Somebody posted the update was going to be 5/28.Go to the developement forum and look for the update thread. If you do the update you can't change back, you might be better waiting for the official update.

Just double click the EXE you download and follow the instructions on the screen. No hacking required.

unless you have the HOX in s-off and CID-11111111 like mine hehe

If you update to the 1.8, can you revert back to 1.7 by running the stock ruu?

not if yours is s-on I think... you need to be s-off to revert back to lower version...

No you cannot. If you update to 1.8 you will have it until the next one comes out.

ive never seen a changelog from HTC ^^
Android 2.3.4 adds videocalling if I am correct. But we I don't have the official rom on my phone so it's worthless for now. Let's hope some cooks will cook up new roms out of this one.
pardon my ignorance, just jumped ship from BB to android. can someone explain why this release is a big deal? does this release mean that a new slew of ROMs are gonna be slated to come out due to changes in optimization?

Just have a little bit of patience.. It seems S-OFF phones can't flash this, S-ON can. However, while you can turn S-ON again and flash the ROM, chances are you are not going to be able to make it S-OFF again because HTC fixed an exploit used. Just wait for a few hours 'til someone uploads this ROM to XDA as a ZIP file without HTC's bootloader. For example Baad just stated he'll be updating InsertCoin based on this OTA update. That way, you can keep S-OFF and still have the new ROM.

Once rooted and S-OFF, you NEVER EVER install an official HTC RUU. It could patch the root/S-OFF exploit. Don't be impatient and wait for Chefs to cook some ROMs, or face the consequences.
I'll suggest you just flash back your previous ROM, if it's still possible.

for your information this is what bootloader mode look like, if you note where it did say revolutionary it now says "locked"
This is obviously the new hboot that HTC are using now, i can only assume it would change to *** UNLOCKED *** when using the web tool from HTC (although the above phone is already S-OFF)
Mine is also saying that now, gonna have to wait on either the Revo guys to crack it or do the HTC stuff - it does still say S-OFF though

[Q] Froyo------>Gingerbread BUT!!!!

Ok So back in the day I used the ace hack kit so I was happily on froyo me specs are:
Android Version 2.2.1
Kernel Version 2.6.32.21-g3c08447
Software Number Inspired DHD AFR003
so now as I remember I did the s-off rooted and unlocked but need to go back to stock firmware (IDK just want it) so att made the update to gingerbread so my question is:
If I update like the way the htc page tells me to will it brick my phone ?
and if not what do I have to do?
ive just been out of it and im a little back behind but I find posts with other things than this thanks in advance guys!
Check out this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1208507
It has all the instructions and tools you need to return to stock.
but I cant just execute the htc update and what would happen my main concern is messing up my phone by just updating to the official Gingerbread I am on still on the same specs
Yes you can just flash the gingerbread ruu. You will be stock but still have soff which is fine unless you were going to do some kind of warranty claim then I would suggest gong son aswell

Do you mean the OTA update, or the RUU from HTC's website? If the former, then no, you can't unless you are running a rock-stock froyo ROM (it will abort before doing anything). If the latter, then yes, you can run it, but it will wipe everything.

Flashing ghe htc OTA update while you are S-Off will not work. Found this out the hard way back when I first started messing with phones
You can un root your phone and put S-On and update it to gingerbread but I don't think you'll be able to root it as I believe the hack kit requires you to downgrade firmware anyway.
Best bet is to just flash a gingerbread rom. If your trying to keep sense I would suggest the rom virtuous unity.
Has sense 3.0 with a load of new features and is gingerbread I believe.
Either way, best of luck. Hope this helps

[Q] Reasons for RUU not working?

I took my HTC One S to the HTC Care shop to flash the Stock ROM. After 3 hours when I returned back the guy told me No cant do with no explanation. He said there was some hardware issue. I had handed over the phone with OEM relocked. After getting it back I restored it back to the backup of I had and looks like as it was when I had given it to them.
I have not faced any issues with the phone, just wanted to update the version from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4. I do not have my stock backup.
What are the known causes a RUU not working? I am planning on getting the RUU from someone on the forum but do want to get the wrong version or something. My specs are in my signature. If someone can tell me what exactly I need to look for when getting an RUU. Also does the HBOOT need to be the same that you own or can be higher to flash?
I am thinking that the idiots at HTC do not have the right ROM and hence asking me to deposit the phone in order to cover their own tracks. But thats just being hopeful. Can anyone help??

There is no S-OFF on HOS. The process for SuperCID is not out for HTC One S (S3). The posts have been quite explicit that the process mentioned will brick this version.

I had a similar problem a couple months ago. I tried almost every RUU available but luckily i managed to find one that worked, its called "OTA_Ville_U_ICS_40_S_HTC_Europe_2.31.401.5-1.78.401.2_release_275773ape8z1mahr0gt8fg". What a mouthful right lol, i'm not 100% sure it'll work for you because you have an S3 chip but it's worth a try. You can find it on filefactory and btw make sure your bootloader is locked.
Hope this helps

Well considering that its rooted and on a custom ROM do I still have the right to demand a replacement. Plus the service center ppl say it will take a month for them to get a verdict back. So was hoping to exhaust all options before taking the final step.

