[Q] Slow viewfinder framerate for Camera - HTC Sensation

Anyone else notice the framerate in the camera viewfinder is kinda slow? Its immediately apparent when you move the phone in camera mode suddenly and you see the screen blur.
I compared it with my Galaxy Blaze and you can really tell the difference.
I have tried stock, ARHD ICS 6.6.4, and ARHD with the High Quality camera mod, all have the same problem.
Turning down the picture quality makes no difference (didnt think it would) since the viewfinder still displays the same thing.

Dark slow motion video recorder

Has anyone else experience this issue? Every time I go to record a slow motion video the screen gets dark. I can see the video but it's really dim and plays back really dim. This only happens indoors. When I first got the phone I just thought that must be the way it is. However, I installed a particular ROM on my girlfriends phone (HTC Amaze) and it has slow motion video baked into the ROM and it records perfect without dimming itself. Furthermore, it does it in 720p. So there must be a way to fix this in our One S phone's. Someone with enough knowledge please help.
Same thing happens on my One S running on Trickdroid 6.1.0

I noticed it right out of the box. So it has nothing to do with Trickdroid (FYI). But I know there is a way to fix this. I just don't know how to go about it...
Same here. Happened on stock Rom straight out the box. :/

That comes with taking a slo motion video. You need lots of light when taking them. This isn't a DSLR.
When you shoot in slow motion, you are taking pictures quickly. And when you take pictures quickly, light has less time to create an image in your camera. Shoot in lots of light otherwise you'll get the dark and gloomy.
I understand that our phones are no DSLR camera. However, my girlfriend's HTC Amaze can record in slow motion with no low light issues what so ever.. Obviously you didn't read my first post... And it records in 720p slow motion. Better then our One S phones. There is a fix or a camera.apk replacement somewhere. I could use her apk from her ROM but then if I did I'm sure I wouldn't have the "Continuous shoot mode" which I love.
i was using slow motion video thing on my sensation and it was greate one s have a big problem in this case also on new 4.0.4 update too

[Q] Camera Bug

I've been having problems with my back camera.. It can take pictures but randomly only shows a black preview of the picture taken and says "no thumbnail" for that picture or half of the picture shows gray or green colors only and also sometimes force closes.. Front camera works fine and I've already tried different camera apps and different roms but still facing this problem.. I've got no problems using video recording though that's why I think this is really weird..
Hope someone could help me out on this since I've got such an unreliable camera that is randomly usable for taking pictures which is really annoying..
I had same problem when I was on ICS but with front camera. I flashed JB and now it's not even showing black screen, it just crashes

I finally found out what is triggering my camera not to work properly.. When the device heats up that's when the back camera has issues (maybe since it is located on the upper part of the phone and that's where the phone usually heats up)..
Does anyone have an idea if this is hardware or software related?

720p recording is jumpy. Select 480 and your results will be much better.

This is the most well known bug of ICS and jb ROMs...it has nothing to do with the camera app itself...its something with the drivers/memory
So there is nothing you can do...except going back to GB :/

So the infuse needs a new camera driver? Or possibly better memory allocation?
I might have this slightly wrong because I'm not able to access my notes at the moment but the problem is this:
Our camera (and most others) works by generating, dumping, then starting a preview again. When it records (after the restarted preview), it should enqueue "empty" buffers that should then be written to (as it records). That written data is released through the codec, allowing the buffer to be released from the queue so it can then be enqueued again to be written to (it's the circle of life, camera-style!). This has to happen quickly enough for "clean" buffers to reenter the queue, but for some reason that doesn't happen. Instead, the function that should be removing buffers from the queue is failing. Finding out why this is happening is extremely difficult because there are so many places that could be failing. Samsung have given us bum code (or none in the case of the camera hal) - or, to be precise, they've given us generic Linux drivers, that don't always reflect customizations they've made. I suspect that the problem is partly in the codecs and partly in the construction of the camera hal.
Anyone who knows about this, when I was looking over the manufacturer's sheet for what I think is our camera, it looked like the problem might be in the implementation of fimc_v4l2_reqbufs in the camera hal. According to that sheet, there is a relation between that and fimc_v4l2_dqbuf that, if improperly implemented, would cause fimc_v4l2_dqbuf to fail.
THANKS! for the in depth analysis. I think I can help narrow this problem down. After reading this I think that problem may lie with the initial buffering portion. But I think that i'm assuming this prematurely. First i'm assuming that recording only applies to video and not snapshots (Camera doesn't seem to flicker when only taking pictures, even at high resolution). Second i'm assuming that camera features and filters will require an extra amount of buffering to work correctly (not only is 720p a problem, but different snapshot scenery effects don't work at all).
Another thing i noticed is that 720p recording flickering is proportion to the amount of light you have. A dim room records video at 720p with little to no flickering while a very bright lit room flickers like crazy. Snapping pictures in any light works fine with the exception of camera features.
Light sensors are part of the recording apparatus (part of the camera) and 720p requires higher light sensitivity so...
Increasing the buffers doesn't really make a difference. I made some experimental builds to test. The prob is in the flow of data. Somewhere there's a blockage.

Nougat and Low Light Performance on Main Camera

The focus on my camera died the morning after I got Nougat. I turned it in to T-Mobile for a refurb.
The refurb is garbage on so many fronts but worst of all the low performance of the main camera mode is atrocious. Even in shadows in decent light it is super dark. I can correct it with manual mode but if I take the same shot with the wide angle camera, it's super bright. The two cameras are night and day. It's a frustrating experience.
I'm trying to determine if Nougat screwed up the camera's low light or if this refurb just sucks.
*update*
Factory reset fixed everything. Not sure why factory reset fixed the low light performance of the camera app's automatic mode, but it did. Hopefully this will help anybody else who runs into this extremely random issue.
