Seems like I've been having this problem regularly since I rooted/installed Fission ROM. I even SBF'ed back to original, but it didn't seem to fix my issue. I regularly have to reboot my phone to receive text messages.
I can't seem to find any rhyme or reason to it. I've tried re-programming my phone, but every time it attempts to reprogram, it makes a weird noise and reboots.
Am I experiencing a hardware problem, possibly? With the radio?
Honestly no idea where to go from here, but inability to receive text messages = huge problem.
Are you using it on Verizon or on a non-Verizon GSM/HSPA network?
I've got the same issue using my milestone1 but milestone2 has more ram, so that problem should'nt appear at this device.
I believe I'm on the Verizon network, I'm using it in places I've always had good coverage.
Update: I re-installed Fission 2.4.3 I had from backup and installed Handcent SMS. So far, so good. I haven't appeared to miss any text messages since then.
Still, it's a very odd situation. Hoping Gingerbread gives some more stability, though I'm not sure why it would matter.
This has happened to me on TMOUS and to a friend as well...I have SGII she has MyTouch 4g...after reboot, a flood of undelivered texts comes in...all with the same time so doesn't help when trying to see when originally sent.
I'm rooted/custom rom and she's bone stock...wondering if its a network issue or android problem
Hey guys I am a brand new T-Mobile customer as of yesterday (coming from US Cellular) and I got the G2x phone. Previously I had the Mesmerize (Galaxy S).
I've got just a couple questions that are probably simple enough. First of all, as soon as I got the phone last night, I downloaded the LG Update Tool from the LG website and updated the phone to Gingerbread. Now today it appears the update is OTA. Is the update I got last night the same as the OTA update, so I don't need to update again?
For whatever reason, when I go into the settings to check for updates, it keeps saying there was an authentication error rather than just saying there are no updates. Is that normal? My build number is GRI40 and Android version is 2.3.3.
Second, on my old phone, in the pull down menu, at the top there were buttons to toggle WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and silent mode. On this phone, there is nothing there, just big letters that say T-Mobile. Is there a way to get the toggle switches? I found them pretty useful.
And lastly, in the pull down menu, it constantly says I have a new voice mail and to dial some weird number, with no way to clear it. I've already set up my voice mail box and I don't have any messages. What is this notification that won't go away? Thanks for any help!
PS:
Any easy way to root this phone?
New to T-Mobile, just got the G2X.....read the threads.
The update is the same. In your phone settings under about it should say Android Version 2.3.3 and v21e. The pull down menu toggles are available with Cyanogenmod and some other custom ROM's. As far as your notification that won't go away, not really sure whats up with that. On a personal note, I would take that phone right back to the store and exchange it for a Sensation. I've been an Android user since the G1 and I can say without doubt this is the worst phone I've ever owned. It is plagued with bugs.

Welcome to the G2x!! In the next few hours you will either be flamed for buying a crappy phone, or welcomed for buying a Great phone. I personally think its a great phone.
Your questions:
1. The LG update and the TMO OTA are almost the same. Same basebands and builds. Looks like the OTA does change some icon colors. Stay tuned here for how to get both.
2. There is NO in the top bar tool for that. But there is a widget called power control that does the same thing. Check it out.
3. I really don't know about the voice mail and will leave that to someone else.
As far as rooting, there are several good how to root and how to 1 step root threads located on this forum. Its quick and easy. Make sure you look at the Recovery threads too for the easy 1 step recovery options. You'll find these located in the General sub forum
And remember, use the search feature for any questions....many have already been answered. Check out the search feature in the general sub forum and type, How to root your g2x, or how to mod your g2x. You will get some good hits.
Welcome.
Search sucks, isn't always that easy.
But I can definately recommend you read the stickies here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049154
They are very very helpful.
Thanks guys... I fixed the voice mail notification by sending myself a voicemail from another phone and then deleting it from mine.
So does anybody else get a authentication error when they use the phone to check for a software update after having used the LG Updater to install Gingerbread? In my phone the build is listed as GRI40, but on the LG Update Tool it reads the phone's build as V21E.
EDIT:
And I was seriously considering the Sensation. But in the end, the only advantage seemed to be the extra 128MB of RAM, which doesn't seem to help in benchmarks or usage. At first I thought qHD was going to be an advantage, but the screen just didn't pop and seemed washed out... unlike the G2X which looked much nicer, and I believe is IPS. Also from all the reviews I've seen the Tegra 2 seems faster than the dual core Snapdragon and Adreno 220 in the Sensation. Plus the Sensation having 1GB of internal storage is kind of lame, where as the G2X has 8GB!
With regard to the feature toggle widgets, I use a tool from the market called Elixir. It lets you set up your own widgets, among other cool things. For example, I have a widget on my home screen that has seven (not four) widgets across: silent/vibrate/normal ringer; wifi; GPS; Bluetooth; wifi hotspot; battery status; and day/date.
I got g2x and sensation. Only thing good on sensation is camera, and sense sucks. Screen like you say is washed out

