Favorite ROM for Stability and Battery Life - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I realized there hasn't been a topic on this for the Skyrocket. After experiencing the bugs on ICS roms I needed to find a rom that will get be as stable as a rock. I am currently using NexusMoD GB 4.3 and I find it to be very good. My battery life on it has been OK not that great. It seems to me that the ICS roms where running just fine for the most part for me, even battery life was decent, but I had weird bugs where I wouldn't receive SMS or Calls, and my texts would say they sent but they wouldn't even actually send. This would happen at random times even though it worked most of the time. Any favorite stable roms guys?

I found the mhx superlight GB release works great and has good battery life.
for me stability and battery mod on status bar were my requirements and mhx achieves both.

SKY ICS
For me it is the most stable. Great Battery. GPS works great. Camera is fantastic.

Sky ice works really well, the battery life for me was 60% better than stock. Running latest ics leak now, more stable but battery life is down (compared to sky ics).

+1 on MHX-SUPERLITE 3.1 GB rom.... best battery life on any GB rom I've run... never had a S.O.D.... no FCs... very stable and fast. Average 6hr "screen on" time with 18-20hrs on battery time. This is with JD disabled.

Stock.

For my money, Sky ICS has been extremely good.

I've been using the same ROM you are using. I've found that battery life has been pretty consistent among all the ROMs, which is to say sadly, not very good. It works pretty well overall with just a few hiccups here and there. I have had numerous issues with various ICS ROMs. I tried 3 of them (including SkyICS) and they either didn't run well, or in one case it just plain didn't work at all. That's why I went back to a GB Rom. YMMV but if I were you I'd stick with your ROM until ICS gets a formal release and see what the community does with that.

The only thing wrong, is camera is colored weird not useless. YouTube works fine colors are wack. I got the first R2 release. Not the second one that broke wifi. And really the rom is fairly stable considering it isn't meant for att sr

I love me some Nexus mod gingerbread. I will probably go to ICS when the official kernel gets released.

Great question to be asked again even if for the 5,000,000th time. I am DJ ICS fan, hands down most "stable" and it is very fast with great battery for a 1.7ghz rom.

I've had my beloved skyrocket for about 5 months now and have flashed/used about 12 ROMs. Pretty much across the board, battery is god awful. The latest Sky ICS by SeanZ seems to improve battery by roughly 20% on my specific handset. Overall battery is pretty shabby.

Use the latest radio 1.48.00.0609w_1, 0.01.76.0609w_2.
Sense or aosp, I suggest imoyesons leankernel or jdkoreclipes kernel. They both make sense and aosp kernels and both are top notch.

Love mine, though I have very poor GPS performance and so-so battery life when I first got it in the April timeframe. Since then, the various ROMs have improved it to the point that I don't even care what's coming out now. I'm running BAMF SoaB 1.03 with the latest radio and it's great.

I came from a Droid X and can say that the Thunderbolt is a better phone. I have a few annoyances with it but mainly how it works or doesn't work with Ford Sync. The battery is depressing but I don't want the bulky extended battery. I have Juice Defender on it now and that has helped immensely through the day. I had 54% left on my battery after 8 hours at work with light usage. Before that I was at below 30% after 4 hours. I may still get an extended battery just for when I travel, but this works for me around town.
where would I find soab? Looked everywhere

Google it. You need to go on a BAMF forum. I dont think they post here.
oh, thats what I tried. Ill google it again
in short, what setup would provide best battery life based off experience amongst thunderbolt users?
Start with the SOAB with the stock kernel, so that you have a baseline then you can try Adr's test 3 or Imo's kernel to see if they make much a difference or not.
I don't think you will get a definitive answer without trying each out on your own phone and objectively seeing which one works best for you and your particular phone.
Good luck.
I agree. Ive been around android for three years and what works best for me does not for everyone else. I was looking for an experienced based answer. The bolt I bought already has soab on it.
Gotcha. I'm using SOAB with Adr's test 3 kernel. Works great for me because I can overclock now, but battery life is about the same as it was with the stock package SOAB kernel.
I've been getting great battery life on SoaB, starting with 1.02 and now on 1.03 since it was released and the kernel that comes with it. Prior to that I was using Eaton GTP, the Froyo build, and it gets phenomenal battery life. Can't wait for them to get their Gingerbread build with Sense 3.5.

