Having Trouble Rooting - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Im really having trouble at the min rooting my device ive done the started steps downloading the android sdk but still not getting anywere with it can anyone help?

Notice how the Development subforum has zero questions like this? That's because questions are not supposed to be posted here. Either ask in the rooting thread, or in Q&A. Hopefully, the mod will move this to where it belongs.
Are you following the method? Haven't rooted yet, but it doesn't appear that the SDK is needed.

Also, it's extremely helpful to give more details.
i.e. These are the exact steps I've done.
This is the error I see at this step
Just saying it doesn't work I need help is hard to debug.

[Q] Frozen on "running psneuter"

Greetings!
I'm new to all this so I apologize if I'm posting in the wrong place. Please forgive me if I am.
I've spent the last hour searching all over these forums and the web in general for the answer to my question, but I haven't seen a resolution.
I have now tried the SuperOneClick root for my Nexus One about a dozen times, and it keeps freezing on "Running psneuter..." and never ever goes any further.
I have tried this on two different computers, I installed the USB drivers from the Android SDK, and I have USB debugging turned on. I've followed those instructions for what happens when you get in the loop, even though they don't seem to apply to this exact situation.
There have been a few other threads here that seem to be about this topic, but they simply die out with no apparent resolution.
Please help! I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Any ideas? I'd really like to root my phone, but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong...
Yeah, USB debugging on is fine..
Have you tried the gingerbreak APK?

I apologize for being such a noob to all this, but I'm not familiar with what that was. All anyone talks about in the "blogosphere" is SuperOneClick.
Does the gingerbreak APK simply root the phone and not mod it? For the moment I really just need to root. Eventually I want to MOD too, but first I want to get Titanium Backup Pro on there so I can save some game data before I MOD.
Again, sorry for being such a newbie. I haven't done rooting/modding since my G1 about 18 months ago, and things have changed since that...
I have to admit, I'm surprised how many posts I've seen with the exact problem I'm having, yet nobody has responded with an answer to this issue. There are dozens of comments on the Shortfuse site from other people who are stuck at "Running psneuter," and there are no fixes or even responses, really.
There seem to be many smart people on these forums, so it's strange that this hasn't been worked out or even addressed...
Exact same problem as above.. Locks at "running psneuter"
Pulling the usb then goes to ***IF IT KEEPS LOOPING.. Etc *** and then killing ADP server..
Nexus one
2.3.4
GRJ22
From what little I've been able to get out of others here, it seems that the problem is there's no exploit for 2.3.4 yet.
However, I found a guide to rooting here: http://goo.gl/oCWvR
It requires you to have an unlocked bootloader, a process that basically wipes your phone, so be aware of that. But I'm all rooted now so it's definitely possible to do.
Good luck!
I used the exact same guide.. went to post it to a thread here but as I have low post count I cant post links..
Bootloader was already unlocked.
Heh, well, once you get to SIX posts like I have, you're clearly a big-shot poster But yeah, that's a very good guide.
In the end, though, it wasn't what did it for me. I was still having issues with it, but it got fastboot on my system and got me started. I then followed the instructions on Cyanogen's site and put a different recovery on there in order to get CM7 installed on my phone.

[Q] Just where do you begin?

I am totally lost here with this forum. I looked at a few links in a few threads but what I saw appplies to tablets I am not sure if it works for phones. As a total noob I want to root my phone and maybe install a few other OSes on it. But I want to do this safely so that if something goes wrong I can always go back to factory resets without having to send my phone back to verizon. My phone is the HTC Thunderbolt. Essentially I am looking for something an app or guide that tells you step by step how to back up and then root my phone. Can someone direct me to where I need to go for this or where to start searching?
There's a box near the top of screen on the right. It says 'Jump to your device: start typing' Try typing Thunderbolt in there and it will take you to the threads you require.
The Thunderbolt section is here: Sub-Forums : HTC Thunderbolt
I suggest you read through the Q&A and General subforums first. That should give you a better idea.
Generally it is quite safe on Android to root your phone and install a custom rom. Just make sure you read the instructions carefully, and always make a backup first!

[Completed] Step by step root guide?

I have an HTC droid incredible 4glte and i'm interested in rooting it and/or installing cyanogen on it, since it's already past its warranty. i've done a fair amount of reading about rooting and whatnot on this site and others, but i don't feel i know enough to get started w/o bricking my device or loosing data that i want to keep.
I have no software downloaded on my computer pertaining to my phone, and i've not actually done anything to my phone either: everything is stock.
is there a list of instructions somewhere that can guide me step by step (or more accurately, click by click... i really don't want to screw up my phone, especially since i'm not sure i'd know how to fix it) through rooting my phone beginning to end?
also, is there somewhere/someone who can answer these questions:
1. do i have to have a custom recovery if i'm rooting/flashing a new ROM?
2. what does the stock recovery do that's different from a custom one?
3. most importantly, can i root my phone and keep the stock OS/other stuff?
a million thanks to anyone who can answer these questions!
Hello,
Well I am giving you a link to an "index" thread. What it contains are links and guides to anything you need for that device. You will be required to do some reading and research on your own. Xda assist is for helping you find your way.

Good luck

i doubt you will find any general rooting guides. reason being, there are countless roots for different devices, and each has its own way to install.
roms are pretty straight forward, every one i have ever used is flashed in recovery, which is not much more than clicking a few buttons once you have a recovery installed.
your best option to learn would be to go to your phones forum and read any threads in development titled root and recovery (likely titled "twrp" "cwm" or "phils")
before trying any of that, you will want to learn thoroughly how to return to stock. those threads are usually in the general forum of your phone. it is really important to learn how to fix your phone before installing any mods, then you wont be so frantic when you break it, and dont know how to fix it.
Thank you and I assume the same applies for tablets right ?
Its difficult finding a thread specific to my tablet reason being its not a branded tablet .

yes
it really doesnt matter what the device is. you can only use roots, recoveries and roms that support your device, and have to follow the instructions contained with them.

[Completed] I bricked my Note 7 while trying to root it and I have no recovery. What can I do?

I tried everything to root my SM-N30F UD. I'm very new to rooting and it all seems extremely complex. Every tutorial I followed wasn't nearly specific enough and left out vital details. In light of all this, my device seems useless. I've tried whey root process imaginable. I just want my phone to be functional again if at all possible. I tried to restore it with Odin, but it keeps failing. I'm lost.
Can anyone give me a VERY DETAILED step by step (How To) walkthrough including the superfluous details that most people probably wouldn't need?
Thanks in advance.