I've been using [ROM][UNOFFICIAL]Tiny's CM10.1 Inc builds (NIGHTLY) on my HTC Droid Incredible phone and it has worked well with few issues. So I put it on my wife's DINC too. Since installing it she has stopped getting voicemail notifications from her cell service, Page Plus. It might just be coincindence as she's had past issues with voicemail such as a new messages counter that was always 1 too high until after much frustration with PP customer service they fixed the issue. I don't use Page Plus (I use Google Voice with Freedompop's free data service and everything is peachy) so I don't have an easy way to test this without taking my wife's phone from her while I mess with it. And their customer service is not enthusiastically helpful when one is using unsupported software on an unsupported phone.
I tried turning notifications off/on through Page Plus's personal options menu. I tried clearing data under phone.apk and tried another full wipe, clear Dalvik cache and reinstall and tried a couple other voicemail notification apps through the Google Play store without success.
Google searches show some have had to use a patched phone.apk to fix a lack of voicemail notifications after installing custom roms, but I don't know if that's relevant to this case. I tried searching directly through these forums for related issues but currently get a message "vbulletin: searching temporarily unavailable"
Before delving deeper into trying to determine whether the fault lies with Page Plus, this rom, or some configuration issue I was hoping for some guidance. Sorry for polluting the general thread, but I'm a newb with few options.
Having same issue. I have Page Plus as well and cannot get any visual notification of voice mails. Any help would be appreciated. Just upgraded from Gingerbread and like Jelly Bean except for this small issue. Thanks.
Thanks for letting me know you have the same issue. It strengthens my suspicion the issue is with the rom and not with Page Plus. The problem with searching these forums went away and with further searching it seems likely the issue lies with phone.apk, but others fixes for this issue appear to be specific to the carrier and I did not find one for Page Plus.
Our temporary work around was to set up a Google Voice account for my wife and forward her voice mail there. But that has a few drawbacks. Now she needs a data connection to get her voicemail and Page Plus prepaid data is silly expensive so she only gets her voicemails while connected to wifi.
I expect we'll soon try flashing back to a known working rom and see if the issue goes away. If so, that will confirm the issue is with the new rom. I'll post an update when we know more.

I tried several free voicemail notification apps from the Google play store but none of them worked for Page Plus under any of the versions of Jelly Bean that I tried.
So in resignation I flashed CM 7.2 and voice mail is working perfectly again. I'd appreciate hearing any solutions for getting voicemail notifications working for Page Plus in Jelly Bean on a droid incredible but am unlikely to explore this further on my own.
Got both mms and voicemail notification working with AOKP Jelly Bean Milestone 1 on my Fascinate with Page Plus. I tried CM10.1 and Gee Wiz 4.2 and neither worked. Gee Wiz worked for the mms but not for the notifications. CM10.1 did not work for either mms or vm notification. So, AOKP it is for me! I really like JB and did not want to go back to GB. Hope this helps.

