 instead of NexusMod. Everything was fine for a few days but this morning I woke up to my phone stuck on the splash screen again, only this time when I pulled the battery and powered it on, it booted up fine, but my wallpaper had changed (weird).. So I really don't have a clue why this would happen, but I'd appreciate some help, and TIA!

Yes, that's a good idea, but wouldn't you think it would be an app that's causing it since it happened on two very different roms? Or am I way off in my thinking?

Had this issue with some roms when I was using cwm. Once I updated to cwm touch didn't have an issue.

Ez-Recovery problem?

Ok I don't know how it happen but as you can see the part that say flash is gone any advice, I've uninstalled and installed twice, erase data, and even tried titanium back up nothing works, am I missing something, oh I'm in clean Rom 2.1.
I cannot scroll down as you can see that part is missing.

instead of trying to flash clockwork mod try selecting TWRP and see if the flash button pops up
How would I do that? Sorry never used anything but cwm

Idk what happened here, did you maybe change the pixel density of your rom? I've never encountered an app glitch like this before.
Alternatively, if you want to use a different recovery then you could install TWRP Recovery using "GooManager" in the Play Store. Just hit Menu then select Install OpenRecoveryScript to install TWRP, it's all touch and fairly simple from there. Your pre-existing backups aren't compatible from CWM though.

Thanks for all the help guys,I just installed fast reboot, which takes me to the recovery like cwm. Guess I'll use that didn't change pixel thing, don't know how lol is there a way to check?

You would know the pixel density is changed because you have to manually change it in the build.prop. You don't need to worry about it since you didn't do it. Plus, changing pixel density would alter the way your home screen and each app is displayed so it wouldn't be just one app that looked different.

Try reflashing a different recovery through ez recovery. There's a thread maintained in themes and apps, pick whichever you want and try it again. TWRP might work too.

[Q] i727 Boot Loop.

Hello. Basically I tried installing mohan_kr's ATT-SGH-I727-UCMC1-STOCK-odexed-cwm.zip onto my Skyrocket i727 and it gets as far as half-way into the Rethink Possible screen, freezes, then reboots. Then continues to do that until it just stops and shuts the phone down entirely. Before installing I formatted /system, wiped data/factory reset and wiped the cache partition but it only results in a boot loop. This was all done with ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.6. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? I tried searching but the only thing related turned out to be a stuck power button, which this isn't.
If I remember right, the recovery you're using is old as dirt. Am I right?

Ya pretty much haha. My friend, who's had a lot more experience with androids than I have, installed it along with gingerbread so we could just update straight from there with CWM to jelly bean 4.1.2 but now every rom I try gets stuck in a boot loop. Is there a way to upgrade CWM without an active OS?

Grab an updated recovery from here, load it onto your memory card, enter recovery, Install Zip from External SD, flash.
Just download the latest recovery and install using Odin, after that you can try flashing the ROM.. Mohan's ROM will work like a charm...
Ended up using the flashable version of TWRP 2.5.0.0 and installed it with CWM. Was up and running in no time thanks for the replies!
