[Q] Gmail - Can I uninstall it? - HTC One S

I use k-9 for my email on my phone and like it more then the stock Gmail app on here. Is there anyway to remove it or just disable it?

You can disable it go to settings - applications - manage applications - all apps - gmail and the button is there

I am looking where you said and all I see is Force stop, uninstall updates, clear data, and clear cache. Move to phone is also there but grayed out.

Some roms give you the option to remove ANY app.

Uninstall updates first then the disable option becomes available.

if placed in the system uses titanium buckup app (you must have root permissions)

Default navigation app problem

Hello all. Ive been using my HOX a lot for GPS lately and there is something that is really bugging me. Whenever I open maps and choose a location for navigation it asks me what app I want to use. Im always asked either AT&T Navigator or Navigation. Even if I select the "Use by default for this action." option, it will ask me everytime. Is this happening on everyone else phone too? I greatly appreciate any answer.
Assuming you want to use the Google one, just go ahead and disable ATT nav (manage apps, all, disable). Sometimes if you have automatic updates on google play, the maps will update and you'll once again lose the defaut, so that's why is best to disable any other nav app.

Thank you, I will try that.
Well, I tried it and there is no disable option. Just Force stop and Uninstall Updates. Any ideas?

(Q)list of apps that can be frozen

What are the apps that can be safely frozen on ICS
Sent from my MB865 using xda premium
With ICS you can now "disable" apps from the app manager. If the "disable" icon is available to select, then it should be safe to do so. All disabled apps will be transfered to the bottom of the list.
I am curious, how do we disable apps in manage apps screen. I can see all listed apps but I didn't see any disable button there. Can some one explain as how to do this? Or as m I missing some thing here..
Edit: found it. Seems disable shows up for only system apps. Not the AT&T apps bloatware.

You can use Titanium backup to freeze apps.

Disabling is the same as freezing in ICS.

See the link below for guidance. But you'll have to experiment on your own.

How do I remove Movie Studio?

I'm basically purging all the useless applications i'll never use from a fresh install of CyanogenMod 10.1 Jellybean 4.2.2 and I can't find the .apk anywhere in the app folder. Does anyone know what the .apk is called so I can remove this garbage please?
Thanks.

Don't worry about finding the APK. You can unistall it using Titanium Backup or System Tuner or any of 100 similar apps to unistall it. In those options it will appear in the App list as Movie Studio and not whatever goofy name the APK file has.
You can also freeze it in the Manager Apps section of the settings. That won't delete it but will disable it competely.
Cool thanks. So far all i've done is go into Settings -> Launcher -> Drawer -> Hidden Apps and basically ticked that, will that do for the time being? Also, is Titanium Backup free and can I get it of the Marketplace?
Thanks.

No hiding it only removes it from the app drawer. It may still be running in the background.
There is a free version of titanium on the play store...using it you can uninstall or disable any app.
Hope that helps

That is 100% wrong. I just personally confirmed it. Disabling an app in the settings menu formally freezes it and makes it completely unable to run in any capacity until it is unfrozen.
Please don't post something as a fact unless you are certain its a fact. Posting wrong information will confuse new users and others searching for help later.

So am I alright keeping the method I used to hide it? Will that stop it from running in the background etc.? or do I still need Titanium Backup to remove it?
Thanks.
Disabling the app will render the app unusable until you re-enable the app. If you need to use the app sometimes then I would try the app greenify from the play market. Greenify simply hibernates the app.

Thank you for your question.
In batch uninstall mode, the system pop up will be shown on every app.
Android system doesn't allow us to uninstall an app without user's confirmation.

That's a real shame as there is a way. There is an app that's capable but it was never updated (silent app uninstaller for root users)

My app is for normal users, not for root users.
With un-rooted device, I'm sure there's no way to uninstall app without user's confirmation.
If we could uninstall app without user's confirmation, someone can write an application that delete all apps on your phone.
What do you think?
If one knows how things work...
Never mind, was just curious
Thank you for your feedback.

For the installed non-system app there are no disable option since generally they can be simply uninstalled (and reinstalled if needed).
maybe u can try and use a debloater app from the play store in ur case

In Android original design, pre-install app you can disable it.
However, there is only uninstall for the app you installed from app store.
You can refer the Nexus serious phone for this case.
If your phone has disable for "all" application, it's modified by your phone manufacturer.

Generally it's also possible to uninstall some non-system app preinstalled by the manufacturer or the network carrier (for. ex. some games or shopping apps).

On my Vibe Z2 Pro I have the option to freeze any app I select as well as I have the option to switch between open and secure profiles, so both run simultaneously as two separate OS's. I was hoping Mate 8 would have both options.
