Raving with the One X (video/camera performance, durability) - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

To me, a rave is the ultimate test of phones. So naturally I had to see if the HOX was up to the task.
Here's some video I took with it at Bassnectar. Overall I'm happy with the quality. It's almost impossible to take good video there, mostly because of the overwhelming sound / lights / fog etc. The only issue I've had as far as recording performance would be the focus. I noticed it wasn't responsive / accurate to focus automatically so I had to constantly tap to focus, which became more difficult throughout the night. The audio quality seemed on par with my previous Galaxy Note at raves.
And this is after 8 drinks and a couple other things:
Walked outside of the venue and I somehow managed to drop it at chest height onto the pavement (no scratches on the screen!!!) I think it hit on the corner. I see some tiny tiny nicks in the polycarb, but the color is still very white so you can barely tell.
Pretty awesome night though. I've now seen 120 DJs. I have a list I have about 6 or so more videos I took with it on my channel. We'll see how it does at EDC in Vegas here next month.

And here's a picture of me (center) if anyone wanted to know what I looked like haha.

For comparison here's the Galaxy Note's video performance. Same venue/distance to the sound system/set volume. I think there was a little less bass in this track though.

Glad to hear it. I've been listening to it since I was about 11. Been going to raves since I was 18. I've been practicing DJing but won't touch production until I get my hands on Logic.

Looks good!

Holly crap, Note is how long now? it's video is WAY better then One X...the sound is crappy though, but hey, picture quality overpowers the sound IMO

Totally not the right forum to perpetuate this conversation... but I'm a DJ myself and have been dipping my toes in production lately. Try out Ableton Live. I used to use it for making "mix tapes," but recently got some MIDI keyboards/pads to use with it's synths/sequencer. It's pretty amazing.

My camera is buggy . Video crashes

I really just think it's the auto focus issue. When in focus, the one x seems to do a better job with the video. Audio seems on par with the Note

I switched to the vignette app from the market and I think the pictures are better with this app than the built in software.

I love bassnectar cool vid, I also dj and produce with ableton and I'm glad the quality is this good for a phone. check me out at soundcloud.com/iseph-1

[Review]SOL Republic Tracks Ultra V12

Another review on some new headphones I just got in today. If you seen my past threads here, I have reviewed a pair of SOL Republic Tracks HD, where this is the upgrade of that.
Having said that, I have some experience in breaking these in. I have not properly done so, but I don't think it needs too much longer to do so. The Ultras sport only in one color, blue and white. Not a bad color combo, but wish there were some other ones to choose from. I did like my white ones.
As you see in the pics, they toned down the packaging and slimmed it down, which is good for the recycling gods . Next you see the cans or sound stages as they call it. They are memory foam type ear covers which are NIIIIIIICE and soft lol. What I did notice about these cans are that the "SOL" logo is now etched rather than painted on,which is cool I guess, but subject to more scratches IMO. It is titanium like the Tracks HD, but with just that little modification. Not bad per se, just different, which I like...
Next is the headband. Nice clear-ish, moderately transparent headband that is very Tron like IMO, not a bad thing either, I like Tron lol....
Now the other difference I see in the components comes in the form of the headphone cord. It's tangle resistant, but I feel a bit softer than the Tracks HD cord. This is not a bad thing, again, just different. Not sure why they changed that up.
With the cord plugged into the Sensation, my powerAmp fired up like it's supposed to (LOVE powerAmp btw) and started playing the Laser's album. Great album to test out the base and to break them in. The cord has the mic and buttons that are "i" certified but not "a" certified lol. Let me tell you that the mic works fine when pulling up google now by longpressing the button and asking if it will rain tomorrow.
I also use the jays headset app to control volume with the center button too. Now any long press brings up google now, I had to adjust my settings for two short taps for volume down and three short taps for volume up. Kinda annoying, but that's what I got to work with. If anyone knows of a better app to control the volume, please let me know. :good:
Ok, now the sound. How does it sound? Pretty awesome! Better than the Tracks HD? Yes! Is it worth the upgrade? Well if you have the Tracks HD and are more than happy then no. But if you can sell your Tracks HD for a good price and get these at an awesome price, then YES lol.
I mean the bass is a itty bitty on the bass-heavy side. Yet again, NOT a bad thing. They are not overly bass heavy so it's perfect for me.
Now I have been listening to this album for over two hours and working and I have to say is awesome. I adore these headsets. I wear glasses and these on ear headphones are a delight to wear.