if you want insane battery life on soab flash the ziggy kernel beta one and set cpu low to the lowest setting andturn off gps and wifi and mobile antennas when not using them. i was getting 2% drop per hour this way. i went from 8 am to 8:30 pm with no charging and still had 72% battery life left also i overclocked to 1.2.
right now i am on miui wich is sick once they fix the mms it will be amazing. but i am using advanced task killer set to automatically kill apps when the screen turns off and green battery to do the same with the wifi and mobile anteannas.

I would stick with what you have for a short while longer.
UCLA 2.3.6 update just hit, so lots of ROM's will go through wipe-only updates and new ROM's will be released.
SkyICS is the flashiest, coolest ROM IMO that still manages to be stable and quick.
RedSonja is a bit more blah (aside from cartoons) with the theme and tricks/gimmicks/addons, but looks like it was just rebuilt for UCLA 2.3.6 update. So if you have to flash something, that is the one I'd try right now.
I'm digging NexusM0D 3.0 after trying a couple of different ICS-Themed ROM's.

I like the stability of SkyIce 7.4 Lots of eye candy. Right now using StokMod-2-UCLA3, hoping that ICS will be released soon. I Wipe about once a week just for the variety. Only Bricked the SkyRocket i727 once before the 30 days was up.
Wish I would have waited for the note.
Personally I prefer the Tmob roms. The ones here feel pretty much all the same to me too imo. There are some pretty interesting ones over there like Tuesday, Juggs and ParadoxII. Really nice themes and features too. You just need to flash our kernel or else your rotation is all outta wack. I find there is more action over there. Although the roms we do have might be less original they are pretty rock solid.(props to our devs) The only downside to the Tmob is you lose the LTE icon (still getting the speeds just no icon changing) which I couldnt care less

Ginger bread vs sky pics battery life?

Reason for this question is because I'm currently on the lastest leak ucle2 and my battery life is horrible. I would just flash and try it out but not completely comfortable with flashing roms. Any input would be really appreciated. If this topic has already been brought up sorry. I searched maybe not enough.

Battery life has been a present issue with the ICS leak so you are by far not the first one asking about this. My suggestion would be try out either CM9 or AOKP and see if your battery improves any because in my experience, I got much better battery life on CM9 and AOKP over any other ICS ROM. To flash is very easy just follow the directions in the OP and you will be rocking in no time at all
Great battery life on GB rom

This is my battery life with Sky ICS 4.2E-6. Light usage, strong cell and wifi reception. Probably could've been better if I uninstalled Kik and Line (they seem to wake up the device very often).
Usually, it's much worse during the weekday when I'm at work, where my cell and wifi reception both suck.
I ended up flashing sky ics and I have to say battery life is definitely amazing over ics ucle2 leak.

CM9 or AOKP?

what do u use and with what kernel? and what is the best set up?
You can't have other people choosing for you! lol everyone will have their opinions and liking towards different roms. I personally go for CM9 + InstigatorX's kernels. Some people go for AOKP or Chimaira other AOSP based and use Instigator's kernels. From there you have to choose which version or which governer is to your liking, if you prefer a certain setting like performance ones or power saving ones etc...
As for CM9 and AOKP I am an avid CM9 user but have used AOKP before. AOKP has a lot of customization right out of the box, CM9 is going from the ground up so they add features slowly and is constantly update almost once a day. AOKP they release one update every say 10-15 days~ and occasional milestone which will have more features than fixes. I like seeing updates gradually come and look forward to them on a daily bases thats why I stuck with CM9 and I like it for its stability. I've had a few FC's on the older AOKP but those are probably gone now with the latest milestone but features and readily available tweaks, the unicorn has them all (AOKP). I would personally make a nandroid back up and test them out yourself to see if its to your liking. My preference may not be the same as yours so its each to their own. :good:
Thanks for the reply bro, just wondering what the peeps on here were using, I think I'm going to stick with cm9, I really dig it, but I was wondering what kernel should I add, its a big mess with a bunch of releases on that forum lol

