Any opinions on this with tablets some tablets getting 4g witch would you pick?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
I say high-end phone, strictly because I will use it more throughout the day than I would a tablet.
Tabs are nice, even more so when you factor in 4g. I don't see tabs replacing high end phones so much as I see thenm replacing low end netbooks and laptops. I would not go back to a basic talk/text only phone because I use my phone for Pandora, mp'3s and Nav in the car and web access anywhere. A tab would be too big to carry with me everywhere, I would find myself saying " I should have brought my tab" where I always have my phone.
that being said I hope to have both

All I want for Christmas is my...... I was wondering what fellow Inspire/android users are crushing on when it comes to a pad. I LOVE android with its different spaces, the HTC sense, hundreds of ROMs and widgets. Unfortunately, the iPad is kinda sweet and no one android pad has caught up. For me, I would go for an iPad simply because android lacks that one stop usability for everything that Apple has, andoid pads are overpriced and android is missing a killer office suite. If Microsoft made office lite for android and prices were lowered by 20%, android would make a dent.
Until then, I'm crushing on the iPad 3.
What do y'all think?

So it basically makes a nice colorful paperweight/kindle. ;p Most of my work is word processor/calendar/ppt intensive. I think the Atrix is a great idea if it could be perfected so that we could have a phone/pad or computer that would be our source for presentations and for sites we could use some more space on.

Played with iPad but lacked without micro sd support, hdmi out and full usb port. Use an Archos 101 Internet Tablet 8gb and now the Acer Iconia A500 and really enjoy it. It all seems to be what system and build fits your needs or your preferences. Just throwing this out there for anyone who may be interested, selling the Archos...

i love it. too bad webos failed with market penetration. its a beautiful os, but there is no app support. i am patiently waiting for a stable android build now....
Picked up the Jetstream last week and love it! Much prefer it to the ipad. The price is high but I think the specs will pay off in the longterm.
On this size screen I prefer the normal sites vs apps or mobile so the lack of honeycomb apps isn't a big deal.
We need some secs on it though. I want root!

My children love their $700 toy that is the iPad. Personally I am not crazy about tablets, I prefer my laptop. Anything I would do on a tablet I can do on my phone or laptop. This is just a personal opinion of course, if I traveled a lot, I would probably find a tablet more appropriate because of size. All that being said, I would love to sell my iPad that I haven't used in probably 8 months, but my wife won't let me because the kids love it. If I did purchase another tablet, it would be an Android powered tablet just because I prefer Android over iOS and it would probably be the Asus Transformer

Well, I will warn you: If you get one brand new, it's very likely it's not rootable. I have one, and I am still waiting for a nvflash that targets B70+ models, a working 3.1-3.2 exploit, or both.

Heh well until the ipad dies I am on gadget restriction as per my wife. My MacBook died a while back so I bought a new laptop without discussing it with my wife(asking for permission) so I am not allowed to buy anything until something else dies. Not really in the market for another tablet anyway, its just not practical for me. I would buy a new phone before I would buy another tablet

I have an iPad2 and enjoy it quite a bit, but I am basically an Apple guy (more Apple gear around here than I care to admit) and the iPad fits in well with the Apple ecosystem. (And yes, I own an Inspire 4G but until I bought it, I was a solid iPhone man).
Truth be told though, if the Jetstream had existed when I bought my iPad, I would have SERIOUSLY considered it instead. That is one sweet machine.
Liked the Viewsonic G-Tab, then sold it on Ebay and bought the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1", when Staples had the $100 off coupon. Couldn't be happier!
Asus transformer, B70 model and rooted ...
But seriously android tablet is insanely customizable, I had an ipod touch 4 and sold it. Why? Because even jailbroken customization was extremely limited.
Android can do anything.

