Droidwall Issue - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Anyone else having issues with Droidwall not actually blocking your internet data? It's setup right. Worked on my captivate, doesn't do a thing on the HTC One

works great for me. obviously you need to be rooted. i have only had one issue when re-enabling the firewall. it gave an error, asked me if i wanted to close app or wait, i chose wait, and it applied the rules.
what kind of error are you getting?
---------- Post added at 06:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:52 PM ----------
also, does anyone know what i need to enable on my '3g' connection to allow my phone to download MMS messages without disabling the droidwall?

Wasn't an error, just wasn't actually blocking anything. Found some posts that say the firewall programs don't play well with ICS if the limit function is used. Turned that off and it works again.

[Q] Can't get igo navigation to work

I was trying to install igo myway 8.4.3 on atrix 2. Downloaded the maps and pois to the contents folder. After I installed the apk, I launched it. However, it stuck on "starting". I did some google search, someone say it has to do with agps, I will need to disable that first. But I can't find agps, how do I turn it off?

tmobile wifi tether

So this isnt another "how do i tether my phone" noob question
However, how do i tether my phone(specifically to my hp touchpad)
Tmobile started blocking me saying i need to upgrade to their tether service
Barnacle wifi tether doesnt work
Android wireless tether for root users doesnt work
Im running miktouch 0.7 the native wifi tether doesnt work
I am not a I.T. guy but i can fumble my way around things i am reading about ssh tunnels but its alittle confusing at the moment especially setting up a ssh server
And didnt know if anybody has specifically set this up to run after being blocked by tmobile
Also some other ideas are to clone my mac address on the touchpad to my mt4gs
But dont know if that will work or how to do it.
Anyone have any thoughts on things to try? I think some people may still be able to tether using barnacle or what ever but i think its only a matter of time before tmobile blocks them to
So i just installed opengarden found in market place this seems to be working but its using a proxy server so browsing is slow but a possiblity for emergencies. But im sure there is a better option out there
Change the user agent string on your tablet or pc browser to match the one on your phone. I did this a while ago, and it works great. The only hitch is it will take you to the mobile version of some sites, which can be irritating.
---------- Post added at 07:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:46 PM ----------
go here on your phone, and copy down your user agent.
http://whatsmyuseragent.com/
here is how to change the user agent on Firefox
http://johnbokma.com/mexit/2004/04/24/changinguseragent.html
and here is a user agent switcher so you can switch between the phone user agent and the normal one. This is also for firefox.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/user-agent-switcher/
T mobile started blocking me almost right after getting the phone, and barnacle and the like wouldn't work for me either. When I asked this same question, everyone just told me to use barnacle. I know this works, because I did it, and still do it when my neighbor's internet goes down.
Thanks yellowjacket
It was as simple as that,
I changed my dolphin hd user agent to android and now tethering is fine. This also helps to know if i were to tether to a computer.

How to turn off the no location access pop up?

Hi there!
So i have a problem when i turn off my GPS that the no location access pop up ALWAYS shows...
I tried almost everything and nothing works.
It all started when a did a factory reset and cache wipe...
It's really annoying so anyone knows how ?
I have a Samsung S7 Nougat 7.0
The model is SM-G930F
Same here.
Android 5.1, 6 but not LineageOs (7.1.2).
Wtf is going on?
Help please???
This is serious, folks! It looks like Google is still trying to nag people into giving away their privacy! Stop ignoring these types of threads or acting like "Oh well, the world is going that direction anyway so get over it" type of nonsense!
@Up
Same problem. Like every 5 minutes! Android 6.0.1 Galaxy S7 SM-G930V.
Up
I did not do any kind of reset and it still started popping up. I think it was after I updated the google app or something
The screenshots seem to suggest that "Find my mobile" is enabled and looking for location
If your device is rooted, you can disable it using DisableService https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72454298&postcount=12

Thanks for the suggestion, but "settings" does not appear to know anything about "find my mobile."

I tried going into applications manager, then the Google app, and I turned off the location permission. We'll see if that works.

Lock screen and security > Find my mobile
It's possible this is region/CSC specific, 'Mobile' is the UK word for cellphone

OK, go back into the settings > Google settings > Security > Android Device Manager > Remotely locate this device
Uncheck what you want, see if that works

I started having this problem a few days ago, soon after I installed the waze app. I thought it was that, so I uninstalled it. But the pop up hasn't gone away, so it may be a coincidence.
The only way to avoid it popping up frequently is to enable location, which I don't want to do.
I don't have anything in my settings starting with "find" and I don't have any apps installed that should be trying to access my location all of a sudden.
Not rooted, so no luck there.
Galaxy S5 running 6.0.1 on at&t
This is driving me bananas!

Good suggestion! Unfortunately in my case, that option is grayed out and says unavailable because location services is turned off. So if it's Google complaining them that makes sense, but what is causing the pop up?
Could it be because I have the location history enabled?
I went to Settings -> Security -> Device administrators and disabled Android Device Manager, that got rid of this damn notification. Sad that I have to turn off a security thing just to get rid of a notification.
(Though I don't even have a Samsung, it's a ZTE, but the problem is the same)

Non root: How to use hotspot WITHOUT Data counting toward your Hotspot plan

This is based off a hack that @paul21122 made. that was shared here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-s7-edge/how-to/nougat-root-guide-tips-tricks-root-t3573195
basically i used to have the unlimited family plan for 9 years (Sprint) and it didnt come with a hotspot so i always rooted etc. Now i switched to a unlimited Freedom plan which includes 10 GIGs of hotspot
Well what i did was used the above link (see hotspot hack in above link) then when i turned on my hotspot i still did the toggle data deal like i had no hotspot.
i used the hotspot to watch Videos on netflix (on my PC) for 2 hours then checked sprint site for my hotspot use (Its at Zero still)
How to: after applied hack above
1 Turn on hotspot
2 toggle off data then toggle it back on and thats it. when your done just shut off hotspot
Remember if your hotspot is interrupted by a phone call etc RE TOGGLE DATA
You may want to use it and check sprint site for your own hotspot usage (to be safe) but for me its using all LTE and no hotspot data when done as shown above
UPDATE : after the 8/31/17 system update QH1, I checked again and did the hotspot then toggle data and watched youtube for 45 minutes. not one minute counts toward Hotspot data its all LTE only!!! Enjoy
Thanks again to @paul2112 for adb hack
You are the **** and underrated.

Thank @paul2112 he did the real work i just played with it and found the hole. But thanks !!
This still works through all updates and doesnt count 1 KB of hotspot usage. i went to Fla home and used 43 gigs not 1 KB was hotspot
AND my data doesnt throttle at all. i was pulling 120Mb dn 22Mb up 32 ms ping

How can i get this working with static ip from sprint? Static ip makes it so u have a nat type thats compatible with online play on Xbox ps4 and switch. I need it for the switch.

i dont think im allowed to link to google but i put that in the search and i got a few promising leads. most were ATT but the general idea should work with sprint. using a VPV might be one way. ill look some more.

It doesnt change your static ip it just makes the phone reconnect and use regular data use instead of hotspot showing activated and running (after you toggle data off, then on , While hotspot is turned on)

I added the static ip service to my plan on the sprint page, I just can't seem to get the hotspot working the only way it'll work is when I revert only but that uses up the 10 gb monthly hotspot limit and before I added static ip I was able to do the bypass and it wouldn't consume any of the hotspot limit, I want to be able to use the bypass and keep the static ip rather than removing it from my plan because that makes it so my nat is open for gaming online.

Does this work with other phones like the Note 8? Also, does it work with the Android 8 update?

You need to install QuickShortcutMaker from the Play Store. Look for Sprint Support menu. Tap on DataEditActivity and then Try. Navigate to the LTE menu, and look for LTE_Available file. There, you just press it and clear it.
The same thing happened to me, I saw this as a solution in another XDA thread.

I used PdaNet with WiFi Direct, setting up the proxy, and it works OK for web browsing.
FYI: On Android 12 for Samsung you can add a new APN under Access Point Names without jumping thru hoops. Just tap on add new APN (make sure to copy everything from original APN) and add dun to the apn type field. Save the update and now you have free Hotspot (data counts against your main data bucket).

How can I set up my phone to turn data off once I'm connected to WiFi?

Essentially I want to have WiFi on and data off at home and at work. I want my data on and WiFi off when I am not in either of those locations. I also want the switch to be automatic.
How can I go about setting this up?
Explore the app Tasker, it should have the options and rules to give you the solutions.

I figured that was my best option. I was hoping there was something on the phone stock that would do the job, and I didn't know about it. Thank you very much.
Actually you don't need to use any 3rd party tools.
Enable Programmers Options, go there and look for option called Mobile connection always on. Turn it off and you're done.
After that, whenever you're in WiFi, your mobile connection will be off, but keep your WiFi on.
Why do you want to switch off your WiFi when connected to mobile connection? Battery impact is minimal.
