The 4g AT&T networks are usually rebranded 3g. So yes, 3g should work fine.
Hey thanks I've got a friend thats installing the circuits for 4g ....but didn't know if you could connect 3g through the 4g

Yes, 3G will be around for awhile, just as EDGE is still around.

Not true. SIM profiles will change and when you upgrade to a new data network the older SIM may not have the full profile and can't get it via SIM OTA.

you guys do realize that ATT is marketing their 4G, when its actually only HSPA+?
also, you seem to think that the SIM card is going to need to be changed for '4G' speeds? why? the only thing that needs to change for '4G' is the hardware has to support it.
SIMS cards do need to be changed from time to time because of types of services or network upgrades.
Older SIM cards may still work but that doesnt mean you will always get full network/sevice potential.
There is good reading outside of XDA about this if you search a little, and ignore the junk search results

What's this then:
http://www.bgr.com/2010/10/21/att-starts-switching-to-lte-compatible-sim-cards/
Cingular changed their UICC profile (SIM) in 2005 when they introduced ISIM and USIM profiles to support 3G. Now to support LTE, they've introduced... wait for it... a new SIM! OMG!!!!
BTW, LTE unlike HSPA+ uses a totally different core called EPC and thus has a different APN and several other new profile settings.
BTW, BTW, APN is typically a device driven setting and NOT a UICC setting. There's a difference.

HAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!
you think these devices are capable of LTE?!
seriously guys, ATT's 4G network is nothing more than 3.5G.....its not a real 4G network. All of the info I have found coming from ATT techs has been that there is no real difference between 4G and 3G SIM cards....

I know what HSPA+ is...
Anyway, AT&T shipped me a new SIM when I received my Atrix 4G. Not really sure if it's necessary but AT&T did that.
BTW, as far as I know a GPRS/EDGE SIM cannot do WCDMA on a WCDMA network.

i have a new SIM with each of my Atrixes, and when I called in to get my account provisioned for my Atrix, i told them i had an old Cingular sim card. they said 'if you arent having any problems, then there isnt any need to change it'
so here i sit with 2 ACTIVE 4G sim cards and 2 ACTIVE '3G' sim cards and not a damn one of them is any different on any phone for any speeds....
my phone line up on ATT currently consists of:
2 captivates
2 atrixes

Since you have practiced, you should be correct. I didn't get a chance to test my original SIM in Atrix.
However I still recall my China Mobile SIM didn't get 3G while roaming in US... Maybe just my problem.
by any chance there is a modem that combines att and tmobile frequencies? therefore i can change to att or tmobile sim card without worry about flashing it.
nope, sorry
that sucks when you have a quadband and only triband is functional..
just keep the modems on sd card, I use the stock at$t until I know I'll be in an area with tmobile 4g and switch then. Leave that area and switch back. Get better battery life with stock at$t.

If you're talking about AT&T 3g then any T-Mobile/Telus radio will enable both AT&T 3g and T-Mobile hspa. If you're talking about LTE... our only hope is that Bell didn't typo the AWS band on their galaxy note specs, and if that's true we'd still have to get through the hurdle of finding a way to flash Note radios on the skyrocket properly.
^^ this is correct, but I assumed he wanted 4g, that is the reason for our amazing phones after all (and LTE of course) :-D
i wanted a modem that can go on att and tmobile lte without having to switch/reflashing modems.
There is no T-Mobile LTE, from my understanding they aren't getting it til 2013. As for 4g, I think the Rogers radio (kj7) will give u AT&T LTE and T-Mobile connnection as well once u change to apn. I don't however u y ur not willing to flash a radio which takes 30 when changing similar cards will take longer anyway, its not like the skyrocket is dual sim
i am looking for roger kj7 modem atm..
what do you mean change to apn? i am looking at the apn and it shows epc.tmobile.com
am i suppose to change that to something else?
okay, after flashing several times, it is still showing i am on UCLA3 version... can anyone kindly provide instructions on flashing the radio? obviously i am doing something wrong here.
okay,,, i tried this procedure several times and could not get it to change/

I just bought a Fido Razr HD for connecting to Rogers network. To my surprise, I was able to connect to Rogers even though it is a Fido phone. Never the less, I paid and got the phone sim unlocked. But I noticed that my Razr never connect to LTE. It always shows it connected as H+, which I assume to be the HSPA+ network. I verfied the following:
-Rogers LTE APN for mobile - checked this against entries posted here on XDA for Rogers
-Network select set to GSM/HSPA/LTE (Auto)
I do get a strange error every time i change from another sim back to my Rogers's one, it says something like no suitable network -15, something like that. I assume my problem has to do with it being a Fido rom working on Rogers.
Am I missing something really obvious?
Thanks,

Have you tried configuring phone according to SIM?.. Configuring it according to sim will load Rogers ROM on it and it will install all Rogers crapware along on it. But i think if you don't see the LTE , it is worth trying. Also make sure your area have LTE coverage.

