[Q] Rooting - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well is anybody aware if DooMLorD or SuperOneClick will work w/ our device? We are on ICS and it appears these work with 4.0.

Please see this thread.

If you are already on .17 you will not need to downgrade.

Thanks, I had already read this. I think I will await a .26 version

Its easy to downgrade with vipermod i doubt a .26 version will be out soon

I would like a .26 root as well
I've been having constant errors with the adb.exe and not finding a solution for it, there are many others stuck in the same boat as me. So a 1 click root utility for .26 would be great.
Would save a lot of head aches.

[Q] Are there any viable root on a B80 with ICS yet?

I'm seeing a lot of old root methods or root methods for B70 or lower versions of the TF101. Are there any roots for the stock ICS firmware yet that is compatible for the B80?
ViperMOD can be use to root any tablet, regardless of the serial number.

Is this the official site? http://vipermod.tiamat-dev.com/vipermod-primer-tool-transformer-prime/
It says for the prime but I assume it works for the TF101?

That method was simple and effective. I'm surprised the mods removed it, because frankly, it looked like the cleanest way to root all current transformers on latest firmware.
Ok, thank you. I'm going to use that root method.
Edit: I ended up using viperMOD and it worked flawlessly.

Firmware update failed

I just purchased this tablet today and quickly rooted it. I've since tried to upgrade my firmware and its failed 3 straight times. It'll reboot and begin the update, then fail midway thru, leaving an android dude with an exclamation mark. Then it boots back up and gives a message that the update failed. If anyone can help me figure this out I'd greatly appreciate it.

Have you done the build prop tweak? Have You installed any of the themed apps? Have you removed any of the original files in /system?
For me, no, no, and no. All I've done is give it root.

even though you failed the update does the build version say .26?

I don't mind the questions heck I just appreciate the help. With root I've used AdFree and Root Explorer to change the stock email/exchange apk's for the hacked ones to bypass security. Nothing else.

So you did change system apks. That's your problem right there.
So the correct answer for a couple posts above is no, no, and yes.
Thanks, I restored my email/exchange backups but the upgrade continues to fail. I may end up having to return this but I appreciate the help.

Flash the .17 blob (and probably do a factory reset for good measure) and reroot. Don't touch anything else, and do the update. That should get you where you want to be. A lot of hassle, but I think it's the only way. You definitely don't need to return your tablet.

[DEV][WIP][UNBRICKABLE]Testing of Nvflash for TF700

While we're on a roll with TF300 release, we are now ready for further testing of TF700 nvflash solution
As usual there are a few requirements :
Unbricked device
Running any TF700 rom/bootloader
Able to use fastboot/adb
Must be unlocked, officially
MUST NOT BE RUNNING TF300 JB BOOTLOADER
NOTE: Latest update prevents this! If you're on 9.4.5.30, you can't get nvflash
There is some risk involved, but we have already tested it on one TF700 and cross-tested on TF201's. It's also based on the same stuff as TF201/TF300, so the ideas are fairly ell tested by now.
Interested testers should connect to freenode IRC and join #asus-transformer and poke me (rayman). We'll provide all files requires and both windows & linux users are welcome to join us in testing.
A quick primer on what nvflash is:
A way to move back and forth between any update/rom/bootloader
A way to unbrick once you have your files (Recovery from *any* software brick, incl. bootloader bricks)
A way to root any rom

hmmm has anyone tried flashing back to .26 from .30 yet or do they always block downgrading the bootloader?

Sadly, theory != practice
In 9.4.5.30 for TF700, they appear to have the same prevention code that the TF300 JB rom has.
So no downgrades for now Hopefully someone will find a way, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Testing is done. We have all the testers we need.
I'll make a new post when we do the final release
Thanks to everyone.

[TOOL][BRICKPROOF]TF700 NVFlash release!

Nvflash for TF700 is now among us!
This release allows unlocked devices to create a set of device-specific files that lets you access nvflash.
Once the procedure is done, you will always be able to recover any software brick (even bootloader!) as long as you keep your files safe!
NOTE:
THIS REQUIRES A NON-BRICKED AND UNLOCKED DEVICE. IT WON'T WORK ON ALREADY BRICKED DEVICES
THIS ONLY WORKS IF YOU HAVE A PRE 9.4.5.30 BOOTLOADER
More details at http://androidroot.mobi/?p=492
Important note: License: Due to the nature of wheelie and the importance of people always using the latest version, Wheelie is NOT redistributable! You are allowed to download it and use it, but you are not allowed to redistribute it in any way - this means no GUI's including it, no reposting zips/tar.gz's and similar! At a later date, we will be releasing our source code and relicense it as GPL.
Enjoy

Thanks for your work. I was waiting for it to try new ROM.
Unfortunatly I have already received the .30 update
For my information, what render impossible the use on nvflash on .30
What probability do we have to see nvflash working with .30 ?
Great news! Thank you guys for your great work, you did it again. Also i think is time for us ( users) to show some appreciation for this and start helping Androidroot.mobi devs with some donations ,they truly deserve it,and not only for the tf700t work but for all their work on the Transformer line .
Wonder if they'll call it a day or try to get a method working for newer bootloaders as well.

We're obviously looking at options. Note that once a device has nvflash accessible, you can update all you want to any rom/bootloader etc.
They can only prevent creating the blobs, not using them.
Bad timing indeed for me too...

Is it possible to use nvflash if I've already installed .30 update but I'll make downgrade with command dd if=/Removable/MicroSD/blob of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4 and blob from .26 update?
As far as I know once on .30 update you can't revert to do nvflash

that's how people with the transformer and prime have revert theirs. however, the .30 firmware supposedly has the same check in it that prevented the tf300 jb bootloader from being downgraded.
Just completed this.. thanks a lot!!

Is there's any way to know which bootloader I am running? The first rom I've installed is the Zeus v4 one.
Thanks

Unlocking/Rooting with current JB firmware?

Is there a way to Unlock or Root the TF700 with the current JB firmware? My TF700 came stock with JB, and it seems like Asus took down the links to the ICS firmware on their support site.
As others have said in various threads, you can be on JB and unlock no problem. It says ICS only but Asus are just lazy and haven't updated their site. I unlocked on JB and everything is fine.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using XDA Premium HD app.
So after that i'll be able to root it no problem?
Correct. I just did it last night and everything worked fine. Unlocked and rooted on latest 4.1.1 JB!

New TF700 owner here.
Curious to getting root w/o unlocking it? I looked at some other threads and only talk about keeping root while upgrading etc.
So far loving this tablet, the dock makes it 100x more useful when you need it.

As far as I know, the only way to root it without unlocking the bootloader is if you have ICS and just use the debugfs command program, as far as rooting with JB I know you have to have the bootloader unlocked. In all honesty I don't mind taking the risk of unlocking my bootloader because I have Geek Squad Protection on my tablet and can just get a new one for free.

You should use TWRP 2.3.1 instead of 2.2.2.3, which he reccommends, though. They have fixed the issues he talks about.

I'm wanting to take the plunge myself - but do you have to use the Asus unlocker tool or is there a way around that? I'm too late to get SquareTrade I think. Too late, and too poor LOL. I just have that nagging feeling that as soon as I do the thing will bork on me.
Edit: Sorry...I just read that you can't unlock without the ASUS tool, and it's a damn shame. I want so bad to rant right now but I won't.
I think I'm still going to unlock though.
The only way I could find to root was to install CWM recovery first, and then install the CWM SuperUser app. I replaced CWM with TWRP when all was said and done. Both are now touch interfaces making things so much less laborious. The links for doing so are all around the web and these forums. I had my frustrations but in the end it was easier than I thought it would be. I'm happy I took the plunge. I believe a lot of my frustrations were from ASUS' horrible implementation of Android. My benchmarks are now 6300+ on Quadrant with 2D GPU rendering on. I know benchmarks aren't everything but, you won't be sorry if you're giving up some kind of warranty to get the device you paid premium dollar for.
