[Q] WiFi on Genesis BETA8 - T-Mobile LG G2x

I've been actively following Mr. Apocalypse with his Genesis ROM. It's masterfully done and full of great features. As I understand its still in beta, however, the WiFi worked on BETA7 and not on BETA8. Has anybody else had this issue?
EDIT: After some time of trying to connect, it gives me a "Avoided poor Internet connection" under the SSID I'm trying to connect to.

Need to tell us what you have done. Installed a custom kernel wipe or no wipe? Could've posted this in the rom section by the way, should be there in the first place.... unless your post count is to low I can't tell since I'm on my phone. If it is I apologize in advance.

Its cool man. Yeah, I'm a first time poster but long time reader. I installed Genesis BETA8 following the instructions on the page, full wipe and everything. However, I did try to use Harshs' kernel and that seems to be the problem. I wiped and reinstalled using the stock kernel and everything works like it should. I'm just wondering how some people have no issues with the kernel and I do.
Sent from my LG p999 from RIGHT BEHIND YOU!

Ya I installed it to see if I would come across the issue with stock kernel and I've nothing of the sort. Glad you got it though. Try installing a different kernel (same one maybe older though) and see if you have the issue.

With Genesis, you might have to flash Harsh kernel after and separate from the Aroma installation. If that was the only thing you've done differently, after installing stock kernel, just flash Harsh after.

Kernels are flashed, just like rooms through CWM, right? Just making sure I understand this right.

Just wipe cache first nothing else, and yes like a rom, besides what I just said.

Cool. Thanks for the help.
EDIT: Dude, it worked. I now have Harshs' kernel and everything still works. Brilliant!

ROM Manager

Hey I was just browsing the market and decided to invest in Rom manager (used it religiously on my old Droid 1). Lo and behold we don't even have a cwm listed!
What needs to be done to have some of these roms I see on this board listed in that App?
Thanks and sorry for the noob question. (We need a Q and A board.)

You really should've looked a little as it's mentioned a billion times, BUT...
Just install CWM for the Galaxy S i9000, works perfect.

You would want to check all 3 if it is your first flash, that way if something goes wrong you have a backup to restore, and the other two need to check because they are cache for your original rom, not the new one.
It's worth doing the backup of your stock setup.
Wiping the data isn't necessary unless you are a stickler about starting "fresh".
Dalvik cache wipe never hurts.

If you are coming from stock, you need to wipe all. It can cause issues, i have seen it. You get lots of force close, stuff that is removed from stock would still be there, which could also cause problems. Its better to do a full wipe when going from stock to a custom rom, and when switching custom roms.
I think I made a mistake, it reboot into recovery and I guess I was to wipe data and cache then reboot into cyanogen rom, but I did not wipe data and cache, Now it froze on me. What can I do, Did I just brick my phone?

[SCRIPTS] [Updater-Scripts] EFS-backup, Clean_Wipes, Wifi Fix

Hey Guys. (THESE HAVE ONLY BEEN TESTED BY ME ON GB 2.3.6)
I have put together a collection of updater scripts for my own use. I think they will be helpful.
They are a work in progress...I may need some more testers or feedback.
I wasn't sure if these belonged in the Themes/apps or Q/A. I guess mod can move if appropriate.
If more needs come up, I can try to fix or do something else.
1. The EFS_Backup will back up your EFS into a tar file that can be restore via Odin, Heimdall or extract/copy/paste in the even you lose your EFS on a bad flash. It will be handy to have. I know it works because I tried it several times. You only need 1 or 2. It will make a file on your /SDCARD/EFS_BACKUP/
2. Clean_Wipe: This contains multiple layers of delete of old systems files, data files, cache files, dalvik files and any other left overs from a previous ROM. Hopefully flashing this before you flash a ROM will wipe all traces of previous ROM to give you a clean slate. This will not erase your SDcard or microSD card.
DO NOT FLASH THIS unless you are ready to flash a ROM or have a ROM on your SDcard. If you tried to reboot without flashing a ROM, all you will see is a pretty bright white Samsung logo.
Ideally this will eliminate the need to jumping around in CWM trying to manually erase everything.
3. Bluetooth_fix. Ideally this would restore the infuse BT function bases on UCLB3 files. Flash it. Fix permission and reboot. It seems to work for some but not others...I don't know why yet. This is tested on INFUSE NATIVE ROM only..I DONT BELIEVE THIS WILL WORK ON MIUI or CM7. I have no idea what that will do. If I get more understanding, I will make revisions if needed.
4. Wifi_Fix: After flashing some ROMs, some people have wifi issues. Dropping etc. I have suspected that it is due to left over from previous ROMs or problems with multiple writes during cache build. I'm not sure. I have not had this happened to me over some many attempts to borked it. I wrote this up as an attempt to delete the broken configuration and force a new file generation.
I tried it on mine and it does just that. However, not being broken before, I can't tell if if will fix your borked wifi connection. The current best fix is reseting your router or changing the DHCP time - which in essense, forces your phone to produce a new configuration. This may save you a walk to your router log in and changing the DHCP.
edit: (3/28/2012) This may not fix more long standing wifi issues some users are having. It may fix the log on/drop off scenario.
Again...my disclaimer is that this is for development purposes. I have tried them all...I can make no warranties on them or their safety on your phone.
I hope you can find them useful.
Feedback is welcome...good or bad...so I can learn some more.
I like the practicality this has.