Thanks! I'll look into AOKP for the Droid Incredible.
I previously had a Samsung Galaxy S3 that ran Android 4.1.2. Push notifications would come through pretty much instantly.
Now that I have my Nexus 5, I'm noticing that push notificiations are delayed. For example, I might receive an email on my PC saying that someone has posted on my Facebook timeline, but a notification doesn't pop up on my phone for 10-15 minutes later. Sometimes I get no notifications for a while because they're delayed, then the notification sound on my phone will go off 3 or 4 times in a row as a bunch of notifications from different apps have all arrived at once.
Also, sometimes I got no notification at all. For instance, I sold an item on eBay and usually I would get a notification that it has sold. On this particular occasion, no notification appeared. The same has happened with Facebook. Sometimes I will go to Facebook and find that a friend has written on my timeline, yet I didn't receive a notification about it on the phone.
I Googled this issue and found it was a problem that plagued the Nexus 4, so I'm wondering if it also affects the Nexus 5 too. Does anyone else have this issue with the Nexus 5? Is there any fix for it?
I get this too, but not very often. Most of the time I find my phone gets notifications before my PC or other phone does. But there are occasions, particularly when I'm not on WiFi, when I either get delayed notifications, or I won't get them at all, until I reconnect to WiFi.
It's been happening to me, including when I was running totally stock w/ locked bootloader. I'm on Sprint. Not sure if it's a data issue or phone issue.
Turning off wifi optimization solved my delayed corporate email (outlook) notification.
Thanks for the replies.
I'm having this issue while connected to Wi-Fi, although I haven't tested to see if the issue occurs via my mobile network as well. I have tried 2 factory resets, but that didn't fix it.
It's almost like, when the screen is off and the phone sleeps, it loses the ability to receive push notifications, but then after a while it suddenly regains it and that causes a bunch of notifications to arrive at once.
I've contacted Google support about it, so I'll see what they say.

Any update on this? What did they say? I have the same problem and it's driving me crazy.. I came from GS3 and notifications were instantaneous... on this one I have to open lets say Whatsapp every other minute to check if someone sent me a message... and even sometimes I open the app and it takes some time for the internet to "wake up" and finally refresh the app... it sucks... I would return my phone if this can't be fixed easily..
So any update or solution on this would be gratly appreciated. Thanks

Google ended up offering me a replacement phone, but that didn't go too well. The new phone they sent wouldn't connect to my Wi-Fi network, so I contacted them to return it but they told me I had to return my original phone, get another replacement, and only then could I return the second one. Obviously, each time they sent out a phone they were putting holds on my credit card for £xxx so in the end I phoned up and complained. To cut a long story short, I still have the original phone and I haven't decided what to do yet.

Interesting, I have just turned this off on mine too to see.
I only get delays when I am connected to my home wifi (2.4 or 5GHz). Maybe it is because I only have a 4mb ADSL connection ...
I will check tonight if that fixes it and/or also try the PNF app.
any update or fix on this yet? this is driving me mad, every time I get a notification on twitter or my email my idol picks it up first and my phone gets it 8-9 minutes later even if I'm using it at that moment, anybody else get the delay even while using the device?
All of a sudden I have started facing this problem since the past few days

I am using Moto g and I think its an issue with KitKat rather than with the hardware or the network. My push notifications are being delayed and that wasnt the case with JB 4.2 on my earlier phones.
Very frustrating
I've not been getting google hangouts messages until 20-30 mins later. sometimes i never get a notification, but if i check hangouts i see a new message. Another times i only get the message on the computer, but never on the phone. if i go and clear the app data new messages show up
My push notifications were coming through very quickly up until 2 weeks ago. I have not changed devices, carriers, or installed any new apps. One day they were coming through fine, now they are delayed by up to 30 minutes. My phone has not installed any OS updates either.
I have factory reset my phone, once restoring from cloud, the other not restoring at all and setting up the phone from scratch. This is really irritating. It does it on mobile networks or wifi.
Moto G is frustrating
It's frustrating.
I searched google without obtaining a solution. Moto G and sometimes I get delayed notifications and not others.
Facebook does not even make the notifications. In Whatsapp I have to open it every 2 minutes to see if someone has written. What not to do. I'm bored with this phone.
No solution or google and motorola solve it. Cursed kitkat!
Anything new? This problem is old and comes from the Nexus 4. I really am very sad about it, not PNF solving this.
I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. It definitely started after i upgraded my s2 to kitkat rom back in december. At first i thought it had to do with the PM sleep modes but none of them make a bit of difference. Ive goggled it to death and this thread is the only one ive found.
Currently im going to try the suggestion on the first page to turn off wifi optimization as my phone only does this on wifi. when i use mobile data everything works as expected
EDIT: WIFI optimization makes no difference
Push Notifications
I have faced this problem on both my S4 and S5 on sprint. I think it has to do with sprint closing open tcp connections prematurely, which causes push notifications to fail.
Running the app Root-Push Notifications Fixer, or Unrooted version has worked for me. The root version seems to be more reliable.