Okay guys, I need some advice here. I am going to be forced to buy a tablet for work. I am the salesman of the month and what they do is give $500 or an IPad if you don't have a tablet. This will be used primarily for work with office software, emails, remote desktop, etc.
I am not sure that I want the IPad. I am thinking Android but not very familiar with the tablets. My brother had a Xoom and I am not crazy about it. I was wanting to decide on something so I might be able to get it in the Market Place here on XDA. I also think I want to be able to buy accessories like a dock, etc.to use with it.
Let me know what you guys think.....
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Just FYI, the $500 limit is probably unrealistic. Especially with a dock, etc..
I do love my Samsung Galaxy 10.1" 32GB, but they can't sell them now or something because of a law suit with Apple'
I also have an ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity TF700T Tablet 64GB and it is quick! But a TF300T would probably serve you real well!
Just make sure not to go below 32GB. You won't be happy if you do!
The ASUS has a really nice dock, if you're going to do a lot of typing. As for remote, TeamViewer puts the PC's desktop on your tablet.
Hope this helps!
I'd second a recommendation for the Asus TF300 or TF700 series. If you opt for a $700, you can buy a TF201 Prime dock that will work with the new Infinity tablet. I mention this as it will be cheaper than the official TF700 keyboard dock ($30 - 40).
My brother has the original galaxy tab that I could probably pick if for $100 but it has a very small screen and not much storage. It does have an SD card slot though.
Do any of you think the IPad is better than an Android tablet for office stuff? I will not be gaming on it, never really liked it or don't have the time.

I can't really give a non-biased answer on that. I know people that have iPads and have integrated them with their day-to-day work, but more often than not I see them playing games or checking email and not really do anything that's specific to the platform.
I know I personally would opt for the Android tablet route, but for e-mail, remote desktop, etc I think the apps are good on both sides of the fence and you'll be happy either way you go
Samsung
If you want an android tablet Samsung is probably the way to go
What would be a good price on the original 7" tablet that he has? It is Verizon 3g leather case and dock. He has it on a data plan now but I think I will use WiFi only. Oh it also has the SD card slot and is 8/10.

You guys are slacking. Nexus 7 16GB and pocket $250 for accessories...beer money...hookers and blow.
7"-8" is where it's at for portability. Who wants to lug around a freaking iPad all day.
If you absolutely need storage then OTG cable or wi-drive such as AirStash or Kingston Wi-Drive...
I don't know how anyone can be on XDA and still stomach it to wake up in the morning owning an Apple product. Wasn't so bad previously, but this latest round of lawsuits has gotten out of hand and I choose to practice what I preach.
Google nexus 7 if you are covered by wifi , if not go for the new Sammy 10.1 note that's going to sell in 2 weeks.

Well, I'd say Xoom 2. It's beautiful and has a great built quality (and it's also water resistant).
I'd go for the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity TF700T.
The display and processor are simply hard to beat!
Asus Transformer is hands down the best.
Usability, the Samsung is the clear winner. The ASUS has no Task Manager (likke in Win). It has no screen captue icon in the Task/Status Bar. The ASUS powers up just from plugging it in to charge and there's no way to see how much charge it has, without starting it up.
These things do make a big difference and they are annoying weaknesses of the ASUS TF700T! In fact, I'm debating returning the ASUS and keeping my slower Samsung because of these things only. But I do like how fast and smooth the ASUS is and how good its screen looks.
However, without ebing able to root this ASUS, I can't do a lot of what I need to do and the DebugFS rooting method acts like it worked, but it doesn't and I can't post to that thread yet, because you have to jump thru hoops here first. So far its been a few days and I'll have a few more to go before I can post there, if I still even can. No offense to the admins, but it really pisses me off! I came here for one reason and one reason only and that was to address the developer about why it's not working for me and that will take a week! I will probably have returned the ASUS by then and say screw it. I wouldn't care if I could find another way to root it, but Google gives me no love there.
I know that last part seems off-topic, but it's not, considering how many people will need to be able to root and that being part of a recommendation and fols having problems with what seems to be the only rooting method available and no way to ask for help here, if they just got the device, find out the developer posts here and have to wait days just to ask a lousy question.
So as weird as it sounds, the ASUS has a mark against it due to XDA-Forums. If the util doesn't work, that is. Again, no offense. That's just the way it is.
Moral of the story? If you need to root, you can try the ASUS if you want. But if the util doesn't work right away and you don't have the privileges here, then just return it and get the Samsung, if you can't wait. Otherwise, just get the Samsung. It will root easy enough. If the situation weren't what it is with access to the developer, then no big deal.
So after having my TF101 for over a year, it took a nasty fall and became unusable. This was of course devastating, made even worse by the fact that I am about to start at a new school. I have been wanting to upgrade for awhile, but since I bought it with my last paycheck from a job I lost, this has not been possible. However, due to this tragedy, my parents are considering buying me a new one, but paying full price is out of the question. So, I found this site through Google selling a TF300T for only $229, which seems too good to be true. Can anyone say if this is a legit site?