Yes I have already converted to crap Rogers bloatware rom. It does that automatically when you put in a Rogers sim. Now I got bloatware and still no LTE. My Rogers work iPhone is happily LTE'ing at like 20 mbps, this one is only doing 5 mbps, booo.

hmmm.. okay.. do one thing.. Go to setting and then mobile networks and Select network.. make sure GSM/HSPA/LTE (Auto Mode) is selected. Secondly, Remove the sim and restart the phone and then re-insert the sim and see if it works. If still it don't. Simplay factory reset it and check.
Just here to share my experience because I had a similar problem too.
I'm with fido carrier and got the razr hd with fido (in futureshop) which sucks.
Anyways long story short, same thing happened to me it kept on staying on H+ which I did speed test is only around 2-5 average...mostly 2max.
So I went in LOTS troubles finding out what's wrong and GUESS WHAT when I get the phone and the micro sim card with the sales HE SAID it IS LTE supported (because there are two different micro sim cards....one supports LTE and one doesn't)
Then I went through all troubles and finally had to talk to on of the representatives ONLINE and tell them to send me a LTE micro sim card.
For my fido sim card it does say LTE on it but don't trust the people you call you gotta force them to send you an LTE micro sim card because I called LOTS times to fido and some say on there should be LTE labelled on the micro sim and some say don't know and some say it shouldn't which pisses me off a lot until I did the ONLINE chat and they finally send me the LTE micro sim card and it works....
But one thing is don't expect to have LTE everywhere in Vancouver because as for now, I know I get LTE more in burnaby like near metro (but not in metro hahah...sometimes not always) and not a lot places in Richmond as for downtown not too sure because I went there 2-3 times only got H+ but I don't go there often.
At least i know LTE works which is the main point so I guess after all you have done, make make make sure your micro sim is LTE compatible.
P.S. for fido the LTE is included when I sign the contract so no charge to me for them to send me one but I'm not sure about rogers.
Hope this helps more or less.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the responses. Just prior to reading this thread, i came to the same conclusion that this is sim related as I put my micro sim into my girlfriend's LTE phone, it can only go up to HSPAP. I realized that it must be sim based. I was cheap and just cut down my old sim, i assume my old one did not support LTE on Rogers. And with this response I am 80% sure this is the problem. I will go pay 10 buck and enjoy blazing LTE tomorrow!!!
Thanks all!!

Oh they just letting you know....which I didn't say because it was a super long story that's why I briefly said it....somehow DO check if your rogers micro sim card says LTE or not on it because what I left out and didn't easy earlier was that I went to buy a micro sim card at the store and I asked for micro sim card...and at last they still only give me a regular micro sim card that's why I kept on confused if it does say LTE on it and went online chat to complain what happened. So double triple make sure or if you know someone in rogers store then it'll be good too. Because after I got the fake LTE they kept on saying on maybe because the tower delay wait for a day or two some said and some said few hours but guess what! when fido mailed me the LTE card the LTE works RIGHT AWAY....so ya...find a way to make sure the card is LTE micro.
So I snagged a straight talk galaxy S3. I've already got it rooted running official cm12 for the Verizon varient. Is it at all possible to get this thing to pick a verizon/page plus sim? From looking around I've come to the conclusion that the Verizon S3 is the most similar. What would be the options?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've searched and searched and I can't find any explanation as to why or where the 4G is deactivated. by the process of elimination, I've come come to the conclusion that it has to be in the physical hardware. I'm wondering if the process they used is the same process page plus retailers used on 4G devices..because my girlfriend had a Verizon s3 that they had to flash to 3G so it can be used on pageplus..when she switched to a note 2 a few weeks ago they told her they offered Verizon's 4G coverage now and she would get it on her note no flashing required. Worked right outta the box. We took her old s3 and hooked it up for my mom. They said that it had to be flashed back to 4G so I'm wondering if straight talk flashed this phone to 3G only with flashing software..if so, is there a free program anywhere to do this? The CDMA workshop trial has never given me the outcome I was looking for.

If you are saying that you were on Verizon because you had the Verizon wireless showing in your status bar or because it said it in your phone somewhere then no you weren't on Verizon, your phone showed that stuff because it has that stuff in your build.prop, that doesn't mean you were on Verizon, the only way to actually be on Verizon is if you actually setup an account with them and activated the phone on their network. Supposedly Verizon won't let you activate a straight talk phone on Verizon account, this device is not able to carrier unlock and that's what you have to do to actually switch carriers and use your IMEI on another network. It shows SCH-I535 because of the build.prop, all of that Verizon stuff and the i535 stuff can be edited in the build.prop, that has nothing to do with who you actually have service with, that's just there because its written in the ROM.
Is anyone using the T-Mobile Note 5 on AT&T? I am having data problems where I do not get data, but can send and receive texts, and also make calls. I switch to the Cingular APN and it works, but then goes out.
I have tried the Nxtgen phone apn and also phone apn, and no luck.
I know im not answering your question, but are you able to use the VOLTE feature on your tmobile phone on the at&t network? or even HD calling?
Actually At&t messed up my provisioning. You asked about those features, I would recommend you download Darthstalkers Rom Version 4, choose n9200A, it will install the at&t carrier files.
Just make sure to add the ATT Phone APN, do not use the nextgen phone apn.
Why do you suggest not using NextGen APN. I use it on all my phones and it's perfect your funny
I have been thinking of paying off my unrooted phone and switching to cricket. When I put my IME number to check compatibility it said it wasn't. So, I'm a bit confused. Is this phone compatible with ATT LTE or not. I thought that ATT and Cricket were the same?
