[MTD][RECOVERY] Restore CWM from TWRP - Epic 4G Android Development

Thanks:
-Drockstar for CWM for the Epic
-Koush for CWM
-Team Win for the recovery injector
Info
This is a zip to restore CWM from TWRP if you flashed TWRP and you hate it or if a kernel you like has TWRP and you prefer CWM.
This has been tested flashing using TWRP while on ICS.
I am not responsible for anything that happens s a result of flashing this.
Make sure "Inject TWRP" is unchecked before flashing.

So say someone has mistakenly let rom manager flash the bml cwm, could they use this to restore to the mtd cwm? Just a question, I didn't do that, just would like to know bcuz I know a few people on here have done that in the past not knowing better...

I thought that rom manager used a temp-boot copy, so flashing it wouldn't overwrite the recovery that you access from the three finger boot?

Alls I know is a few people have soft bricked their phone by making that mistake with rom manager...

I have backups that I made using CWM, as well as backups made using TWRP, + these ALL work..........and I have used the kexec temp CWM from the CM Team w/ good results as well...............yes we all have our preferences as to which recovery to use + why, but *this* Recovery Restore is now indispensable to me going forward............... + it's just awesome having the option to switch our recovery direct from TWRP.

I' am not able to restore CWM in place of TWRP. I could not post here earlier owing to the issue of 10 posts and i have crossed it just a while ago on another post on the same issue.
TWRP gives me an error message "unknown md5 error" for any zip file that i try to flash and hence i' am now stuck with ROM (MIUI V4) and the Kernel (Nyan Colonel). Due to the same error i' am unable to flash the CWM restore too. Is there any other way that i could restore CWM other than going back to stock with ODIN ?
Thanks

New ROM

Whenever i try to flash a new ROM it doesn't want to load. I've tried the CM7 nightlies and the pheonix ROM. This is what I do.
I root my phone via one click root.
Install clockwork recovery via app.
wipe
install ROM via recovery (install zip)
start up
Locks at LG screen. Ugh!
Any advice?

NO, NO, NO! It's one thing to do this, alot have, it's another to not read threads or research it.
NEVER flash CWM from an app, you HAVE TO flash via NVflash.

This is a must for the g2x. If you use from manager it only fake flashes clockwork mod recovery and makes you unable to flash roms.
Typical way to achieve root on the g2x is to.
1. Nvflash cwm
2. Create a nandroid backup.
3. Flash a rom that has root.
Don't bother with rom manager or super one click.

Just as a quick question. Does wiping the system, wipe ANY of my data? Like does it only wipe the existing ROM? Ive been confused of it since the first time i flashed a ROM

Thanks, I'll give it a shot and get back to you. I don't think it had to do with the wipe as I always ran a wipe script before installing. I thought it had to do with the kernel.... (don't have a clue though)
I'll flash the clockwork via nvflash, and get back to you, thanks.
EDIT:
IT WORKS. NVFlash the recovery, make sure to change the command if you have a different version you plan to flash/

you definitely want to do that. do you have a nandoid backup of your original system? if your phone breaks, that is the only way to revert it back to original for an exchange (unless ofcourse you take a hammer to it).

I think so. Catch is that I don't know if doing that will actually update anything, the whole problem is that ROM manager doesn't flash it properly/to the right place. The only thing to do is make a nandroid and try it out and if ti doesn't work, then reflash with NV flash and you're good.

TWRP to CWM touch

I have a quick question. If I want to go from TWRP 2.2.0 to CWM Touch is it as simple as flashing the CWM Touch zip in TWRP? I'm a little worried about flashing it within TWRP and bricking my phone. Coming from CWM touch to TWRP I simply downloaded GooManager and installed it within the app but going back to Touch seems trickier.
Why leave twrp what's the problem

Yup, its as simple as flashing the zip. Make a fresh backup with cwm after you do it:thumbup:

I tried to flash Liquid Pre RC1 and got an error. I think you have to use CWM Touch to get it to flash and figured I'd go back to CWM. TWRP has been great but I feel like most all Roms work in CWM Touch but not all work in TWRP.
I've been trying to find a more stable JB rom from CM10 Alpha 3 and heard Liquid was pretty strong. Just tired of all the lockups and not ready to go back down to CM9 yet.
I flash everything in twrp your doing something wrong

I've found it's the exact opposite. TWRP and CWM Touch are slightly different in how they work; you sure you're not hitting the wrong button by mistake?
Not sure what happened but I tried flashing it once and it failed. Re downloaded the zip and tried a second time with the same error. The MD5 checked out and everything. I've flashed many times with TWRP with no issue so I'm not sure what's going on. Can anyone confirm that Liquid flashes successfully in TWRP? Not counting out user error but I've never had an issue flashing anything.

Probably a stupid question, but have you tried re-downloading Liquid? MD5 checks don't always reveal all flaws.

[Q] Is it safe to flash TWRP over CWM via Odin?

Hi, I want to switch from CWM to TWRP.
I tried flashing TWRP on SGH-T989 before but I started from unrooting my phone then root it (just flashed TWRP instead of CWM and flash SuperSU)
I would like to know if I can just flash TWRP using ODIN on this phone if I'm currently using CWM 5.0.x.x?
Please let me know.
Thank you

You dont flash anything. You open goo manager hit menu and press "install open recovery script" it will open up directly to the right file for skyrocket recovery and then download and automatically install. Simple
But before you do anything now on.. Read this thread about how to install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622917 so you dont do something bad.

Is there any other easy methods?

I apologize for bringing up an older thread, but I figured I'd tag my problem onto an existing thread versus creating my own.
I have a sch1535, and yesterday I got it rooted again after losing root with the Jelly Bean update. I then thought that Liquidsmooth looked like a great first ROM to try out. So, I ran Titanium on all my apps and data, saved my texts, and created a nandroid with CWM. Then I flashed Liquidsmooth, looks cool and seems like a great ROM, but I found I'm one of the few who actually like the stock samsung rom (I know, I know...). So, I went back into recovery only to find that I no longer have CWM, but instead TeamWin. I have no idea when the switch occurred.
I read that I can't use TeamWin with my existing nandroid backup, so how do I switch back from Teamwin to CWM without screwing anything over?

Your easiest bet is to use the EZ Recovery app on the market. You can flash back to CWM using it and your backups will still be there. Aside from a version difference you should still see your backups in CWM.

Yeah or you could download rom manager from the play store its compatible with both twrp and cwm so if you have them both flashed then just switch back to cwm. All your backups are on your internal SD so unless you wiped your storage you're good to go.

Make sure you're on the latest version of TWRP. I believe it ends in ".1".
Otherwise just use CWM instead. You can install that with a free app called Flashify very easily.

Easiest way is to restore with odin
then using Casual All in one
Root, Flash Insecure aboot
go to google play download Rom manager then install CWM
or try just download rom manager then install CWM replace TWRP
Problem is I'm still in TWRP recovery, as I've been unsuccessful with flashing any ROM (so far). Do I need to have an operating system installed in order to install CWM?