If it seems too good to be true and is from an unheard of retailer, i'd recommend you avoid it

I read a lot of comic books and the 10.1 screen is perfect for them. Also, I like the convertibility. And of course, the Nexus not having expandable storage is a deal breaker for me.

You can expand the storage by connecting a memory stick/HDD into the micro-USB port by using some cable (can't currently remember the cables name). And there have been rumours of a Nexus 10 coming soon. Anyways 229 is probably too little for TF300 because here where I live the 32 GB one without the dock is 419.

If you can afford it, then, I'd go for the TF700. I downloaded the "free preview" of Watchmen from Barnes & Noble and it was pretty cool, but it was also pretty obvious that on a high-def screen it would absolutely rock. I'm not much of a comics guy, but if I were, that's definitely what I'd do.

I second this, got my from Amazon, next day shipping, Like new, for 269 I believe just a couple weeks ago. Still had ICS on it (no promise there though) so if I had wanted to retain the ICS bootloader I would have been able to.
I'm smitten with mine, although I really REALLY wish dev. would move forward a little farther.
Nice tablet though! My fiance was able to trade her BS prime in for a brand new TF700 at Best Buy, straight trade even thought we have had it for almost a year due to the issues it is known for. Color me jealous

I Have a Kindle Fire HD, and a Samsung Stratosphere, but I personally prefer tablets over the regular android phones..

Was about to say the same thing! Yeah, I have a Kindle Fire (1st gen) I moded (currently running CM10.1 w/4.2.2) and I prefer viewing & interacting with content on it because of the screen size compared to my phone which has a 4.3 screen. Though I have to admit, 4.3 is the biggest I've had so far and its not necessarily a deal breaker. Like votinh said, it depends what people use their device for most of the time. If you need more of a phone, then the phone. But if you're playing game/reading stuff/creating content a tablet in most cases is preferable.

I actually considered just having a 7" tablet, no phone. I might do it if US carriers actually support it. I got a phone simply because I didn't feel like dealing with the workarounds to get a tablet working as a phone with GV+data only.

Honestly, I can't see how one is better than the other, as they are for completely different uses. Phones are way more portable, usually in your pocket the whole time. If you are bringing your tablet, that requires bringing a bag, and using it requires more than just pulling it from your pocket.
Personally, i mostly use my tablet as a leisure computer for browsing the web and watching movies either when lying about at home or travelling long distances via plane or train, but I always keep my phone with me and use it as a social media device on the go, or quickly checking news.
Tablets and phones in my mind aren't mutually exclusive devices, rather different devices for different uses. Although if I had to choose to give up my smartphone or my tablet, I would pick my phone any day.

I certainly agree with Vegost. In addition you should consider the battery life. Phone will have at most 1 day battery life (if you wanna do tablet stuff on it, which means screen on most of the time), whereas tablet will have more battery life.
