why isnt this in the Q & A thread
best bet and will save you loads of battery is to:
1. take off back cover.
2. remove battery
3. put backcover back on and stare at it
maybe now feel proud how long this will save you wondering how long your battery lasts
Or u can stop beening lazy and search the sg2 section for a million time question and you would of found this BATTERY SAVING TIPS hopefully that topic will teach you how to make a coffee with an old nokia

Flash a new ROM/Kernel, under clock, under volt, turn off auto brightness, reduce brightness, turn off sync, use push notifications, etc.

Battery use

Hey bros I need to save more battery what can I do?

u can perhaps install the CM7 ROM (gingerbread)
that has given me phenomenal battery life.
other that that, you can do a quick search in the forums to see what others have done.

I second that motion. CM7 is great, and can give you even better life then it usually does with a little tweaking.
if you dont want to install new ROM your best bet will be juice defender from market.
powermax donate version works best for me.
also some settings..
turn off background data, bluetooth, wi-fi, turn off gps and also use wireless networks to determine location; unless you absolutely need your location.
I also use SetCPU, set to conservative.
I also configured profile, screen off = ~400mhz max and min = lowest available.
check settings>applications>running services..stop anything uneeded and uninstall, change app settings as needed.
I also turn off all keyboards I wont be using anytime soon.
turn display down below halfway, turn off all haptic feedback/vibration & blinking lights, etc.
sounds like a lot to sacrifice, but after a week or so, I realized it is best to have battery and just toggle things as needed.
hope this helps. there are more tweaks just search your devices forums.
peace.

All in one guide for SPEED - BATTERY - APPS FOR all HTC

Well frndz after going through small and scattered threads.. i have decided to make a step by step guide for all htc owners to get around simple problems on fone and battery issues
Introduction screen first
Usually when we fire our htc for the first time we all go through the setup screen here is what to do
1. During initial setup plz do not enter or enroll any accounts even google.
2. let the setup complete and bring u bk to the main screen.
3. Disable the option where it says back up my data with google coz of so many back up apps u really do not want to use this coz every time u'll reset it will again put all these bk up items back even though u thought of gettin rid of some.
4. Go to settings and first thing all must do is re-calibrate the keyboard as all have a different finger sizes and all have a unique way of using the screen this will ensure erratic screen behaviour.
5. Go to applications and select UNKNOWN SOURCE and under privacy tab unselect back up my settings and restore tab.
6. Go to A/C and settings and enroll the accounts u want.
7. u'll have a clean and smooth setup.
App storage
1. With coming of android 2.3.3 many users are facing a peculiar problem of icons on screen not refreshing to their icons after restart.
2. Most apps were written for froyo lately with 2.3.3 they run in compatibility mode also giving screen resolution problem in devices having res more than standard 400 x 800. This is not the fone related prob its app related issue which will b addressed shortly.
3. All smartfones today have ample amount of onboard storage, till the time the above issue is resolved its wise to keep the apps (only) on internal memory.
4. Apps stored on internal memory load and work fatster compared to those on sd-card merely coz of access times.
Battery caliberation
1. The devices are manufactured in bulk and batteries as well so due to shipping delay and unusual warehouse storage times .. al batteries degrade a little in terms of charging cycle.
2. When u receieve a new unit make sure before u fire it up plug in the power source and let it charge, this will ensure two major defects firstly, it will recharge the battery upto max 80 % coz of first time charge which will slowly increase to full potential after use secondly, it will make sure that unit is functioning properly with the supply battery.
3. go to settings and then go to wireless networks > mobile networks .. Disable "always on mobile data" this is enabled by default.
4. You will notice two options in network mode Use WCDMA only if u prefer using 3g (do remeber to switch back to GSM mode if u r not using 3g at particular time), for those who do not use 3g simply keep it to GSM mode. (saves a lot of juice).
5. Under location tab disable wireless location, to b accurate when u use maps use normal gps when required else keep that off.
6. as personal liking keep the Haptic feedbak vibration and key board viberation off... enable sound for that if u feel like coz sound will drain battery less than stupid viberations.
7. Those who receieve too many calls plz disable "pocket mode " in sounds and use a high pitch ringtome else same and continuous viberations will drain ur batt.
8. Make sure Intial 5 battery charge cycle (full charge & full drain) is used with the help of default wall charger not the usb. Rate of charge of both differes.
9. If u wanna make batt last a bit long try using less scrollable or sync widgets on screen as due to constant sysn they drain batt for no reason, use manual updates where possible.
10. Use advance task killer and use aggressive mode coupled with "when screen off" trigger. Add few luved apps in ignore rest let it kill when ever ur screen switches-off saving lot of undue fone usage.
11. All above steps will help make batt stay longer.
Common Do's & Dont's & Myth busters
1. More apps on fone does not make it any slower (TRUE).
2. Disable "Tell htc" under settings > about fone makes fone a bit zippy (TRUE it does).
3. In accounts and sync under htc sense tab disable auto update and select manual update coupled with update when opened.
4. Always use auto-brigtness.
5. Keep screen timeout to suitable 45 sec.
Useful Must have apps
1. App bk up and restore- Simple Fast Best (Both working style Non root & root).
2. Sms back up and restore- Multi cross android version app.
3. Advance task killer pro.
4. Titanium Backup
Well frndz let me know if this was useful will...keep updating it as well...[/FONT]

Guide to Maximizing Battery Life w/o Disabling Half Your Phones Features

*Disclaimer* This is all from a personal experience and testing/research from a long time android user, what I have discovered over time and has helped me and some friends. This will work whether your rooted OR not. I kept it as basic as I can so everyone can benefit. If you dont like what you read and disagree, or want to add something PM me, Ill change/add and give credit to you. Hopefully, this can grow with the community.
*Rooted Section Will be Added*
*When I charge my battery I usually drain it all the way down or as much as i can (around 20% left) then charge plugged in till green, then power down and charge for another hour or so. Not sure if this matters or not but seems to help me out try it!*
This guide will help you if your rooted or non-rooted, all the apps I talk about I honestly have no ties to the devs. I don't use any SUPER AWESOME AMAZING BATTERY SAVER 5000 apps or anything like that. Those mostly just turn ur radios off and on and kill apps in the background. In my experience a lot of them cause syncing issues with my e-mail and other notifications. I like to receive my information instantly not have an app waiting for me to turn my screen on to check for updates.
About my personal setup: Basically, I want my phone to last me all day but still perform well with a heavy use, WITHOUT needing to constantly change settings to save battery. With what I have here Im able to keep my Sensation running for a full day of moderate-heavy use (7:30am to around 10pm) with its STOCK battery (Did damn well on my Evo 4G too). Days of very minor use Ive gone into the second day with 60% + battery. Yes, I use all my home screens and have a good amount of widgets, I love sense and its widgets. I play games, surf the web, do a lot of texting, listen to a lot of music, decent amount of fbing and email, usually take a few pictures a day. Half my day is wifi/other is mobile data.
Here goes the real basics, mostly common sense here not trying to insult anyone. Feel free to browse thru it quick (green text) if your not totally new to the android scene, whats after it will be a good read for noobs and vets.
*I use the power control widget, make getting to a lot of settings quicker. Why waste battery digging thru menus?*
Basics:
-Screen brightness: (duh ) these pretty screens eat battery brighter=quicker drain naturally and from my experience leaving it on Auto Brightness kills more battery too. Each time your phone pulls information from the sensor to decide on how bright it should adjust itself too.
-GPS: If GPS is on it should not effect battery unless an app is using it and you see the GPS icon on your notification bar. I noticed a very slight increase in mA discharge when i had it enabled, to be safe leave it off if you dont use it extremely frequently.
Location thru mobile networks: Not to hard on battery. I leave mine on it does add drain but it takes away from my weather widgets updating when Im traveling.
-Bluetooth: Moderate battery drain. I honestly don't use it at all myself but if you do try your best to keep it off when not in use.
-Wifi: Android has gotten a lot better at managing wifi over the past few years. It doesn't drain that bad on battery and it shuts off/on periodically on its own when screen is off depending on whats using it.
Google Back-Up: Takes a little juice here and there no biggie. I dont use it just because I like to fresh install my apps when I try a new rom, run into less problems that way.
2G/3G/4G: This varies phone to phone, the slower speed the better battery life. If you know your not going to be using 4G for a while turn it off. I leave mine on 4G or wifi all day with my sensation. When I had Sprint and my Evo I would leave it off most of the time. Depending on your carrier and how their data works this is a big one. T-Mobile seems to handle well, Sprint and Verizon's 4G Ive seen eat an insane amount of battery.
Sync/Background Data: I lumped them together because sync is pretty much reliant on background data. These kill a lot of your battery in general. It syncs your apps (email, facebook, google data, contacts, etc.), the periodic checks your apps do to check for and download new emails and notifications, using background data (data still transmits when screens off). I always leave these on and still manage great battery life, I like things instant if I wanted to wait Id just wait till i got in front of a PC. Sync and Background data are the settings most battery saving apps control because they really can help your battery if you turn it off. You can control what core apps sync in settings>accounts and sync. Or the power widget that 95% of android phones have has it on there. I recommend minimizing the amount of apps you allow background data with, example: WeatherBug first launch it asks if it can automatically update itself in the background for apps were thats not necessary hit no.
Radio/Airplane Mode: Pretty self explanatory, turns off your connection to your wireless provider. No point in ever turning it off in my eyes, your phones no longer a phone.
What has really helped me with my battery life (non-basics):
There is a lot to be said when it comes down to 2.2+ android phones and whether they need a task killer anymore or not. Since Ive had a lot of android phones and a few now that are 2.2+ Ive done a lot of testing. I usually go about a 2 weeks on one idea or new task killer and keep a close eye on battery drainage using Battery Monitor Widget, free app in the market. It tells you exactly how much of your battery is being drained without killing battery itself. Each phone/rom settles at a different average mA lower the better. In my experience if I can keep my phone anywhere under 100mA when idle im doing good. This held true on both the Evo 4G and my Sensation. Some ASOP roms i could get down to the 30's but for sense under 100mA is good. Keep in mind you will get the occasionally spike here and there its just android and/or apps in the background. You can view the a chart of the battery data in Battery Monitor.
Instead of boring you guys with each task killer Ive used and its results, Ill just get down to what I found out in the end.
Basically, the way android 2.2+ works it really isn't necessary to run a task killer it does a decent job removing apps from memory when you need more memory. But at the same time I found running a task killer periodically (BUT not killing frequently used apps) results in a lower average mA drain leading to overall better battery life.
The best application I have used has to go Automatic Task Killer , trust me Ive used a lot from the top free ones to a few of the more popular paid ones. What this task killer does is kill a selection of apps you allow it too every time your phones screen shuts off and goes idle. On Automatic Task Killer's first boot your shown a screen of every application that could at some point run in the background on your phone. This part sucks a little bit but it is worth it, you need to select which of the apps you want to allow it to kill automatically. It does not kill foreground apps the ones you currently have open on the screen aka a browser or a game. Example your playing NFS: Shift and your boss walks by so you quickly pause and hit the power button turning off the screen, next time you turn the screen on it will kill all other allowed background apps but your game will still be up front and center.
Now the trick is to go thru and set it to kill apps you know your phone won't automatically just restart or you don't use 90% of the time. So don't select things like Dialer, Contacts, Clock, Calendar, Messages or apps you constantly use/check such as a third party SMS app or your main E-Mail Client or third party keyboards (various by person and what you use most). Letting the app automatically kill those is just going to lead to worse battery life because your phone will just restart it each time leading to more CPU cycles (not what you want and part of the reason some consider task killers bad things).
Also, when using any task killer and killing the proper apps sense runs smoother, a big deal with sense 3.0.
So hopefully with a little messing around you can get a good setup where your phone lasts you all day without having to constantly keep changing settings and watching your battery life. All while everything stays syncing and instant. Hope this helps!
*ROOT Section (now that we have s-off )
Everything posted above can be done on any rom, rooted or none. There has been a lot of posts on "freezing apps" that you dont need or typically use, which does in fact really help battery life. Since, we (by we i mean sensation users) now have a permanent root this is my tiny second part of the guide for rooted devices.
I dont freeze my apps I prefer them to be gone for good if its something I dont see myself using or its bloat that came with my phone/rom. Since 98% of us will be using custom roms now this usually isnt an issue since most dev's r good at what they do and remove all the bs we dont need or normally use. Still there is some apps we may not want on our phones so for that I use SystemApp Remover . Its a great App for people who dont want to have to worry about going in manually and getting rid of system apps.
Its just basically an Uninstaller that allows you to access any and every app on the phone for you to uninstall (thats y roots needed). For me I just go in an drop the apps I know i wont use. A lot of roms come with carrier add-ons and such, those I normally delete as well as a few HTC sense widgets and apps I see no need for. It will free up space and increase your phones battery life with most things you delete.
Now, be careful. You are prompted upon opening SystemApp Remover that messing in system apps is dangerous and it is. If your not sure what something is DONT touch it, simply do a google search or ask around to see if its safe to remove first.
Re-calibrate Battery: After you flash a new rom or start using a new battery, you should use your recovery (CWM or other) to Wipe Battery Stats. Before you do this make sure your battery is at 100% and has been on the charger for over an hour with the fully charged green led on. This will allow your device to better drain your battery and can really help battery life.
So hopefully with a little messing around you can get a good setup where your phone lasts you all day without having to constantly keep changing settings and watching your battery life. All while everything stays syncing and instant. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info, and for sharing, i will try the different methods
i havent really bothered with task killers but ive found reducing the brightness and disabling data and sync makes my battery last alot longer. i just re enable when i need them.
also, i downloaded setcpu and added a profile for while the screen is off. that helps alot. the drain is about 5% with the screen off after every 3 or 4 hours.
Very good info thanks

Full version is much better.
It's killer app indeed. I think many of it's features should be natively included in android.
Options like "Turn off 3G/EDGE when connected to Wi-Fi", "Turn off all radios when screen is off", "Turn off Wi-Fi after x minutes if it doesn't connect to a network", "Set screen brightess to minimal when battery is low", etc....it wouldn't be that hard to implement and battery life, perhaps most criticized aspect of Android, would improve immensely.

Your mobile network DOES turn off when connected to wifi, and if all radios turned off when the screen went off, how would you ever get calls or emails with the phone in your pocket? The wifi after x minutes would be a nice feature, but I don't like things touching my screen brightness.
Thank you for your information.

Hi,
In my little experience, there is no software that makes alot of diference, normaly what i do is:
disable motion
insert *#9900# and disable Fast dormacy - check is your network needs this
disable sync for accounts
disable GPS
disable wifi gps
disable wifi when not using
set brightness level to auto
set wifi sleep policy to when pluged in
Of course there are a couple more things you could do, and again this is what i do cant say it will work as good for you.
rooting.
Tasker
With it one can automate almost everything on the phone.
It's almost like programming i use it all the time and there are a lot of examples on this forum. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1110775
Juice Defender Ultimate + Battery Saver Pro (by Antutu).
I tryed a few battery saver apps but no longer use them as i found if i turn auto sync off, change wifi sleep policy to never, untick network notification, and use task manger frequently to kill unused apps my battery lasts a lot longer. I also use easy task killer and set it to kill all apps every 30 mins. im using king cobra v1.1 for evo 3d gsm and the battery life is amazing!! just swapping battery's over now and its nearly 9pm!!
If any one needs any help rooting or unrooting the evo 3d gsm hboot 1.4.9.0018 let me know as i have done it a few times now. I unrooted my phone back to ***locked*** s-on with no traces of rooting, then checked for ota updates, wouldnt of installed them tho even if there was one!! then downgraded back too 1.4.9.0007 and rooted it again with revolutionary.

forgot to mention auto brightness is a must. and i also calibrate battery after installing roms . can anyone please tell me if calibrating the battery every time it gets to 100% is good or bad? thanks.
When you use an xperia mini pro like me, with just 970 mAh, you get to try all possible battery savers... and unfortunetly no one of them makes the exception... actually as said evilchild, they don't make difference...
just disable everything that may drain your battery, your launcher effects too can be in cause, get rid of unuseful apps, put your brightness to lowest levels or just get it to auto if your rom use it... choose the best profile for your CPU... and with this you are good for 10 new hours in your daily battery life.
I'm not sure a 'battery-saving' app is real.
They just disable some features that we can manually do that. They just make it automatically disabled.
But, 2x Battery is good. It could disable Wifi or mobile data while the display is off.
one touch battery saver is awesome. create a widget to enable/disable wifi, gps, sync, brightness,bt,data ect with one touch!. free on google play

From the apps I tried out and used, almost all of them just disabled certain things, or tweaked settings that I could have done on my own, and eventually did do.
I found it easier to just go on a sub forum for the phone I had at the time and look up tweaks, tips etc.. I'd say doing this helped me more than any app I found previously, and was easy to do.
Dolphin companion is good and gives more remaining of time.
I use juice defender and the setting: "Only 2G"
3G takes a lot of battery..

None. There are no working saving battery apps, not a single one.
What a battery saving application can do is to change the phone configuration to a lower energy one, just like lowing brightness, disabling data packages and such, to sum up, things you can do by yourself and you'll save the battery that that application consumes.
The best way to save battery is to make a proper use of your phone:
-Disable gps when you don't need it.
-Turn off bluetooth when not needed.
-Keep screen brightness low at all time.
-Disable data packages before going to sleep and enable them again when you wake up.
-Keep your phone clean by periodically uninstalling apps that you don't use anymore and that make unnecesary use of memory, cpu and battery energy.
-Check your battery use statistics and keep an eye on applications that are using energy unefficiently, and replace them with better alternatives. Facebook and facebook messenger are clear examples.
-Some people say that connecting to 2G networks instead of 3G helps as well.
-Activate wifi at home, it seems to eat less battery than connected to 3G.
There are more tips out there, just gogle it and make a responsible use of your phone. Keeping phone clean and lowing brightness will probably make the biggest difference.
Moreover, if android S.O. is on the top of the list of battery use, your phone's software entered a weird condition. Reboot it and if it persist, consider a factory reset.
I hope this helps
I just started evaluating Juice Defender Ultimate to see if it can save battery life, but there are many options that I don't fully understand. I have attached a screenshot of the Notificatin pulldown window from my Galaxy Nexus which shows the JD status. There are 9 objects just to the right of the JD shield. They include 3 icons, 3 colored circles and 3 lines of text. Can anyone explain what each of them mean? I have checked the JD online info, without luck.
My best guess is:
the up/down icon represents mobile data
the red circle next to the up/down icon means mobile data is disabled
the radiation icon represents WiFi
the green circle next to the radiation icon means WiFi is enabled
the 3G icon represents 3g mode
the red circle next to the 3g icon means 3g is disabled and 2g is enabled
As mentioned, these are just my best guesses. I have no idea what the 3 lines of text mean?

MAXIMIZE the Battery Life of your Note 3 (Fix to Battery Drain issue)

Firstly, I want to say that this thread is based on the Exynos Note 3, not because it will work only for that device, but because it is the device I own at the time of this OP. HOWEVER, I can assure you that the tips in the second part of this guide, tagged 'IMPORTANT TIPS', would go for just about ANY device running android as the effects are similar. Now... Read On!
Since the MJ7 update was released, some Note 3 users have been experiencing weird battery drain issues, the MK2 update was also released and it didn't seem to fix it either.
While some users say a factory reset did fix their battery drain issues, many still have it after doing the factory reset, Me being an example.
I think the main problem is that the phone doesn't go into deep sleep.
So, I took sometime to research a fix and couldn't find a really solid fix, so I decided to go for the Next Best Thing, tweaks/settings.
Tweaking the phone in such a way that you maximize your battery use is what I will write about in this thread.
After tweaking my phone, I was able to hit 9hrs 30mins screen time with a total time of just over 1 day (24hrs), WiFi on ALL through. Not much Voice call time however.
On Mobile data, the tweaks won't give you this much time but still expect about 5 to hrs screen time.
How did I achieve this? That's what I will share below. But before I do, I will like to say that I have the Exynos Note 3 and this might be somehow targetted to that device (mentioned this earlier). However, if you have a Snapdragon Note 3 or any other Android device for that matter, I'm sure one or two things from this post will be helpful to you.
I will also say that 'Root' is quite important for some of the tips. If you are not rooted, you can just apply the ones that don't need root.
And For Non-Root users, Freezing App in TB can also be done manually to some apps by going into Settings > General > Application manager > All. Then scroll to the app you want to disable say Maps which is a HUGE battery drainer as i will mention below, select it then click the button at the left top which says 'Disable', I think it says 'Turn Off' in KitKat.
1. Factory Reset: I think the first thing to do first is Factory reset your phone, just maybe! That might work for you. You can also skip this step as factory reset is alot of work and might not be worth the stress in the end. But, I think a fresh start is always good once in a while NOTE: Backup your Internal SD to your PC or another flash media device FIRST if you decide to factory reset!
THE MAIN PART
=======================================================================================================
2. Kernel: Download a good Custom Kernel that also has the 'ondemand' governor. For Exynos Users, I recommend goodHanrry-kernel v2.0A (Used in first test)
Get it from his thread here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2569056
NOTE that this is still a JellyBean 4.3 ONLY kernel till date
OR
halaszk-UNIVERSAL5420 v0.6A (used in Second Test)
Get it from his thread here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2590320
I recommend v0.6A for Jelly Bean and v0.14B for KitKat or the latest Test for urself
Snapdragon users should try the ones they have too.. I'm sure they have some good kernels, like Perseus kernel but again i have Exynos Note 3 so try it for yourself.
3. Kernel Governor: Download SetCPU (paid) from here - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mhuang.overclocking
Go into SetCPU and change the Governor at the bottom left of the page there to 'on demand', then tick the 'set on boot' option in the middle so it will be applied after everyboot.
What the Governor 'ondemand' does is the CPU ramps up only when you actually need it. Hence the name Which also means that 'even if' you don't get good deep sleep, your CPU will stay at the lowest frequency, Saving you battery!
============================================================================================================
IMPORTANT TIPS
============================================================================================================
4. Greenify: EVERY rooted user must have Greenify! It's a fantastic app! It hibernates apps that you are not using so they never get to use your battery, yet the apps are available whenever you need them. No stress!
Download Greenify here - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify (I bought the paid version as it has more fuctions)
For those who don't know greenify or how to use it, it's simple! Only Greenify those apps you don't rely on for Push Notifications.
For example, don't greenify apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, Viber, Twitter, BBM if you expect to get notifications from them in the background.
Feel free to Greenify other apps like your games, adobe reader, dictionary, and the rest of them as you don't receive notifications from.
Starting from Greenify v2.0, even None Rooted users will be able to use Greenify Just without the option of Automatic hibernate, however.. It's still Great!
TIP: If you are a Non-Root Greenify user, I will highly recommend that you put the 'Hibernate Now' widget on ur homescreen so that you have one-touch hibernation. Just tap it before you lock ur screen or at anytime really. I'm a Rooted user and I made it a habit already! Tap then lock screen
Greenify is a FANTASTIC app!
5. Power Saving Mode: Use the Power Saving mode for as long as you can, I use Power Saving all the time. What this does is throttle ur CPU down to 1.4GHz (Exynos Note 3),
lower frequency naturally means more battery. The Note 3 is a pretty powerful device, so I even play games on Power Saving mode without issues. But if you feel you need that extra oomph!, then you can put it off before you play your games and turn back on later. For the more advanced users, you can make these more dynamic changes with apps like SetCPU or CPU Tuner.
6. Screen/Brightness: As we all know, normally the screen consumes the most power so if you can manage ur screen properly, u can get some extra juice. My advice on brightness is set to 'Auto -5'. However it is fine to use any other Value from -5 to 5 as you like it. Then you can set to a timeout range of 30s. Try to avoid using live wallpapers as it uses the GPU for the animations also AMOLED screens save more battery when you use dark wallpapers. Do that if you love dark wallpapers
7. GPS/Maps: Now, GPS is like the Number One drainer of battery and many many people don't know this. Here is what you do, pull down your notification bar, long press GPS there then make sure everything under GPS is turned off always! Leave turned off unless you need to use GPS.
Maps is also another app that drains battery in the background, I don't use maps at all, so I keep it frozen all the time using Titanium Backup.
But if you use maps, my advice is that you open up TitaniumBackup, look for maps on the list of apps, long press it and then convert to User app. Now u can Greenify it and it will still be available whenever you need it.
8. Google Now / Google+: Google now does drain battery, if you don't use Google Now, turn it off. Go into Google now, enter settings and turn off. I keep my Google now frozen as I never use it anyways. If I ever need to, I will unfreeze it. If you successfully handle numbers 7 and 8, you will not have issues with Google Services drain anymore! Unless you go traveling alot
Google+ is one app that drains alot of battery, if you do not use it much or don't need it at all, my advice is that you handle it. Greenify it or better still, Get rid of it.
9. Sounds/Vibration: Maybe not really a big deal, but those keypad/touch sounds do drain battery. It's fine to leave them on if you like em, but if you can do without, then do! Especially Haptic Feedback! Settings > Device > Sound. You will get the option there to turn them off. Including keyboard sounds and vibration
10. De-bloat: Samsung always loads alot of bloatware on their phones, the more the bloat, the more the apps running in the backgroud, the more the RAM consumed and in turn, the more the battery used! If you can, go into Titanium Backup and freeze as many bloatware as you are familiar with, don't touch anything you don't know. Lol. I always debloat any ROM I flash, so i'm quite familiar with the process. Anyways, just a heads up! If you freeze 'Magazines' for some reason your Stock Email app will crash whenever you try to open a new email or clear emails from the notification bar. Gmail app will work good, i decided to mention as my main email address is Yahoomail.
11. Reception: Believe it or not, reception is VERY IMPORTANT when it comes to battery life saving. If you have good reception, then it's smooth sailing and good battery, but if your reception isn't good then your phone is always always trying to reconnect your apps and services to the internet, over and over and over again! Trust me, this can take a serious Toll on your battery. If you notice my screenshots below, I have near 'PERFECT' reception. Notice the green Network mobile signal area in Graph. No blemish!
Here is how: Well, since i'm always on WiFi (have a pocket router).. I never need the '3G/HSPA' reception, so I set my phone to GSM/2G Only (Settings > More Networks > Mobile Networks then change Network mode to GSM Only). I'm using Exynos Note 3, so I don't have LTE, but if you are Snapdragon user with LTE, You can set to either just 3G Only as that should still be more stable than 4G/LTE, you can still set as above too, afterall you won't be needing the LTE connection when on WiFi.
All I said right now about Reception was complicated yes?
This App makes it simple - http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/themes-apps/app-intelli3g-2g-3g-4g-toggle-battery-t2580234
Haha!
Finally, I use Nova launcher now as I have frozen Touchwiz launcher. Nova launcher is fast, plus i LOVE me them Stock KitKat icons And I feel Touchwiz Launcher on MJ7 and MK2 does drain battery much.
(DO NOT FREEZE TOUCHWIZ LAUNCHER IF YOU DON'T HAVE A 3RD PARTY LAUNCHER INSTALLED! YOU WERE WARNED!) You will get Force Close unending
Having written all these, I know some of you will want to come on here and crucify me, because you disagree with one thing or another. But the thing is... I'm only trying to help, and this works for me! I only 'HOPE' it will help as many people as possible enjoy their phone even more
Here are screenshots of my Battery Stats, maybe they will convince you to try one or two things out You will notice that BBM still drains a chunk of my battery, but I can't do without BBM And Nova drains less than TW was.
CHEERS GUYS!

Pretty good post OP. I have already given some of these a shot. I'm unrooted. Rooted my note 2. Still unsure about the 3 as there isn't as much information on it.

I also think having perfect signal the entire time plays a large effect as well.

Yes! Bad signal can actually drain more battery. As applications dat need internet keep trying to reconnect.
I averaged 9hrs 32mins screentime with stock phone Not rooted and no special apps. Wifi the entire time with a Sprint note 3. Its all about your signal. The better quality signal the better battery life you will get. You can flash the latest and greatest roms and kernels but if you have a poor signal you will have poor battery life.

Actually, battery life depends on sooooo many things, signal, ROM, kernel (in some cases), apps installed, apps running in background, GPS use, screen settings, even down to little details like wallpaper funny enough lol. I believe I can think of a lot of stuff, however! Very true! Poor signal will also drain battery, out of experience I speak.
Afterall, My battery has sat at 100% for 9 whole hours on Airplane mode!
Yes you are right Google now drains a lot..!! I thought it was only me he he.. Even in airplane mode it drains .. Unbelievable.. Last night I just put it on vibrate and it didn't drain anything... last three days it drained 3% in 5 hrs in airplane.
Thanks for your advices man..

GO into Nova settings, then select Look and Feel. Then Icon Theme. Change from default to Google KitKat. Enjoy!
Why not just buy a new battery when it's wasted?

Battery is not bad, ROM bases are not too good. Mobile data drains A WHOLE lot than WiFi.
Snapdragon
Root
no tweaks / no kernel change
But only 3 hours screen on time
you can also buy yourself a Samsung Note 3 extra battery kit
you can charge that battery in the kit itself.. you'll have 2 batteries with 100%
it only costs 30euro / 41 dollar
Nice little post there!
Some obvious, but some pretty good tips. :good:

It seems 'Google Play Services' owns your device and not you! Disable GPS, Google Now and Maps if you don't use it and see that you will get ALOT better battery life

Lol. Yes. When I was writing it, i wanted everybody to understand it. Even someone who is using Android for the first time ever!
@stanley08 , I never did a factory reset on a droid b4, so how do I do it, what will I lose & how do I backup, though my concern with backup is I might reload some battery hogging data or settings which would result in waste of time & screwing around with a already set up phone.

This is the Wise thing to do. Do whatever backup you want to do, Titanium Backup, SMS backup, Call logs backup, Nandroid Backup, and any other backup you want to do. Then Create 2 folders on your PC. Name the first one Internal Sd and the Second one External SD.
Then connect phone to pc and open up ur internal sd, highlight all and copy to the folder on ur pc names Internal. Do the same for external sd, but this time... Copy your external sd contents to the other folder you named external sd. That is IF you have/use an external sd. For me, it is pretty convenient to backup my external sd as it is a 16GB one and only about half full at all times.
NOTE: Wipe data/Factory reset in Custom Recovery like CWM will NOT delete your files on the internal sd of your phone. It will only remove your installed apps and reset ur settings...
But wiping from STOCK SAMSUNG recovery will do the above and ALSO wipe your internal sd clean. And that is what is called hard format. Or hard reset or factory reset.
I advice that copying data to your pc should be the LAST thing you do before wiping anything. This way, you will be certain that everything you backed up is safe as they are either on ur Internal sd or external sd. CHEERS!
After reading all battery issues I have refrained from updating my phone. I am still on M900XXUBMI5 should I not update if the update has so much issues?
