[Q] PLEASE Help.. - General Questions and Answers

My phone tended to feel 'clogged up' if I didn't reboot it periodically. This morning, I rebooted it as per usual, and it was sent into an endless bootloop..
I have a Verizon LTE Samsung Galaxy Nexus, was running a CyanogenMod Nightly on IMK74L.
I can get into Clockwork Recovery, and Fastboot mode.
First, as always I made a Nandroid backup. Then, I tried to wipe cache/dalvik cache, it didn't work. I did a factory restore, it didn't work. I tried to restore to a previous Nandroid backup, and it did the same thing. I tried to restore the Nandroid backup I made today to get it into it's original state, and for some reason it was named in an improper format (with the date incorrect as well. I have no idea why this happened..), so I recieved an error while restoring /data..
So, I really need help.. I REALLY don't want to lose the data on the device. I am thinking I need some way to rename today's Nandroid backup so I can restore the data, and then use ADB to retrieve the data? At the very least, as a last resort, I have read most success stories happen after a full factory restore through ADB.
Thanks everyone, and I really appreciate it..

Can you apply nandroid to another rom? Just install cm7 again. And then you will only loose contacts and sms, to make the chance smaller, put your contacts on google

FYI, having a title like "PLEASE HELP ME!" or the like advertises yourself as an idiot.
There is actually a word for people who yell "PLEASE HELP ME!!!" on forums and mailing lists: Helpme Zombies.
Helpme Zombies are undead, and brainless. No matter how much you might want to help them, it's no use as they have no brain, and thus can't be helped at all.
Like most zombies, they want your attention and run right at you and basically try to smother you while yelling "PLEASE HELP ME!!! I NEED HELP!!!!".
The best thing to do with Helpme Zombies is to ignore them and let them feed off of some poor other sucker who tries to help them, but just has their brains eaten out too, or killing them with a large blunt instrument.

As for your actual issue, as long as you have your nandroid backups, you should be able to recover eventually. You should google around for how to manually unpack or mount nandroid images and files. Knowing some Linux command line will be helpful.

erased AACOUNTS AND SYNC from the settings menu, need help

I rooted and installed TB on a friends infuse, he preceded to erase accounts and sync on accident while he was dumping some att stuff. At least that is what he says.
I tried restore from TB and it just hangs. So then I force closed tb.
any advice?
On his batch menu in tb "accounts and sync" has that black strikethrough through it.
I'm not quite sure what he did exactly, but before I gave him back the phone I made a backup in tb. But this isn't working, so I'm looking for a solution.
thanks for any help.
I'm fastboot , adb proficient, but Im no expert.
Having made the backup with TB of the apps. I would suggest using Odin to restore back to stock and then you can restore the apps back onto the phone with TB. Remember, just apps... not system data. There may be a more simple solution, but this should work.
yup, i'm thinking that to. I was just reading about odin. I tried just a factory reset and then rerooted but it doesn't show up.
thanks dude
seems like I would need the apk and one other file? if I could just get those copies if someone wanted to email them
I was contemplating the option of the files as well, but I don't know if uninstalling them, however he did it, removed anything else or just the apk. Even on that note, I'm not 100% certain if getting the apk from someone else would fix it, but I suppose it is worth a shot.
I didn't want to go as far as a custom recovery on a phone that this guys knows nothing about. That and I don't know anything about samsung.
looks like I'm going with Stock_Deodexed_Root_NoBloat.zip
or would GTG's_Ultimate_Unbrick.zip be better? oops, I meant this one
Odin_UCKE3_v2.zip
I think the Ultimate Unbrick is a safe choice. It returns you completely to stock as well as removes root and the custom recovery(if you have it).
It's a decent option for anyone looking to revert back to where they started.
Obviously the stock+modded recovery and root is a nice option as well so that you don't have to do the steps separately, but that's up to you.
thanks for your help.
I don't think I'll ever get away from nexus phones after seeing what's behind this.

Lost contacts, messages, call logs after installing Froyo 2.2[X10 Mini]

So I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini and wanted to update it to Android 2.2 . I searched how to install xRecovery and succesfully installed Android Froyo 2.2 . I followed every instruction for the install but what I think destroyed me was Factory Reset on the xRecovery menu. After I selected it to back up my Android 2.1 it did succesfully so, I then pressed wiped all data BUT I had not backed up anything. Neither contacts nor messages nor calls. So after seeing on my succesfull that I didn't have those things I decided to restore my previous backup, thinking that all my data will return. Here it gets even worse! I selected Restore in the recovery menu and it restarted. But the phone was stuck at the SE logo and no matter if I restarted the phone, it would go there again. So I decided to get the Flashtool and restore my phone and now it has restored Android 2.1 and ALL the apps, notes, calendar events, contacts, messages, call logs are gone. And the worst is I did not even back up anything of these! I want them back so bad! Also xRecovery got uninstalled. Is there anything I can do or should I deal with the fact that I was an idiot and did all these crap? Please if you know a solution that can bring my data back post it now!
Thanks!
Please don't hesitate posting if you know anything about the subject.
I'm pretty sure you're screwed there mate, but for future reference, you should use Titanium Backup. It backs up all your apps, settings, contact information etc. As for messages and your call log, you can use an app called SMS backup, which will backup your call log and your SMS/MMS messages to your gmail account.
If you did a backup from xrecovery, you can restore everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) from your old 2.1 ROM incl. apps and calander and messages and whatever. You just need to reinstall xrecovery (I trust you know how as you've done it before) and go to the backup/restore menu and press restore and your previous backup should appear.
Try restoring it when you have the stock 2.1 ROM because I think sometimes going down doesn't work. Similar thing happened to me when I tried to restore my 2.1 ROM from 2.3 on my X10.

