Hello,
I have a Plantronics 903+ from ATT. They are the around behind the head bluetooth headsets that you can run with. It works great listening to music with pandora, youtube, and listening to calls... The issue i am having is that i cannot do any voice commands. I had a wp7 phone and when i hit the action button, it would say "say a command" and then you would say "phone command" and it would say, "now connecting to your phones built-in voice commands"... That worked as of 3 days ago. When i got this phone, i push the action button and there is just silence. Any ideas what could be wrong? Anybody else have experience w/ a bluetooth headset and voice commands on this phone?
I know its a question but its about accessories so not sure where to put it.

I have the same problem with a Jawbone Icon headset. It appears the HOX doesn't have voice commands built in. I figured they would at least enable Google voice actions through it, but no dice. You might be able to get a 3rd party voice app from Google Play store.
I am also experiencing the same thing with my Plantronics 903 headset. Voice controls worked flawlessly with my iPhone 4 but this isn't the case with the HOX. I'd like to see this feature show up in a later update but, ultimately, I'm happy with a new handset and don't mind losing a little bit of functionality.

No problems here with my Rogers HOX and my Sound ID 510 headset.
I've got the same issue with my BlueAnt Z9i. Kind of a bummer...
Any suggestions on voice control applications?
Just dropped cash on a Jawbone ERA and would like to actually use it to make some calls rather than just receiving them.
i wonder if it's just something else ATT has crippled in the handset, since it seems to work on equlizer's rogers handset.
maybe try flashing the rogers RUU or the asian one and see if that helps?

cant ruu without supercid. cant supercid without unlocked bootloader. maybe pauls superpatch would work...
or maybe compare software, see what att left out. ATT doesnt have an issue with voice commands, i think they were the first to have it. Probably wasnt broken on purpose.

are you using vlingo or any 3rd party app? or did it work out of the box. Do you have an app installed for your bt headset? Like jawbone has a jawbone.apk that does voice commands etc.

Vlingo doesn't work either. the US version does not support Bluetooth dialing for some reason. Kind of weird.
I have a Motorola t505 and when I hit the call button nothing happens.
I wonder if we could get the google voice commands apk from another phone and try installing it. If there is such a thing.

I haven't tried it yet but check to see if Google Voice Search is installed on the phone. Get it from the market, if not. See if that helps the issue.
I had this issue in the past with another phone.
Search is installed but no go. The voice commands in search work when you push the Mic icon. You can say "call work" for example.
Nothing works from the Bluetooth device however. Funny thing is if you long press the call button on your bt device if will actually dial the last number dialed. That I don't get.
Looks like it's a limitation of the phone. So to make a call via bt it looks like you'll have to touch the screen no matter what app you use. Lame.

I have this same issue with my car's bluetooth. I would have it on and off on other phones, based on the rom.
Is there a bluetooth ninja out there that can help us out? Maybe talk to one of the mod guys like Ken or Paul?
I sent this up to HTC Support and all I got back was a comment on how to use voice actions, open search or a keyboard and push the mic button. Nothing on BT voice commands.
Hopefully one of the ROM chefs will add this back in....
Found this thread in general. My bluetooth is at home, but when i get home ill download the free posted app. If that doesnt work then i may try the paid app in the first post.

After some playing around Vlingo seems to work as a replacement. Let me explain.
If you're running Vlingo and have it set to a listen/wake up command, when you press the call button on your bt device, Vlingo will wake up and say what can I do for you etc.
You can then tell Vlingo to call whomever. I was able to get Vlingo to open the music app, then I hit the call button again, with the music app still open and Vlingo replied with it's what can I do for you.
It's not perfect and to leave Vlingo in a constant listening state(red light in app is on) will drain your battery somewhat. I guess you have to plug it in lol.
Hope that makes sense.

I believe this is an issue in ICS. When I upgraded a HTC Vivid to ICS, it lost bluetooth voice controls.
I tried both apps referenced in that thread I posted. Didn't like ether. Vlingo is what I used before. I like it but I cant seem to get it working by using my bt headset.

So sweet. Jawbone now has an update for the Jawbone ICON which allows it to pair as an A2DP device. This means I can route all sound to it: music, movies, navigation, FartDroid, Robo Defense, etc.
There has never hasn't been a fix for this since the 1.5 ROMs. I'm on Fresh 2.0d
This awesome earpiece can be had for around $75 if you look hard enough.