I would go with 4.0. I was having trouble with my phone looping when I put on UCLF6 modem, I switched to the newest kernel and everythings been smoother. I would also say don't be afraid to try things out. Usually you will know what you like and don't like after you test a few configurations.
Just backup and keep multiple versions of the kernel in your SD so you can switch just in case it fails to boot. I'm currently using 4.0 badass underclocked to 1.1ghz when idling/light use and use smartassv2 when I play games.

I use Chimera RC2 and it is amazing with InstigatorX kernel. Had some trouble getting it to run at first but finally got it to run. As for setup, I prefer performance so I am working on getting it to stabilize with 1.7-1.8 OC. I am still testing governors and UV settings but SmartassV2 benchmarked pretty damn high compared to badass and ondemand.
RC3-(Official?) should correct issues and may be released today

In my humble opinion, CM9 tends to be a touch more stable than AOKP. But remember AOKP at its essence is CM9 with extra features thrown on, so it's bound to have the potential for a few more bugs. But both are very stable and won't give you any more issues than any other ROM really. Basically it's a question if AOKP's features are something you feel you want. I recommend spending about a week with both and then deciding.

In my opinion, Clean ROM is the most stable ROM available. I have been running 2.1 for a while and just updated to 2.5 with out any problems or crashes. I highly recommend! Scrosler is the bomb!:good:
I've gotta throw a vote in for Jellywiz... It's not the greatest on battery life, but it's a great daily driver.
I also liked Synergy ROM as well.
CleanROM for touchwiz, AOKP for AOSP jellybean.

My favorite so far for Jellybean has been Jellywiz, but it was a little buggy for my taste last time I ran it. The hot reboots were killing me.
Daily driver right now is CleanROM 2.1 with Clean Kernel 1.2, Dirty Tweaks 2.3 and Kinda Crap Mods. Best setup I've had over the past month, and really gives me the functionality and feel I like. I've flashed other stuff and keep restoring CleanROM.
But, you gotta try them out for yourself.
I gotta jump in here and spread some aosp love!! Paranoid 2.13 and Codename Android 3.6 are fantastic daily drivers. Ive been using CNA since Sunday. Super smooth, lots of customization, theme chooser, new SMS/MMS pop up,, etc...
When paired with lean kernel battery life is definitely do able!
You should at least give them a try!!

I've been running synergy since day 1 and been lovin it, had it on my dinc as well, amazing battery life, superb performance and no reception problems at all. currently using cm10 and have the same mod for changing songs via the volume rocker.
Overall i like the AOSP based roms best. The just tend to have a number of things not work or work well (GPS, audio issues, strength of signal, etc...). The TW ROMS are best with the stable releases, unless you like testing with daily.
I have most success doing complete wipes and a regular flash to stock when i hit weird issues.
CleanROMS are really fantastic, Beans is VERY innovative (just unstable on my phone), CM10 is great but will really come into its own when the issues are fixed.
Keep in mind that what is stable on one phone may not be on the next.

I am still pretty new to this however, a little background. I just switched over from drinking the Iphone cool-aid. Ever so thankful that I did! Im running AOKP Build2. I love it however the battery life eats it big time. I see everyone talking about Clean Rom and I think that is about what I want. Am I understanding correctly that Clean Rom is pretty much bare bones? All I care about is "Butter" and battery life! Thanks in advance from a noober!
My favorites due to reliability and use as a daily driver. Haven't had any issues with these gems:
Synergy - whatever the latest ICS touchwiz version is. (Using Imo's LeanKernel)
Code Name Android - whatever the latest version is. (Using KT747 Kernel)
+1 to CodenameAndroid. The sh*t is BEAST! I've always kept restoring back to Synergy because I never was truly satisfied with any other Rom. With CNA I've never even thought once about going back.