Thanks for your answer mate Well as I said I reinstalled xRecovery after flashing via PC to my old Android 2.1 which I am in now but instead of making a full restore, I selected Advanced Restore and restored the data. As a result, not only did nothing restore to my phone but it got the default settings again, you know when you open it for the first time. So should I risk a full restore or the same thing will happen?

Well, seeing that you know how to restore stock firmware w/ Flashtool, I see no harm in giving it a go. You can always go back if it goes wrong again

Okay I will try it now and I will tell you if it goes perfectly.
EDIT : Oh man it stuck again on the SE logo. Now I am reflashing it and after that xRecovery will be uninstalled. What the hell will I do now to get my data back?

Oh dear. I'm not sure what else you can do because if that was the only backup you made, I don't think much can be done. Maybe someone else might be able to tell you how to reflash your data by unzipping the backup file or something, but I can't really do much unfortunately. Sorry about that
Take this as a lesson. Always (and I do mean ALWAYS) backup data and things when you have to flash a new ROM or anything. Titanium backup is perfect for apps (and free too) and for data, I recommend MyBackup Pro. I've got the paid version, but I think the free version can backup your messages and contacts and all that data. Also, I think Android has the option to backup your contacts as well and bear in mind that MyBackup Pro isn't 100% perfect (e.g. it doesn't work properly if you have no gmail account attached, as I found out when I tried flashing a new ROM to a friend's phone) and that you can never have too many backups (although you do tend to fill the SD card with backups if you do too many ). Another user may be able to help you with retrieving data if you're lucky, but otherwise, you might have to move on as life must keep going on

Nevermind my friend. You helped me enough and thank you for this From now on, I will make sure I backup my files twice. As far as what will I do now, I will try to ask help to unzip my backup so I can get all my data again. Thank you very much, again. If anyone can help me reflash my data that would be grateful.

[Q] CWM reboots while restoring

I decided to take 4.4 for a test drive.
When I tried to restore my old ROM , CWM would reboot my device(d2att) before the restore was finished (a couple of different backups did the same thing). I had to reinstall some of the apps; also had to delete orphaned data via TiBu because of 24 error; and had to sign back in to all of my apps.
What is causing this? Why won't my nandroids install? Why is CWM rebooting in the middle of a restore?
Also...and I find this really weird.... Google Now just needs me/prompts me to say "google" instead of "OK google" like it's an older version. The play store says everything is up to date. Weird.
But the real problem is not being able to restore.
If I can't rely on my backups when I'm flashing new ROMs, I'm going to not want to flash anything and risk losing all my stuff.
I'm pretty much back to where I was now before this whole debacle, but I'm a little concerned that any future modifications might not be able to be undone like I have always been able to do.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[Q] Please tell me my FFIV save data wasn't wiped

Flashed the phone with Cyanogen and when I booted and ran FFIV, it only gave me the option for a new game. Weak! Is there any way to get my save data back? I figure I could try a recovery but not sure how to proceed with that.
Help's appreciated!
did you wipe data before installing the rom? If so, its gone. Next time back up with Titanium backup or something like it and you wont have that issue.

Unencrypt 60450? Help would be greatly appreciated!

Ok. So I thought I would give encrypting my phone a test drive, as I have never done it before, and read a lot about the pros and cons, and decided to see for myself since having the code, I could always factory reset, worse case scenario, right? WRONG! The problem is that even performing a factory data reset, it refuses to mount data, resulting in no change whatever. So I'll just TWRP wipe, and restore nandroid right? WRONG! Nothing I do will allow the data to be mounted, so I always end up back where I started. I read that flashing a custom kernel is a workaround, but I am on stock rooted, with stock SE Linux enforcing, so I don't think I can flash a kernel. I'm afraid to use the upgrade tool, as I am afraid that it will either fail or brick my device. If I am wrong, or have missed anything in my searches, please correct me and help if you have knowledge in this area. Apparently, one thing Touchwiz got right is a decrypt option in their settings. AS it is, I am unable to backup, restore, or flash another ROM, because data will not mount to be wiped. UGH! Worst mistake I have made. Ever. Thanks in advance for any help with this. I have no problem in losing everything, as I have important stuff backed up physically and in the cloud.
Finally got formatting data to work, and restored backup from external SD, which I removed before format, just in case. Sorry for posting for help a little too quickly, but maybe my exploits will save someone else from headache I went through. :victory:
