Hello, I'm using fjfalcon's CM7 (2012-05-06). I noticed the other day the compass doesn't seem to work. In Google Maps, I get a location but no orientation, and in c:geo (a geocaching app) I get location but it assumes I'm facing North.
I also downloaded a few compass apps (Compass and Smart Compass) and neither of those got a reading (assumed I was facing North).
Does anyone else have the same issue?

I just tried doing that for a while and it didn't have any effect. One thing I noticed is in the video the demonstrator's compass moved. Mine stays locked at North no matter what I do.
I've always had luck doing the calibration moves with Ulysse Gizmos

Just tried using that app. No results. I also tried calibrating while using GPS Status & Toolbox and got no results.

I have downloaded several compass apps but none is pointing north. Anyone with same problem?
I am using Catch.com's compass app from the Market and it is pointing North fine.
Does your Google Maps report your location correctly? Also, you may want to turn Wi-Fi Location on as well. (Settings>>Location services>>Google's location service [checked]) Also, make sure GPS satellites is checked there.
Tf700's specifications says it has an electronic compass, so no gps is needed to point north.
I tryed catch.com's compass and guess what... it works, its pointing north.
The other compasses still dont work, so catch.com is the one to use.
Thanks for the tip.

Mine doesn't even work with catch.com's app. I rotate the device slowly a full 360 deg. and it moves the needle about 45 deg.
This makes certain apps like SkySafari, SkyMap etc. virtually useless.
Does anyone know of a technique to re-calibrate or reset the compass to make it work?

Mine does it too. The sensors can autocalibrate when rotated. Just like I did with my HTC Incredible, I just hold it in roughly the same orientation I'll be using it in then flip it over twice around the X axis, then rotate it sideways twice around the Y axis, then rotate around the Z axis. It usually reads accurately after doing 2 of the 3 axis but I do all 3 anyway because it takes a matter of seconds to do this.
I also have problem with compass. I tried it to calibrate, but none method works. The compass north is always heading +-45deg to screen top in landscape mode. Is there any way to reset the compass calibration (for.ex. delete some files on rooted device) or is this a HW fault? I'm on rooted stock ROM.

Count me in on compass problems. I begin to suspect that there's a hardware problem. My compass never points north, and calibrating by rotating the pad does not help. Makes geocaching rather impossible, unless you bring your own compass...
Mine seems to be mostly right using the Smart Tools one. I get a magnetic field reading of around 42.the need jumps around a bit, but not more than +/- 10 degrees.

Ditto, Smart Tools points north more or less accurately. (49 mag) It's off by 15 degrees, and it's 15 degrees off in the opposite direction on my sgs3.

Don't know if I'm missng a setting, but I can't get the digital compass to work with any app. Gps works fine though. Thoughts?

How are you accessing it to know that it's not working?
I bought the tools app from the google $.25 sale and the compass works fine...
I've installed the compass app, and the GPS status app. Neither of which work.

Can you give any details on how they don't work?
For example, at work I have a lot of interfering magnetic waves, so it points in the wrong direction, but always points towards the source of the magnatic waves.
It's absolutely non-functional. As if the application isn't even detecting that a digital compass is installed. The needle doesn't move at all, nor does the pitch indicator in GPS Status. I'm wondering if it's due to a bad flash or something. I've only flashed once, CM10, then did a clean wipe multiple times ( cache, dalvic & wipe 2 times each) before installing a nandroid of the rooted stock back to the tablet.
Is there an application that reads directly from the sensors that I can test?

This is what I thought you were already doing, and knew something I didn't know. There are sooooo many apps out there. The fact that you had rooted and flashed is also important info.
can someone install 'Sensor List' and see if the 3-axis magnetic field sensor functions for you. I'm getting nothing on mine.
EDIT: it must have been something to do with a bad flash. i flashed the recovery Entrophy ripped and it's working now. Guess it's going to be a night of rebuilding the tablet now.

ahh well glad to hear you found out the cause
Well.... after the latest update (done in Kies due to CWM installed) the compass has stopped working again and I'm not getting any values from the magnetic field sensor. The UEALGB stock recovery tar was what I flashed through Odin last time to get the compass back. I'm at a loss on what to flash this time though as I have updated.
Still waiting on a a recovery that I can Odin. There has to be something in the CWM port that Entrophy uploaded that is borking the magnetic sensor.
In my device Gps in google maps is not working properly.
First time it wont show the exact location after closing and reopening it sets the location correct. But if i move, it can't track it and go into grey dot.
But the google navigation works perfectly.
Anyone else facing this issue?

I am facing the same issue but on LineageOS 16.0. I tried to use GPS Locker to find satellites but none were found. I was also using the magisk optimized GPS file replacement. If anyone knows anything, please help. Not having GPS sucks.
My GPS on stock android is also not to good. Sometimes it shows badly my location and often it does not detect directions well. Arrow is pointed in wrong direction and when I move it is moving to the sides not forward. Also when I launch Harry potter game my character is also walking sideways. I tried to calibrate compass but is does not help to much.
My issue is gone now... I did nothing different just regularly updated my phone...also haven't tried any of there games so can't confirm if this is present there
Hi guys,
I have this phone now since launch and it is for me a good phone. But now i realized something that is annoying me.
In the specs is written that the phone has a compass, when i open a navigation app or compass app nothing works that show me the direction the phone shows.
Has somebody information to fix this?
I found a solution (temporary?) for this.
I restarted in the save mode, then it works.
Then i started again normally and still working.
Maybe the cause is an app. Will see when it happens the next time, but for now i just let it.

What compass application are you trying?
I've not ran into any issues with compass on my One Vision.

I tried with google maps, here go, and 4-5 compass apps just to test. Usually i don' t need any compass app, so i installed any i have seen in google store.
For now it is working, read my posting above.
Using Google maps for navigation. Seems to work well until I turn a corner. Then usually the arrow remains at a 90 degree angle to the direction in heading. Anyone else have this problem? Is there are fix or a calibration?

I had a similar issue to this on the first day of using, I simply force stopped Google Maps, cleared cache & data and it's been flawless since, hope this helps!
