yes we are at the same account
business plan
45$ for unlimited voice and 5GB data 4G
i'm afraid to call tmobile and ask them why my friend phone work great and my phone blocked and then they will block my friend also

Go to the development thread, they have a new fix that might allow free tethering, just involves an APN Change.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652084
Go to settings, mobile networks, Access Point Names, and then create a new one with the info in the linked thread. I havent confirmed it working, but it seems others have

That maybe because you're in a business account. On a regular account with a 5gb or 10gb data plan, you receive mobile hotspot for free.

This worked for me. Thanks!

how can i root the phone?
it will work better then with Tmobile system file?

someones gotta sticky that APN fix cause it's been working for me for 2 weeks now since the first thread lol

Apn fix stopped working for me this morning on nexus s. Worked at first and I directed ns users to this post but it seems the good old days may be over soon. Thanks for the fix.

I've seen the $15 for 200mb data plan.. I use average of 3gb a month so that's a no go for me..

The $15/month unlimited data feature is supposed to only be for QMP's (Quick Messaging Phones), since it's basically just a MediaNet perk.

You can try enabling the $15/mo plan by doing the following:
Find yourself a really old phone that has medianet capabilities. Put your sim card in it and wait a couple hours for ATT's network to recognize the IMEI. Go online and manage your account's features and change your data plan to $15/mo unlimited MediaNet plan. Take SIM card out, put in android phone and celebrate. I've done this trick before on other phones a while back and I'm not sure if ATT has fixed this bug or not but it always worked without a hitch and they never caught it.

same for me im runing 15$ data plan from way back when...upgrade to LG VU with 15$ unlimitedd data bcuz its a (multimedia pnone and not a smart phone) then in high baught a blackberry off of friend data worked, found an iphone 3gs 16 in venice tried to return to owner but it was locked, jailbroke it had it for a year, i had to change the APN with unlockit.co.nz. now i upgraded to Inspire with my sisters contract told them to switch numbers so i kept my old sim, still 15$ unlimited data but i had to search and manually change the APN on the inspire to get 3g to work. If anyone has that problem and needs help ill be glad to help you out
ive gotten the $15 unlimited data too, havent been caught yet

I had the $10 unlimited data plan with my fuse and tilt2 up until I upgraded to this phone last month. I'm confused as to why the letter says Congrats on your new inspire and offers me a dumb phone data plan and I'm secretly hoping it might be a loyalty or secret data plan haha. I still haven't called them yet but I will definitely update you guys once I do.
And you don't even have to wait a few hours to do the sim trick. Last time I did it, I just popped it in my old phone and called them and gave them the imei for that phone. Worked like a charm for 2 years until I had to upgrade and change my data plan to get this phone (which ultimately I got for free lol).

hahahah i'm sorry i'll do it first thing in the morning tomorrow, it's been a busy day. Tomorrow morning, I promise!
I have had this since 1997. The down side is that I had to do it with a WinMo phone for too long.

The long awaited update...but it won't satisfy.
So I called ATT a little while back (ironically I had an issue where I couldn't dial numbers for half an hour, even after pulling the sim, so I couldn't even dial ATT's number!). After I got that sorted out, I asked about the letter. I mentioned that it specifically says my name and phone (Inspire 4g) on it so it was directly mentioning my phone and not sent for another line in my family...all of us have smartphones anyways. she put me on hold for some time and came back and basically reviewed all the data plans with me (something i was already aware of......) and said they don't offer that plan. After a little more of bugging her that it was sent to ME with MY PHONE and said $15 unlimited data, she said that I can fax in a copy of it to customer service and that they would research it and get back to me within 3-7 business days.
Basically it's getting sent to someone else to review and research. I'llkeep you guys posted and see if i can wiggle my way into a custom data plan

Swapping services

So I had the Inspire 4G on AT&T and my girlfriend became an ex and now I don't have service. I was wondering if I can swap the ROM to a Verizon ROM and run it on their network. Please help.
Short answer, no. The long answer has to do with radio frequencies and technology used. For voice and 2G data you could use T-mobile. You may have a regional service provider option also. I do not know what is available in your area.
No you can't. ATT is gsm and Verizon is cdma. You could use it on tmobile if its unlocked but will only get edge speeds.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
Your best option is to sell the phone now, while its hot and get some good money off of it and buy another phone.
I personally am still pretty new to rooting and all but doesn't verizon have sim cards for their world phones?
Thanks for the information, I didn't think I would be able to. It is rooted but I need to do a complete wipe on the phone and return it to stock with root. Thanks for the help and hopefully I will be able to sell this with some scuffs on it. Maybe just try for $100 rooted.
or unlock it and use simple mobile... unlimited everything for like 60 bucks a month, ( and 3g ) no contract. but check coverage.. etc....
Why not do the most simple thing get a pay as you go phone. Swap the sim into the inspire. $50 unlimited everything. Don't try telling me it wont work either. I have used two different iphones and a blackberry on pay as you go. And dont try the different sim thing either. When I went contract they had me use the same sim. Just go get a cheap pay as you go phone register it swap the sim and try it out.
Buddy 3g won't work. The frequency bands are not compatible with tmkbile(simple mobile). Unless you got Att or a side branch that runs off at towers and signal, you will ONLY get Edge speeds end of story. Don't proven using tmobile and simple mobile.

Ok I tried to keep this nice but sense you you want to get rude about it. Let me let you in on a little secret, for the past few months att has been locking the prepaid sim cards to the phone by IMEI they are activated on for 6 months. The only way to have it unlocked is by calling them to get it unlocked in which case they want the imei of the new phone. They have also implamented the IMEI scan they do for the contract lines. So even if you have an older sim card that is not locked, After a while then will notice and data will stop working. Now How do I know this you ask? I just spent the last year as the Store manager for a local ATT retail store. So the next time you decide to be rude, you might want to take a min and think that maybe, just maybe you dont have all the facts.
And I do stand corrected on the pay-per use data. That was what it did before they started blocking it.

I had a mt4g glacier and I was able to use the hot spot for my kids itouch. But with the htc one s they keep getting a message that I have to sign up. Is there a work around ? Pretty much. We already pay for unlimited data, there's no reason we should have to pay to use it.
Basically, just go the the APN settings, and follow the steps above.

When I got the One S, I switched plans. The plan for my device is the 5gb plan ($25.00)
On twitter I saw a link to this page:
http://blog.t-mobile.com/2012/05/18/family-data-plans-not-a-one-size-fits-all-approach/
Customers who pay more, should get more. T-Mobile smartphone customers with 5GB or 10GB data plans also get our Smartphone Mobile Hotspot feature included. This means, with a capable T-Mobile smartphone (most are), customers can power up to five Wi-Fi enabled devices with fast, 4G data. So rather than needing to account for each device on a shared family data plan, customers can use their existing data plan to power multiple devices, while still saving hundreds of dollars annually.
So check your plan! I still modified the APN before I knew about this.

After you enter that, tap the menu button again and select save. When you tap save, it will take you back to the Access Point Menu. Select your new APN and you can now tether.
Other functions like picture messeges, etc, might not work while this APN is selected.

I have an old 5GB plan (on even more plus) that's $20(was a $25 plan but they are taking $5 a month because a manager outright lied to me). I was told if I want to tether I would have to pay $15 more. Further more, I was told anyone who wants to add tethering needs to be paying a combined total of $35 a month for internet and hot spot. So if you currently pay $25 a month, you'd have to pay another $10 to bring the total up to $35. What a ripoff. $15 more a month for something I'll use for a couple of hours.
I don't know if that's the absolute truth or not, seems every CS rep I speak to gives me different answers for everything. I've been lied to or misinformed by reps more times than I can count (including supervisors and managers). But I keep getting account credits at least!
MMS still works with the new APN. Also the ONLY reason this is ok in my eyes is that TMobile caps data. As long as I'm paying for 2 or 5 or even 10GB a month, they aren't going to tell me how I can use it. That'd be like a car company leasing you a passenger car and telling you you can't carry passengers unless you pay more each month for the privilege. It's ludicrous.

That's exactly it. There's a hidden setting in the locked T-Mobile APN that redirects you to the sign up page if you don't have tether, but the one you create doesn't have that setting, so you don't get redirected.

Ok i have prepaid with just talk and text. And people have told me, that i cant get unlimited internet. Is this true? Because i was planning on

Is there any way to get unlimited internet by rooting or is the rumor not true about not getting unlimited internet?

No rooting method for any device allows you to steal data. I've heard of counterfit SIM cards, but that's a different story completely.
Att doesn't offer unlimited data anymore and hasn't in a long time. Any prepaid service advertising unlimited data is lying. They all have a hard cap that they won't disclose

I'm guessing that what you've heard about is that rooting lets you tether without an additional fee (not have unlimited mobile internet). That means that, once you have paid for mobile Internet, you can use your phone as a wifi hot spot to share your mobile Internet from your phone to another device, like your computer or another mobile device. Usually, carriers make you pay extra for just the tethering capability, without giving you any extra data.

Is gophone a prepaid plan? Anyway, even so, you will need to pay for the unlimited data plan. Then, if you root the phone, it will be like any other phone, at least in that you will be able to tether a wifi hotspot.
There is no way to get free unlimited Internet just by rooting your phone. You will need to pay for a plan, prepaid or contract.
Please post all questions in the Q & A section. Thanks! Thread moved.

Anyway to become a mobile Hotspot?

I had my last phone work well with FoxiFi when I needed to use my tablet in the wild. Now, it appears KitKat (I believe) has this feature locked out. Any work aroinds here, rooted or not? I'm not brave enough to mess with SQL tables without knowing which one to change.

WiFi tether router in the play store. Look in q and a section.
My All New One
you could always use the verizon mobile hotspot. its a builtin app (cant remove it so might as well use it)
Maybe I should clarify a bit. Verizon charges to use hotspot. FoxiFi got around that issue. The WiFi tether app doesn't actually do anything other than access Hotspot.

What if a person doesn't have unlimited data? Should he pay...
And what if he is overseas and he is using a GSM carrier

If you're not on an unlimited plan, tethering isn't any extra. It's only an additional fee if you're still on unlimited (because Verizon sucks). Unless if you haven't changed your plan since they put that policy in place...and if you haven't, well, do so.
If you're overseas on a GSM carrier, why would you be using a Verizon device? Especially since the Dev Edition is available and can be S-OFF'd easily.

Mobile hotspot absolutely does cost extra on Verizon, even if you have a data-limited plan.

That's only for the "More Everything" plans. It costs extra for everyone else either as an add-on or a more expensive data tier.

From what I understood, unless if you're still on a grandfathered plan of any type (maybe specifically unlimited data grandfathered, I'm not sure), wifi tethering is supposed to be free. Unless if you have proof otherwise, I'm going to stick with my belief.
That being said, I still have unlimited data, and I'm only going to give it up when they pry it out of my cold, dead fingers, so regardless of their actual policies, it doesn't affect me. Besides, now that we have S-Off and full root, free tethering should be relatively simple once someone figures out how to do it, if it hasn't already been solved.

My "proof" is that it wouldn't let me enable the hotspot on my phone with my 10GB/month plan. You have to upgrade to their new plans for the free tethering.

Actually Verizon lost an FCC appeal for LTE, they must allow tethering for plans that are not "Unlimited".
Ask them for the provisioning if you are not on an unlimited plan.