I just don't see how you going to do it if they can't. Try getting them to try again and if they still can't get it to work then have them send it off. Or just not care about it and update to a rom that has 4.0.4.

Did you do it after upgrading your stock to 4.0.4 or before it? Cuz last time I checked you CAN NOT use a custom 4.0.4 based ROM on a 4.0.3 based HOS. There is an HBOOT conflict. Anyways there are practically only 2 ROMs available for the HTC One S (S3). The TD v4 gives me bootloops (tried and failed) and the other is mcOneS3 which I havent tried but have in good faith that I WONT WORK before! reference to post #8
So if you have found a workaround I am all ears, (eyes in this case)!!

well just waiting for a 4.0.4 nandroid from someone to see if that works. else will personally ask football for an RUU.
Your One S must be having a higher hboot version than their RUU at htc service centre. Downgrade your hboot version to stock for RUU to work properly.

So If I have a RUU with correct CID but a higher HBOOT version I am good to go??
The hboot version of the RUU should be the same or higher than you currently have in order for it to work. The CID should also be the same that is _038 in our case. If you find a suitable RUU please post a link to the upload, we Indians are in a dire need of an RUU.

Downgrade from 4.1.1 to 4.0.4

I never rooted or flashed or anything to my one s, yesterday I got the official jellybean update and so far I hate it
sure they made some things good, contact pictures aren't low quality any more but the downside out weighs the good stuff, I can't play any games cause it lags, the 3d effect on my home screens is gone
all in all I want to downgrade back to ics, the official htc ice, not custom ones. I'm willing to root or w/e it is asking is my phone is how it was yesterday before the update
please help, oh and I have the s4 processor
Edit: even after turning everything off I'm using up 800mb ram out of the 1gb

RAM management on Linux/Android is different as the windows one.
Full doesnt automatically means bad, but yes the usage is higher then on ICS.
Only way to revert to official ICS is downgrade your HBoot or getting S-OFF and installing the ICS Ruu.

if s-off, hboot and ruu are unknown for you the procedure could be very risky for you..
maybe think about flashing a custom rom which is based on 4.0.4, like zenRom or Trickdroid 7, its much easier than downgrading etc.

this is normally the ruu, doubleklick, and it makes everything on its own.
but the jb-ota updated the hboot, so the ics ruu isnt compatible anymore.
to let the ics ruu run again you have to downgrade your hboot.

Fyi you will lose warranty if you attempt any of the above steps I.e root, s off etc. I think you should give custom roms a go if you are going to unlock bootloader and root. Trickdroid is pretty much stock but better and viper is amazing. Using hasoons all in one tool is probably the easiest way to unlock phone (stickied in dev section).

Hi Guys,
I'm using an unlocked T-Mobile .... Its not rooted yet .....
But the software upgrade won't work .... The update gets downloaded (as I can see the update file in my file explorer) but it won't install ....
The phone merely restarts ....
I have 4.0.3, and want to upgrade to 4.0.4 .... fed up with the multi-tasking issues.
Is there any way to install the upgrade file manually, or do I need to install a 4.0.4 based custom ROM?

Hi, I have same problem but I do not find ICS RUU anymore. I have S4 European version. Radio 1.11.50.05.28_10.27.50.08L, Software 3.16.401.8 and Kernel 3.4.10. Maybe someone can help to find ICS RUU?
htc one s unlocking ad rooting

no
this is normally the ruu, doubleklick, and it makes everything on its own.
but the jb-ota updated the hboot, so the ics ruu isnt compatible anymore.
to let the ics ruu run again you have to downgrade your hboot.

Ok so i went into settings and checked for an update in the att update setting and it said there was one. it downloaded and i opened it when i did it took it tells me something about it being an important update and ask to continue and then tells me the phone is going to restart. when it does it boots into twrp and wont update it and when i reboot and check again for the update it tells me the phone has the latest update when it is still on 4.0.4. What should i do ?

You have to ruu back to stock. Supercid stock, relock bootloader.why not just flash one of the stock roms in the dev section. As of now I dont even think there is a root exploit for 3.18 base

Im running the latest viper xl Rom and love it, u never said what hboot you are on. Anything 1.14 and up needs to have a boot image flashed separate. I think viper will flash the boot image for you though. If you need help with that let me know but u really should read more and you will figure this out quick enough

"Because it is new and is from their Carrier" so people will think they need to flash it
Lol lucky he didn't brick or corrupt hboot . There is a version of that here in android to use instead of ota btw

To the OP:
-When you take an ota, it tries to reboot to recovery. You have a custom recovery installed, but you have to have stock recovery to install an official update.
-You can flash this thing you downloaded, but it has to be renamed update.zip and moved to the root directory. Then you've got to run a ruu to get stock recovery back on.
-If you have s-on and superCID, installing this OTA will brick your phone.
-The 3.18 ota contains some firmware updates and a new hboot that aren't included in JB roms. But if your phone is running fine, you don't need these.
-You're better off just flashing a JB rom until you understand more about how your phone works.