Thanks..one more confirmed working.
The idea I had in the wipe script is that sometimes a complete wipe is not needed. One may want to save some data. In vagabond, I had put in complete wipes to ensure first time installation success... that got tedious after frequent set ups when I was testing. If I set up another build, no wipe will be in the ROM. The end user can decide. I thought this would be useful for others as well switching between ROMs without the hassle of navigating in cwm.
thanks qkster
the Clean Wipe is it just a faster way to wipe data/wipe cache/wipe dalvik? is it better then going odin or Heimdall?

It's faster than trying to jump around in cwm wiping everything. It will ensure a 99% clean..I'm leaving the last 1% for the idk moment. For most instances, it will suffice.
I use Heimdall or Odin only when I need to fix a boot loop, system file error, partition corruption or if I thought the problem came from using a froyo base with a gb rom.
I really like this idea. The wipe file is genius.

I didn't think the gapps were platform specific. Please correct me if I am wrong but I thought they were universal and more architecturial specific. Divided up into 3 key factors; Android version, architecture, and CM7 build. Not p999, p990, etc. I could be very wrong. If that's the case, I am sorry aand could you provide a link?
The gapps version I am using is 20110828.

So instead of taking the latter, I just uninstalled and downloaded the gmail app from the market. It worked. I feel stupid for not thinking of that before!
Is that link not working for anyone else?
I can't take screen shots either. It says mbitmap = null.

Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
I think you're confusing some concepts. gapps.zip is required to enable Google Market/Play, it's not included in CM ROMs. Gmail app is supposed to be downloaded from the market once you can access the market.
BTW my prev post was referring to the ROM 20120610 for p999, latest gapps for CM7 is 20110828 (generic), which I assume you know how to flash, I just included it at the end for completeness since the factory reset will have erased gapps.
the link to get.cm works for me, but you have to scroll down on the left side and click P999 to get the ones for our phones. those are device specific, gapps is android version specific
try this link directly to the CM7 nightlies, the first zip is the one you want

[Q] Need Advice Loading [ROM][ICS 4.0.4]Genesis - Stable Build1 - CM9/AOKP Hybrid

Hello,
This is my first post here so go easy
I am trying to install [ROM][ICS 4.0.4]Genesis - Stable Build1 - CM9/AOKP Hybrid on LG P999 with no success. I rooted using super one click and made a backup. I flashed 5.0.2.0 to the device and tried loading Mr. Apocalypse's build following every instruction to the letter. The install appears to work fine allowing me to choose options and I get to the reboot prompt fine. I answered the baseband question and opted for the harsh kernel.
After reboot I get the white LG logo then the display dims and there are light leaks of varying degree but nothing after that. I waited about 45 minutes the first time and have waited up to an hour with nothing. I have tried [ROM][CM9][JUL13-Build80] Domination with similar results. I get to the reaper kernel image after reboot and that's as far as it goes. I followed all the instructions to the letter and I have no idea what is wrong.
Anyone that has a suggestion, other than buying a better phone, please let me know. Is there another method I can try?
Thanks in advance.
With Genesis, install it with the stock kernel, then after the first boot load harsh separately. Some phones get a boot loop with harsh in Aroma

Yes, I used the command prompt on my PC to load the NVFlash image. From what I have learned reading that is the only way it will work correctly.
It is currently loading after the initial reboot and at the LG logo with the blue streak, which is encouraging.

Ok, that is good that you used nvflash to get CWM on your phone, that definitely wasn't the problem. Like he said earlier, could've been the kernel.

Hahahaha, I almost laughed out loud at that. Umm, have you tried just a basic rom, like CM7? Just to compare if it works or something to see if it'll flash correctly and not your phone, and it might be a bad download for genesis. Just to be sure, it is indeed a P999?

I have a GB 2.3.3 on it now that loaded no problem. I tried that two days ago after several failed attempts. I am thinking its something here though because I couldn't get the ICS Domination ROM to work on it either. The GB ROM worked great after I flashed a new baseband to it. I had the static problem before that. It just doesn't want to cooperate with ICS. And the SD card is empty as well, I wanted to make sure there was enough room for a swap file.
I pulled the battery and it boots to the second LG logo and that's where it stays. I suppose both of the ROMs I tried could have been bad downloads, but idk., this has me flummoxed beyond belief. - and yes, it is a P999 (G2x) I bought about a year ago at a t-mobile store. I think it's time for a burial at sea for this thing!
There's always a fix. Possibly a bad download. You could try another CWM, the touch one, because I know a kernel doesn't flash on the touch one, but possibly those roms might flash on a touch recovery. Idk, I'm just babbling here.

Thanks again, and I will not give up on this, I am way more stubborn than that. I just flashed CWM v5.8.1.3 and restoring. I am going to try to load yet another variation of ICS and report the outcome. If nothing else, I do like this touch image I just loaded!
Have you tried doing a wipe before installing a rom? I've had times where known good roms won't boot just because I didn't wipe before installing it. If your gonna give this method a go try using this to wipe it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1854850

IDK, Going to try to go back to Genesis tomorrow. Thanks again to each of you for all of your help and advice.

3G - 4G troubles?
I like it so far, much better than the older version I was using. I noticed this morning that I don't get any signal other than wifi. It looks like some people that did not opt for wifi were able to get signal after reinstalling with that option chosen. I did add the wifi initially, but no signal at all for data thus far. I didn't see any settings that I missed, the battery saver data stuff is unchecked and there aren't any others I could find. I am going to reinstall and hope it takes care of it.
A quick wipe and reload fixed it! :good:
