[Q] question about flashing HTC 7 pro US cellular CDMA - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Here is my question I have an HTC 7 PRO (aka HTC ARRIVE,HTC GOLD) the model is HTC USCCHTC-PC93100 I have a student unlock but I need a full unlock. I am new to rom flashing on windows phones im used to jailbreaking and rooting android and ios. I was looking at try to flash this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1499981 to my phone what I want to know is is it possible to flash this to my model of HTC and if I do flash it will it will I have to take my phone back to US cellular to have them reprogram the phone to their network or will it work just like normal after flashing any adive would help thanks.

Do you have a GOLD (also known as the 7 Pro) or a GOLD_C (also known as the Arrive)? The GOLD is a GSM phone, and won't work on Sprint or any other CDMA carrier. The Arrive is a CDMA phone and won't work on T-Mobile or any other GSM carrier. Flashing the ROM won't help here, either - this is a hardware issue (literally, the radios are different, plus GSM phones have SIM card slots and CDMA phones usually don't). Do *not* attempt to flash a GOLD_C ROM to a GOLD or vice-versa; it'll probably fail but if it doesn't you may make the phone unusable and unrecoverable short of using a JTAG connection.
However, if you want to flash a GSM ROM to a GSM phone, or a CDMA ROM to a CDMA phone, go ahead. However, that won't remove the SIM-lock if there is one. The odds are, if the phone can't be activated with your preferred carrier right now, re-flashing the ROM won't help.

US Cellular says its a 7 PRO but model says 93100 which is the arrive it doesn't have a sim slot so it is a CDMA and DFTs XSPL Tool says its a GOLD_C it has spl version 4.1.230513.1 I have tried the spl downgrade tool but it fails at 4 percent and says invalid vendor ID but if I did manage to flash it would if have to be reprogramed by us cellular to work again since its CDMA and not a sim card

I ran a system information tool and it reports the phone as the HTC arrive so I'm not sure why us cellular markets the phone as the 7 pro but it is definitely the HTC arrive gold_c with a sol of 4.3

Try to flash the older version of your US cellular radio (download from the website in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427907)
And then try to flash it, using the directions listed here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295068
In other words, you want to downgrade your SPL with just a radio flash (task 00). It is not necessary to flash the whole ROM. (Or you can do a hard reset - no big deal, as you will loose all your stuff anyway if you do flash a new ROM)
Then, you can go ahead and try to change RSPL and flash the ROM to see if it works. If not, not big deal, can always flash back your stock rom (also avail on above web site)

I have managed to downgrade my htc arrive us cellular spl and I used the xspl tool to install rspl and hspl now is it possible for me to flash this rom image: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1499981
the only thing is the rom image says gold_c_sprint and my carrier is us cellular will I be able to flash this and use the phone like normally or will I have to take the phone back to us cellular after flashing and have them set the phone back up with there network

I have managed to flash my phone with the rom I posted and it still works but all branding on the phone is now sprint is there any way to get the branding back to US Cellular via reg edit for warranty purposes I have went into
HKLM\System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo\ and changed mobile operator to USC-US which is US cellular
I also changed the MODeviceName into USCCHTC-PC93100 which was the original name of the device. but im not sure if there's anything else that need to be changed and I cant figure out how to get the marketplace back to the us cellular marketplace they had apps that were only available when it was set up with us cell

I would be careful of changing things in DeviceTargetingInfo; poke the wrong setting and your Marketplace (and all apps installed from it) can stop working or your phone may receive an update that damages it due to an incompatibility with a prior update from a different MO or something.
There is a "Marketplace Config" app available that allows you to select the OEM and MO marketplaces. On a GSM phone, the MO marketplace is usually automatically switched depending on the SIM card (this switch may take a day or two).
Another option would be to start with the US Cellular ROM, and customize it with full-unlock and any other changes you want. This is not my area, though; I have no real experience with creating custom ROMs but there are entire sections of this forum devoted to the topic.

that might be what I have to do is just make a custom us cellular rom Ill look for a section in the fourm to see what I can find on how to make a custom rom

please give me link for us cellular raido
I have htc 7 pro aka htc arrive gold c mobile which is us cellular and I have spl 4.1

Help with upgrading / ROM ...

