Noise and bootloader issues.... - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I'm loving my new HTC one x but have found a few issues that aren't life threatening just curious lol.
1. most important is there a new trick to get to hboot? I tried the power + volume down method with no luck. My soft keys at the bottom don't even flash as I have read in other posts happens.
2. If you hold your phone up to your ear and give it a shake it seems something is loose. Immediately thinking micro sim I removed it and shook again but noise is still present. Anyone else confirm?
3. What the heck are the five silver sensor like things on the phones back for? I've read and read even the HTC website doesn't mention them. Antenna?
Thanks in advance for any answers.
Edit: I have a stock AT&T one x, fast boot is off.

I also have the #2 issue - even if I hold the volume and power buttons I still hear the noise. On other phones in the past similar noise has been from the camera shutter, not sure if this is the same.
#3 = The pins on the back are "POGO" pins for phone docks/mounts.

Yea I think #2 is camera.
Pogo pins huh never thought of that lol.

1. Only way to do it
2. Sound of the shutter
3. pogo pins for accessories (different from HOX international)

Entering bootloader is definitely harder than any other phone I've had but here's a little trick to try when phone is on press and hold the power button until the menu pops up select restart then hold the volume button down keep holding the volume down until the phone reboots into bootloader.

Don't forget if you power down your device it goes to "sleep".this is to allow" quickboot" In order to get into bootloader on other htc phones you needed to take out the battery and it shuts it down fully, now on this phone you need to hold the power button for 10 seconds /5 capacitive button flashes and it give you an option to shut down device... Once you do this and the device is off (just like a battery pull) press and hold power and -vol (down), that will bring up bootloader... Hope this helps

Can't you go into settings and disable quickboot just like in every other HTC Phone to date? (HTC One S, Amaze, Sensation, MyTouch 4G, Evo 4G, etc) I know from personal experience all of those have a quickboot that can be disabled.

[Q] not waking after call

Hi I have a problem with my Desire S. Recently got update now I when I receive a text or call when it next sleeps it will not wake when I press the power button.
If I pull the battery out it reboots fine and if I plug in the power cable it wakes up but not from the power button and its not exactly easy to just quickly slip the battery out of this thing.
I've done a hard reset (volume power button thing) but the problems still there has anyone any ideas for a fix.
Wondering about how to go back to last version is it possible?
You should be aware that it's extremely risky removing the battery from a running phone, there is a real chance that you'll damage the phone permanently
Sounds like your power button could be damaged, some roms enable the phone to be woodmen up using volume button, the one I'm on, see sig

This problem occurs frequently endymion 3.4 after call or even if the call was not successful. It seems the problem is with proximity sensor. When I swipe my finger over sensor or show light over sensor area it wakes up but not always.I do not face this problem with other aosp ROM.
Left field, do you gave a screen protector? This can effect they proximity sensor

Anyone finding their power button mashed down?

I've had my One S since it's come out, always keep in a case and I've noticed it's been harder and harder to push the power button down to wake it up.
I see Expansys has a replacement sim cover here http://www.expansys-usa.com/htc-one..._productfeed&gclid=COvFrtXItbACFUMCQAodJx8-7g
This should include the power button mechanism but I'm not sure if I'm ready to spend $20.
And I certainly don't want to go through the hassle of a replacement from TMO.
Anyone else having issues? Are there possible solutions?
I dont know if there are any solutions, but I notice a difference too from when i first got it to now.
I had the same problem occur to me on the HTC Sensation.
Might just be wear and tear from how much you keep on pressing the button. A solution to slow down this 'wear and tear' would be to unlock the phone by means of the softkeys or volumekeys.
Just to add gas to the starting flame: the Nexus 1 had massive widespread power button failures...
how do you unlock from the volumerocker or soft keys?

The Sensation had a feature in some custom ROMs called Swipe-to-unlock, basically you swipe your finger across the softkeys and the screen turns on. Swipe the other way to turn it off.
But I'm not sure if this is also on One S ROMs
i had to exchange 4 of them for various reasons and only my last unit has a perfect power button that still works as new. but it would be great to have swipe-to-unlock just because how tall this phone is.

Yep, Swipe-to-Unlock is a great option! Hope to get it for our One S soon, and as sources are released, we'll probably get this option with some custom Kernels or additions...
Don't know if a "soft" solution is really good, but it will eat some battery for sure as the system is "waiting to be touched" and not really sleeping as it should be. Some has huge drain, some not... But I didn't test all these options, and not sure that they work with our phone.
Another popular solution for the sensation was using the Volume + button hack to wake the device.
I never had that issue with my sensation and after one month with the ONE S my power button still works fine.
(On his sensation) A friend of mine placed a small piece of paper under the power button to raise it and it seemed to work for him, maybe you can try something similar?

Reducing use/wear of power button to prevent fail

The power button is one of he captivate's weak points. I started looking at ways to reduce use of it to head off the problem before it happens. I'm interested to hear what, if anything, others may have done.
Here is my list so far:
1. use a case, such as otterbox commuter, that keeps the button clean and perhaps softens the impact when pressed.
2. use Rebooter app for reboot, reboot to recovery, and power off.
3. In JB, add the screen lock function to the notification bar. I often lock the screen before putting phone in my pocket after use. instead of power button, I tap the icon.
4. in JB, enable the volume rocker wake function. use volume keys to wake the phone.
Locking/unlocking the screen probably accounts for 99% of my power button use. so items 3 and 4 reduce my power button use the most.

To add to this list: Capacitive buttons in recovery.
Imo, case is probably the best solution. The power button is fairly opened to dust/dirt and such. On top of that, if dropped without a case, you multiply your chances of breaking something.
I must say though, I own 2 captivate (both bought about a year and a half ago) and never had any button problems. They have been dropped and got dirty but pretty much always have a case so either I've been very lucky or those cases actually make all the difference!
Button savior also helps.

Is the power button really such an Achilles heel when it comes to the cappy? I've had mine for over 2 years now, it's used every day, has no case on it and it's been working great... so far.
Is this something that just "fails" or does it actually have to break?

Hope you didn't just jinx yourself. It will just fail one day as that's what it did to me. On the bright side having volume rocker wake on ever rom and most roms now including a go to sleep toggle for the notification drawer its easy to work around.

Screen off and lock (free in the play store) will save your power button. No root required.
There are kernels with "touch2wake" that will turn your phone on by touching the capacitive buttons. This of course requires, root, unlock, custom Rom.

I'm on my third Cappy (warrantied) and the first one suffered from the power button death. It was less than a year old at the time. It would work intermittenly at the end and finally quit. I tried taking it apart and spraying electrical cleaner in and around with no success. I had to resort to apps to lock the screen and wake with volume buttons. Hopefully this one will hold out till I'm up for upgrade in March.
I never had any issues with my captivate buttons, but I replaced my nexus S twice, in less than six months, due to a shoddy power button. I'm steering clear of Samsung for a while.

Going on 2 yrs too. I drop mine all the time and am shamefully careless with my cappy. It just keeps on going. I do have a seemingly dead or choosy HDMI port but its probably from my toddler sucking on the Phone a few times.

Cappy. NS had the shoddy power button. Actually, I think I've had my cappy for closer to three years. My brother in law had a cappy and beat the snot out of it and it still worked. Pool twice, dropped from scaffolding, countless drops, and it kept going.

I swimmed with mine in a pool for about 20mins. Get out of water, freak out a bit, take it a part so it can dry in the sun (not too long), put in bag of rice for 48hrs = Cappy is still running like a champ! Been dropped quite a few times too but has a case. :good:

[Q] noise-like screen?

Hello, I recently had my HTC One XL cracked screen replaced, it was running fine but now I'm getting a screen that looks like below... What's going on? I doubt it's the ROM but I'm not sure.. It was running fine, bluetooth was working, I was still receiving calls/sms and I could listen to music, and if I slide across where the lock slide is, it vibrates as if I unlocked it like normal and I could turn the screen on/off... However I couldn't turn it off at all, it would just keep turning back on whenever I tried.
Now it's just stuck at that screen after trying to restart it.. I don't think any functions work but I'm not sure as my phone died...charging it right now
I am running Viper ROM 3.1.0.
Thanks!
EDIT: I just turned it on... None of the functions are working, can't even turn the screen off...it's just stuck at that screen until battery dies..
Anybody able to help? Still the same... :\

I know how to get into bootloader, you asked me if I could
It does not load into bootloader, as soon as I press the power button, that's what I see until the battery dies... If I hold the power button to turn it off, It will turn off for 3 seconds, and reboot on its own until the battery dies!
When it shuts off press and hold the vol - until it turns on. Plug into your pc, press power button one time (like you were selecting "bootloader" option if screen was working) and run fastboot devices from cmd. Chances are, if its powering on at all, you can get to hboot whether you see it on your screen or not.

Hmm, for some reason, now that I try to go into bootloader, it won't power on until I let go of both buttons...and in about 5 seconds, it powers on itself with the same screen...nothing happens when I push power, nothing happens when I plug into my pc. The only thing I could do is turn the phone off for 5 seconds before it turns itself back on until the battery dies..
I'm trying to use the HTC One X AIO Kit by Hasoon2000 v2.0 to get it to boot into bootloader or recovery, but it reboots into the same screen.
This is what my CMD says when I click on do command boot into recovery or bootloader:
error: device not found
Use a credit card and pop it out of its shell and check all the connections. This is the 3rd time ive seen this in the one x forums, all had screen replacements. Dont remember the outcome, if any.

Also the toolkit isnt going to do anything if debugging wasnt enabled, or if it isnt booting all the way into /system. Use cmd and try fastboot devices.
Added: looked them up. Its no doubt hardware related. If under warranty send it in. If not pop it apart and look at ribbon cables and snap connector

Hmm, is there a guide or images to help me do this? I doubt it's under warranty because I repaired the screen at a local repair shop. If I pop it out, I don't have any kind of glue or whatever they use to hold the screen back down, and I have no idea what I'm doing, I might mess it up even more
Thanks a lot though, at least I know it's a hardware issue
EDIT: I found a YouTube video on disassembling it. Will I need to disassemble the entire thing?
Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8SpHbhzLgU
Dont try and pop the screen off the actual phone is just inside of that nice plastic body. It pops out. Heres a vid I made a while back.

And call the shop who did it and ask wtf......im guessing all these are related to being cheap replacement screens the shops are using.

Yeah the shop was horrible, I had the worse experience..so bad I had to rage and write a review on them...
From your video, I'm not sure which part I'm suppose to pop out... I see a black outside layer around the white plastic boarder of the phone, and on the other side I believe is the actual LCD.. they're both sticking out of the white cover of the phone and I could pop them both out lol, but I'm guessing it's the outside and not the screen.
I'm going to give it a try now, wish me luck :X
Its all one piece, dont pry the screen by itself, it will shatter. Imagine the white/grey plastic as a very nice phone case. All you need to do is get the phone out of its case

This is correct. But if it doesn't work physically disconnecting the battery for about a minute could help also. I recently had a vivid that was acting all stupid and after trying all the tricks, I removed the battery and everything has been fine. Probably static electricity in my case. If you are still under warranty don't open it up though to remove the battery, it will void your warranty, just get it replaced if you still can't fix.
