When I select the handwriting keyboard it pops up and I can enter text but it is not recognized and nothing is aded to the text field. I've rebooted, cleared cache, etc. but no joy. Anyone having similar problem or have a tip or fix? Tried the display at Best Buy and had same problem.

I see that this was a while ago now, but I wonder if you found a fix?
I have the Galaxy Note 3, which is great! Except, it's suddenly started to do the same thing. I can write and write in the Samsung Keyboard handwriting recognition pad but it never recognizes or converts it to text. The standard keyboard works fine, and handwriting recognition works fine elsewhere.
Anyone with any ideas? I'm stumped.

Hey. This isn't a big problem, as far as I can tell, but it is worrying.
In the Settings\Personal\Input area I can select all the input methods, however upon pressing "OK", nothing changes. Returning to the Input area shows that it's still set to "Keyboard". I initially thought the problem may have come about from me installing the blackstone keyboard, but after a full reset, wiping all data and programs, it still doesn't work the way it should. Any suggestions would be most helpful.
This confused me as well, but I figured out the solution to the problem. Go to a place where you could use an input method (like writing a text message) and from there change your input method. Then it will be changed.
no i think with most winmo 6 and 6.1 machine itll re load the microsoft keyboard evey boot there after
this app made by sleuth i think may help

Dude! It works beautifully! Still can't fathom why it didn't just do it in the menu, I mean what's it for then? I suppose must be there just to adjust settings and so on for the various input methods that you can then select from the popup menu when you're actually inputting things. Thanks for the help.
Hi all, been lurking for a while but thought I would finally post up.
Having an issue with my Nexus S on stock ROM v2.3.3. It isn't the same issues with the keyboard disappearing etc but it is an issue with the keyboard not inputting text when I type.
If I am typing a SMS reply to someone on my phone and I pause for a few seconds (to talk to someone for example) then I try to continue typing, the keyboard acts like its typing but does not actually type anything else into the message. The only fix I have managed to discover is exit the SMS so that a draft gets saved then once I go back into the message it works again.
Don't know if that is a clear enough description but if anyone else has any suggestions or even a fix for it then it would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Yeah I have that too sometimes. What also happens to me about every week is, that the smiley sections' and the (particularly important for me since I'm from Austria and using the German keyboard ü-ö-ä) special buttons and symbols' pop up extension (hard to describe, but I mean the thing that pops up when you put your finger on the expandable tile for like 2 second and which let's you select the unusual symbols from a list) simply will not pop up. So it would make it impossible for me to choose from the pre-created smileys etc.
I have found out that changing your input method to another keyboard (I use SwiftKey in these cases) and then changing it back Android keyboard make the problems disappear. But they seem to come back regularly and I haven't found out what causes them to appear...
Any help?
I flashed the no-wipe JB release (currently K3) from these boards on my S3. I was initially bugged by the persistent help tips on the lock screen, but eventually followed the suggestion of disabling the help app, so that appears to be gone. My biggest sticking point now is that the default Samsung keyboard does not work for me. When I select that keyboard, any attempts to type by swiping show the line following my finger movement across the keys, but no text appears. I can type by tapping. I do have T9 Trace selected in the keyboard settings. I also have Swype Beta 1.3 installed and working properly, so I'm fine with using that keyboard, but I would like to figure out what settings I'm missing in the default keyboard. I tried uninstalling Swype and re-flashing JB with no improvement. Has anyone else experienced this? DO you need any additional information or have any suggestions?
Thanks

I updated to 4.1.2 on OVA update and revieved many problems. I factory restored many of times to try to fix this problem. I dont want to use to the nnew Swype keyboard because I prefer the stock samsung keyboard. My t9 option is on but when I swipe, my swipe line appears but no text appears. It does add space though as if wrote more than one word. Ive tried cleari ng cache and data in thr application settings and still got the problem. I dont have continuous input option either for the samsung keyboard settings either. I need help too!

Hi,
Just got my unlocked Pixel 4a today. No custom roms or anything. Android 11. Build RQ1A.201205.008.
I'm a bit of a minimalist, and I went through the keyboard settings for messages (it had this little emoji bar thing that also did the predictive words I wanted to get rid of). Also in that bar was the microphone for voice to txt. When I shut off those unneeded options and turned the dedicated numerical row on, the microphone disappeared. I've tried resetting the options to the best of my memory, but it still isn't back to where it was, and the microphone is still gone.
There is another microphone in the preview box, but that is a tap-and-hold-to-send-a-recording microphone. Not what I'm looking for. That works.
I checked permissions, Gboard has permissions. I checked the keyboard settings, voice to text is enabled. Anyone know the 'magic combination' of options to get this back? I use it frequently!! I'd hate to have to reset-to-factory just to restore this one feature.
Thanks!
I finally found it after much headaches. It seems the voice to text microphone is part of the "suggestion strip" that is under "Text Correction". No idea why this isn't integrated into the keyboard as it's own icon as it's been in earlier versions of Android.
If anyone has any recommendations on how I can potentially make that integration and get rid of the suggestion strip, please let me know.
I tried to reproduce the missing voice2text mic that you reported and failed.
I went to Gboard settings > text correction then:
Disabled show suggestion strip
Disabled next-word suggestions
Disabled emoji suggestions
Disabled sticker suggestions
Going back to the keyboard, the suggestion strip/stickers/GIF/clipboard/settings and the mic were all gone.
I re-enabled all the above and the mic reappeared, along with the other stuff.
One thing you could try short of factory reset is to go to the App Info for the Gboard, force stop, and clear the cache. Relaunch the keyboard to see if it brought the mic back.

Looks like you resolved it. I think this design change was made a few cycles ago and am not aware of any way to re-integrate it. You could try SwiftKey to see if that has the feature you want.
I think installing a different keyboard can be helpful here. Have you tried to do it? To be honest, it was one of the most significant problems that made me change a model of my phone. I did have a Samsung Note, and the problem with the Gboard was repeating very often. I have been browsing different sites to find a solution, but was never successful in it. One day, one of my sisters visited me and took my phone while I was in the kitchen. She fixed the problem instantly, would you believe it? I came to the room and was surprised after she showed me it. She said she visited https://techplugged.com/5-best-solutions-to-fix-the-gboard-not-working-error/ and followed all the instructions given there. I have forgotten about the problems with Gboard for a long time, but there were other reasons for me to change my phone to the latest iPhone.
Hello,
for some time I have a weird bug or so? When I see a text field (a field where user can write on via keyboard) I cannot make GBoard open up.
I click on the field but the keyboard won't popup. I press the field by my finger and it shows up. How to make it to open via spen as well?
I have S22U UI 5.1

I seems like a GBoard issue. I use SwiftKey (beta) and the S Pen works as it should.

Every time you press the text field? For me as well but once the keyboard goes down (disappears) I cannot make it popup again - I need to use my finder on a text field.
I would guess it is related to spen features\bugs but resetting it didn't help though.
It started after I did something in options I think.

I though that as well - just installed swiftkey and the problem is the same - I need to use a finger to make it popup.
OK a small update - I think I got it.
Seems that Samsung keyboard can corrupt that function if handwriting is enabled/disabled. I needed to open/disable it for a few times in a row, then reset samsung keyboard settings. Now Gboard reacts to spen touches again - hopefully it will stays so and my happiness will not fall down.
Not gonna do that, but glad to know it's poor software and not incompetence, anyone tried to ask bixby to "set a 10 minute timer" only to be asked - "sure...how long should I set it for?" Modern technology

Thanks for the tip. I don't use Samsung Keyboard, so doing this if I start noticing issues won't hurt or cause me to lose anything.