Im currently living abroad in Germany and have purchased a Kaiser via T-Mobile, branded as MDA Vario III. Well I love the device but my german sucks and the whole OS is in german. Is there anyway I can flash to ROM to get an english version of the OS? If I did this would it still work in Germany via T-Mobile or is there some kind of lock to the current ROM? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Yep! Just HardSPL, and then select an English ROM (most are) and flash.
Read the Sticky in this forum for guide lines on how to flash, and common problems and thier solutions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1846653&postcount=800
Go there and READ and READ. (Read the Wiki first). You will find all your solution there. Everything you need explained over there.
I will describe the procedures you will need:
1. Back up your stuff
2. Charge up your phone to 100% and connect to your pc with usb make sure ActiveSyn can see your phone
3. CID or SIM unlock your phone first if it is necessary then.
4. HardSPL your phone (You can find the information in the Wiki)
- If you encounter White Screen Problem, check the HardSPL White Screen
Issue - Solved!
5. Find a Rom that you like
6. Find the radio rom that rom supports
7. Flash the rom
8. Do a HARD RESET when you see the "Tab the screen to setup windows mobile..."
9. Flash the radio rom
10. You are DONE!!!!!!!
As long as it's GSM band, then it should all work. You might have to manually setup the 3G network for Germany on your phone.
Thanks for the feedback! My main concern was not knowing if it would work with my carrier after I do the ROM.
However the 3G network is a BIG deal 3G is soooo much faster than GSM. Is it even possible to manually setup the network afterwards?
Thanks again, you have been great!
you can always setup your 3G network manually afterwards. It's just a different rom version. It's like you install English version of Winxp on your PC instead of the German version. You can still setup your wireless connection for your PC.
Sine you are in Europe, I would suggest you use Dutty's WM6.1 Rom (The bluetooth has a bit of issue - not able to receive file transfer, but he's working on the RTM version with the fix). Dutty's rom is cooked based on the Vodafone rom (He's in England), so I would suppose there should be pre-set 3G setting for Germany as well.