Can the ICON connect to the phone and allow voice dial ? Thats one feature I miss. All the crazy advances and this is one feature that hasnt been fixed. Oh well. By the way the Q1 does the ad2p thing and also allows 8 presets that allow the unit to at least connect and call out which is handy. It also allows you to connect hands free with just your voice. Not too big of a deal if your driving but if your a biker it's a pretty awesome feature ;-)
I wonder how hard would it be to program an app to wait for the button press on a headset and set it to use the voice recognition on the phone that is used by google search/nav etc...

Maybe it was a multi phone pairing issue, but I found that the Q1 didn't reconnect automatically if I walked away from the headset with the phone or vice versa. Also didn't like that the buttons were easy to press and hence a lot of pocket headset redials...
I am very stoked with the a2dp on the icon as that's the headset i had just before being convinced by someone else that the q1 was the way to go and since having gone back to the icon
Thanks for the info, I forget that the icon is updatable and haven't checked in a while...

seeing as this is a relatively active bluetooth-related thread, i was wondering if someone could answer a q for me.
im on fresh 2.0d and whenever I tried to play anything via A2DP in my car, the audio was sped up and always skipped about every second...has anyone else experienced this? if not, could you tell me which ROM you are using so I could give it a try?
appreciate any info anyone can offer...thanks

Here's a bit of info on the Jawbone ICON website: "To encourage Google to support voice dial via Bluetooth on the Android OS, vote at Google product ideas or post a reply on Motorola's DROID forum."
I have found that the Voice Search app works a little better than the Voice Dialer app on the Hero. I just place a shortcut on my home screen. If I open the app and say, "Call Dennis at Home," it will dial home right away. Not quite "hands free" dialing, but as close as I can get for now.
So after realizing that my brand new $650 phone did not have bluetooth voice dialing, I decided to do some work.... good news.
HTC did not include the VoiceDialer.apk with the Sensation. Why? No clue!
After getting it here...
http://download615.mediafire.com/m4f6kpd3g06g/mdh1m1x0dzh/VoiceDialer.apk
I was able to prompt my car stereo's Voice Dial button, but the Voice Dial still did not want to work correctly, but... just get ChoiceDialer+ from the market, and all is good.
How did you install the apk I would like to try this before I return the phone. Sorry if this is a stupid question.
Connect your phone to your computer via USB cable, and switch to Disk mode or Mass storage mode or whatever you call it.... drag it onto your phone. Use Astro or Root explorer to navigate to your phones folder, and just open the apk to install, and then restart.
Again, I dont think the voice dialer itself will give you prompts, so get a third party app like ChoiceDialer+
I can't get the voice dialer to repeat what I say for confirmation.
After I press my bluetooth, voice dialer opens up, I say my command, and then a pop-up comes up asking me to press ok or cancel.
Anybody got any luck with this?
I have been using vlingo since launch for bt dialing and works great. The app even has an in car mode and can read texts and emails. Of course you can turn that off as well.
I just use vlingo as my default app when long pressing the search button. So upon a long press, vlingo launches and listens via bluetooth and you can say your command from searching whatever to navigate to wherever to call whomever in your address book. Try it out, it's free. You can always uninstall if you do not like the functionality.
Is there an option for me to press the button on my bluetooth to trigger the app? It is illegal to use the phone while driving up here in Canada.
Make sure voicedialer.apk is installed, and then install a third party voice dialer like Vlingo or Choice Handsfree. You need that voicedialer.apk installed to trigger the prompt when you press the Bluetooth button on your headset... When you press it, it should bring up a prompt asking you which program you'd like to use.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
my voicedialer Force closed
after i installed choice dialer, i got the same menu still.
I press my bluetooth, say something, and then on my phone screen, it gives me a prompt as to what to do (in this case, who to call).
I don't want to touch my phone while driving.
The voicedialer app worked perfectly fine with my nexus one with the same bluetooth headset, no idea why it's not working on my sensation.
I think HTC needs to do something about this. I just bought the Sensation yesterday and didn't realize this issue till this morning. I am using the BlueAnt Q2. Call recognition works fine. But using the voice commands on the Q2 is a bust cause the device is no compatible. WTF.

I have the same situation, Q2, Sensation, hopefully a rooted ROM will fix this issue.
Sorted
I have a HTC Desire and have long been frustrated at its inability to voice dial via bluetooth. Last week I was annoyed by HTC's attitude to a Gingerbread update for the Desire, so I took the plunge and rooted my phone, installing Cyanogen mod 7.
Wonderful change, it's like having a new phone! One bonus is that, just today I decided to try voice dialling in my car, and it works perfectly! Paired the phone with my Alpine car radio, pressed the phone button on the radio and up came the message 'voice dialling', I said 'call John' and a female voice replied 'calling John' and there I was speaking, totally handsfree. Miraculous I thought, why couldn't HTC manage that?
So, all credit to Cyanogen for a superb update to my phone and I'll be donating, although it's free.
Same issues here. HTC seems to have rushed this one out the door. Besides the lack of BT voice dialing, I'm seeing hangs/crashes in the phone dialer app, and rapid battery drain when playing games. I wish there was a way to turn off Sense; it really adds nothing to the Android experience and usually gets in the way.
installs fine but keeps force closing and does not work with bt and no confirmation prompts. found vlingo but it does not work with sensation.in fact, the app will lock your phone and you will have to restore phone if you can even manage to get it installed in first place. so please stop telling people to use this app. you should be ashamed of yourself.

I've been reading through the threads and have been most interested in voice dialing. I had it on my HD2 and it was quite useful as I use a bluetooth headset as my primary means of talking on the phone. I just hate holding the phone up to my head. In any case, voice dialing IS possible without using BT. I'm sure most of you know this as all you have to do is hold the search button on the phone for a second to get a voice command prompt pop up where you can simply say "call <contact name>" or "dial <phone number>" and it will do as told. I have no modifications on my phone, it is as stock as stock can come.
With my headsets, it used to be where I held the activate button for a moment, a tone would play in my ear, and a voice would say "say a command". Keep in mind, that was on my HD2. The sensation doesn't come with BT voice dialing by default, it seems, and it does appear that there are work-arounds to it like the apk listed above. In fact, I've seen some relatively talented people figure out how to make things work, that weren't supposed to work in the first place. Also keep in mind that voice dialing and other functions are software based, and simply writing the proper code can overcome pretty much anything.
With that being said, thefattexan, I've seen you call other posters and responders liars, and in this thread alone, you've told someone that they're "full of crap". In all honesty, those comments are not appreciated, and at least one thread was closed by a moderator because of attacks like that.
Let me submit to you, that just because you've never seen or heard of something, does not mean that it doesn't exist. Simply because you could not make it work, does not mean that someone else wasn't able to. Calling someone a liar based only on your own experiences is pretty much out of line, and your behavior is somewhat disgraceful. So I am asking you nicely, to please refrain from that sort of behavior. Maybe if someone says they can do something that you are not able to, rather than call them a liar, ask them how they accomplished it and you may learn something in the bargain. Obviously, they tried something that you didn't, and voila. Otherwise, don't say anything, because carrying on like you do will only result in the moderators banning you.
for those that agree, click the thanks button and show the love.
I have had the same problems with the voice dialer apk. It installs just fine but it force closes when trying to use from the bluetooth headset.
I tried vlingo and some other apps but they are too complicated and usually require some interaction with the phone.
I want it to work just like my Thunderbolt. When my phone is in my pocket I can press the bluetooth call button and be prompted to speak now. The say "call John" and then prompted, "calling john" and the phone dials the number. Very simple and easy to work without any interaction.

I have seen your past posts and I can see you do not play well with others. Man, are you a native Texan? You are the most....well how can I put this...ignorant person here. This is XDA. A place where developers and users help each other troubleshoot things here.
And your great additions to this community? Just badmouthing everyone that does not share your view. Name calling really got you where you are today /sarcasm.
I do not know what your problem is and why you resort to name calling literally everytime you post.
Back to topic and to simply replying to you. I have been the early adopters of vlingo. I even paid for the app when it was first released. I have to say I did indeed install this via market when I got the phone because a week ago the in car setting kept fc'ing on me and I uninstalled and reinstalled the version I found in the market.
The funny thing is I tried looking again on the market and I do see that it is marked incompatible with the Sensation like you said, but I did uninstall the app and reinstalled fresh from the market and not use any restores.
I am done sparring with words with you and you can keep calling me and every one else here names....I don't know maybe you were bullied as a child, not given enough attention as a child, or maybe you found out that the Easter Bunny is a myth *gasp*....
I part with this: Get that stinking cross off your back, use the wood to build a bridge and get the hell over it.....

You are d'bomb!! Worked exactly as you stated. I now have a completely hands free dialing experience using only my bluetooth headset.
Just a tip for anyone watching... I had to restart my phone after installing the voicedialer.apk in order for it to respond correctly. THEN I installed the Hands Free Voice dialer.
Been unsuccessfully trying to get bluetooth voice dialing working with Jawbone Icon. Called HTC and representative said that bluetooth voice dialing was intentionally disabled on the One X.
Would voice dialing apk enable bluetooth voice dialing? Does it need to be installed as system app?
Also, the representative said an OTA update should be out for AT&T by the end of May.

The native Voice Dialer APK wasn't included. I've found a couple for ICS but none work on the One X. Vlingo works. For my BlueAnt Q2 it's a little funky. If you set up Vlingo InCar to listen over BT, you just say "hey Vlingo" to get it to respond and take your request. The first time I start it the Q2 says "feature not supported" but Vlingo's listening from that point anyway. Hopefully one of the devs on either One X forum will get a working APK out.
I use the leaked Voice Talk app from the Galaxy S III with my Jawbone ERA.
Supposedly they locked their servers but the app still works for what i need it for which is voice dialing. I get random FC's after command calls to other apps though.
The thing is Android has its own voice dial/voice search built right in the OS since 2.2.2. Why HTC disable this is beyond me. Even my AT&T Samsung GS2 has it after you removed the Voice app.
Actually, the voice search functionality is still there. You have to tap the mic icon on Google search widget to activate it. What's missing is click on BT headset button to launch it.

Still no way to do it without rooting. Is that correct? I have contacted HTC about this and was assured that it will be addressed in a upcoming update (not 1.85.502) so I guess we wait and see.
Possible Solution
This issues has been bugging me. It's one of the few features that my iPhone 4S did well... very well. So, I set out to find the fix.
Unfortunately, I cannot root my phone. So, I had to find another way.
I happen to have a Motorola Finiti headset. I installed MotoSpeak. Which whether it works for you or not, it enabled the menu to select the built in voice dialer when I hit the bluetooth call button.
Hopefully it works for others also.

If rooted.......
Go to settings>app>all. Clear the data and cache for the app. Using a root file explorer copy the .apk that you want, go to /system/app, and paste it. It will ask about replacing the existing, say yes. Reboot and enjoy

hi,
ok, so i've been a long time blackberry user and just switched to android.
i'm so happy with my galaxy nexus except this one thing.
with my blackberry, i never had to take my phone out of my pocket.
i could call someone or receive calls with just a button on my earphone (standard earphone that came with my blackberry).
all i had to do was just long press the button on the earphone and say "call mike" then it would call him.
but my galaxy nexus won't let me do this.
so i installed some apps like 'voice control full'... but to call someone, i still have to take my phone out, launch the app, press the 'say now' button on the screen before i can say something.
is there anything i can do about this???
all i want is the ability to call someone with just a button my standard earphone so i won't have to take my phone out of the pocket.
hands free calling
Try voice search but no guarrantees.
On my htc sensation headphones long pressing the mic button would redial last person i called but other then that idk.. but doesn't take that much effort to call someone manually..
Sent From My Sexy Sensation.
almost hands free
Also, try "Speaktoit Assistant" from the Play Store. Good luck!
i also tried speaktoit, but you still have to take the phone out, launch the app, press the 'say now' button on the screen.
sigh...
am i asking for too much? i just want to do what my crappy blackberry was able to do every day..
Hands free
I have a sensation too, but I used to have a Blackberry storm. There's many abilities that the Blackberry had and I would miss them too, as when I was able to play stations from tunein radio, on 2G network.
Interesting. My Blue Ant headset lets you use its commands to call anyone in your phonebook or you can hit the button and then say 'phone commands' and it will use whatever commands are built into your phone.
Your headset apparently isn't compatible with this because Google Voice Commands that comes stock on Android phones allows both calling and texting directly from its menus and should come up by default when you use the headset to access the phone.
Bluetooth. Simple.
Does this only work with Bluetooth?
Or can it be achieved without it?

LOL still upset...the voice dialer while paired by bluetooth using it my car with my Kenwood Navigation head unit DNX890HD. It just does not work well at all. It misses names, can`t find names that are in my contacts, adds digits on number dial....etc Contacts that S voice (on my Samsung Galaxy S4) would call with no issues what so ever do not work at all. It is poor at best. The issue is with the voice dialer over Bluetooth in the car...Ok Google now works just fine.
So anything I can do to get better results or another app to give me better results.

Hope that helps and adds more meat to the subject.

It might be a kenwood related issue, It is working perfectly with the factory deck in my car.

This sounds obvious but I thought i'd throw it out there anyways... have you gone into the settings and checked off the box that tells it to work through the bluetooth headset? It may just be using the mic on the phone which is why it's messing up so bad.

Yup it is activated...still the $hits...trying a app called klets, will see if that is any better. Do not mind paying for one if it works!!

Wish I could help, but in my experience, Google's voice recognition is one of if not the best voice recognition software out there. I've used "OK Google" few times and few more times as a test and compared to others, it's excellent.
could be a possibility your BT mic just isn't picking it up..or isnt close enough.
How does it perform without bluetooth?
In Google now settings, go to voice and check Bluetooth headset. Google Now will now be used instead of the dated "voice dailer."

I agree on its own in Google now it is really good...but hooked up to my Nav unit and it is the voice dialer which I think is different to Google now in some aspects...is the $hits. Klets works I have bought it and it does what Svoice dos on SGS4...I am happier now, just wished the built in one worked!!

I will try that, thought I did but was rushed. So when hooked to bluetooth then the screen will always have to stay on or activate when I press on the phone button on the nav unit? Will give it a try.
Klets works fine, but would love to get google now...

Same here...using Dodge/Chrysler's UConnect and I haven't had a single problem save for the same problem with some of my contacts not being able to be dialed using "Name, Home". It consistently boots me to that person's mobile number. That might be a google related issue or something else. Using numbers only hasn't given me any problems.
So here is my dilemma, Google now works when the phone is unlocked and through the blue tooth on the nav unit with ok google...when I press the telephone button on the nav unit it then defaults to either google voice dialer (the old crappy one) or klets with the always or just once options.
So it works sort of.....

I couldn't get the phone voice dialer or my old standby voice dialer called cyberon to work reliably on the N5 and my sony mw600 bluetooth headset. Cyberon worked fairly reliably on my old galaxy nexus but not on the N5.
I really thought that there was a bug in the N5 kitkat which would hose any bluetooth voice dialer. At your suggestion I just loaded klets and wow, it seems to work wonderfully!
I need some time with it but I am very encouraged. Caanda45 I can't thank you enough for your remarks

NP glad it worked...I have ended up getting rid of my N5 but klets is a pretty good app. Any app that will let you try it free for 7 days is a good app in my books...

When I tried ok google for dialing I seem to recall there was no verification. I don't think I could rate a voice dialer as excellent without verification. I really don't want an old girlfriend asking me why I was calling her.

agreed. which phone did you settle on? Was it the voice dialing that caused you to switch?

I didn't say voice dialer was excellent.. I said the voice recognition was excellent.
As for verification, there is no "yes" "no" verification but there is a few second delay before it places a call, during which you can cancel if that's not the number you wanna dial.

ok, I'll acknowledge your statement about the voice recognition. I just tried playing with the voice calling feature again to refresh my memory.
Many times ok google wasn't picked up. There is no voice verification yes/no as you stated and no repeat of who it was about to call. Yes there is a delay where you could kill it with touch but I saw no way to kill it with a voice command once it commenced. Having to kill it with touch completely misses the point of voice dialing.
While the name it picks seems to be accurate that's about the only useful thing I can say about it. Even then often it would pull the correct name but drop the "call" part of the command and instead do a default web search on the name.
IMO, the google now voice dialer is cute but practically useless as a serious voice dialing application.

Believe it or not I got a Moto x and the notifications and touch less controls are outstanding!!! Solid phone, better speaker, no washed out picture off axis etc....The N5 is a powerhouse but as with most LG products, cheapo plastic....My S4 was better constructed.....just my opinion though...

It uses the Google system not the old google crappy voice dialer but the new one that is in the nexus 5...so basically google now..works really well even when I press the phone button on the nav system it defaults to google now through the nav mic. My N5 would use the crappy old google voice dialer until I used klets. All in all happy that I got rid of the N5.