Curious if anyone has found a fix.
I had an issue the other day where SMS's wouldn't send, with the error 'No sim selected for SMS' or something like that. A reboot sorted it, though. (This is on a DUGL model)
Bump
Anyone... I mean anyone have a solution?
I'm thinking of doing the RUU as another member suggested however I'm kinda nervous about it. Both htc and Verizon keep blaming each other. Honestly it's really frustrating. I woild love to the the u12 but I just got the u11 and it works great... Outside of this issue.
Anyone have any roms that work maybe? Maybe I need to root the device?

Check your APN settings just to make sure everything is straight. The incorrect APN can screw things up. If you have another Verizon phone, compare the APN setup.

I can't change my apn... I've tried but it looks good
You have to be rooted to change the APN because you have to add 2 lines to the build.prop to allow an app like APN Settings to add a new APN. I have the same problem. My APN was slightly different from my wife's. And still you can't change an existing APN only add a new one and delete the old one. I've tried it all. I'll save you the trouble and tell you that didn't fix the problem. I have talked to Verizon and it shows on their end that I'm receiving the MMS message but it never shows in Android Messages just says it expired. If I push and hold on the it has expired message it shows received info. Did find a forum where people with the first Pixel phone were having the same troubles. Google released an OTA for that phone to fix the bug in Oreo but only in that phone. I can only think that this phone has the exact same bug, just my problem only presented itself a month after upgrading to Oreo. I have noticed if I open Android Messages and leave it running in the background and then use Verizon Messages+ to send myself a picture message (never had a problem with mMS on Messages+) and go to the recently opened apps list and select Android Messages the picture shows up no problem. But as soon as I make Android Messages the default messaging app I no longer get MMS messages.

March is exactly when my MMS stopped working. I went to a Verizon store where I know a guy that works there. I asked him if he could make sure my advanced calling features were activated on there end. He did something and said you're all set and gave me a new SIM. I activated it in my wife's old phone that had working advanced calling and mms messages. It didn't fix my problem, but there is a guy on here that swears by that fixng the problem. I have also seen where people have called Verizon and had them turn off their CDMA provisioning and that helped. I haven't tried that yet. I've basically have said F it, and I downloaded the top 10 messaging apps for 2018. I found one that works that I like called QKSMS. not real flashy but it's a newer app and he is still adding features as he can.

I will definitely try to keep this thread updated. I have spent hours as well to get things working and countless factory resets. I did notice that my apn settings don't have a MMSC which is suppose to be http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms as well as a mms port 80...so maybe the new Sim will correct that cause I can't
But as a recap so far I RUU back from 2.42.617.6 to 2.42.617.1, my next stop is new SIM with all goodies activated and ensure CDMA provision is off

Alright thanks. I've also ruued back to 2.42.617.1 and all the jazz. I am able to add new apns and manually put in the mmsc and port number. That never helped. My dad's Pixel 2 doesn't have a MMSC or port number but my wife's Moto G6 does.

I find that interesting... I'm surprised that mms is such an issues, carrier, os, or even manufacturer cause it's basic phone function since mid to late 200s!?
I so frustrated

What really blows my mind is why some apps work and some don't. I was digging around the database for message storage. I noticed when the message went through I would get one field that said something like vdn.wap.mms. if the message was never received it would show like http://random IP address/ servlets/MMS and at the very end would be msg_id=? It would also show in the pending field of the database.
