Folders or just particular files i just transferred into external card end up disappearing. As it was never there. I checked Lost.dir folder and it was all of a sudden same size as mdata that is missing. I read the card is corrupted so u formatted it. It has happened twice the reformat. Whats causing that? Just want to understand it.
This happens on the external card level 6 32 gig micro card only, by the way.

How long have you had it? And what from are you running? I'd guess its corrupt and you should format, or your not waiting for the transfer long enough (with root explorer, leave the window active until it actually finishes)

look into performing a "low level format." This can be done with hddguru's "low level format" tool or be using the dd command from Linux eg. dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda1 bs=1m

I'm having the same problem. I have a class 4 32GB card and the same contents of a folder keep removing themselves. Last time I formatted the card and put them back. I had 98% of them backed up on my computer. So did a full format, took like 45 mins, and now 4 days later, same stuff gone! And its about 19gigs of music, vids, and pics every time!
PS. Sorry I didn't post anything to help, just wanted to let you know you aren't alone!

Sorry for long delay with my response. I did format the card on pc. Did one of them deep formats. Took forever. That fixed it for the most part. I did notice that the problem persists only when it comes to video files. I wait for transfer to finish. I keep the app on the active. Even make sure it transferred all files correctly and that they actually play. Even with all that they disappear after a reboot or when i fire up file manager. I use es explorer by the way. What ive done lately is transfer them to phone memory first and keep a copy there and transfer video files a few a time instead of the whole bulk. If i do that it seems to work fine. Files dont disappear if i do that.

Never mind. Its began doing again with all files. I gave up and bought a class 4 32 gig card. I dont know if its because the one i have was class 6 but its annoying. Cant trust it to save files anymore.

So, I've been running Serendipity 7 on my Infuse for maybe 3 days until I went back to stock firmware, but it seems everytime I try to put all my music onto my external SD, it deletes it all and saves 3-4 bands with scattered songs from the album. I had this same problem with my Captivate, but it would put the files into LOST.dir instead of just deleting them. I've looked around on Google since I started having problems back in June/July and couldn't find anything.
Right now, my Infuse is running stock Froyo and rooted. I haven't really done much else. The SD is a Sandisk 32gb.
To add a bit more, when all 19gb of music is on the SD card, I safely remove it and then plug it in just to make sure it's still on there. The music doesn't delete till it's plugged into the phone. I've tried using the SD card slot on my computer and USB through my phone and it always deletes either after I disconnect from the computer or when I plug the SD into my phone.

Do you have any .nomedia files on your phone? I don't think the media scanner is the issue here, but it's always a possibility. Did you try storing the music on your phone's internal memory instead of the SD card? Maybe the card is going bad?
I haven't put any .nomedia files on my phone. As for the SD card, it is brand new. I can put the media ob my internal, but when I move it to the external it deletes itself.

Now it's deleting apps that are installed on the external SD...

It's most likely a faulty external sim card.
I should stop buying from eBay. I've only gotten one good SD card from them. This I've was still in GE case too. It's like it will only allow 1-2 gigs of the 32 before it deletes the files.

Search e-bay for this problem. They are also selling cards that are fomatted to show more space then what they have.
I once bought an 32gig usb drive, it would look like everything that I copied was there, but would only play the first 4gig.
These mostly come from china. Like I said, do a search and you'll never buy memory off e-bay again.
Very good point, I completely forgot about that. Thank you so much.

Yo, easy as pie to fix this. if your SD card is in deed broken. Wally World (walmart) is your solution, go buy a San Disk 32 GB like yours then switch out the cards and return the faulty one. Thank you.
I'm telling ...
But to show my age, back in the early 80’s, when we were hacking drives to copy 5 1/4 discs, we'd burn out drives in a few weeks. So we'd buy a new one and swap out the internal components.

FWIW everyone I have seen with those issues the card has been formatted in exfat or whatever format phone uses by default. Apparently it corrupts something. You might try putting card in a computer and using a application to format SD card as fat32 and see if it helps?
I believe mine was fat32 from when I was using it in my incredible. Can't say for sure though. I will format this once though. It's a [email protected] when it goes all of a sudden, especially when it's hour 2 of 8.

I always format mine on the PC to fat32. I actually had a notification saying that the card was damaged. Dunno,I'll see if it happens again...
I've heard of this problem quite a bit but when I used an SD card in my GS3 I never had the problem.
I was using a Samsung microSD card.
Had the same card for a while. No problem here. Thing is my phone happens to randomly eject and remount the card every so often when I set the phone down.