whoa!
Wow, I've seen a couple of these on the streets around town, but I didn't know that's how you assemble the earphone driver assemblies to the headband!
Totally blown away :cyclops:.
And I really liked your review too, you should put it up on head-fi.
Love my HD's, have four different cords and headbands for them. Considering getting the Ultras soon. Nice Review!

Now having them for a while, I can say the clarity is there, but the Bass is a bit less than the HD's. If you like the HD's bass, then stick with them. IMO it's not worth the upgrade if you are happy with your HD's and enjoy your bass.
For me, I enjoy clarity and like to hear the ranges, I just like it clear-er then normal, but that's personal preference. If clarity is what you want, sacrificing a bit of bass, then these are for you, but if you are absolutely happy with the HD's then I'd say stick with it.

[VIDEO] Samsung Galaxy S4 vs HTC One (in car footage, front and rear cam)

Hey guys...
Here is a little video test that I did. For the HTC One, hardware stabilization was enabled. Software stabilization on the S4 was off due to possible distortion. If you want a retest with it turned on, please let me know. Quickly looking through the S4 menus, I didn't see any lock focus option. Anyone know if it exists? The HTC One has the option, however it was not turned on.
Other devices I have are the Note 2, iPhone 5, and Optimus G Pro. We can add any of those to the mix.
EDIT:
Software stabilization turned on for the GS4. Does anyone know if this actually use pan and zooming to stabilize the image? I'm guessing it does and there is no other way to combat shake.
EDIT:
On my trip to Colorado I added a low light test. I was pretty drowsy. Just woke up from a rest stop nap!
EDIT:
Tried to let the HTC One redeem itself in the audio department. No cases and subject (me) is in front of the camera. No bouncing the sound off of a windshield. It is definitely quiet than the S4, but turn up the volume and let me know what you think.
The gs4 looks better to me, it has more colors - look at the backseat of the car.
However the HTC one has a bigger FOV.

Lol is that a reference to his new commercial with the car salesman?

Gs4 has better color accuracy than htc one. However htc one OIS certainly comes into play very well
Sent from my GT-I9500
Tomorrow morning, I'll switch the settings for software stabilization on the GS4 and make sure there is nothing on the windshield *DOH*.
Added a test with software stabilization turned on.
If it is like the Optimus G Pro, it crops the image a bit so it can use that extra space to stabilize the image (pan and zoom).
One looks overexposed - an obvious trade off there. And the sound seems better with S4 too - you didn't alter any settings I'm assuming?
Overall, like S4 better - except for the One's wide angle - really love it.
Didn't modify anything sound or video wise. Double checked the Vegas file.
By the time they go to the standalone tests they are on the same audio and video track.

EDIT:
The circled icon would be in a teal color if any filters / plugins were used.

HTC One E8 - First impressions: Premium device disguised as a mid-tier phone

I've had the HTC One E8 for just over a week now and I am thoroughly impressed. The device has a premium display and chip-set at a mid-grade price. The curved edges of the poly-carbonate (plastic) back plate makes this device easy to hold without losing its visual appeal. On the back you will also find a 13 MP camera with a single tone flash. The face of the phone contains a 5 MP Selfie camera, 5” HD display, and two front facing speakers. The “Boomsound” front facing speakers can push out a great deal of sound without losing any sound quality.

Another amazing feature of this phone is Sprint Spark. If you have not had a chance to try out Spark you might be blown away by the data speeds you will see. This was my first time trying out Spark and I could not believe how much faster it is then my cable internet speeds. Check out Spark availability in your area.

How is the phone after a few weeks of usage?
How is the battery life?
What is the Android version on it? Did it get 4.4.3?

The battery life is pretty good and typically lasts me the entire day. Also good to know that I am always playing with it so you might get way better battery life then I do. The US Sprint version comes pre-loaded with Android 4.4.2.

I have had my phone for a few days, and I have to say that I am impressed with the quality of this device for the price I paid.
Sound/speed is much better than my old Galaxy S3.
Multitasking is a snap, and I kind of like the HTC Sense UI.
Thinking of rooting this device, have you had the chance to root yet?

Many of us in India have rooted it, you can find the threads in the dev section and Q&A's also.
Running smooth, and yes , a great phone overall...
cheers.

Share and Discuss your best GS7E photos!

I have to admit, while I like the camera, I feel like my S6 Edge runs circle around the S7 Edge's camera.
However my mind completely changed once I went into the back of my complex with no light and took this shot. Long Exposure.
1st and 2nd Pic is from GS7E

I would also say that I don't see any major improvement form the s6. Maybe it's just me.

Mooooo
Kinda low light
The watch cow
Uploading to xda degrades the quality alot
Camera seems to do just as good as my Note 5 in regular light, maybe a slight bit more grainy when zoomed in. The difference is all in low light and capturing shadows and such. Big improvement.
If the Note 6 can retain the 16MP from the N5 , and also keep the dual pixel from this, it will have a lot of potential.
Scanning documents in artificial light is a big improvement. Especially with optical image stabilization. My barcode reading app finishes decoding before I finish getting the phone in position to read it.
Coming from the s6 edge to the note 5 and now to the s7 edge there are some improvements. Biggest comes from low light pictures. A lot of pictures I use to take in artificial light or low light would always come out grainy now it comes out much better and pics at night, you can actually tell what you are seeing in the pictures. Also the speed of the shutter seems faster or at least the auto focus speed. Makes a significant difference when trying to get a good shot in a pinch.
completely unedited. Amazing camera almost as good as my DSLR.

Took this while driving on the expressway/highway/whatever you call it where you live, going about 85 mph.
I took these pictures at the AZ Desert Botanical Garden a few nights ago... no flash. They have a special exhibit going on right now with all this special led lighting at night. No filter or effects on any of these pictures...
Very nice!

The zooming in is lacking. But only had to take one photo. Shows what I need. Even the rain drops.

Which one is it supposed to look like? I like the one on the left better, but, I obviously have no idea which color is accurate.

They’re both pretty accurate honestly, neither captured it perfectly and it also carried slightly when I was looking at both pictures on each phone due to the screen having different characteristics. All that said, iPhone came out more accurately on this one.

Sadly, this is all I have right now. Wanted to test low light so just took a picture of my pixel boxes with the light off and just the computer screen glare...
Just got my new charging station setup up at work and had to snap a quick pic. Changed the aspect ration to 16x9 and threw one of the stock photo app filters to something that fits my tonal taste better but otherwise untouched. I'm really excited about my charging station though!
I love the quality but I'm disappointed they did away with numerical zoom level on the slider. I like to know how much I've zoomed (1.3, 2X etc)
Here is the first one I took out of the box
Pictures in order
1: iPhone XS Max w/ Flash
2: iPhone XS Max w/o Flash
3: Pixel 3 XL w/ Flash
4: Pixel 3 XL w/o Flash
I’ll reserve my comments for the most part though I think one is a clear winner. Disappointed with the other.

Took this to see how well it does at a concert. This is also using the zoom
Here's a few I just took at 3:00 am while walking my dog.
All the way zoomed in.
Impressed with the low light performance so far.
Does it happen to anyone? When I tske close up pictures, it struggled to focus far more than my old pixel 2xl.
Impressed with the zoom quality too. This is zoomed in pretty far and still looks pretty crisp.