Kaiser (ATT Tilt 1) ROM/Radio question

I was reading the Wiki/FAQ and found this thread and still have some questions on the ROM Radio configuration.
I have a tilt I got from work and the reception is attrocious, so I am under the impression that the ATT ROM and Radio have more affinity for the ATT network than Tmobile (which is my guess because my old Wing had much better signal). What I notice from the list of Kaiser ROMs (on the Wiki) is the only official Tmobile ROMs are for the Netherlands and the UK. My guess is that I wouldn't want to load those since I live in the US, plus the official OS build is 19124 in the ATT tilt instead of 19212 in the other builds.
My question is: Can I mix other Radios to better work on the Tmobile network? Do I need to clear my ROM from the official ATT to another HTC ROM? Does the ROM clear the Windows build so there wouldn't be a compatibility issue, or does it only work for the cell phone service (device communication portion sort of like a DOS on windows 98) and therefore the OS build is independant of the ROM and Radio? Do ROMs and Radios need to be properly paired or can I trial and error it?
I've been looking for some of the answers but the weren't overly appearant from the FAQ and Wikis. Hopefully I didn't gloss over the easy answers somewhere on the site.
Any thoughts? I can start doing the trial and error method, but if I can get some confirmation that I won't brick my phone that would be awesome. Also, if there is any general "method to the madness" in terms of trying the Radios out, I would appreciate it.
This is where you should start:
Flashing Your First Kaiser Rom
The most important consideration for flashing any phone: MAKE SURE YOU HARD SPL (if you are using a Tilt, I recommend 3.56 as that is what AT&T officially used in their last ROM). That way, if you screw up a flash, you can just flash to another radio/ROM without worrying about bricking your phone. Press the Camera+Power button+use your stylus to reset the phone to bootloader to see if your phone is already Hard SPL'd. You should see a 3.28, 3.29, 3.34, or 3.56 at the top left of the screen when the tricolor screen pops up; you can just reset your phone after looking to get back to your OS). If, and only if, your phone is Hard SPL'd, read on...
>Can I mix other Radios to better work on the Tmobile network?
Of course. For example, I am using the emobile radio (1.71.09.01) on my Tilt. See: The Ultimate Radio Thread for more.
>Do I need to clear my ROM from the official ATT to another HTC ROM?
No, you can flash the radio only if you want.
>Does the ROM clear the Windows build
Not if you're flashing just the radio.
>...and therefore the OS build is independant of the ROM and Radio?
The OS build is independent of the radio. Best to think of the ROM as the OS, and the radio as how your OS communicates with your phone...
>or can I trial and error it?
That's the whole point of flashing just the radio--finding which one works best for you.
Thank you for the information. I verified the Hard SPL (3.56) so it looks like I am good on that front.
I just want to verify something you said before I actually do this (since the RUU tutorial told me ROMs can brick my phone and you mentioned Radios are similar in that fashion). The radios listed from the Ultimate ROM/Radio Thread are listed by WMx.x version, not by the associated ROMs. Since I am using the officially released ROM from ATT my version of WM is 6.1, therefore any of the Radios under the 6.1 header are available for flashing to my phone.
Is that correct?
Thanks again and in advance.
Anyone know of a new link for the latest Hard SPL 3.56? I keep on trying to download on rapidshare and I am denied (cause I am a non-subscriber). If there is a mirror that anyone knows of I would appreciate it. I keep searching around and cannot find one.

Will Sprint Hook up a TP2 w/ Custom Rom

Hello All,
I have a TP2 I am going to hook up that was just taken off the network. It is fully unlocked with a custom rom & 2.23WU radio.
Question is will they hook up a phone with a custom rom if I call them? Also, if I need to flash it back to stock rom will I loose the unlocked GSM radio? Reason I ask is the stock rom has 1.96WF radio in the title which I know is a locked version.
Thanks,
Force
i would think as long as it's a sprint phone with a clean esn, it wouldn't matter which rom it's running.
All you need to give them is your esn #, i don't see how they can tell what rom you are using or if the gsm sim is unlock or not. Just go ahead and try, i don't see the harm.
Cool, Thx guys
One time I had a TP1 and sold it on ebay and the guy said sprint was having problems hooking it up, I know it had a clean ESN,
He flashed to stock and they hooked it up NP.
Later,
Force
They may ask you to use the "Update Profile" software that comes in Sprint stock roms, and depending on your custom rom, that software may not be included.
Never mention is has a custom rom to them. They won't honor the warranty if you do
NEVER mention to any service provider that you "hacked" your phone, as stated this will guarentee you A voided warentee. I would also guarentee they will certainly not hack it for you.
just make sure when you hack it to backup your stock rom. that way if something were to go wrong and your Rhodium would need serviced you can stock-ah-fy (yeah, I said it) it. One look at a flashed Rom and they will tell you that you're S.O.L.
So they hooked up the phone and sure enough just like the TP1, the voice works, but no data works.
It is running latest NRG Rom 2.5, Same thing happened with Mighty rom on the TP1 a year or so ago.
Any ideas, maybe use the provisioning app on it?
Thx,
Force
Yes, you should run the provisioning app located in the Start Menu\Programs\Tools folder.
There was a new NRG 2.5 Sense Cookie HomeTab ROM released on June 27th. I'd suggest you reflash to ROM to the newest one on your phone rather than relying on something the previous owner flashed.
Also it's advised to do a Task29 clear. (Search for it in the PPC Geeks thread dedicated to the Touch Pro 2 CDMA NRG ROMS: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=86489 )
Plus the recommended unlocked radio for the CDMA Touch Pro 2 is the 2.32.00WU version found in this thread http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=106571 on PPC Geeks.
I've found that PPC Geeks is where the best support for the NRG ROM and unlocked radios for the CDMA Touch Pro 2 are found. Whereas I prefer xda-developers for most of my apps.
PS I run the Titanium version of the Touch Pro 2 CDMA NRG ROM's so don't have first hand experience with the Sense versions.
I'm still running an ancient version (Late May) of the NRG ROM and it didn't have any of the sprint PRL and Profiler update apps. I found a cab that will install them in the MR. X ROM thread: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=1563450&postcount=4

[Q] Choosing the Correct ROM for Touch Pro2

Hi
I got a Sprint HTC Touch Pro2 which is unlocked and i use it in India using the GSM feature of the phone using SIM card. The phone came with a WM6.5 OS, i decided to flash the phone with custom ROM's, here are my few queries
1. In my case where i use the phone using SIM, should i use the GSM ROM or CDMA ROM?
2. Whenever i reboot the phone, it tries to contact the provider (Sprint) for Handsfree activation, How can i turn this OFF?
3. When the phone is rebooting, i get the Sprint splash screen, can i turn this OFF?
4. The first time Hardspl was intalled (paid in a store to get it installed), he installed a Hardspl that says "Test Only ROM not for sale" when rebooting, is that normal behaviour?
Phone Details -
RHOD400 32M SS-BC
SPL - 1.00.Olinex
MicroP(LED) 0x0A
MicroP(Key) 0x04
TurboHW/TurboSW
There is some TP MFC Date (let me know if i need to provide)
Software Info
OS Version - 5.2.23544(23544.5.5.0)
Manila Version - 2.5.2.121225.0
ROM Version - 3.04.605.3 WWE
ROM Date - 02/21/2010
Radio Version -1.96.00WF
Appreciate if can suggest the correct HardSPL for Manila or Energy ROM's.
Thanks
Raj

one. only use cdma roms. flashing a gsm rom would brick your phone.
two. settings --> personal --> phone --> network --> mode of operation --> gsm/umts only --> you can manually select network or allow it to automatically select.
three. easiest way... i suggest a program called bsb tweaks. found here.
four. i havent ever heard of paying for hardspl install. so unsure. though. i suppose as long as it works... no use fretting over it? else you can (re)cdma hardspl, here.
remember. only use cdma roms.
a list of a collection of cdma roms can be found here.
i also suggest task29 before you flash new roms. can be found here.

Which Andoid Version? GSM or CDMA
HTC TOUCH PRO 2/SPRINT
So before installing Android ROM onto my SD card, I flashed and unlocked my phone including the radio allowing it to use a SIM Card in the states.
I changed the Radio Settings To GSM.
1. Windows Mobile works fine with no issues. Phone works great.
2. When I load Android from the boot application it runs fine.
2.1 Issues: I can not get a Tmobile signal while in Android. I pick up Cingular and ATT and some other provider I've never heard of, but I can not connect to TMobile.
Wifi Works great.
I Installed the CDMA Android ROM, Will it brick if I install GSM Android ROM.
Any suggestions would be very helpful !
Thanks in advance.

Install a different HTC ROM on Verizon One M8

Hi,
My friend has a Verizon HTC One M8, and his phone is limited because he doesn't have a Verizon SIM (we don't live in the USA) -
meaning he can't use LTE (even though the phone's bands match the local bands), can't use mobile hotspot and he also couldn't update his phone until I found a way to update it using a PC. It's giving him lots of trouble.
I want to install CM13 on his phone, but before I flash CM I wanted to know if there's a way to install a different (international and original) HTC ROM on his phone. So he can fully use the phone without a Verizon SIM.
Is there a way to do it? Can anyone give me a link for this kind of ROM (that'll work on this phone and match my requirements)?
thx