The same thing happened to me, and a lot of other people in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856564
I got a SanDisk card, and got one of the "breathable" cases to keep things cooler, and I haven't had a problem since. Not sure if that's a real solution, but I'm happy with it
Now that I'm thinking about it, I remember that when I got this last sdcard, I formatted it to fat32 based on what I was reading. Not only that, it's a Sandisk, which half of the above thread stated to get. Now I'm really concerned that it's a hardware issue and I'll end up with someone's piece of crap refurb
Mine borked on me again this morning. (32 gb Sandisk cl10 fat32 format)Said there wasn't a card inserted and then after I pulled the card and re-loaded it,it said the card was blank or the data was un-readable. All my pics on it were visible in the gallery and I added some more thru out the day. Sometime this afternoon for no reason it seemed to straighten itself out and is showing up in storage. Other than cleaning the contacts on the card wtf-over?
Haven't had a single issue with mine, haven't even touched it since it went in when I bought the phone in early August. It's my old 16GB out of my Bionic so its nothing special
I am getting a message that says "SD card is damaged. Try reformatting it." Is this referring to my external SD card?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2
Yes just format it but you will lose everything on it.Everything
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
The way to find out is to either remove the external card or download an app to check the sd cards.
If you are going to format, try to copy the cards over to your computer first.
When I mounted to my Mac, only 1 card mounted ( the internal) instead of 2. I copied everything off and formatted it just for my own peace of mind. I then copied only what I absolutely needed back. After a reboot, i had the same error. I then shut down and removed the external card, and no more error messages. No great loss, nothing on there that I don't have a backup of already. I guess I need a new external SD. This one was only a class 4 anyway. Do I need to move up in class?

Upgrading classes isn't required. You can go out and buy another Class 4 or even a Class 2 if you so choose. The only difference is the write speed (4MB/s vs 2MB/s respectively). If you use an APPs2SD type app than a Class 6 card will be a good recommendation for you to get as it offers 6MB/s write speed which in turn cuts down on loading and saving times of any apps you use off the card.
But in terms of upgrading classes because it's required, it's not. Buy whatever class card you need or want to buy.
Hey guys, I just recently saw when I turned my phone on, it says sd unexpectedly removed, when in fact it is in there. If I take it out and re insert it, it doesn't say anything? Not sure, I had a 32gb card myself and it started acting weird on me. Doing th e are thing, acting like it wasn't there, needed formating or some such. I switched to my old 16gb card from my droid X and it worked perfectly. I think not was just a bad card. It's possible as the prices came down and these cards got cheaper the quality control has dropped. . I might add that that was my second 32gb card The first one wouldn't even work in my laptop when i tried to format it and got so hot that it burned my fingers when took it out!
Short Story is you may have a duff card. Try an old sd card just to make sure it's not your phone.

I had a generic 32GB card workinf for me perfectly from day one, but recently I bought a SanDisk 64GB and I can't get my phone to recognize it (my computer does), I'm thinking it has to be in the right format, which formats will the phone recognize and which won't it?
Try it in cwm. There is a page that does give info on partition and speed somewhere on the net.
Afterward, fix permissions.

Fat32 if you intend to be a rooted user
Fat32 is the stock format OOB and will work well with all devices.
Ext4 is androids partition for apps.

did a bit of googling, found a program that will format into fat32 format since windows 7 and 8 wont. finally works!
You connect it to the computer and open it, has to load the root, open a folder, has to load the folder, if you copy to a folder and then open a different folder while copying, errors occur... I'm surprised I don't see a lot of complaining about it. What made me want to write this is errors I am having with media transfer.... I haven't had many other Android devices but my last one was much better. Going through the device on my computer was like going through my computer's hard drive.
I prefer to use Airdroid to transfer files. Never was a fan of connecting by usb and now I don't have to. I generally transfer <700 MB so I'm good there. Anything much larger and I'll pull my sdcard in. Only plug in via usb when fiddling with Odin.

any time i have connected my phone to my computer, it loads and transfers files just as easily as any other phone i have owned. music, video, ROMs , etc... all transfer easy. not super fast, but easy.

I've actually never tried my hand with Kies or Android File Transfer. I figured Airdroid would be a better alternative to AFT since it actually receives updates. I know how Google is, they don't really seem to care for us Mac users too much.
